Fentanyl Pushed U.S. Drug Overdose Deaths to Record High in 2021

Drug overdose deaths in the United States hit record highs in 2021, primarily due to an increase in synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, a vast majority of which is trafficked from Mexico across the southwest U.S. border.

According to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 108,000 people appear to have died of drug overdoses in 2021. That’s a nearly 15 percent increase in drug-related deaths compared to 2020.

Overdose deaths have been on the rise in the United States since the 1970s but spiked significantly throughout the Covid-19 pandemic during government-mandated lockdowns. Since 2019, drug overdose deaths, especially due to mixes created with powdery, synthetic opioids such as fentanyl and stimulants such as methamphetamine, have spiked nearly 50 percent.

In 2020, approximately 58,000 deaths were recorded involving synthetic opioids, mostly fentanyl. By 2021, that number rose to 71,000.

In South Texas ports of entry alone, U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized 588 pounds of fentanyl in the 2021 fiscal year, a 1,066 percent increase since FY2020. (Read more from “Fentanyl Pushed U.S. Drug Overdose Deaths to Record High in 2021” HERE)

Let’s Go Brandon! Overdose Deaths Soar From Fentanyl, Flowing From Mexico, China

American drug-related overdose deaths are soaring from fentanyl, a powerful synthetic drug that originates from China and enters the United States’ unsealed border with Mexico, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

“For the first time, more than 100,000 Americans had died of drug overdoses over a 12-month period,” the Associated Press (AP) reported. “About two-thirds of the deaths were linked to fentanyl and other synthetic drugs, which can be 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine, heroin or prescription opioids.”

In some states, possession with intent to distribute less than 14 grams of fentanyl is a two-year prison-worthy offense. According to the Drug Enforcement Agency, the drug is so potent that 14 grams can constitute 700 deadly doses.

The AP also acknowledged that fentanyl originates from China, then moves through Mexico, and thereby enters the rustbelt states. The states most impacted by fentanyl are West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Ohio — all rural states with dominant white populations.

“The Texas Military Department said that from March 2021 through earlier this month, its troops near the border confiscated more than 1,200 pounds (540 kilograms) of fentanyl,” the AP reported. “By comparison, federal authorities reported confiscating about 11,000 pounds (4,990 kilograms) in 2021 — still a fraction of what entered the country.” (Read more from “Let’s Go Brandon! Numerous Hospitalized From Fentanyl Released in Air Vents at Juvenile Detention Center

Seven people were taken to the hospital Sunday night after fentanyl was released through the air vents at the Northwest Ohio Juvenile Detention Training and Rehabilitation Center in Williams County, authorities said.

Three corrections officers and four juveniles who were detained in the facility were taken to the hospital, according to Jeff Lehman, chief deputy for the Williams County Sheriff’s Department. He but added that they’re stable and expected to be OK. . .

The other detainees were moved to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio next door, Lehman said, and are being kept separate from the adults. (Read more from “Numerous Hospitalized From Fentanyl Released in Air Vents at Juvenile Detention Center” HERE)

As Fentanyl Deaths Double, Harris Ignores the Drugs Pouring Over the Southern Border

Fentanyl deaths have doubled in two years, and black men are seeing the biggest increases in drug overdoses. So why isn’t Vice President Kamala Harris doing something about the illicit drugs coming into the country through the southern border?

When the Biden administration assumed power, it promised us that Harris, who is of black and South Asian descent, was a new type of revolutionary champion for people of color, especially black Americans. And the president put her in charge of one of the country’s biggest crises (albeit one of his own making), as record numbers of illegal immigrants and drug traffickers have swamped the southern border.

It’s clear she’s failing — and with deadly consequences.

Shockingly, Harris doesn’t seem jolted by the fact that fentanyl overdoses are the top cause of death for Americans aged 18 to 45 — more deadly than car accidents, cancer and suicide. Drug overdoses are also more fatal in this prime age group than COVID-19.

While the Biden administration continues to push ineffective policies and COVID fearmongering, people are dying in isolation and desperation from drug overdoses. (Read more from “As Fentanyl Deaths Double, Harris Ignores the Drugs Pouring Over the Southern Border” HERE)
