All the Lies From Biden’s ‘Ghost Gun’ Event

Speaking in the Rose Garden on Monday, an aviator-clad President Biden trotted out more of the same misleading claims Democrats have used for years in their attempts to demonize legal firearm ownership by law-abiding citizens. The speech, meant to announce new executive action to regulate so-called “ghost guns” (a conjured up term to make homemade guns sounds scarier), turned into a gaffe-filled exercise in misinformation.

Repeatedly referring to the ATF as “AFT” — a gaffe that apparently confused the federal agency with the teachers union — Biden also repeated several the left’s favorite anti-gun buzzwords and tropes as an excuse to justify his executive action, but — like much of what Biden says — they’re just not true. . .

There is some limited protection for firearm manufacturers… just as there are for several other industries. As Stephen Gutowski explained, “Gun manufacturers can be sued and sometimes are sued over claims of negligence. . .

Biden’s claim here seems to be that his previous work to limit firearm ownership was a success, and that claim would be false. “The law that barred the sale of assault weapons from 1994 to 2004 made little difference,” Lois Beckett reported for The New York Times years ago:

It turns out that big, scary military rifles don’t kill the vast majority of the 11,000 Americans murdered with guns each year. Little handguns do.

Biden Reportedly Set to Announce New Crackdown on Gun Rights This Week

Democrat President Joe Biden is reportedly set to announce a new crackdown on gun rights this week with one of the most extreme far-left anti-gun activists set to attend the event.

“The Biden administration will come out with its long-awaited ghost gun rule — aimed at reining in privately made firearms without serial numbers that are increasingly cropping up at crime scenes — as soon as Monday,” the Associated Press reported. “The White House has also been weighing naming Steve Dettelbach, a former U.S. attorney from Ohio, to run the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, or ATF.”

Far-left activist David Hogg tweeted on Saturday that he would be in attendance for the event, writing, “I will be at the White House on Monday for an announcement from the president of the United States on what actions are being taken to reduce gun violence.” . . .

The Biden administration released its proposed rule last May which “would modernize the definition of ‘frame or receiver’ and help close a regulatory loophole associated with the un-serialized privately made firearms that” the administration claimed “are increasingly being recovered at crime scenes across the country.” (Read more from “Biden Reportedly Set to Announce New Crackdown on Gun Rights This Week” HERE)

Biden Plan Even Worse Than Just National Gun Registry, Critic Charges

It was Rep. Michael Cloud, R-Texas, who just days ago warned of the possibility of an illegal national gun registry being assembled by Joe Biden’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

He said the “notably corrupt” agency was managing that by acquiring nearly a billion gun transfer records – so far.

He worries those details could be exploited by Biden to surveil American gun owners even while working to ban weapons.

Now John R. Lott Jr., the president of the Crime Prevention Research Center and formerly an adviser for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Policy, is explaining it’s worse than that.

In a column at Real Clear Politics, he explains not only federal officials “will have the name of everyone who legally obtained a gun,” Joe Biden now “wants to make universal background checks nationwide so he can have an even more complete registration list.” (Read more from “Biden Plan Even Worse Than Just National Gun Registry, Critic Charges” HERE)

Liberal Insanity: Biden Calls America’s Most Popular Handgun a Weapon of War During Gun Control Speech (VIDEO)

President Joe Biden called one of America’s most popular handgun a “weapon of war” Thursday while speaking about gun control in New York City.

“You know, futures cut short by a man with a stolen Glock with 40 rounds,” Biden said in reference to the two New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers who were recently gunned down in Harlem. “A magazine with 40 rounds. It’s really a weapon of war.”

The president visited the Big Apple Thursday following the fatal shooting of officers Jason Rivera and Wilbert Mora. (Read more from “Biden Calls America’s Most Popular Handgun a Weapon of War During Gun Control Speech” HERE)

Report: There Were 5.4 Million 1st-Time Gun Buyers in 2021

The National Shooting Sports Foundation says there were 5.4 million first-time gun buyers in the United States during 2021.

The report said that number was about one-third of all gun purchases, based on information from the organization’s retailer surveys and the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.

A year earlier, some 40% of the gun purchases were by first-time buyers.

“We welcome these new gun owners to the greater community of law-abiding Americans who choose to own a firearm for lawful purposes, including self-defense, recreational target shooting and hunting,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF president.

“The surveys revealed that new gun owners are continuing to embrace their Second Amendment rights and nearly half of them are seeking out professional training. These trends show that not only is there still a strong interest in gun ownership but also that these new gun owners are interested in learning more about the safe and responsible handling, use and storage of firearms,” he continued. Americans Don’t Think Radical Gun Laws Are Curbing Crime Surge in Major Cities

Americans do not believe that strict gun laws are properly addressing the rise in retail crime in major cities, a Convention of States Action/Trafalgar Group survey released Wednesday found.

The survey asked respondents, “Do you believe that the strict gun laws in most major cities are making the current retail crime surge better or worse?”

Overall, a plurality, or 47.1 percent, said they are making “no difference.” Over one-third, 37.3 percent, said the laws are making it “worse,” while 15.6 percent say “better.”

A majority of Republicans, 54.6 percent, said the gun laws are making the crime “worse,” but a majority of Democrats (53.8 percent) and independents (50.7 percent) said it makes “no difference.”

Notably, just 30.1 percent of Democrats believe the laws are making the situation better, but only 7.3 percent of Republicans and 9.8 percent of independents share that view.

Feds Pull Trigger, Collect Records on 54 Million U.S. Gun Owners

Joe Biden’s administration in Washington is collecting records on millions of gun owners across America, raising concern the anti-gun sentiment in the ranks of his appointees will deal a blow to the Second Amendment.

That Biden is anti-gun is supported by the evidence of his actions, which haven’t always followed the truth.

The Hill reported Biden was hit with a “fact-check” from the Washington Post recently when he repeated “a false claim … that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution bars citizens from owning cannons.”

Biden claimed that the Constitution limits “the type of people who could own a gun and what type of weapon…”

David Kopel, of the Independence Institute, said that simply “everything in that statement is wrong.” (Read more from “Feds Pull Trigger, Collect Records on 54 Million U.S. Gun Owners” HERE)

Biden Blow: WH Concedes Defeat on Controversial ATF Pick

The White House will withdraw the nomination of gun control activist David Chipman to lead the ATF after moderates objected to his selection — handing President Biden a key defeat on a platform promise to tighten federal gun policies.

The demise of Chipman’s nomination to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was reported by the Washington Post, Politico and Fox News. The White House did not immediately issue a statement.

It’s the second major Biden nomination to flop. Neera Tanden, Biden’s nominee to be White House budget director, was yanked after an uproar over attack tweets she issued against the very senators whose votes were needed for confirmation.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, applauded the news.

“Mr. Chipman’s long record as a partisan, anti-Second Amendment activist raised plenty of concerns about how he’d administer federal firearms laws,” Grassley said. (Read more from “Biden Blow: WH Concedes Defeat on Controversial ATF Pick” HERE)

Joe Biden: ‘A Range of Programs’ Are Needed for Americans to Not ‘Pull the Trigger’ (VIDEO)

By Breitbart. President Joe Biden delivered remarks Wednesday on the administration’s strategy to prevent gun crimes across the country when he said there is “a range of programs” he believes are needed to keep Americans from pulling the trigger.

A reporter asked Biden what he feels would be the “most effective thing that government can do to change the mindset of those who feel compelled to pull the triggers” of guns.

Biden said in response to the question that one could hope to change the mindset of people by “being engaged in a whole range of programs.”

He continued to say that involves “everything from mental health programs” to start engaging with people earlier on and “letting them know there’s other options.”

We need to be “making sure that when a child is young, they have access to real education, they get started off on the right foot,” Biden continued.

Biden Touts New Crime Prevention Strategy Focused on Gun Control

By Fox News. President Biden in remarks Wednesday said his crime prevention strategy would focus on strengthening background checks, banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and boosting community policing.

Biden met with state and local leaders and law enforcement officials ahead of his remarks to talk crime prevention strategy, amid a surge in violence in cities across the U.S.

Both Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland, who spoke before him, pointed to a historic rise in crime in the summertime, and said that rise “may be more pronounced” as the nation comes out of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The White House has insisted curbing gun violence is key to tamping down a “staggering” surge of crime across the U.S.

“Talk to most responsible gun owners they’ll tell you there’s no possible justification for having 100 rounds in a magazine,” Biden said. (Read more from “Biden Touts New Crime Prevention Strategy Focused on Gun Control” HERE)

State Hit With Lawsuit for Withholding Gun Rights for People Under 21

A lawsuit has been filed in federal court against the state of Minnesota for withholding Second Amendment rights for those individuals under 21.

The action, Worth v. Harrington, was brought by the Second Amendment Foundation on behalf of a number of plaintiffs including the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus, Firearms Policy Coalition and three private citizens in the affected age group.

Defendants are John Harrington, commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, plus three county sheriffs, Mille Lac County Sheriff Don Lorge, Douglas County Sheriff Troy Wolbersen and Washington County Sheriff Dan Starry, in their individual and official capacities. . .

“We recognize the rights of law-abiding young adults to vote, join the military, sign contracts, start businesses, get married and do other things,” said SAF Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb, “but when it comes to exercising one of the most basic fundamental rights protected by the Constitution, suddenly we treat them like children. You shouldn’t be able to have it both ways.”

The complaint charges, “The state of Minnesota prohibits a certain class of law-abiding, responsible citizens – namely, adults who have reached the age of 18 but are not yet 21 – from fully exercising the right to keep and bear arms. At 18 years of age, law-abiding citizens in this country are considered adults for almost all purposes and certainly for the purposes of the exercise of fundamental constitutional rights. Yet the state bans such persons from carrying a handgun outside their home or automobile, even though the state allows all other law-abiding adults to obtain a permit to carry firearms in public.” (Read more from “State Hit With Lawsuit for Withholding Gun Rights for People Under 21” HERE)
