D'Souza Spared Prison for Violating Election Law

Photo Credit: REUTERS / LUCAS JACKSONConservative author and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza avoided prison on Tuesday when a U.S. judge sentenced him to serve eight months in a community confinement center after he pleaded guilty to violating campaign finance law.

D’Souza, 53, was ordered by U.S. District Judge Richard Berman in Manhattan to live in a center, which would allow him to leave during non-residential hours for employment, for the first eight months of a five-year probationary period.

Berman also ordered D’Souza to perform one day of community service a week during probation, undergo weekly therapy and pay a $30,000 fine.

D’Souza, a frequent critic of U.S. President Barack Obama, admitted in May to illegally reimbursing two “straw donors” who donated $10,000 each to the unsuccessful 2012 U.S. Senate campaign in New York of Wendy Long, a Republican he had known since attending Dartmouth College in the early 1980s.

“It was a crazy idea, it was a bad idea,” D’Souza told Berman before being sentenced. “I regret breaking the law.”

D'Souza Announces Tour to Bring "America" Documentary to College Campuses

Moore of the right,” is launching a college tour this fall to introduce and discuss with students his new documentary, “America: Imagine a World Without Her.” The film challenges the notion that America is a “predatory colonial power” that relied on thievery and exploitation to earn its prominent place in the world.

The tour is being sponsored by the Young America’s Foundation. From the organization’s press release:

Following the release of his breakthrough documentary, America, which has surpassed Michael Moore’s “Capitalism” at the box office, Dinesh D’Souza will be taking the message of his film directly to college students. As showcased in the film, America’s greatness is under attack by those who argue that our country’s founding was based on the theft of America’s natural resources and the exploitation of Native Americans and others around the world. Many of these attacks originate on college campuses and Dinesh will bring the message of the film to young people who often only hear a one-sided view of our history.

D'Souza: Obama's Retreat From The World Enabled Airliner Tragedy

President Barack Obama is remaking the world according to his vision of a less influential America, and one result is chaos abroad that leads to disasters like the apparent shootdown this week of a passenger jet over war-torn Ukraine, conservative author and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza told Newsmax TV on Friday.

“This downing of the airplane is a small indication of what happens when American power is subtracted from the world,” D’Souza told “MidPoint” host Ed Berliner.

It’s an argument that coincides with the theme of D’Souza’s new docu-drama movie, “America: Imagine the World Without Her,” and companion book of the same title.

In print and on screen, D’Souza contends that the progressive moment’s relentlessly downbeat portrait of America emphasizes past failings, portrays national strengths as liabilities, and shuns the country’s essential contributions to global peace, prosperity and freedom.

D’Souza said President Obama, in withdrawing from the international stage and conceding management of global affairs to others, is helping to make the movie’s point.

Costco Removing D'Souza's "America" from Shelves (+video)

Photo Credit: WNDOriginally published at WND.

The retail giant Costco Wholesale has issued an order to remove all copies of Dinesh D’Souza’s bestselling book America: Imagine the World Without Her from the shelves of its stores nationwide, WND has confirmed.

The book, in this mid-term election year, is a strong rebuttal of the progressive ideology behind President Obama’s policies, which have been supported by Costco co-founder and director Jim Senegal, a major Democrat donor and a speaker at the 2012 Democratic National Convention that nominated the president. A Washington Post political reporter has noted Obama’s “romance” with the nation’s second-largest retailer.

At Amazon.com, D’Souza’s book, released June 2, is ranked No. 43 overall and is the No. 3 hardcover book in Amazon’s Politics and Government section and No. 1 in the Commentary and Opinion subsection of Politics and Government.

Costco has sold more than 3,600 copies of America nationwide, with about 700 copies sold last week as D’Souza’s film by the same name opened at more than 1,000 movie theaters nationwide.

But Costco’s book department issued the “pull-order,” requiring all Costco stores nationwide to remove the book, confirmed Scott Losse, an inventory control specialist in the book department at the Costco Wholesale corporate office in Issaquah, Wash., a suburb of Seattle.

A Story to be Proud Of

By Richard Butrick.

Ayers the Guilt Monger: “And we did enslave people for 250 years”

In the recent debate between Ayers and D’Souza on “The Kelly File”, with Ayers, former anti-Vietnam war activist and sometime mentor of President Obama, representing the leftist ashamed-to-be-an-American crowd and D’Souza, defending American exceptionalism, Ayers claimed that Americans should be ashamed of their record of 250 years of slavery.

It is not clear whether Mr. Ayers is claiming that Americans today should feel personally to blame (guilty) for slavery in America or just that the period of American history when slavery was de facto a legal institution is a shameful period of American history.

The personally-to-blame argument is silly. The Italians and Irish who immigrated to the U.S. in the 18th and 19th century and worked in factories and railroads and dams and bridges are to be blamed for slavery? And their descendants to boot?

In the 1860 census about 1/3 of all Southern families owned slaves. What about the other 2/3ds? Are they and their descendants to blame? And in the Northern states where slavery was virtually nonexistent in 1860? Are they and their descendants to blame? What about descendants of families that ran the underground railroad?

Film Critics Hate 'America'

Dinesh D’Souza shocked the movie world in 2012 with his anti-President Barack Obama documentary “2016,” which became the second highest-grossing documentary in U.S. movie history. On July 2, he unveiled his new documentary called “America: Imagine the World Without Her.” It has already grossed $5 million in its first week. One fictional competitor, the abortion-promoting comedy “Obvious Child,” barely grossed $2 million in its first month.

But there’s a more dramatic contrast. Film critics are supposed to judge art, but their liberal politics are smeared all over their reviews. Metacritic.com collects and analyzes movie reviews. “Obvious Child” drew a high Metacritic.com score of 75 (out of 100). For D’Souza’s “America,” it was a ridiculously low score of 14.

Then take the highest-grossing documentary in our history, Michael Moore’s 2004 hatchet job “Fahrenheit 9/11.” Editor and Publisher magazine reported nine of 10 newspaper movie critics recommended the film.

The Washington Post gushed over Moore’s prankumentary. “Its trajectory is guided with pinpoint accuracy,” wrote Desson Thomson, and it “obviously skews facts to its own advantage, but that’s what the game is all about. What counts is the emotional power of Moore’s persuasion.”

“Fahrenheit” was loaded with bizarre and unproven charges against former President George W. Bush, most offensively suggesting the Bush family and Osama bin Laden’s family were in cahoots over 9/11. Moore concluded the film with a conspiracy theory: “In principle, the war effort is always planned to keep society on the brink of starvation. The war is waged by the ruling group against its own subjects.” All of that was just fine.

Dinesh D’Souza’s ‘America’ Warns Hillary Clinton Will ‘Finish Off’ the Country

Photo Credit: Washington Examiner In his highly anticipated new book and movie “America,” conservative author Dinesh D’Souza is warning that Hillary Clinton won’t be a clone of her moderate husband, but will instead take the baton from President Obama to continue radicalizing the country and “undo the nation’s founding ideals.”

“America — Imagine a World Without Her,” published by Regnery and set for release Monday, charges that as students of radical organizer Saul Alinsky, Obama and Clinton could have enough time to “unmake and then remake America” into a nation the founding fathers wouldn’t recognize.

“They may not be responsible for the suicide of America, but they certainly will have helped to finish off a certain way of life in America, and they will leave us with a country unrecognizable not only to Washington and Jefferson but also to those of us who grew up in the 20th century,” wrote D’Souza.

“If they succeed, there may be no going back. Then it will be their America, not ours, and we will be a people bereft of a country, with no place to go,” he adds on page 87.

“America” is D’Souza’s latest book and movie on how he sees progressive politics hurting the nation. He also created the movie “2016: Obama’s America,” which was the second highest-grossing political documentary.

D’Souza: I Was ‘Stupid’ but Prosecution Was Selective

By Greg Richter.

Conservative scholar and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza says it was “wrong” and “stupid” of him to use friends to contribute more to a political campaign than allowed by law. But he still insists selective prosecution was involved.

D’Souza pleaded guilty Tuesday to federal election fraud charges, and could face prison time. He admitted to reimbursing two associates $10,000 each for money they gave to the campaign of New York U.S. Senate candidate Wendy Long, a Republican running for the seat once held by Hillary Clinton.

D’Souza told Fox News Channel’s “The Kelly File” on Tuesday night that he had no intent to defraud and never denied making the reimbursements.

“That was wrong,” D’Souza said. “It’s an end-around campaign finance law. I acknowledge responsibility, and I did admit doing that from the beginning.”

Long’s campaign was flailing and he wanted to help her, D’Souza said. “I just chose the wrong and stupid way to do it. I shouldn’t have done it.”

Photo Credit: TownHall Dinesh D’Souza Pleads Guilty to Violating Campaign Finance Law

By Katie Pavlich.

Author and conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza plead guilty this morning to one count on federal charges detailed in an indictment accusing him of violating campaign finance laws and making false statements. D’Souza admitted in front of the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, that he did in fact ask two people to make contributions in their name and later reimbursed them, knowing it was not proper under the law. D’Souza submitted a plea deal on May 19 and the charge of making false statements was dropped. Judge Richard Berman accepted his guilty plea today and set a sentencing date for September 23, 2014. The government argued attorneys would be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt the defendant, D’Souza, is guilty. There will be no trial by jury in this case.

“Guilty your honor,” D’Souza said, adding that he deeply regrets his actions.

“The plea is now accepted and Mr. D’Souza is now guilty under the indictment,” Berman replied.

Dinesh D’Souza’s New Film Trailer for ‘America’ the Movie Released

“America” The MovieFilmmaker Dinesh D’Souza said he is innocent of campaign finance fraud charges — and criticized President Barack Obama’s leadership, during a dramatic appearance at Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday.

“I’ve pleaded not guilty. And yes, I’m innocent,” D’Souza told Business Insider in an interview at CPAC where he made a keynote address.

Addressing an audience of 3,500, D’Souza tore into President Barack Obama.

He said the Democratic commander-in-chief was turning into the type of leader D’Souza warned of in his award-winning 2012 documentary, “2016: Obama’s America.”

Meanwhile, D’Souza unveiled a new trailer for his upcoming movie, “America,” which is based on the premise that the United States lost the Revolutionary War.

Dinesh D’Souza’s 2016 Obama Documentary Blows Away Industry Estimates, Grossing Millions

Dinesh D’Souza felt that President Barack Obama had been telling his story to Americans for years. The conservative author wanted to give them a different version. So he worked on a documentary, “2016: Obama’s America,” that put the president in a more critical light. And apparently, there’s an audience that agrees with D’Souza’s vision.

In its first week in wider distribution, the documentary grossed an estimated $6.2 million, far exceeding industry expectations, according to independent distributor Rocky Mountain Pictures. That was virtually the same amount as the major studio action film “Premium Rush” collected – and “Obama’s America” was playing in roughly 1,100 fewer theaters.

“I realized Obama was telling his own story in his own voice and thought it would be interesting to use his voice in a documentary where it would be indisputable to people that this was Obama’s own narrative,” said D’Souza, who wrote and directed the film with John Sullivan.

The film draws heavily from D’Souza’s own life, as he describes how coming to study in America from his native India helped to shape his political ideology. Throughout the 90-minute film, he often addresses the camera face-forward, pointing out the similarities between his upbringing and Obama’s. Many of the author’s arguments about Obama’s support of anti-colonialism are drawn from D’Souza’s controversial book “The Roots of Obama’s Rage,” and the movie frequently uses dramatic reenactments featuring unknown actors to depict past events.

Heading into the weekend, pre-release audience surveys suggested “Obama’s America” would gross about $4 million – but by midday Friday, ticket sales were so brisk that estimates were lifted to $6 million. The movie debuted seven weeks ago here and had raked in $2.4 million as it expanded from 169 theaters to 1,091 locations this weekend. The film currently is in 12 theaters in the Houston area. In total, the film has sold $9.1 million worth of tickets.
