California Begs Trump for Help After Illegal Aliens Spill Into U.S. COVID Units

It’s hard not shake your head at California officials asking the Trump administration for help after illegal aliens with coronavirus began spilling into hospitals on the US side.

Avoiding disease as well as the social and literal costs of supporting millions of noncitizens are among the chief reasons why President Trump won the election and promised to build a wall.

Fox News reports that the San Diego County city of Chula Vista is seeing a “sudden influx of critically ill patients from Mexico.”

Kristin Gaspar, San Diego County’s Third District supervisor, sent a letter to Vice President Mike Pence in April saying that medical professionals were “increasingly worried about the rapid spread of COVID-19 in northern Mexico” and that there had been “a sudden influx of critically ill patients from Mexico” in Chula Vista, Calif. Gaspar asked for senior Trump administration officials to speak with local hospital executives and medical professionals to address the issue

Additionally, Scripps Health President and CEO Chris Van Gorder and Sharp HealthCare COVID‐19 Strategic Response Executive Consultant Daniel Gross wrote a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf asking for help in dealing with coronavirus cases at the border.

Judges Block Trump Rule That Immigrants Must Have Health Insurance

A three-judge panel in California has blocked President Donald Trump’s October 2019 immigration reform that requires that would-be legal immigrants be able to pay for their own healthcare costs.

The nationwide legal block — a “stay” — will allow the continued entry of legal immigrants who cannot cover the cost of treatment during the coronavirus epidemic. One million legal immigrants are admitted each year, regardless of the economic impact on taxpayers, home buyers, and unemployed Americans.

But the block may be lifted if the administration can get a reversal from other judges in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals or the U.S. Supreme Court.

Even if the stay is not removed, the judges have yet to decide if Trump’s October policy is valid. So far, Trump’s lawyers have won numerous legal battles against lawsuits funded by pro-migration Democrats and business groups. But if Trump loses the 2020 election, a Democrat president would dismantle the reform, even if the Supreme Court approves it. California: Suspect Arrested 3 Times in 12 Hours Thanks to Zero-Bail Policy

A suspect was arrested three times over the course of 12 hours by Orange County, California, law enforcement officials thanks to the state’s newly enacted zero-bail policy for accused criminals charged with a variety of crimes.

Dijon Landrum, 24-years-old, was first arrested by the Glendora Police Department on the morning of April 29 after he was allegedly caught breaking into a vehicle and attempting to steal it. When police arrived at the scene, they said Landrum tried to drive off in the stolen car, along with stolen property and narcotics.

Landrum was arrested but quickly released thanks to California’s newest zero-bail policy for most suspects accused of misdemeanors and felonies considered “low-level.” The policy was passed by the state’s Judicial Council in early April as part of a larger effort to empty prisons during the Chinese coronavirus crisis.

About an hour after Landrum’s release, the Glendora Police Department was called after eyewitnesses said a man was walking through their neighborhood with a box and stealing items off residents’ front lawns. . .

After his second arrest in a matter of hours, Landrum was released again thanks to the zero-bail policy. (Read more from “California: Suspect Arrested 3 Times in 12 Hours Thanks to Zero-Bail Policy” HERE)

WATCH: Protesters Storm California Beach Town Over Stay-At-Home Orders

A large crowd of people showed up at a protest in Huntington Beach, California, on Friday to complain against Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom and to demand the state’s stay-at-home rules be lifted.

The crowd of more than 500 gathered at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Main Street in downtown Huntington Beach, with people carrying signs saying “All jobs are essential,” “Freedom: We the people,” and “Recall Gavin Newsom,’” according to the Los Angeles Times.

Few people in the crowd were wearing face coverings, and almost no one followed the social distancing guidelines implemented by the government. Police officers on horseback oversaw the protest while other officers did their best to keep traffic moving along the coastal highway. . .

Newsom ordered beaches to close following large crowds congregating along the coast the previous weekend, most notably in neighboring Newport Beach, California.

“We can’t see images like we saw, particularly on Saturday, in Newport Beach and elsewhere,” Newsom said, adding that so many people on the beach was “disturbing.”

WATCH: California Police Go After Elderly Couple for Simply Sitting in Chairs; North Carolina Police Arrest Man for Attempting to Reopen His Business, Others May Follow Suit

By Western Journalism. Every now and then, a viral video comes along that isn’t so much about what is happening during the moment captured as it is about what is going on in the world at large.

Such is the case with recent footage of an incident in which a police officer reportedly told a 93-year-old couple they were not allowed to sit on folding chairs on a beach in Oxnard, California.

The clip says more about the government’s overreach during the coronavirus pandemic than it does about what happened to the couple. . .

According to report, the problem arose because setting up a folding chair in the sand created a “a permanent place as opposed to the temporary nature of sitting on the sand itself.”

North Carolina Police Arrest Man for Attempting to Reopen His Business, Others May Follow Suit

By Red State. As RedState managing editor Streiff wrote earlier today, the “Reopen” rebellion against North Carolina’s stay at home order is in full effect.

The arrests of protesters are continuing as well, with four arrested during Tuesday’s ReopenNC protest, which was the third one held to date.

But in a disturbing incident that happened around lunchtime today, an Apex, NC man was seen on video being being led away by police from his business in handcuffs after attempting to reopen his tattoo parlor:

California Governor Ordered by Supreme Court to Defend $75 Million Giveaway to Illegals

Californians struggling to make ends meet during extended coronavirus shutdowns were not amused when their governor, Gavin Newsom, announced the creation of a public-private partnership to give away $125 million ($500/person) in pandemic relief grants to illegal immigrants who are ineligible to receive unemployment benefits or federal stimulus checks (because they are not here legally, duh).

Newsom further explained that of the $125 million in funding, $75 million would come from taxpayer funds (without explaining any legislative process appropriating such funds) and that “a group of charities” had promised to chip in $50 million. . .

There’s only one problem. California’s Constitution forbids appropriating funds “to any corporation, association, asylum, hospital, or any other institution not under the exclusive management and control of the State as a state institution.” Newsom had attempted this method of distribution since, under state and federal law, unemployment benefits cannot be extended to illegal aliens either without caring that it was prohibited under California’s constitution, or believing that no one would care enough to challenge it.

He was wrong. On April 22 Ricardo Benitez, a legal immigrant from El Salvador, and Jessica Martinez, a Californian of Mexican/American descent, “filed an emergency petition to the California Supreme Court requesting the Court immediately stay Governor Newsom’s appropriation of $75 million to unnamed regional non-profits so they can, in turn, provide $500 checks to unemployed undocumented immigrants.” Benitez and Martinez are both Republican candidates for the California State Assembly and are represented by The Center for American Liberty in conjunction with Harmeet Dhillon and Mark Meuser of the Dhillon Law Firm.

Supreme Court Orders U.S. City to Explain Its Confiscation of Legal Guns

The U.S. Supreme Court has ordered officials in San Jose, California, to explain why they confiscated the legally owned guns of Lori Rodriguez. . .

The case was brought by the Second Amendment Foundation on behalf of the woman. . .

“We’re encouraged by this development in the case,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “If the city thought they could just ignore this case and make it go away, they’re wrong.” . . .

“Her firearms were seized seven years ago after her husband was taken to a hospital on a mental health issue,” the foundation said. “At the time, a San Jose police officer advised Rodriguez he had authority to seize all firearms in the residence, including those belonging solely to her, which were all locked in a California-approved safe. The guns were taken without a warrant, and over Rodriguez’s objection.”

Gottlieb said the inquiry is “a significant development, because it signals the Supreme Court is interested in the case.” (Read more from “Supreme Court Orders U.S. City to Explain Its Confiscation of Legal Guns” HERE)

Study: Coronavirus Outbreak up to 55 Times More Widespread, Less Deadly Than Predicted; States Begin to Reopen

By Breitbart. The novel coronavirus has infected roughly 4.1 percent of the population in California’s Los Angeles County, suggesting the region’s outbreak is far more widespread than previously thought, between 28 and 55 times higher than the number of confirmed cases, new research shows, echoing the findings of a similar study elsewhere in the state.

However, the new data, if accurate, also indicates that the coronavirus death rate in L.A. County, the most populous in the country, is lower than initially predicted.

Researchers from the University of Southern California (USC) and the L.A. Department of Public Health gleaned the data from antibody testing of about 863 county residents. Antibodies are an indication that an individual’s immune system has responded to a past infection.

On Monday, CNBC reported:

This new estimate is 28 to 55 times higher than the 7,994 confirmed cases of Covid-19 [coronavirus illness] reported to the county in early April. The number of coronavirus-related deaths in the county has now surpassed 600, according to the Department of Public Health. The data, if correct, would mean that the county’s fatality rate is lower than originally thought.

Southern States Start Reopenings; N.Y. Deaths Slow

By Bloomberg. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said data suggest the state outbreak has begun a descent, with deaths falling for a sixth straight day. Governors in Georgia and South Carolina took steps toward reopening their economies.

Anthony Fauci, the U.S.’s top infectious disease expert, warned those protesting lockdowns that reopening too soon could cause even more harm. A study in Los Angeles showed the virus may be more widespread than previously thought. . .

Southern Republican governors who were among the last to institute shelter-at-home orders pushed to become the first to lift them. Tattoo parlors, movie theaters and nail salons in Georgia will begin opening up this week, along with beaches, florists and shoe shops in South Carolina.

The announcements came Monday afternoon after Georgia Governor Brian Kemp spent the weekend talking to his fellow Republican governors in the South about how best to re-open their economies in response to guidelines from the White House late last week. California State Election Official Confirms Double-Voting by Mail in Super Tuesday Primary; Trump Lays Bare the Republicans’ Mail-In Voting Hypocrisy

By Breitbart. California Secretary of State Alex Padilla has confirmed that double-voting by mail took place in the March 3, 2020, Super Tuesday primary, Breitbart News has exclusively learned.

Days before Super Tuesday, citizen watchdog group Election Integrity Project California sent a letter to Padilla requesting his office look into possible double voting in the 2020 primary election.

More than a month later, in a letter dated April 7, 2020, Padilla confirmed double-voting in one case and suspected double-voting by a number of other registered voters on Super Tuesday, according to the letter obtained by Breitbart News.

Padilla confirmed in at least one case that two ballots from one voter were “opened and counted on election night.” Twelve of the 15 total registered voters identified with “duplicate voting history” are “suspected to have cast two ballots for the March primary election,” Padilla wrote in the letter.

In the remaining two cases, Padilla said county election officials “caught the duplicate voter records prior to election day and only one vote was tallied.” Padilla said the findings have been “forwarded to investigators to follow-up as necessary with the voters.” (Read more from “California State Election Official Confirms Double-Voting by Mail in Super Tuesday Primary” HERE)

Trump Lays Bare the Republicans’ Mail-In Voting Hypocrisy

By The Hill. Donald Trump warns that if voting is made easier for more people — especially some still frightened by the pandemic — “You’d never have a Republican elected in this country again.”

The president, who has been caught in thousands of lies, is saying what he really believes even if it’s hyperbole. This may be an example of a political gaffe, which Michael Kinsley described as when a politician tells “some obvious truth he isn’t supposed to say.”

This is an especially critical issue now, as parts of the country could be imperiled by the novel coronavirus’s second strike in November; the harbinger might be this month’s elections in Wisconsin, where there was a surge of absentee ballots — though in the confusion some were not counted, and others citizens were forced to choose between their health or in-person voting.

A major fight is brewing in Congress over whether to provide states with real resources to craft alternatives — more voting by mail, simplifying absentee voting, opening more and less crowded polling venues. This is fiercely opposed by Trump and Mitch McConnell as they see it helping lower income voters of color, students and citizens with disabilities. Gun Sales Surge for Asian Americans Fearing Attacks Over Coronavirus; How to Prepare and Stock up for the Coronavirus Pandemic

By Breitbart. California gun sales are surging as Asian Americans arm up to defend themselves, should they be targeted by people angry over the existence of the Corona virus.

CBS LA reports that gun stores in San Gabriel Valley are seeing gun sales skyrocket. Stores such as Arcadia Firearm & Safety are seeing “10 times” as many customers as usual, and store owner David Liu says it is because of fears caused by the Corona virus.

He said, “Because of Corona virus, a lot of people start to worry.” But he added, “If you’re prepared, you’re not afraid.”

The area is home to a large population of Asian Americans, many of whom are now seeking a firearm in order to be able to defend themselves in the event of an attack. (Read more from “Gun Sales Surge for Asian Americans Fearing Attacks Over Coronavirus” HERE)

How to Prepare and Stock up for the Coronavirus Pandemic

By New York Post. Stocking up on pain and fever relievers, prescription drugs, electrolytes and food are the most prudent ways to prepare for the coronavirus pandemic, health officials say.

People should not panic, but if the potentially deadly illness — which was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) Wednesday — lands you in quarantine, it is well-advised to have a sensible supply of food, water and essentials.

“Store a two-week supply of water and food,” the US Department of Homeland Security’s emergencies and disaster prep site, ready.gov advises, and “check your regular prescription drugs to ensure a continuous supply in your home.”

The site also recommends topping up nonprescription drugs such as pain relievers, stomach remedies, cough and cold medicines, fluids with electrolytes, and vitamins.

In addition, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is encouraging people to identify household members who may be at greater risk for serious complications — such as the elderly or those with underlying health conditions — and pay particular care in monitoring them for symptoms of the infection.
