House Impeaches Mayorkas, First Cabinet Member Impeached in Nearly 150 Years

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was impeached by the House Tuesday night in a narrow 214 to 213 vote, becoming the first cabinet official to be impeached in almost a century and a half.

William Belknap, Secretary of War to President Ulysses S. Grant, was impeached by the House in 1876, despite resigning before the vote.

Belknap was acquitted by the Senate, an outcome sure to be repeated if the Senate does not procedurally kill Mayorkas’s impeachment.

Nevertheless, Republicans can claim they secured a rare opportunity in a bitterly divided Congress to hold the Biden administration accountable on what could be the election-defining issue of 2024.

There’s Been Over 1.5 Million Migrant Encounters at the Border Since Mayorkas Last Said It Was ‘Secure’ (VIDEO)

There have been over 1.5 million migrant encounters at the southern border since Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas last said “the border is secure.”

Mayorkas faces impeachment in the House of Representatives over his handling of the border “crisis,” a word he will not use, as illegal immigration continues to surge under the Biden administration. The U.S. Border Patrol made 1,589,148 migrant encounters at the southern border since Mayorkas last said that the “border is secure” during a House Homeland Security Committee hearing in April 2023, according to Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) and data obtained by Fox News.

Mayorkas testified before the committee and was asked whether he believed all nine sectors of the southern border were secure. Mayorkas replied that the question was more complex than a simple “yes or no” response, but assured the committee that he believed that “the border is secure” – a phrase he has utilized multiple times – and noted that various agencies were working to increase its security.

Speaker Johnson Vows Mayorkas Will Be Impeached

The failed vote to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was a “setback,” but House Republicans will try again and prevail, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) declared on Wednesday.

Johnson spoke to reporters on Capitol Hill the morning after a series of votes in which lawmakers were unable to approve impeachment articles against Mayorkas over his handling of the border crisis as well as a $17.6 billion Israel aid package.

“Last night was a setback, but democracy is messy,” Johnson said in response to a question on impeachment, noting the House GOP has a “razor thin margin” over the Democrats.

The speaker alluded to Rep. Al Green (D-TX), who showed up at the last moment to cast his vote while in a wheelchair after being rushed from a hospital where he has been recovering from abdominal surgery.

“Sometimes when you’re counting votes and people show up when they’re not expected to be in the building, that changes the equation,” Johnson said.

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Survives Impeachment

The House of Representatives failed to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday due to absences and defections.

There were some doubts about whether Republicans would have the votes to impeach Mayorkas. They could only afford to lose three votes, and Reps. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) and Tom McClintock (R-Calif.) had previously indicated that they intended to vote against impeachment. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) was absent because he is undergoing cancer treatment.

The House vote was 214-216. Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wisc.) joined Buck and McClintock in voting with Democrats against the resolution.

New Emails Show DHS Created Stanford ‘Disinfo’ Group That Censored Speech Before 2020 Election

New emails show officials at the Department of Homeland Security created a Stanford University “disinformation” group that censored Americans’ speech before the 2020 election, according to a House Judiciary Committee report exclusively obtained by The Post.

The House panel’s 103-page staff interim report says never-before-seen emails and internal communications were obtained from the group, known as the Election Integrity Partnership (EIP), and show how it worked with DHS’ Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to flag, suppress and remove online speech in coordination with big tech companies.

One of EIP’s founding partners — the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab — described CISA’s central role in the alleged censorship effort in a July 31, 2020, email.

“I know the Council has a number of efforts on broad policy around the elections, but we just set up an election integrity partnership at the request of DHS/CISA and are in weekly comms to debrief about disinfo,” the lab’s senior director Graham Brookie wrote.

Federal Contractor Urges DHS to Ditch Term ‘Illegal Immigrant,’ Says ‘Jihadist’ Is ‘Racially Charged’

A federal contractor that’s received hundreds of millions of dollars from the federal government is pushing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to adopt “inclusive language,” replacing terms like “illegal immigrant” with “undocumented noncitizen,” “riot” with “protest,” and suggesting that terms such as “looter” and “jihadist” have become “racially charged.”

The report from the RAND Corporation, a nonprofit which operates the Homeland Security Operational Analysis Center as a “federally funded research and development center,” charges the DHS uses language that is “insulting, demeaning, dehumanizing, offensive, embarrassing, or othering or otherwise make individuals feel uncomfortable, marginalized, disrespected, or unsafe.”

Titled “Language, Labels, and the DHS Lexicon,” the report was drafted on behalf of the agency’s Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties. It particularly focuses on immigration enforcement, counterterrorism efforts, and law enforcement, charging that these three operation areas use offensive language, relying on interviews with 15 individuals under the jurisdiction of DHS.

Buying Friends: Mayorkas Gave $1 Billion in Extra Vacation to DHS Employees

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has granted his employees more than $1 billion worth of additional taxpayer-funded vacation time, according to department staffers, who say Mr. Mayorkas is using taxpayers’ money in an ill-fated attempt to win affection from an alienated workforce.

Mr. Mayorkas, who has been on the job for roughly 2½ years, has approved 115 hours of additional leave per employee. That includes 45 hours, or more than a full extra week off, in his first year, followed by 48 hours in 2022 and 24 hours so far this year.

Figuring 260,000 department employees and an average hourly pay of about $40 per employee, that means Mr. Mayorkas has doled out at least $1.2 billion in additional taxpayer-funded vacation time. Law enforcement and high cost-of-living locality pay could mean the actual figure is significantly higher.

“The numbers are astounding,” said Emilio Gonzalez, who ran one of the department’s agencies in the Bush years. “You’re hovering at just over a billion dollars right now, on the low end. Meet the Violent Anarchist Behind DHS’s ‘Pyramid of Far-Right Radicalization’ Scandal

Last week, the Media Research Center (MRC) published a report gleaned from Freedom of Information Act requests that shows how the Biden administration has weaponized the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to target political opponents. DHS provided $352,109 in grant funding to the University of Dayton’s PREVENTS-OH counter-extremism project. The grant application was based in part on the work of openly anarchist Antifa-affiliated Michael Loadenthal, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cincinnati who, by his own admission, is a far-left violent extremist.

In 2021, Loadenthal spoke at a “White Nationalism Workshop” and an “Extremism, Rhetoric and Democratic Precarity” roundtable at the University’s “Social Practice Of Human Rights Conference.” During the white nationalism workshop, Loadenthal introduced himself by stating that he is militant Antifa; he then continued his talk by teaching audience members how to securely dox people to their employers. He detailed how he uses a VPN, burner phones, encrypted communications, and “sock puppet” accounts to dox people.

Throughout the talk he framed his work in explicitly “antifascist” terms, explaining how he employs “antifascist intelligence” to dox individuals online and in real life. He detailed what “antifascists” do with that information: “We contact employers, landlords, commanding officers, school officials, family, clergy, and we pressure service providers [PayPal, GoFundMe, Patreon, Amazon etc.] … and people will kick people off.” When asked during the question-and-answer section how people can help his work, he stated, “Donate money … We have defense funds because we get into trouble. A lot of the things we’re doing are illegal … a lot of it involves breaking the law.”

Loadenthal’s talk is a naked attempt to launder Antifa tactics of online harassment, doxxing, deplatforming, and illegal activity to make them sound academic. The danger of mainstreaming these violent extremist tactics became glaringly obvious in Loadenthal’s second presentation at the conference.

His talk on “Extremism, Rhetoric, and Democratic Precarity” opened with an image entitled “The Pyramid of Far-Right Radicalization.” In it, he presented a taxonomy of the “far right,” which implies a pipeline from mainstream conservatism to violent extremist terrorism. He stated, “This is the modern far-right as articulated by what I think are some smart folk. DHS to Train Citizens to Spot Radical Conservatives

The government not only has slammed conservative parents attending school board meetings as domestic terrorists, it now is producing videos explaining how the general population can watch for – and be wary of – those “radicals.”

A report from Reed. D. Rubinstein, of American First Legal, explains, “The Department of Homeland Security’s transformation into a domestic intelligence organization and a Stasi-like Deep State internal security apparatus is alarming. . .

America First this week released online copies of documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act from the Department of Homeland Security that “reveal shocking internal documents from the Office of Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention.” . . .

The organization reported an internal memo, from Jan. 29, 2021, just eight days after Joe Biden moved into the White House, a “Choose Your Own Adventure” game-like memo for people to make “real-life decisions” based on “radicalization” scenarios.

GOP Rep Says DHS Are Complicit in Human Trafficking at the Border

Republican Texas Rep. Michael McCaul said Sunday that the Department of Homeland Security is complicit in human trafficking at the U.S. southern border with Mexico.

McCaul made the comment while appearing on ABC’s “This Week,” hosted by Martha Raddatz, who turned the topic to House Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s call for DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to resign or face impeachment on Tuesday for his handling of the U.S. southern border with Mexico. . .
