Border Patrol: No One Crosses Rio Grande Without Paying Cartel

Del Rio Sector Assistant Chief Patrol Agent Brady Waikel told Breitbart News that “nothing crosses the river in this area without a payment being made” to Mexican cartels. His comments came during a recent roundtable discussion between Del Rio Sector leadership and Breitbart.

“When you’re talking about people coming across and being rescued and when you’re talking about deaths [while] crossing the border,” Chief Waikel told Breitbart News, “those transnational organizations — that’s the cause of all of that.”

Waikel and Del Rio Sector Director of Operations Randy Clark revealed that agents in their sector conduct more than half of all water rescues across all Border Patrol sectors. Agents in the Del Rio Sector carried out at least 470 rescues of migrants in life-threatening distress. During FY 2019, which ended on September 30, Border Patrol agents rescued at least 4,900 migrants.

“Nothing crosses the river in this without a payment being made — without being directed by the cartels, by the smugglers,” the chief explained. “All of those organizations are what are pushing people across. They’re the ones directing them ‘cross here, cross there.’”

“When we start talking about people that are dying crossing the river — people being rescued — you’ve got to look at ‘why are they crossing where they are and when they’re crossing,’” he continued. (Read more from “Border Patrol: No One Crosses Rio Grande Without Paying Cartel” HERE)

Watch: Christian University Speaker Tells Students to Hide Illegal Aliens in Churches

A guest speaker at Andrews University, a Seventh-day Adventist school in Michigan, urged students to harbor illegal aliens in their churches because U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement does not usually raid churches, Campus Reform reported.

“People are being hurt right now across this country,” James Standish, the event’s speaker, said. “Many of them are our brothers and they’re our sisters. And we stand by with our churches empty when they could be sanctuary sanctuaries.” . . .

Standish was speaking at a semi-required “University Forum” event that is part of the co-curricular requirements for students at the school. While the specific event was not mandatory, it was part of a series of events that count towards fulfilling the requirement. . .

During the speech, Standish claimed that a church entity asked him to research ICE policy after some of their members were deported, and in his research, he discovered that that “except in unusual circumstances, ICE will not raid a church.”

The policy he is referring to was a created in 2011 under the Obama administration — and still remains under the Trump administration — that classifies certain areas, such as schools and churches, as “sensitive locations.” In these locations, barring exigent circumstances, ICE will not conduct “arrests, interviews, searches, or surveillance.” (Read more from “Watch: Christian University Speaker Tells Students to Hide Illegal Aliens in Churches” HERE)

ICE Blasts New York Authorities for Releasing Illegal Alien Accused of Manslaughter

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents apprehended an illegal alien accused of manslaughter and other crimes after local police, refusing cooperation with federal immigration authorities, released him back into the public, the agency revealed Monday.

Feliciano Perez-Bautista, an Mexican national living illegally in the U.S., was arrested by the Yonkers Police Department (YPD) on July 8 for gang assault in the first degree, according to a press release from ICE. However, after Perez-Baustina’s victim succumbed to his injuries, he was additionally charged with manslaughter of the first degree.

ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations lodged a detainer request with the YPD on July 12 and lodged a request with the Westchester Department of Corrections on July 30. However, neither detainer was honored, and Perez-Bautista was ultimately released back into the community without the local officials notifying ICE. . .

A spokesperson for the agency blasted local law enforcement for refusing to honor their immigration detainer and allowing Perez-Bautista to be released, allowing him to potentially harm others.

“When law enforcement agencies decide to not honor ICE detainers and release violent criminals back onto the streets, they are putting their city at serious risk,” ICE New York Field Office Director Thomas Decker said in a statement released Monday. “We want nothing more than to cooperate and work together with local law enforcement authorities in order to protect our communities and keep this nation secure.” (Read more from “ICE Blasts New York Authorities for Releasing Illegal Alien Accused of Manslaughter” HERE)

WATCH: Pete Buttigieg Agrees When Leftist Pastor Says Illegal Aliens Are ‘Coming Back to Land We Stole’

Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg nodded in agreement with a leftist pastor who said Mexican illegal immigrants are “coming back to land we stole.”

The Rev. William Barber hosted Buttigieg at Greenleaf Christian Church in Goldsboro, North Carolina, where a Q&A session followed Sunday services, the Associated Press said. . .

“Let me ask you a couple quick rapid-fire [questions],” Barber began. “Do you think we need to also stop allowing forces to demonize ‘people who are trying to get their immigration status,’ and we start lifting up all the ways they benefit this country? The money in Social Security, the taxes they pay—” . . .

“And we need to talk about that,” Barber noted before saying, “We call people ‘illegal aliens’ and all these things that are not human and certainly not Christian. Why can’t we just own in America that some of the people that are trying to come from Mexico here are coming back to land we stole?”

With that, Buttigieg sat up in his seat, made an expression as if he was given a shot of truth, then nodded his head as the audience applauded. (Read more from “Pete Buttigieg Agrees When Leftist Pastor Says Illegal Aliens Are ‘Coming Back to Land We Stole'” HERE)

Sanctuary State Freed Illegal Alien Accused of Attempted Murder

An illegal alien in the sanctuary state of Colorado has been re-arrested for attempted murder less than a month after he was freed from prison.

Osmani Garces-Ortiz, a 37-year-old illegal alien from Cuba, was released by the sanctuary jurisdiction of Arapahoe County, Colorado, on October 28, despite the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency requesting he be held so they could take over custody.

Garces-Ortiz had originally been arrested for drug crimes and trespassing. Less than a month later, on November 21, the illegal alien was arrested in Arapahoe County for attempted murder — an incident that would have never occurred had he be turned over to ICE, federal officials said.

“As ICE has repeatedly made clear, when local jurisdictions refuse to support immigration enforcement, they betray their duty to protect public safety,” an ICE spokesperson told the Sentinel.

Garces-Ortiz is being held on a $202,000 bond and ICE has once again placed a detainer on him, requesting that should he be released at any time that he be turned over to their custody. (Read more from “Sanctuary State Freed Illegal Alien Accused of Attempted Murder” HERE)

ICE Arrests 90 Foreign Students at Fake University

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has arrested 90 additional foreign-born students in recent months in a sting operation at a fake Michigan university designed to draw in students who are trying to stay in the U.S. illegally, according to a new report.

The University of Farmington advertised a “dynamic business administration and STEM curriculum” program, but the students, mostly from India, “knew that they would not attend any actual classes, earn credits or make academic progress towards an actual degree,” according to a January indictment.

A total of about 250 students have been arrested since the school opened in January on immigration violations by U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Immigration lawyers said in March — after 161 students were arrested — that the students did not know it was a fake university at the time. . .

The U.S. “trapped vulnerable people who just wanted to maintain (legal immigration) status,” Rahul Reddy, a Texas attorney who represented some of the students who were arrested, told the Detroit Free Press on Wednesday.

Many of the arrested students have been deported, but some are contesting their removals. (Read more from “ICE Arrests 90 Foreign Students at Fake University” HERE)

Illegal Alien Deported After Killing Four Children in 2008 School Bus Crash Is Caught Again in the U.S.

An illegal immigrant from Guatemala was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials in Minneapolis more than ten years after she killed four children and was deported.

35-year-old Olga Franco del Cid caused a horrific school bus crash in 2008 that killed four children and injured 17 others. She ran a red light and hit the bus with her minivan, then crashed into a pickup truck. . .

She attempted to blame the crash on her boyfriend, lied to investigators about her identity and said she was from Puerto Rico. They determined that she was in fact an illegal immigrant from Guatemala.

She was convicted of 4 counts of criminal vehicular homicide, and 20 other charges in the crash. She was sentenced to more than twelve years in prison, but only served before being released and deported in 2016. Raid of U.S. ‘Stash House’ Finds Dozens of Illegal Aliens and ‘Several Weapons,’ Feds Say

Federal immigration authorities say that they discovered dozens of illegal immigrants and some weapons in an alleged “stash house” in Laredo, Texas.

According to a news release from Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the discovery was the result of joint efforts between the U.S. Border Patrol, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the Webb County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO).

Over the weekend, WCSO provided the feds with information about a possible stash house. That was followed up with joint surveillance conducted by Border Patrol, HSI, and WCSO, along with a “knock and talk” at the address.

In total, authorities found 43 illegal aliens from the countries of Guatemala, Ecuador, Mexico, and Honduras along with “several weapons,” CBP says. The 43 were found to be in good health before being arrested, and the case was then turned over to HSI.

Stash houses are where traffickers hide and hold smuggled people and drugs. In the context of America’s ongoing immigration crisis, they’ve been known for terrible conditions and ransom situations.

“Quite often what will happen is somebody may have a cellphone and because the conditions are so bad they will call 911, and that’s how we are able to uncover some of these ‘stash houses,’” Border Patrol Deputy Chief Raul Ortiz told CBS during a June 2018 ride-along.

Earlier this year, authorities in Houston arrested five men in connection with a stash house where 18 migrants were held for ransom. “Our investigation determined that women were held captive and sexually assaulted for 25 days,” Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said at the time of the arrests. Illegal Alien with Prior Criminal History Allegedly Kills Motorist While Illegally Driving Forklift

On November 17, Ulises Mondragon Umanzor, 30, an illegal alien from El Salvador, was arrested for allegedly running a stop sign while driving a forklift and fatally striking James Zakos, a 70-year-old Floridian, whose car had the right of way. Mondragon Umanzor reportedly failed to stop and return to the scene of the accident.

There are two important points in this case that should spawn a robust public policy debate on immigration enforcement: Mondragon Umanzor did not have either a valid driver’s license or a license to operate heavy machinery, and he had a history of trouble with the law on the roads. Had our laws been enforced, he shouldn’t have been able to get a job here, and he should have been deported on numerous occasions. He had been caught at least three times since 2011 driving without a license.

Earlier this year, Florida passed a law barring any potential “sanctuary” jurisdictions from ignoring ICE detainers on criminal aliens who pass through local jails. However, even jurisdictions that don’t thwart ICE could still do a lot more to prevent crime by illegal aliens if they would actively notify ICE upon the first infraction of an illegal alien they contact. As demonstrated by this case, illegal aliens are often caught for relatively minor driving infractions. Yet they are able to cycle in and out of the local court system without ever being turned over to ICE. That appears to be what happened in this case. Had the system been working the way it should, Zakos would still be alive.

Here is Mondragon Umanzor’s criminal history just from Palm Beach County:

On Sept. 12, 2011, Mondragon Umanzor was arrested in Palm Beach County for driving without a license and for driving with an open container of alcohol.

Just a few months later, in February 2012, he was caught again driving without a license.

On Nov. 4, 2012, he was arrested for possession of cocaine.

In Sept. 2016, he was caught driving without a license.

In May 2018, he was caught driving around a barricade, of course without a license. He accrued over $1,000 in outstanding debt to the court.

Why was someone like this never deported? In 2012, he was even pre-emptively suspended from having a license by the court, despite never having had one, all without anybody ever giving a thought to deporting him. While these seem like minor charges for which we wouldn’t lock up Americans too long, they can portend serious public danger and are all habitual crimes. As such, there’s no reason we should be taking chances with people who should be removed from the country anyway at the first sign of trouble.

It should be standard procedure that any time a resident interacts with police or with a court, he is asked a simple question: “Of which country are you a citizen?” Then, local cops should be required to notify ICE about anyone who does not answer, “The United States.” That way, we can ensure that this is the last act of reckless driving committed by this individual in the U.S.

In fact, police are already required to find out citizenship, ironically, for the good of the alien, pursuant to the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations (VCCR). Florida, like every state requires police to ascertain the country of citizenship in order to notify consular officials that a national of their country has been detained. Why doesn’t every every arrest or detention by police therefore preclude any situation where a foreign national is released without the federal government knowing about it?

So much crime could be prevented by following this simple international protocol. If it’s good enough for the sake of the alien to discover his citizenship status upon any arrest, it should be good enough for the security of our communities.

In September, another illegal alien in Palm Beach County was arrested for numerous child sex charges. As I noted at the time, given this man’s three arrests for driving without a license, the abuse of these children could have been avoided.

In addition to proactively requiring documentation of citizenship for any traffic citation or arrest, Florida officials have a golden opportunity to stop illegal alien crime by implementing mandatory E-Verify, a top agenda item pushed by Gov. Ron DeSantis in the upcoming legislative session. The other obvious question in the case of Mondragon Umanzor is how in the world was he working as a forklift driver when he had no driver’s license or license to operate machinery? The Miami Herald reports that he worked for a subcontractor of Skansa USA, listed as “Cast One” on the police report. While there are unanswered questions about how any individual with this man’s background could have a job driving heavy machinery, this is another example of how E-Verify would ensure dangerous individuals are not able to obtain jobs in this country at all.

As Florida prepares to debate mandatory E-Verify and the effect of illegal aliens on the wages of Floridian workers, one thing that ought not to be overlooked is the system’s effect on demagnetizing Florida as a destination for dangerous criminals. It’s not just a labor issue; it’s a public safety issue. Agents Rescue Migrant from Drowning in Border River

Laredo Sector Border Patrol riverine agents rescued a migrant from possibly drowning in a creek near the Rio Grande. The migrant struggled to stay afloat after illegally entering the river to cross into the U.S.

A Laredo Sector Border Patrol patrolling the Chacon Creek area near the Rio Grande encountered a migrant who had difficulty staying afloat on the morning of November 20. The agent quickly called for assistance from a nearby marine unit boat crew, according to information obtained from Laredo Sector Border Patrol officials.

Laredo Sector Marine agents quickly responded and found the migrant having difficulty keeping his head above the swiftly moving current. The agents maneuvered their boat into position and pulled the man on board to keep him from drowning, officials stated.

Agents identified the migrant as a Mexican national. They said the man said he was attempting to return to Mexico when he had difficulty navigating the currents. Agents checked the man for medical distress and turned him over to land-based agents for processing. Officials said the Mexican national will be processed under U.S. Customs and Border Protection guidelines.

Later that day, agents assigned to the Highway 83 immigration checkpoint observed a blue tractor-trailer approaching for inspection. Agents questioned the driver and subsequently referred him to a secondary inspection station. As the driver moved forward, he failed to stop and drove approximately 100 yards beyond the checkpoint before stopping, officials reported. He jumped out of the tractor and fled on foot.
