Fmr Homeland Security Sec Doubts Trump’s Mass Deportation Plan, Teases Ban On Executive Orders

Former Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson cast doubt Sunday on NBC News about President-elect Donald Trump’s mass deportation plans, after suggesting that presidential executive orders should be banned.

During Trump’s campaign, the former president vowed to shut down the U.S. southern border and conduct a large-scale deportation operation. On “Meet the Press,” NBC host Kristen Welker questioned Johnson about Trump’s plan, noting how he planned to continue rolling out his goals for the border after signing executive orders.

“So, first of all, somebody should pass a law banning executive orders on day one. Because the reality is executive orders drafted by transition teams without the input of the affected agency before the cabinet secretaries are even confirmed are not great ideas,” Johnson said.

Johnson went on to call out the travel ban as an example of an executive order he disagreed with and was involved in during the Obama administration, noting that Guantanamo Bay is still open. The former secretary also said Trump should start with the deportation of criminals, national security threats and recent border crossers, highlighting the “reality of enforcement” even for Trump. Mayorkas Personally Denied RFK Jr.’s Secret Service Protection

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas personally declined a request from presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for Secret Service protection last July.

The newly revealed records were obtained by Judicial Watch, which sued the Department of Homeland Secretary in September over an unanswered Freedom of Information Act request. On July 21, 2023, Mayorkas sent the following two-sentence letter to Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle:

On May 26, 2023, Candidate for President Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. submitted a request to the Department of Homeland Security for United States Secret Service protection. In accordance with the authority set forth in Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056(a)(7), and in consultation with the Candidate Protection Advisory Committee, I decline to identify Candidate Kennedy for United States Secret Service protection at this time.

Presidential candidates are eligible for Secret Service protection at the discretion of the homeland security secretary and a committee of congressional leaders. President Joe Biden also has authority to approve requests.

In his July 21 rejection letter, Mayorkas copied members of the Candidate Protection Advisory Committee: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Senate Sergeant at Arms Karen Gibson. Mayorkas Impeachment Articles Headed for Floor Vote After Rules Committee Votes to Advance

The House Rules Committee approved both articles of impeachment Republican lawmakers filed against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, teeing up a historic House floor vote that could happen as soon as Tuesday.

The passage through the committee marked the final hurdle that the House GOP had to clear to reach a floor vote following a year of hearings that targeted Mayorkas’s handling of the border crisis.

“I take no pleasure in our actions today, but Secretary Mayorkas’s actions — both in his intentional refusal to enforce all laws and abandoning the confidence of Americans — require us to act,” said House Rules Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK). “Secretary Mayorkas has refused to uphold his oath of office. If he will not do so — his duty — then unfortunately the House must do its constitutional duty.”

The 12-member panel voted along party lines 8-4 on H.R. 863 after four hours of debate. The articles charge Mayorkas with willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law and a breach of the public trust.

“[Mayorkas] knows what the laws are, and he has created systems to subvert those laws,” House Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) testified before the rules panel Monday afternoon, referencing the Biden administration’s expanded parole programs for immigrants. Biden Official Lied Under Oath About Disinfo Board, Lawmakers Say

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has been accused of misleading top Republican senators about the purposes of the controversial Disinformation Governance Board.

Republican Sens. Chuck Grassley and Josh Hawley argue the board was designed with more power than the top Biden official admitted during testimony.

Mayorkas repeatedly downplayed the power and role of the group during congressional testimony, telling the Senate Homeland Security Committee last month it was “established with the explicit goal of ensuring that the protection of free speech, privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties is incorporated into all of the department’s disinformation work.” He contended that “we’re not the Truth Police” and said the board “does not have any operational authority or capability.”

The board was at least temporarily put on hold following the controversy surrounding Director Nina Jankowicz, who later resigned. She has a history of either labeling claims as disinformation that were later found to have credibility or giving credence to assertions that were later discredited. She immediately cast doubt on the Hunter Biden laptop story, touted British ex-spy Christopher Steele as a disinformation expert, downplayed Iranian election meddling aimed at hurting Trump in the 2020 election, critiqued the media’s promotion of the Wuhan lab leak hypothesis, pushed debunked claims of Trump-Russia collusion, and more. Homeland Security Official Arrested in Sting Involving Craigslist Ad

Homeland Security logo SCA Homeland Security employee has been arrested in connection with a sting that alleges he used a Craigslist ad in an effort to get a mother and an underage daughter to have sex with him.

George Hristovski, 54, of Elverta, was booked into Sacramento County Jail on Monday after his arrest by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. His LinkedIn posting identifies him as an inspector for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

A federal court filing requesting an arrest warrant for Hristovski said that Placer County Sheriff’s Department detectives noticed an ad on Craigslist on July 14 in the “Casual Encounters” section of the Sacramento area part of the website.

Federal Officer Under Scrutiny for Firing Gun During L.A. Protest

Photo Credit: Donkey HoteyFour people have been arrested and a Homeland Security officer is under investigation for firing his weapon during a weekend scuffle between pro-Israel demonstrators and Palestinian supporters outside the Federal Building in Los Angeles.

The altercation Sunday evening grew out of a shouting match between the occupants of two vehicles that escalated when several people from one vehicle were assaulted by suspects in the other, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office said.

An officer of the Federal Protective Service, an agency of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, who witnessed the assault intervened and fired his weapon, but no one was hit by gunfire or otherwise injured, Sheriff’s Sergeant Carmen Arballo said.

She said four suspects were arrested. According to sheriff’s officials, the four were booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after some of those involved in the melee were seen brandishing wooden poles, City News Service reported.

U.S. Utility’s Control System Was Hacked, Says Homeland Security

Photo Credit: Donkey HoteyA sophisticated hacking group recently attacked a U.S. public utility and compromised its control system network, but there was no evidence that the utility’s operations were affected, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

DHS did not identify the utility in a report that was issued this week by the agency’s Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team, or ICS-CERT.

“While unauthorized access was identified, ICS-CERT was able to work with the affected entity to put in place mitigation strategies and ensure the security of their control systems before there was any impact to operations,” a DHS official told Reuters on Tuesday.

Such cyber attacks are rarely disclosed by ICS-CERT, which typically keeps details about its investigations secret to encourage businesses to share information with the government. Companies are often reluctant to go public about attacks to avoid potentially negative publicity.

ICS-CERT said in the report posted on its website that investigators had determined the utility had likely been the victim of previous intrusions. It did not elaborate.

Homeland Security: Immigrant Family Members Of U.S. Military Members Will No Longer Be Deported

Photo Credit: opposingviews.comMillions of members of the U.S military were born abroad. Many of these people have undocumented family members living in the United States.

For years, U.S. military service member advocates have argued that the nation’s current deportation policy often places undue stress on these members. The idea of deporting the loved ones of someone serving their country just doesn’t quite seem right.

Today, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security made an announcement that should alleviate some of these stresses. Undocumented family members of U.S. military members will no longer be deported. Instead, they will be given a “parole in place” permit that will allow them to apply for permanent legal status while remaining in the U.S.

Controversial Homeland Security Adviser Defends Use of Muslim Brotherhood-Associated Icon on his Twitter

An adviser to the Department of Homeland Security — who was recently promoted — is defending his use of the controversial “R4BIA” four-finger salute symbol associated with the Muslim Brotherhood as decor on his Twitter profile, a choice that elicited criticism on Sunday on the social media site and from one Israeli blog.

Mohamed Elibiary, one of 28 members of the Homeland Security Advisory Council, insists the symbol is “bigger than” the Muslim Brotherhood and that to him it means “Freedom4All.” In his Twitter profile, Elibiary describes himself as not only associated with Homeland Security but also as a “proud American” who “hearts” Egypt.

The yellow symbol gained notoriety after Egyptian security forces raided two Muslim Brotherhood sit-ins in August, killing hundreds. The larger Cairo sit-in supporting ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi took place at Rabaa al-Adawiya Square. Rabaa in Arabic means fourth, hence four fingers and the number “4” planted between the English letters representing the symbol brandished as a tribute to those killed.

One website reportedly set up by Turkish Muslim activists describes the essence of the R4BIA icon as symbolizing more than the Muslim Brotherhood. It’s described as a “symbol of freedom” but also promotes the “return of Muslims to world stage.” It supports “justice for everyone against rotten Western values,” “a pure martyrdom,” “unification of Islamic World,” “the end of capitalists,” and “the end of Zionists.”

A retired Marine, testifying before his local city council this week, called out the federal government for the militarization of domestic law enforcement.

In the course of his testimony he revealed that Homeland Security is equipping its agents with exactly the same equipment he used in Iraq, and for no other reason than it is afraid of its own people. Why?

He ended his testimony by asking, “Is everybody blind?” Apparently not, given the response.
