Harry Reid Was Donald Trump Before Trump Was Uncool [+video]

Once upon a time, common sense reigned supreme, even in our political system. Sure, politicians would argue over subsidies and entitlements and other fiscal issues. But before our body politic was hijacked by a cartel of special interests who worship the pagan gods of political correctness and selfish parochial desires, both progressives and conservatives had a sense of justice and fairness as it relates to illegal immigration.

On January 25, 1993, two CIA agents were shot and killed outside of the Langley headquarters by a Pakistani illegal alien. A month later, a group of Islamic terrorists, that included several illegal aliens, executed the first bombing attack on the World Trade Center. Even though these events were not prototypical of the predominant illegal immigration problems we experienced from the southern border, none other than Harry Reid wasted no time in demanding comprehensive enforcement against all illegal immigration.

Reid introduced a bill on Aug. 4, 1993, the Immigration Stabilization Act of 1993 (S.1351), which would have ended birthright citizenship (an idea he called “insane”), clamped down on asylum seekers (very pertinent to World Trade Center bombing), expanded deportation of criminal aliens, increased penalties on re-entries and visa fraud, and excluded all legal immigrants from admission who “cannot demonstrably support themselves without public or private assistance.”

In a press release unveiling the bill, Reid noted the following:

“Our borders have overflowed with illegal immigrants placing tremendous burdens on our criminal justice system, schools and social programs. The Immigration and Naturalization Service needs the ability to step up enforcement. “Our federal wallet is stretched to the limit by illegal aliens getting welfare, food stamps, medical care and other benefits often without paying any taxes. “Safeguards like welfare and free medical care are in place to boost Americans in need of short-term assistance. These programs were not meant to entice freeloaders and scam artists from around the world.”

He added this Trumpesque line:

“Even worse, Americans have seen heinous crimes committed by individuals who are here illegally.”

Remember, this is at a time when the illegal alien population was just 3-4 million, and the fiscal and criminal cost incurred by this country was a fraction of what it is today.

On September 20, Reid delivered a riveting speech on the Senate floor covering every talking point Jeff Sessions, Steve King, and Donald Trump have ever mentioned – and then some. [Congressional Record, page s11999] His speech was prophetic and ahead of its time, warning of the ill effects of both illegal immigration and unbridled legal immigration on our criminal justice system, education, hospitals, welfare, and culture. Reid cited an observation from Bob Dole that “wherever he travels around the country, he is confronted with concern about the direction of the policy of immigration as it relates to the United States.” And Reid added, “these are not racist people who are raising this issue.”

Later in the year, Reid added an amendment to the 1993-94 crime bill, co-sponsored by such liberal luminaries as Sens. Bob Graham (D-FL) and Alan Simpson, (R-WY), that closed all sorts of loopholes dealing with criminal aliens and mandated more cooperation between local and federal law enforcement.

Fast-forward 22 years later, and the cost and danger to our society from illegal immigration are incalculable – far beyond Reid’s worst nightmares in 1993. We have experienced an endless slew of murders, rapes, and drunk driving incidents from an infinite flow of illegal immigrants, culminating with the two murders over the weekend. These murders are the direct result of not only the political disregard for immigration enforcement, but the official and relentless dismantling of interior enforcement and cooperation between state and local law enforcement.

Instead of Democrats and Republicans coming together to immediately address this national emergency, not a single GOP leader will fight against sanctuary cities and Obama’s abolishing of Secure Communities and the 287g program. In fact, John Boehner spent Independence Day overseas promoting more amnesty and the very policies that have encouraged this calamity in the first place. Harry Reid himself was forced to have an ideological sex change operation because of the special interests that have taken over his party.

Stand back and behold just how corrosive and destructive the cult of political correctness and special interests politics can be to the very existence of a nation and its sovereignty. It would probably take a PHD in math to calculate the cost of illegal immigration to this nation – both tangibly and intangibly – since Reid sounded a frenetic alarm 22 years ago. Yet, modern-day Republicans cannot even hold the ground held by the Democrat leader on immigration just one generation ago.

Instead of wetting their pants over Donald Trump, the short-sighted and capricious political class would be wise to study Harry Reid’s speech from 1993. A full transcript of his speech can be found here. (“Harry Reid Was Donald Trump Before Trump Was Uncool”, originally posted HERE)

UPDATE: Senator Harry Reid Beat Up by the Mob?

Harry Reid Black EyeBy Eddie Scarry. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, who recently announced plans to retire, rebutted conservative media speculation on Wednesday that his severe injuries are the result of a run-in with the mob.

On CNBC’s “Speakeasy,” host John Harwood asked Reid about theories put forth by conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh and Breitbart News that the injuries Reid sustained at the beginning of this year, including a blow to his right eye, are not, as he has said, the result of an accident involving elastic exercise equipment. . .

Doubts within conservative media over Reid’s version of events — that he was smacked in the face by an elastic exercise band that broke, causing him to fall down — date back to almost immediately after the New Year’s Day incident. John Hinderaker of the conservative Power Line blog speculated on Jan. 6 that Reid “looks like he has been in a fight, and not with an elastic band”. . .

In Late March, Limbaugh said, “I don’t believe for a minute that whatever happened to Harry Reid has anything to do with an exercise machine unless somebody repeatedly threw him into it.”

A day after Limbaugh’s commentary, the right-leaning Breitbart News website wrote a lengthy story analyzing the floor plan of Reid’s Nevada home. “A Breitbart News investigation of Reid’s home exercise accident has uncovered facts that appear to discredit Reid’s version of the home exercise accident for three very specific reasons,” the story said. Sen. Harry Reid “Sightless” in Right Eye as Result of Alleged Elastic Band Accident

Harry Reid EyeBy Seung Min Kim. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he’s now “sightless” in his right eye following a brutal exercise injury in January, in comments released Tuesday.
In an interview with Univision, Reid said he has undergone 11 hours of surgery to repair the eye, but he’s still unable to see out of it until “something comes along that’ll change it.” He’s having trouble with depth perception, particularly when he uses the stairs, Reid said.

“They’ve tried. I can’t see out of my right eye,” Reid told Univision’s Jorge Ramos in the interview, which will air Sunday. “And that’s OK, I can live with that.” (Read more from this story HERE)

Reid Loses Eyesight, Breaks Ribs, but Isn’t Suing the Maker of the Defective Exercise Band?!

By Jim Treacher. Why isn’t [Senator Harry Reid] warning people about the dangers of these exercise bands? Why isn’t he demanding answers?

The faulty exercise band also broke several of his ribs and gave him a concussion. Yet he’s shrugging the whole thing off. Oh well. Just one of those things.

Has Harry Reid ever been the forgiving type?

In completely unrelated news, Harry’s brother Larry got popped for DUI in Nevada a month later. At noon.

Rush Limbaugh Says He Might Know Who Beat Up “Dingy Harry”

larry-beat-harryBy Rush Limbaugh. kay, so I’m the guy responsible for the story that Dingy Harry got beat up by the mob in his bathroom. Now, I did offer here that I don’t think the nature of his injuries was such that this wasn’t a run-in with an exercise machine or the elastic band, whatever the story was. I did raise the specter that it did appear to me that Dingy Harry got beat up. I don’t know by who, although I might now. Bottom line is, I might now know who did it. And I wasn’t even gonna bring this up. . .

So after the program one day a couple of weeks ago I got on the phone with John Hinderaker and this caller from Las Vegas who claimed to know what happened to Dingy Harry Reid. Hinderaker wrote the story up and published it on Power Line. I don’t know what the date was because I didn’t print. But it’s just a couple, three weeks ago. And here’s the upshot of it. . .

Elliott, the caller, who wanted to speak to Hinderaker and me, “Elliott spent a portion of last New Year’s Eve at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in Henderson, Nevada,” which, for all intents and purposes, is Vegas. “His AA group has meetings every hour on New Year’s Eve, along with a pot luck supper. There were approximately 20 people present at the meeting during the events,” that you will next hear about.

“Some time between 10:00 and 11:30 p.m., a man entered the meeting. His appearance was striking: there was blood on his clothing, beginning around his midsection. His left hand was swollen. He appeared to be somewhat intoxicated and was visibly agitated,” and he wanted to share, at this AA meeting.

“He introduced himself as ‘Larry.’ In a group discussion that was heard by a number of people, Larry said that he had just had a fight with a family member. Larry said he had been at a family get-together, and he didn’t remember much about the fight because he had blacked out. When he came to, he was rolling on the ground, fighting with a family member, and his clothes were bloody,” and in fact that’s how he showed up at the AA meeting. “Now, he said, he was frightened that the Secret Service would come after him.” (Read more from this story HERE)

Las Vegas Man Admits Concocting Story About Harry Reid’s Eye

By Nick Gass. No, Harry Reid was not beaten up by his brother, says the man who concocted the false rumor to explain the Senate minority leader’s injuries after an exercise accident several months ago.

Larry Pfeifer told the Las Vegas Sun that he made up the story after being appalled that conservative blogger John Hinderaker published a rumor that Reid’s injuries occurred as a result of a Mafia enforcer roughing him up.

“It was just so outrageous,” Pfeifer told the Sun. “The fact that someone can say something completely false that can destroy somebody’s life, it’s just wrong. Where’s the moral compass?”

Pfeifer said he fabricated the story that Reid’s brother Larry showed up drunk to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting on New Year’s Eve and claimed he had beaten up a relative.

Pfeifer, whom the Sun describes as a former consultant in the nightclub and entertainment industry, said he thought the episode “would be over in a day and a half.” (Read more from this story HERE)

How the Nuclear Option Changed the Judiciary

Harry Reid Rejects CutsFor Sen. Harry Reid, going “nuclear” set the groundwork for his last great act of the 113th Congress.

A little more than a year after Senate Democrats deployed the “nuclear option” to effectively change the Senate rules on nominations with a simple majority, Democrats up and down Pennsylvania Avenue generally seem happy with the changes, even as the Senate shifts to Republican control for 2015.

White House Counsel Neil Eggleston on Wednesday highlighted the 134 judges confirmed in the 113th Congress alone, saying that was 44 percent of the total confirmed during President Barack Obama’s tenure. That number included 132 federal district and circuit judges, according to Senate Democrats.

Those sorts of numbers should give Reid, a Nevada Democrat, reason to be pleased as his smaller caucus takes minority status, thank to the slew of lifetime confirmations to the federal bench that will outlast Obama’s presidency — by decades.

“Throughout the 113th Congress, Senate Democrats have focused on confirming well-qualified judicial nominees to relieve the judge shortage plaguing our nation’s justice system,” Reid said in a statement touting the statistics. “Despite unprecedented obstruction, today’s statistics show that Senate Democrats were able to overcome political gridlock and confirm the highest number of district and circuit court judges in a single Congress in over thirty years.”

Democrats Working Overtime to Criminalize Dissent

Photo Credit: Drew Angerer / Getty Dissent is the highest form of patriotism. Dissent is the lowest form of crime. If you are a drone in the hive of the Left, it is possible — easy, in fact — to believe both of those things at the same time.

Free speech just won an important victory in a federal courtroom, though it is shameful that the case ever even had to go to court. Ohio had enacted a plainly unconstitutional law that empowered a government panel to determine whether criticisms offered in political advertisements were sufficiently true to be permitted in the public discourse. Those who have followed the IRS scandal, the Travis County, Texas, prosecutorial scandals, or Harry Reid’s recent effort to repeal the First Amendment will not be surprised that this measure was used as a political weapon against a conservative group, in this case the anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony List. SBA List criticized a Democratic House member for having voted for the so-called Affordable Care Act (ACA), noting that the law will implicate American taxpayers in the funding of abortions, an entanglement previously minimized through measures such as the Hyde Amendment. Despite the fact that the ACA regime would, among other things, permit federal subsidies for abortion-funding insurance plans, the Ohio Inquisition ruled the ad impermissible, and banned it.

So much for free speech.

Fortunately, an Obama appointee whose ability to read the letter of the law had not been utterly drummed out of him ruled that the Ohio Inquisition obviously violated longstanding free-speech protections, the First Amendment notable among them. Last week, a similar case in Minnesota came to a similar conclusion.

Inside Harry Reid’s Senate ‘Plantation’

Photo Credit: T.J. Kirkpatrick / GettySenate Majority Leader Harry Reid and other Democrats have demanded an apology from Rep. Bill Cassidy after he accused Sen. Reid of running the Senate “like a plantation,” but there is at least some truth to the accusation.

Since April of last year, Sen. Reid has allowed a vote on just 58 amendments — 30 from the GOP — according to Senate records. The Senate majority leader before him, Republican Bill Frist, by comparison, held votes on 231 amendments over a comparable time period (April, 2005 through Sept. 9, 2006), and the Senate majority leader before that, Democrat Tom Daschle, held 174 votes (April, 2001 through Sept. 9, 2002).

“Harry Reid has literally shut down the amendment process,” Brian Phillips, a spokesman for Republican Sen. Mike Lee told The Daily Caller. “Reid allows at most maybe 2 or 3 amendments, mostly no amendments.”

As majority leader, Sen. Reid has the power to decide which bills come to the floor, and when, and he also decides which amendments to those bills are debated and voted on. The minority party often relies on the amendment process to make their voice heard and force the majority to take a position on certain points.

We Might See HUGE Taxes Just For Using The Internet, Thanks To Harry Reid

State governments always seem to find creative ways to tax Americans, so why haven’t they taxed us for using the Internet yet? It’s because we’re protected by the Internet Tax Freedom Act — but if the Senate doesn’t pass a permanent extension of the act by Nov. 1, we might see $15-$20 additions to our phone bills for Internet usage.

“It’s really unfortunate because the House passed it on voice vote to make it permanent, and now the Senate is messing it up,” president of the Taxpayers Protection Alliance David Williams told The Daily Caller in an interview. “I mean Harry Reid in particular is messing this up.”

On July 15, the House passed the Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act (PITFA) via voice vote — in true bipartisan fashion — which would allow permanent freedom from Internet taxes and eliminate the need for extensions. The Senate still has to pass the bill. On July 31, right before the August recess, Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz tried to bring the bill to the floor, but was shut down by Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid.

You’ll Have to Pinch Yourself After Hearing What Harry Reid Has to Say About America and Israel

Senator Harry Reid took to the Senate floor on Monday to call on Congress to approve aid to Israel. In so doing, he took a step away from fellow Democrats and liberals, who continue to portray the State of Israel as the aggressor.

via Washington Free Beacon:

“Mr. President, our great country has many friends in the world…but certainly our deepest attachment is what we have with Israel…

Harry Reid’s Hypocrisy on ‘Equal Pay Day’: All Senate Democrat Leaders Top Aides are Men

Photo Credit: AP / Cliff Owen

Photo Credit: AP / Cliff Owen

Democrats are trying to get the female vote in November with a public relations campaign about “equal pay for equal work,” yet they are not practicing what they preach. The White House and Senate Democratic leaders employ fewer women as top aides, so they earn less.

To play off “Equal Pay Day” on Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has scheduled a show vote on the Paycheck Fairness Act, which shifts the burden to employers to prove pay discrepancies are not related to gender. Democratic Conference Vice Chairman Chuck Schumer tweeted Monday: “Without action to address the gender pay gap, women won’t reach pay equity until 2058.”

But Mr. Schumer, Mr. Reid and the others in the Senate Democratic leadership — Majority Whip Dick Durbin and Conference Secretary Patty Murray — are hypocritical in saying they want women to have equal seniority and pay.

Not one of them has a female chief of staff or communications director, the person spearheading this week’s publicity stunts. Mr. Reid’s spokesman, Adam Jentleson, did not respond to a request for comment.

Ms. Murray is the only woman on either side in leadership, but she’s also in the lowest-ranking position. The Washington Democrat tweeted Monday: “50+ yrs since JFK signed #EqualPay Act women still earn just 77¢ to every $1 men make.” Yet her top adviser and the communicator for this message are men.

Boom: Harry Reid Tried To Silence Ted Cruz And It Completely Backfired In His Face

A Senate debate between pro-amnesty Democrats and Republicans who favor a secure border continued Thursday when Majority Leader Harry Reid trashed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s latest proposal.

The Texas Republican is pushing a bill that would end the de facto amnesty Barack Obama extended in 2012 to illegals who arrived in the U.S. as minors.

While Obama’s unilateral move resulted in deferred action in the case of illegals under a certain age who crossed the border as a child and maintained certain requirements while living in the U.S., Cruz contended that this policy has attracted the tens of thousands of Central American minors currently flooding the Mexican border.

In his response, Reid suggested that the executive order automatically legitimized these illegals, making them impervious to deportation efforts.

Harry Reid on Hobby Lobby Decision: ‘We’re Going to Do Something’ (+video)

Photo Credit: UPI / Kevin DietschOn Monday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., laid out the Senate’s legislative agenda for the “coming weeks.” Listed among his top priorities was legislation to “correct” the Hobby Lobby decision.

Since the Supreme Court’s ruling in June, congressional Democrats have vowed to protect employer-sponsored insurance coverage of contraception and abortion-inducing drugs mandated by the Department of Health and Human Services.

“We’re going to do something about the Hobby Lobby legislation we need to correct,” said Reid.

Reid’s comments echo similar sentiments from top Democrat leaders. Sens. Patty Murray, D-Wash., and Dick Durbin, D-Ill., are currently leading a legislative push against the court’s decision.
