Lead Republican Negotiator on Border Deal Censured by Home State GOP

The Oklahoma senator leading negotiations on behalf of Republicans for a southern border security deal with Democrats has been condemned and censured by his home state GOP for his bipartisan work.

The Oklahoma Republican Party passed a resolution Saturday evening calling on Sen. James Lankford to “cease and desist jeopardizing the security and liberty of the people of Oklahoma and of these United States,” based on leaked portions of the talks.

“Until Senator Lankford ceases from these actions, the Oklahoma Republican Party will cease all support for him,” the resolution states. “Senator Lankford playing fast and loose with Democrats on our border policy not only disenfranchises legal immigrants seeking citizenship but it also puts the safety and security of Americans in great danger.” . . .

The emerging deal, which would be attached to a $110 billion national security package with aid for Israel and Ukraine, is on life support.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, has cast doubt on its political viability because of former President Donald Trump’s opposition, and House Speaker Mike Johnson has said it’s “dead on arrival” in his chamber. Opponents say passing it would give President Biden a political victory in an election year on a major issue for voters that he caused. At Least 1.1K Border Crossers, Illegal Aliens Released Into U.S. Over Weekend

At least 1,100 border crossers and illegal aliens were released into the interior of the United States this weekend, local reports confirm, as the country’s catch and release program surges.

Reports out of San Antonio and Laredo, Texas, revealed that Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials under the direction of DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen have released at least 1,100 border crossers and illegal aliens into the country this weekend in these Texas regions, alone. . .

In Laredo, sources told local media that more than 100 border crossers and illegal aliens were dropped off at bus stations in the area over the weekend. The sources claim that about 90 percent of the foreign nationals released are Hondurans.

For months, DHS officials have said privately that the catch and release program has been taken to new heights, while Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) union officials declared this week that the program was in “overdrive” under Nielsen’s direction of the agency. . .

In an expansive report, Breitbart News recently confirmed that between December 21, 2018, and March 5, 2019, DHS released a total of 84,500 border crossers and illegal aliens into the U.S. This release process often entails federal immigration officials busing border crossers into nearby border cities and dropping them off with the promise that they will show up for their immigration and asylum hearings, sometimes years later. Border Town Declares One of Trump’s Border Security Measures as ‘Inhuman’

By Townhall. The small border town of Nogales, Arizona has issues with President Donald Trump’s move to secure the border by installing contra wire along the wall. City officials have deemed the installation “irresponsible” and “inhuman,” The Independent reported. On Wednesday, Nogales City Council passed a resolution that would sue the federal government if the barbed wire was not removed. . .

“I can’t really imagine why this is necessary, especially in a downtown area where we’re trying to build a business-friendly community, so close to an area where we’ve had economic problems in the past. This right here is not safe, for anybody walking through here. This wire is at ground level. It’s not only at the top, but it’s ground level,” Nogales Mayor Arturo Garino told CNN.

The most interesting aspect: Garino believes the contra wire is a threat to people (which is kind of the point of having it put up).

“Now concertina wire is being placed on that wall from the very top all the way to ground level, which is not safe for the residents of Nogales, Arizona, and it’s not safe for anyone getting close to it,” Garino said.

“That wire is lethal, and I really don’t know what they’re thinking by putting it all the way down to the ground,” Garino said. (Read more from “Border Town Declares One of Trump’s Border Security Measures as ‘Inhuman'” HERE)

A Small Arizona Town Wants Feds to Remove Razor Wire From the Border Wall That Runs Through It

By CNN. An Arizona town is condemning the federal government’s use of razor wire on the border wall running through its downtown area as an “indiscriminate use of lethal force.”

The Nogales City Council passed the measure unanimously Wednesday night, and included a threat that it will sue the federal government if it doesn’t remove the wire, CNN affiliate KOLD reported. Nogales is a town of about 20,000 about an hour’s drive from Tucson.

The city’s resolution comes as the Pentagon announced this week it is sending 3,750 additional US forces to the southwest border to support Customs and Border Protection. As part of that deployment, troops are placing 150 miles of concertina wire between ports of entry.

In a video recorded in front of the wire before the meeting, Nogales Mayor Arturo Garino said, “I can’t really imagine why this is necessary, especially in a downtown area where we’re trying to build a business-friendly community, so close to an area where we’ve had economic problems in the past. This right here is not safe, for anybody walking through here. This wire is at ground level. Trump Threatens to Shut Down the Southern Border Without Wall Funds, and He Has the Power to Do It

If the partial government shutdown continues without a congressional deal to fund the wall, President Trump says, he’ll be forced to shut down the border entirely. And he could do it, with or without Congress’ cooperation.

“We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with,” the president tweeted Friday, one week after the start of the partial shutdown.

And while this claim might send the cadre of Trump’s usual critics into a violent fainting spell, closing the border is completely within his power.

As Conservative Review’s Daniel Horowitz explained back in October, President Trump not only has the inherent executive authority to close the border, as well as other immigration powers delegated by past Congresses, but he also has the popular mandate that got him elected.

Federal law “allows the president, whenever he finds that ‘the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States,’ to ‘suspend’ all forms of immigration ‘for such period as he shall deem necessary,’” Horowitz explains. It also “grants the president an almost equal level of authority to subject entry of all aliens entering or departing to ‘such reasonable rules, regulations, and orders, and subject to such limitations and exceptions as the President may prescribe.’”

“If demanding that all immigrants enter legally or apply for asylum in a safe and controlled environment at a consulate rather than at a border controlled by some of the most dangerous people in the world is not a ‘reasonable rule,’” Horowitz concludes, “I’m not sure what is.”

President Trump has long made the case that physical border security is critical to America’s interests, both for our national security and the preservation of our national sovereignty. Closing the border down until the American people get the security they voted for would be a logical next step. UPDATE: This Air Force Veteran Started a GoFundMe Campaign for Trump’s Wall…and Raised How Much Again?

Editor’s note: see the updated story below about how the GoFundMe wall funding has now surpassed $15 million!

By Townhall. Well, there could be a government shutdown this week, or not. Either way, whatever is cooked up on the Hill; there will be probably be no wall funding. The Senate has put forward a stopgap measure will fund the government until February, but we don’t know what the president is going to do. Still, there have to be mounting frustration over the lack of progress with regards to the wall, a key and must-do action item for the administration. It formed the cornerstone of his 2016 campaign. So, with no wall, one Air Force veteran decided to take matters in his own hands, starting a GoFundMe campaign that amassed over $500,000 in two days. Purple Heart Air Force Veteran, 37, Who Lost Both His Legs and an Arm, Creates GoFundMe Campaign to Build Trump’s Border Wall, Raising Nearly $1MILLION

By Daily Mail. A Florida Air Force veteran has raised nearly $1million to build President Donald Trump’s promised border wall.

Triple amputee Brian Kolfage, 37, created the GoFundMe account on Sunday titled We The People Will Fund The Wall, and in three days has already raised over $900,000 of its $1billion goal.

‘It’s up to Americans to help out and pitch in to get this project rolling,’ the page reads. ‘If the 63 million people who voted for Trump each pledge $80, we can build the wall.’

Trump is demanding $5billion to build the southern border wall with Mexico, and is threatening to shut down the government if he can’t get the funding.

The fundraising page says it has contacted the Trump Administration to secure a point of contact where all the funds will go, but adds it has ‘many very high level contacts already helping’. Air Force Veteran’s GoFundMe Campaign Now Exceeds $15,000,000. Transgender’s GoFundMe Raises $127k

Two competing GoFundMe pages – one raising money to fund President Trump’s border wall and another raising money for ladders for migrants to use to surmount that wall – are both continuing to rack up quite a bit of cash.

The original crowdfunding campaign, entitled We The People Will Fund The Wall, surpassed $15million on Saturday, on its way to lofty $1billion goal.

More than 250,000 people have donated to the page since it was created on Sunday by Brian Kolfage, a triple amputee Air Force veteran.

The campaign description says in part: ‘It’s time we uphold our laws, and get this wall BUILT! It’s up to Americans to help out and pitch in to get this project rolling.’

On Wednesday Charlotte Clymer, a transgender woman and human rights activist from Texas, launched her own fundraising page in response, titled Ladders to Get Over Trump’s Wall. (Read more about the Air Force Veteran’s GoFundMe HERE)

First Caravan-Related Violence Reported in U.S.

By Washington Times. The Border Patrol reported the first major instance of migrant caravan-related violence Saturday, saying a Honduran man threw rocks at agents to try to keep from being arrested Friday in Arizona.

The 31-year-old, whom authorities didn’t name, had climbed a tree to try to avoid capture, then lit the tree afire and began to throw rocks at the agents as well as a helicopter called in to help track him.

Neither the agents nor the helicopter were hit by the projectiles.

The man was eventually arrested, and agents said he told them he was part of the migrant caravan that had been in the news. They said he had previous arrests in the U.S. and had been deported back in June.

A local fire department had to be called to extinguish the fire. (Read more from “First Caravan-Related Violence Reported in U.S.” HERE)

‘It’s Going to Be a Mess’: Former ICE Supervisor Says ‘There Has to Be Something Done’ About Caravan

By Fox News. Former ICE supervisor Jason Piccolo said Sunday that “there has to be something done” as the migrant caravan heads toward the U.S. border.

The caravan was expected to march through the San Ysidro, California, point of entry Sunday afternoon.

“I think it’s going to be a mess,” Piccolo said Sunday on Fox & Friends. “That’s one of the busiest land ports we have in the world, and it’s also going to disrupt commercial and legitimate pedestrian traffic as well.”

Piccolo suggested a “port court,” where immigration judges and asylum officers would be present at points of entry.

He also said that possible cooperation between the Trump administration and the incoming Mexican government is “absolutely significant.” (Read more from “‘It’s Going to Be a Mess’: Former Ice Supervisor Says ‘There Has to Be Something Done’ About Caravan” HERE)

Armed Citizens Join the Front Lines to Help Prevent Caravan Riders From Entering the U.S.

By Townhall. The United States Border Patrol alerted Texas landowners about the possibility of armed citizens being on their property. These men and women have decided to join the Border Patrol and the National Guard on the front lines of the United States-Mexico border to prevent illegal aliens from entering the U.S.

Armed citizens decided to provide support to federal law enforcement officials after they received word that the Central American caravan carrying illegal aliens would be arriving at the United States-Mexico border in the coming days.

According to the Associated Press, activists are coordinating with other citizens about taking a place along the border. One even told them it was “imperative that we have boots on the ground,” Fox News reported.

It is coming practice for Militia and members of the Minutemen to keep watch on the border. When they see someone illegally crossing, they call Border Patrol to come and apprehend the person or persons.

Those who can’t make it to the border have donated money for supplies and equipment. Those who do plan to patrol the border usually bring firearms and tactical gear, Fox News reported. (Read more from “Armed Citizens Join the Front Lines to Help Prevent Caravan Riders From Entering the U.S.” HERE)

First Woman U.S. Border Patrol Chief Appointed

Carla Provost was officially appointed as US Border Patrol chief on Thursday, after successfully serving for more than a year as the agency’s interim acting chief. Provost’s appointment makes her the first woman in charge of the Border Patrol during its 90-year history.

President Donald J. Trump originally appointed Provost in April 2017 to serve as the acting chair. Yesterday, Kevin McAleenan, the commissioner for Customs and Border Protection, appointed her to the full-time position. McAleenan stated, “Her career has been marked by her tendency to take on on the most challenging roles in the most challenging areas of our border and our agency.” This appointment is not subject to Senate confirmation.

According to US News, Provost “will be responsible for securing more than 6,000 miles of land borders with Mexico and Canada, and overseeing more than 19,000 agents — the vast majority of which are male.”

“The Border Patrol has been at about 5 percent of women my entire career,” Provost said while in DC. “But I can tell you we are seeing more and more women rise through the ranks and into senior positions. And I believe that this will help with the recruitment.” (Read more from “First Woman U.S. Border Patrol Chief Appointed” HERE)

Man Steals Border Patrol ATV After Knocking Agent off It With Rock. So Agents Pull out Their Guns.

By The Blaze. A man reportedly brought a rock to gun fight with Border Patrol agents — and wasn’t terribly successful in the end.

San Diego police said the man — believed to be 19 years old — was stopped by agents in an area known as Spooner’s Mesa near the U.S.-Mexico border around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, KSWB-TV reported.

Police said a fight broke out and an agent was knocked off his ATV with a rock, the station reported, adding that the suspect jumped on the agent’s ATV and took off.

A pursuit ensued but soon ended when the suspect lost control of the ATV, crashed into a fence, and was taken into custody, KSWB reported.

During the incident, at least two agents fired their weapons at the suspect and hit him at least once, the station said. The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound that wasn’t believed to be life-threatening, police told KSWB. Border Patrol Shoots Teen Suspected of Throwing Rock, Stealing Agent’s ATV

By Fox 5. A man is accused of hitting a Border Patrol agent with a rock and stealing his ATV before he was shot by agents and arrested near the Tijuana River estuary early Sunday.

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot injury, which was not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

The incident began around 2:30 a.m. in an area known as Spooner’s Mesa, between the US-Mexico border and Monument Road, San Diego police Homicide Captain Thomas Underwood said. “In the course of that contact a fight ensued, and an agent was knocked off his ATV with a rock. The suspect then jumped onto the agent’s ATV and a pursuit ensued where the suspect eventually lost control, crashed and was taken into custody. During the incident at least two border patrol agents fired their weapons at the suspect.” (Read more from “Border Patrol Shoots Teen Suspected of Throwing Rock, Stealing Agent’s ATV” HERE)

Retired Border Agent: Here’s How to Scare off Illegals

Tea Party Patriots Action Co-founder Jenny Beth Martin traveled to the U.S.-Mexico border to chat one-on-one with some border patrol agents who are fed up with the federal government and are taking matters into their own hands.

Martin shared footage of her walk and talk along the border with Zach Taylor, a retired border patrol officer and current chairman of Chairman of National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers.

Martin and Taylor walked along the Bryan Terry Border Patrol Station in Bisbee, Arizona, named after the border patrol agent who lost his life in a gun fight with a drug cartel. Martin said a similar attack occurred the very morning of their interview on June 12. A border agent was shot multiple times but was saved thanks to his bulletproof vest. . .

“The whole reason that this push to come to the United States is becoming so violent is because we are turning into a lawless society,” Taylor explained. “There is no downside to violating the law. You can come here illegally, you can act like you’ve been here for 10 years. You can say you’re a DACA person and that’s all you got to do and you get signed up.”

He offered a detailed solution – one he said would strike fear in anyone thinking of entering our country illegally. Let the agents conduct a biography interview of any undocumented person at the border, see if they qualify, and take them directly to an immigration judge, he proposed. Taylor predicted that 80 percent or more would not make the cut. At that point, we should fly them back to home country on military aircraft. That way, their comrades “can see 300 people getting off an aircraft that says, ‘U.S. Air Force.'” (Read more from “Retired Border Agent: Here’s How to Scare off Illegals” HERE)
