Republicans Press CDC Over the Unethical, Unchecked ‘Wild West’ Fertility Industry

Three congressional Republicans want to know where the Centers for Disease Control stands on the “‘Wild West’ of assisted reproductive technology.”

Reps. Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma, Andrew Clyde of Georgia, and Matt Rosendale of Montana released a letter to CDC Director Mandy Cohen on Tuesday demanding answers about her agency’s knowledge and recommendations regarding the “destruction of precious life in the in vitro fertilization (IVF) industry.”

Citing the “government’s role in securing the natural right to life” noted in the Declaration of Independence, the Republicans worried that Big Fertility “has long operated under the radar of lawmakers in the United States.”

“While other Western countries prohibit clinics from practicing eugenics or carelessly destroying human life, the U.S. does not even require clinics to be transparent about their participation in these activities,” they wrote.

The CDC’s latest artificial reproductive technology (IVF) data suggests Americans undergo hundreds of thousands of IVF cycles each year. Since standard practice in American IVF requires harvesting and fertilizing multiple ova to increase chances of successful lab conception, hundreds of thousands of IVF cycles suggests millions of embryos are created and either destroyed or abandoned in freezers each year as well. 61-Year-Old Gives Birth to Own Grandchild for ‘Married’ Gay Son

A 61-year-old Nebraska grandmother has given birth to her homosexual son’s IVF baby.

Cecile Eledge, 61, served as a surrogate mother for her homosexual son and sperm donor Matthew Eledge, 32. Eledge is in a homosexual relationship with Elliot Dougherty, 29. Baby Uma Louise Dougherty-Eledge was born without surgical intervention on March 25, 2019. . .

According to BuzzFeed News, Dougherty and Eledge spent $40,000 on the In Vitro Fertilization procedure, a project that lasted two years before it resulted in Uma’s birth. Of the 24 eggs Yribe donated, eleven were “injected with Matthew’s sperm.” The result was seven embryos. After genetic testing, four of the embryos were killed. Of the remaining three, one was successfully implanted in Cecile Eledge and two were put into storage. . .

Conservative commentator Rod Dreher strongly criticized the whole affair, highlighting its disturbing aspects, in a column for American Conservative. . .

“The taboo against incest is ancient, and nearly universal,” he wrote. “These people violated it multiple times, using technology — and no sex was involved. They mixed the egg of Dougherty’s sister with his husband’s sperm. In custom — ‘custom,’ ha ha! — Dougherty’s sister is also considered to be the sister of his spouse, Eledge,” Dreher continued. Spermageddon: The Human Race May Actually Be Infertile in 50 Years

Modern medicine has long presumed fertility to be the dominion of women, a space ruled by gynaecologists and invasive procedures explained by softly pink pamphlets. But that is only half the story. Possibly even less, according to mounting evidence. Male fertility is dipping, and fast. Sperm may prove to be the greatest casualty of modern life.

Last summer, scientists at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem found that male sperm counts had fallen by almost 60 per cent in 40 years. In what was the largest study of its kind, they analysed data from 43,000 men from North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, taking in 185 studies from 1973 to 2011. Its lead author, Dr Hagai Levine, decreed the result an ‘urgent wake-up call’. . .

Stefan Chmelik, an integrated healthcare practitioner and the founder of Harley Street’s New Medicine Group, is quite clear in his predictions. ‘There are scant mainstream medical treatments for male fertility and, at current rates of sperm decline, the human race will be infertile in 50 years. I’m beginning to see IVF babies of IVF babies. While I’m certainly not judging, it’s hard not to wonder what happens when we see tenth-generation IVF children.’ (Read more from “Spermageddon: Why the Human Race Could Be Infertile in 50 Years” HERE)

New IVF Technique Uses Images of Embryos to Pick Best

A new IVF method that takes thousands of pictures of embryos to select the best eggs has increased the likelihood of a baby being born by 25 per cent.

The developing embryos are photographed while in incubators every 10 to 20 minutes and then sent to a computer to rank the eggs using algorithms.

Research including 24,000 documented treatments led by leading fertility expert Professor Simon Fishel compared IVF babies born with and without the new technique.

Parents Paul and Paula Chapman were the first to use the new approach which successfully led to the birth of their daughter Jaycie, three.

The couple, from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, had been unable to conceive for two years and went to the Nottingham-based Care Fertility group to seek help. (Read more from “New IVF Technique Uses Images of Embryos to Pick Best” HERE)

Woman Launches Legal Challenge to Give Birth to Her Dead Daughter’s Baby

A mother is launching a legal battle for possession of her dead daughter’s frozen eggs so that she can become pregnant with her own grandchild.

In what may be the first case of its kind, the 59-year-old woman and her husband, 58, are challenging an independent regulator’s refusal to allow them to take the eggs to a US fertility treatment clinic.

The couple say it was the dying wish of their daughter, an only child who died of bowel cancer in her late twenties, that her eggs be fertilised by donor sperm and implanted into her own mother’s womb.

The daughter initially had her eggs frozen after being diagnosed with cancer in the hope that she herself could have children in the future. Her parents want to export the eggs to New York, where a clinic has indicated it is willing to provide treatment at an estimated cost of up to $92,500.

Dr Mohamed Taranissi, who runs the ARGC fertility clinic in London, said: “I have never heard of a surrogacy case involving a mother and her dead daughter’s eggs. It’s fair to say that this may be a world first.” (Read more from “Woman Launches Legal Challenge to Give Birth to Her Dead Daughter’s Baby” HERE)

Designer Duo Hit Back at ‘Hypocritical’ Elton in IVF Storm

Italian designers Dolce and Gabbana on Monday accused Elton John of being authoritarian, ignorant and hypocritical as a celebrity-driven row over IVF babies and gay adoption showed no sign of abating.

John, 67, stirred up a storm when he called for a boycott of the designer label in reaction to an interview in which Domenico Dolce referred to babies conceived through IVF as “synthetic”.

In Instagram comments that have been endorsed by celebrities including Victoria Beckham, Ricky Martin, Sharon Stone, Courtney Love and Martina Navratilova, the gay star accused the Italian duo of “wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF.”

He added: “Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana.”

The hashtag was the top trending one on Twitter in Britain on Monday and in the top three in Italy, with most posts highly critical of the Italian duo. (Read more from “Designer Duo Hit Back at ‘Hypocritical’ Elton in IVF Storm” HERE)
