By Townhall. Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby took the podium Wednesday amid a flurry of accusations about what Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley did under the administration of President Donald Trump and whether his actions constitute treason.

“I certainly can’t speak to the revelations that are coming out in the book” by Bob Woodward and Bob Costa, explained Kirby, directing the reporters to a previously released Pentagon statement.

But in spite of his repeated insistence he wasn’t going to speak to unconfirmed reports from a book the Pentagon hasn’t reviewed yet, Kirby had a lot to say about how normal, appropriate, and unconcerning Chairman Milley’s alleged actions were.

“What I can tell you is that it is not uncommon at all for the Department to continue to review security protocols particularly when it comes to our strategic deterrence capabilities… to make sure that they are still relevant,” said Kirby, who again claimed he was not speaking to the accusation that Milley took steps to prevent Trump from launching a nuclear strike and assured his Chinese counterpart that he would warn of any incoming American strike.

“It’s also completely appropriate — and again I’m not speaking to the validity of things that are in the book — but it is completely appropriate for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff… to want to see those protocols reviewed on whatever frequent basis that he wants to do that.”

Milley Should Spend More Time Studying Treason and Less Time Studying Critical Race Theory

By Washington Examiner. United States Army General and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley is either a liar, a traitor, or completely incompetent. Either way, it is becoming clear that he is part of the elitist swamp, inept at his job, and sabotaging U.S. national security interests.

Authors Bob Woodward and Robert Costa write that Milley made secret phone calls to Gen. Li Zuocheng of the People’s Liberation Army and informed him that he would notify him before the U.S would attack. If true, this is dangerous and should result in Milley losing his job.

It would be an overreaction to call Milley’s actions treasonous because of back-channel communications with a foe. President John F. Kennedy famously had back-channel communications with Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The fact that Milley was communicating with Zuocheng is not the problem. The problem is, if Woodward’s accusations are true, Milley went behind the back of the commander in chief and offered to betray the U.S. by warning China of any attack. Milley’s Team Defends Alleged ‘Secret’ Calls With China, Concern for Nuke Codes

By Fox News. A spokesperson for Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley is defending allegations of “secret” calls with his Chinese counterpart, saying the conversations are “vital” to “reducing tensions” and “avoiding unintended consequences or conflict,” maintaining that the calls were coordinated with high-level defense officials.

“The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs regularly communicates with Chiefs of Defense across the world, including with China and Russia. These conversations remain vital to improving mutual understanding of U.S. national security interests, reducing tensions, providing clarity and avoiding unintended consequences or conflict,” Milley spokesman Col. Dave Butler said in a statement Wednesday.

Butler said that Milley’s calls “with the Chinese and others in October and January were in keeping with these duties and responsibilities conveying reassurance in order to maintain strategic stability.”

“All calls from the Chairman to his counterparts, including those reported, are staffed, coordinated and communicated with the Department of Defense and the interagency,” Butler said.

“Also in keeping with his responsibilities as senior military advisor to the President and Secretary of Defense, General Milley frequently conducts meetings with uniformed leaders across the Services to ensure all leaders are aware of current issues,” Butler continued. “The meeting regarding nuclear weapons protocols was to remind uniformed leaders in the Pentagon of the long-established and robust procedures in light of media reporting on the subject.” (Read more from “Milley’s Team Defends Alleged ‘Secret’ Calls With China, Concern for Nuke Codes” HERE)

Chinese State Media Warns of Military Action if Taiwan Office Changes Name

In China on Sunday, a state-run media outlet warned of “severe” military and economic consequences against Taiwan if Washington allows the self-ruled island to change the name of its representative office in the U.S.

The Global Times referred to a Financial Times report from Friday saying that President Joe Biden’s administration is considering allowing the office to change its name from the “Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office” (TECRO) to the “Taiwan Representative Office.”

The Chinese paper warned such a change would seriously anger Beijing and provoke a “severe” military and economic response:

“If the U.S. and the Taiwan island change the names, they are suspected of touching the red line of China’s Anti-Secession Law, and the Chinese mainland will have to take severe economic and military measures to combat the arrogance of the U.S. and the island of Taiwan. China Mocks U.S. With Supposed Video of Taliban Using Military Planes as Toys (VIDEO)

China has mocked the United States’ chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan by sharing footage that supposedly shows Taliban fighters turning abandoned US military planes into toys.

Chinese governmental official Lijian Zhao, who is the spokesperson for the foreign ministry, tweeted the video Thursday.

“The graveyard of EMPIRES and their WAR MACHINES. Talibans have turned their planes into swings and toys,” Zhao tweeted alongside the video.

It wasn’t immediately clear where the footage was taken, or if it was filmed after US troops withdrew from Afghanistan.

Chinese Ambassador Warns of ‘Disastrous Consequences’ if U.S. Takes Hard Line on China

The Chinese ambassador to the United States warned of “disastrous consequences” for U.S.-China relations if America uses a “Cold War playbook” against China.

“It would be absurd and dangerous to apply the ‘Cold War playbook’ to today’s China-U.S. relations,” Qin Gang, who was appointed by Beijing on July 28, said Tuesday in his first major speech as ambassador. “Many countries are reluctant or concerned about being forced by the [United States] to pick sides. I hope American politicians would seriously consider: Does suppressing China really serve their purpose? Does it really meet America’s own interests? Who can bear the disastrous consequences to China-U.S. relations and the world? Dealing with China from a position of strength—the Chinese people simply do not accept it.”

Qin also called on the Biden administration to reverse the “extreme China policy” of the Trump administration.

The ambassador’s speech comes on the heels of similar remarks from senior Chinese officials. President Xi Jinping and Foreign Minister Wang Yi panned the United States for escalating tensions to the point of a “Cold War,” a conflict which they say China has no interest in fighting. China Orders Broadcasters to ‘Put An End’ to ‘Sissy Men’

The Chinese government ordered its TV broadcasters to “put an end to sissy men and other abnormal esthetics,” its TV regulator said, as China’s Communist Party cracks down on its society for a “national rejuvenation” ordered by President Xi Jinping, the Associated Press reported.

China’s TV regulator insultingly addressed effeminate men with the slang term “niang pao” meaning “girlie guns.” The order to “put an end” to them demonstrates the Chinese government’s worries that male pop stars provide a lack of masculine influence for the nation’s men. Meanwhile, in nearby Japan and South Korea, many male pop stars are known for having a sleek and feminine image.

In addition, broadcasters were ordered to not promote “vulgar internet celebrities” alongside celebrity culture and that broadcasters should “vigorously promote excellent Chinese traditional culture, revolutionary culture and advanced socialist culture.”

U.S. Scientists Continue Their Treachery in Assisting China’s Biowarfare Program

On June 9, 2020, the former Chair of Harvard University’s Chemistry and Chemical Biology Department, Dr. Charles Lieber, was indicted on charges of making false statements to federal authorities regarding his participation in China’s Thousand Talents Program.

China’s Thousand Talents Program is one of the most prominent Chinese talent recruitment plans designed to attract, recruit and cultivate high-level scientific talent in furtherance of China’s scientific development, economic prosperity and national security. These talent recruitment efforts seek to lure Chinese overseas talent and foreign experts to bring their knowledge and experience to China, and they often reward individuals for stealing proprietary information.

Beginning in 2011, Lieber became a “Strategic Scientist” at China’s Wuhan University of Technology and later became a contractual participant in the Thousand Talents Plan from at least 2012 through 2015.

Accusations of lying to federal investigators aside, Lieber may have significantly contributed to China’s biological warfare program.

Geng-feng Zheng is a professor of chemistry at Fudan University in Shanghai, China. He received a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry in 2007 from Harvard University under the guidance of Dr. Charles Lieber and completed postdoctoral training at Northwestern University.

Zheng is an expert in nanotechnologies and, together with Lieber in 2004, began to investigate the use of nanowire field effect transistors to detect single viruses.

The collaboration between Zheng and Lieber continued even after 2010, when Zheng became a professor at Fudan University, together producing no less than eleven scientific publications on nanowire technologies.

But the collaboration did not end there. In accordance with China’s practice of “scientific chain migration,” Zheng’s student at Fudan University, An-Qi Zhang, continued the work with Lieber on nano-bioelectronics.

In 2016, An-Qi Zhang, Geng-feng Zheng and Charles Lieber published a book “Nanowires – Building Blocks for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.”

China’s People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) biosensor program is based on nanotechnologies, in particular, nanowire field effect transistor biosensors.

Since 2016, there has been a massive expansion of fused military-civilian research in China after it was mandated by the Chinese Communist Party’s Thirteenth Five-Year Plan.

A key figure in China’s military-civilian biosensor program is Mao-sheng Yao of Peking University.

Mao-sheng Yao is an expert in the surveillance and measurement of microorganisms in the environment, who, incidentally, was entirely educated in U.S. universities, receiving a Master’s degree from the University of Alabama, a doctoral degree from Rutgers University and postdoctoral training at Yale University.

In 2018, during a kick-off seminar entitled “Bioaerosol Detection Technology Strategic Collaboration,” Mao-sheng Yao announced a fused military-civilian research program with the PLA’s National Bio-protection Engineering Center, Institute of Medical Support Technology, Institute of Systems Engineering, Academy of Military Sciences in Tianjin, led by Jian-cheng Qi.

Mao-sheng Yao and Geng-feng Zheng, Charles Lieber’s former student, have conducted collaborative research on nanowire bio-detection, co-authoring a publication in 2018.

Also in 2018, Jian-cheng Qi’s research group at the PLA’s National Bio-protection Engineering Center in Tianjin published an article entitled “Applications of silicon nanowire FET biosensors to bacterial and viral detection.”

In December 2019, Mao-sheng Yao was granted a Chinese patent entitled “Method for rapidly detecting pathogenic microorganisms in air and respiratory tract on site.”

It is important to note that Jian-cheng Qi’s research group at the PLA’s National Bio-protection Engineering Center has operated under Major General Wei Chen, presumed chief of China’s biowarfare program, who took command in Wuhan after the outbreak of COVID-19, a response highlighted in Chinese news reports and no doubt including stolen U.S. technologies. Jian-cheng Qi was part of her team in Wuhan.

The massive infiltration of U.S. virus research programs by China’s People’s Liberation Army and the hemorrhaging of American skills and knowledge into China’s biowarfare program remain unaddressed.

Top Admiral Warns of Rapid Chinese, Russian Nuclear Arms Buildup

Admiral Charles Richard, chief of U.S. Strategic Command, warned that China and Russia are building up their nuclear stockpiles at an unprecedented rate.

Richard said Thursday that China’s nuclear weapons Buildup and Russia’s advanced nuclear capabilities have prompted a reassessment of America’s ability to defend itself.

“We are in uncharted waters,” Richard said at a Hudson Institute event. “We are facing a class of potential adversaries that we haven’t had to deal with in 30 years.”

Richard’s remarks come amid a heated fight over the future of America’s nuclear arsenal, as national security staff in the White House and lawmakers such as Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) Samples From Early Wuhan COVID Patients Had Genetically Modified Henipah, One of Two Types of Viruses Sent From Canadian Lab

Samples from early Wuhan COVID-19 patients show the presence of genetically modified Henipah virus, an American scientist has found.

Henipah was one of the two types of viruses sent to China by Chinese-born scientists from a Canadian laboratory at the centre of a controversy over the firing of the scientists and collaboration with Chinese military researchers. It is not clear whether the virus found in the Chinese samples is related to the virus samples sent by the Canadian lab, which were shipped in late March 2019.

The finding was confirmed for The Epoch Times by another qualified scientist.

The evidence was first found by Dr. Steven Quay, a Seattle-based physician-scientist and former faculty member at the Stanford University School of Medicine, who looked at early COVID-19 samples uploaded by scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) shortly after China informed the World Health Organization about the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak.

The samples from the patients, who reportedly were found to have an “unknown pneumonia disease” in December 2019, were uploaded to the genetic sequence database, GenBank, on the website of the U.S. National Institute of Health (NIH). China Claims COVID Origin Investigation May Be Way To Put Trump in Office

In an attempt to discredit the U.S. Intelligence Community’s investigation into the origin of COVID-19, The Global Times, a Chinese state-run media outlet, promoted a baseless theory that its goal is to “overthrow” President Joe Biden’s administration.

Biden received the Intelligence Community’s report on the origin of COVID-19 on Tuesday, as its 90-day deadline was set to expire. Contents of the report have not been made public, but the Intelligence Community has reportedly been unable to reach a consensus on how the pandemic began, keeping both the lab leak theory and natural origin theory on the table.

Amidst an already strained relationship, China has been heavily critical of the Intelligence Community’s involvement in the origin-finding process, as they aren’t scientists.

On Tuesday, Gao Lei, a Global Times reporter, called it “absurd” to involve intelligence organizations, who he accused of only serving “politics and repeatedly fabricated false information for Washington’s political needs.” Gao added that the investigation may be a “plot to overthrow his administration,” in reference to Biden. Chinese Embassy Calls For WHO Investigation of U.S. Lab

The Chinese embassy called for a World Health Organization investigation into a United States military lab more than 7,500 miles away from the first documented cases of COVID-19 in Wuhan, China.

Chinese embassy spokesman Liu Pengyu responded to a Washington Free Beacon report on a Chinese propaganda campaign that claims the coronavirus leaked from a military lab in Fort Detrick, Md., saying the campaign not only reflects “serious concerns” but also warrants a full WHO investigation into the U.S. military installation.

“About Fort Detrick, the US has remained silent on the serious concerns raised by the international community, including US media,” Liu told the Free Beacon. “The US side must understand that the international community has every reason to raise questions about Fort Detrick, which has a poor track record and is notorious for breaches in lab and contaminant leak, and demand clarification and explanation from the US side and call on the WHO to conduct a thorough investigation into it.
