Senate Strikes Gun Control Agreement

A bipartisan group of senators announced a deal on gun control legislation Sunday in the wake of recent mass shootings — though the compromise excludes President Joe Biden’s “assault weapons” ban and a raised minimum age for rifle purchases. . .

A press released from the bipartisan group outlines the contours of the proposed legislation (original emphasis) :

Families are scared, and it is our duty to come together and get something done that will help restore their sense of safety and security in their communities. Our plan increases needed mental health resources, improves school safety and support for students, and helps ensure dangerous criminals and those who are adjudicated as mentally ill can’t purchase weapons. Most importantly, our plan saves lives while also protecting the constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans. We look forward to earning broad, bipartisan support and passing our commonsense proposal into law.”The proposal includes:Support for State Crisis

Drag Queen Story Hour Director Pushes Gun Control to ‘Protect Children’: ‘Drag Queens Aren’t Going Into Schools to Shoot Kids’

Drag Queen Story Hour executive director Jonathan Hamilt said that gun control is needed to protect kids.

“You know, 19 students just got shot in Texas, and Texas legislation wants to ban minors from going to drag shows. It makes zero sense. It’s a sad, sorry excuse… [for] the lack of gun control, and that’s the real issue,” Hamilt said, according to the Independent.

A school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, last month left 19 children and two teachers dead.

“Drag queens aren’t going into schools to shoot kids… when did we decide that it’s appropriate to teach kids how to hide under desks and not to talk about LGBT people and histories?” Hamilt said. “If people really wanted to protect children, it wouldn’t be banning LGBTQ education, it would be banning guns.” (Read more from “Drag Queen Story Hour Director Pushes Gun Control to ‘Protect Children’: ‘Drag Queens Aren’t Going Into Schools to Shoot Kids'” HERE)

Here’s the Fatal Flaw in Matthew McConaughey’s ‘Common Sense’ Gun Plan

Actor Matthew McConaughey visited Washington, D.C., this week to push for what he termed “reasonable, practical, tactical regulations” on gun rights, such as background checks, red-flag laws, and higher age limits.

“We’ve got a chance right now to reach for and to grasp a higher ground above our political affiliations,” he said, and “a chance to make a choice that does more than protect your party, a chance to make a choice that protects our country now and for the next generation.”

Corporate media and other activists praised his call for what they described as “common sense” restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms. But even if people think the solution to the moral rot plaguing the country is to restrict gun rights, there is one very big reason why this plan is not “common sense” at all and why Republicans in Congress would not be able to support it.

Many Americans have a principled objection to restricting gun rights because they are the guard against tyranny that preserves American freedoms. But even for those who don’t hold principled objections to gun-right restrictions, to voluntarily hand over the right and the security it provides American families would require a profound trust in their government that has been obliterated in recent years through widespread corruption. Poll: Public Support for ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban Hits All-Time Low

New polling shows that support for an “assault weapons” ban in the United States has hit an all-time low despite calls from Democrats to implement a ban following a deadly mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.

In a Quinnipiac University poll, conducted last week and published on Tuesday, 50 percent of registered voters support a nationwide ban on semi-automatic long guns compared to 45% who oppose which represents the lowest level of support since February 2013 when Quinnipiac began asking that question.

The highest level of support for the ban was 67% in February 2018, days after the Parkland school shooting that left 17 people dead.

“Nearly a decade after the school shooting at Sandy Hook and in the midst of a raging partisan and emotional debate, the assault weapon maintains a foothold, as calls for outlawing ownership hit their lowest level,” Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy said. Democrat-Led House Passes Gun Controls That WOULDN’T Have Prevented Uvalde

On Wednesday, the Democrat-led House of Representatives passed a gun control package that contains six gun controls that would not have prevented the May 24, 2022, Uvalde shooting.

On May 31, 2022, Breitbart News noted that the controls were part of the Democrats’ Protecting Our Kids Act.

The controls were:

Those six gun controls were background checks for “ghost guns,” gun storage requirements for homes with minors present, additional penalties for gun trafficking and straw purchases, a bump stock ban, a “high capacity” magazine ban (with grandfathering clause), and a requirement that existing bump stocks be registered under the auspices of the National Firearms Act.

On June 8, 2022, the New York Times reported the Protecting Our Kids Act began by being passed via a series of votes. The votes for the gun controls were largely along party lines, with a handful of Republicans, give or take, joining Democrats in support on each vote. WATCH: Are We Just Going to Ignore Biden’s Biggest Whopper in His Shoddy Anti-Gun Address Last Night?; Biden: Second Amendment Is ‘Not Absolute’

By Townhall. . .[The firearm] industry is shielded from nonsensical lawsuits from liberal lawyers who think they can shred the Second Amendment by suing the gun manufacturers out of existence. If they had their way, every gun maker would be on trial right now. People would sue them for homicides and other gun-related events for which these companies bear no responsibility. On faulty safety defects, that’s a different story and something worthy of a lawsuit. For homicides, no—Remington didn’t sell the weapon to the criminal, and it was never meant to be used in a crime. The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act which was passed in 2005 under George W. Bush is essential to protecting our Second Amendment.

Yet, Joe Applesauce for brains says the gun industry is “the only industry in this country that has that kind of immunity.”

That’s wrong, Joe. You lied. I know the lights are getting dimmer by the day because your brain function is slightly higher than a yam, but I’m pretty sure the pharmaceutical companies enjoy a massive legal shield from the COVID vaccine. Oh wait—they do (via CNBC):

If you experience severe side effects after getting a Covid vaccine, lawyers tell CNBC there is basically no one to blame in a U.S. court of law.

The federal government has granted companies like Pfizer and Moderna immunity from liability if something unintentionally goes wrong with their vaccines.

Biden Says Second Amendment Is ‘Not Absolute’ in Call to Reinstate Assault Weapons Ban

By Fox News. President Biden said the Second Amendment is “not absolute” in a speech Thursday following a wave of mass shootings across the nation, pleading with to Congress to pass what he called “commonsense” gun control legislation, including reinstating an assault weapons ban, requiring background checks, and limiting magazine capacity.

The president, speaking from the Cross Hall of the White House, told Americans that the issue of restricting access to guns “is one of conscience and common sense.” . . .

“I respect the culture, the tradition, the concerns of lawful gun owners,” Biden continued. “At the same time, the Second Amendment, like all other rights, is not absolute.”

Biden added: “This isn’t about taking away anyone’s rights. It’s about protecting children. It’s about protecting families. It’s about protecting whole communities. It’s about protecting our freedoms to go to school, to a grocery store, to a church without being shot and killed.” (Read more from “Biden Says Second Amendment Is ‘Not Absolute’ in Call to Reinstate Assault Weapons Ban” HERE)

WATCH: Media Now Dishonestly Classifying Gang Violence as ‘Mass Shootings’

After a bloody weekend of gang violence in Philadelphia and other Democratic cities around the country, leftist media activists are using the carnage as a way to push for new gun control legislation in Washington D.C.

As a way to bolster their narrative, media figures are classifying typical street violence as mass shootings, implying they happened in a targeted fashion at a school or place of worship.

So what exactly is a “mass shooting?” As the University of Pennsylvania and others point out, the definition is arbitrary.

In the United States, there are several different, but common, definitions of mass shootings. The Congressional Research Service defines mass shootings, as multiple, firearm, homicide incidents, involving 4 or more victims at one or more locations close to one another. The FBI definition is essentially the same. Often there is a distinction made between private and public mass shootings (e.g., a school, place of worship, or a business establishment). Mass shootings undertaken by foreign terrorists are not included, no matter how many people die or where the shooting occurs.

500 Percent Spike in Biden Administration Shutting Down Gun Retailers Over Typos

President Joe Biden is overzealously targeting firearm retailers to drive them out of business. Federal firearm license revocations for retailers have increased 500 from previous years. That’s got gun control groups excited, but it is casting a pall over the cooperative relationship firearm retailers maintain with law enforcement.

President Biden never hid the fact that he intended to use the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to drive his gun control agenda. He campaigned on a platform of targeting the firearm industry instead of focusing on criminals.

“Our enemy is the gun manufacturers, not the NRA, the gun manufacturers,” President Biden said from the presidential campaign debate stage.

That hostility produced a platform that turned the ATF from the bureau that regulates the firearm industry and enforces federal gun laws into the hammer and anvil by which the Biden administration is pummeling flat firearm retailers. Instead of compliance inspections by ATF Industry Operations Investigators to work to ensure firearm retailers remain within federal firearm regulations, those inspections are now driving firearm retailers out of business. Majority of Americans Believe Armed Educators Make Schools Safer

Most Americans believe that having armed teachers, properly trained, would make schools a safer place rather than the opposite.

A new poll conducted by The Trafalgar Group in partnership with Convention of States Action (COSA) shows that a majority of 2022 likely voters support having properly trained, armed teachers in schools. The poll was conducted in the aftermath of a mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, in which 21 victims, including 19 children, died.

Researchers surveyed 1,091 likely general election voters from May 25-29. The poll’s results have a margin of error of 2.9%. The results were provided exclusively to The Daily Wire.

“No shooting at a school is going to be stopped by gun control laws. They are going to be stopped by a variety of fairly simple on-site measures, including arming law-abiding citizens–in this case specifically teachers–and empowering them to protect our children, schools, and communities,” COSA President Mark Meckler said in a statement. “A majority of voters see this clearly, despite the relentless propaganda by people who want to confiscate the guns of law-abiding citizens.” (Read more from “Majority of Americans Believe Armed Educators Make Schools Safer” HERE)

WATCH: Beto DOES Want to Take Your AR-15s

Texas gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke (D) has leaned heavily into not just banning AR-15s and similar types of modern sporting rifles but also the confiscation of said firearms, even before the the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

During a campaign stop in San Angelo a few days before the shooting that left 19 children and two teachers dead, O’Rourke said he does not believe people who already own AR-15s should be able to keep them.

“Not only should no one be able to purchase an AR-15 or AK-47 because they’re designed to kill humans and that high impact, high velocity round will just tear up everything inside you, you’ll bleed out before we can get you back to life, but I don’t think that the people who have them right now in civilian use should be able to keep them,” O’Rourke said.
