Miller Wins Final Debate: Record 9-0

Joe Miller demonstrated again tonight why he is the best candidate to defeat Mark Begich, outshining his GOP rivals on the debate stage. He also stated in the final head-to-head matchup before Tuesday’s election, although he expects to win the Republican nomination, he will support whomever the nominee is in the cause of beating Mark Begich.

Miller, responding to a question put to all three candidates about supporting the winner, turned to Dan Sullivan and Mead Treadwell and said, “We must do everything we can to make sure Mark Begich is defeated. I believe I’m going to be the primary winner with the voters’ and God’s help. But if one of you two guys, I have never said this before, I will support you guys. I will. We’ve got to get rid of Begich, there is no question about it.”

Miller’s gesture of unanimity in the cause of defeating Begich to both his rivals came despite Mead Treadwell accusing Miller earlier in the debate of putting out a racist campaign piece regarding his opposition to amnesty. Miller found the charge preposterous pointing out he has no racial ill-will against illegal aliens, but believes our laws must be enforced. He pointed out his son-in-law, father of his first grandchild, is a Mexican national, while his siblings are married to immigrants from India and Indonesia. His daughter is a missionary in Mexico. Miller said, “Lawful immigration, great. We are a nation of diversity. ”

An important area of difference between the candidates centered on Rand Paul’s Life at Conception Act. While both Mead Treadwell and Dan Sullivan stated they support the right to life, neither was willing to offer support for Paul’s bill defining life (with legal protection) beginning at conception. Treadwell spoke of supporting legislation “that helps reduce the number of abortions,” while Sullivan said we should support legislation that “makes the number of abortions less.” Sullivan added that Paul’s statute seems to “try to change the Constitution.” Miller responded, “Unequivocally yes…The Life at Conception Act establishes something I believe is foundational. If we as a country decide we are not going to defend the most defenseless. If we decide the most defenseless lives can be taken. What other rights can government take?” Miller pointed out he is the only candidate endorsed by Alaska Right to Life.

“Joe had another great debate,” said spokesman Randy DeSoto. “He is rising in the recent polls and picking up a string of endorsements in the days leading up to Tuesday’s election including from the Alaska Veterans Party, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and the Anchorage Tea Party (“ATP”) just announced its endorsement. The group stated though ‘all three Republican candidates are saying things we want to hear, ATP believes that Joe Miller is the only one who can be trusted to take action consistent with his promises.’ With the support grassroots Alaskans, we believe Joe will be the candidate chosen to take on and defeat Mark Begich.”

Miller Blasts Begich on Border Crisis, Says Palin Right on Impeachment

Today Joe Miller blasted Alaska’s junior senator, Mark Begich, for his leadership failure relating to the illegal immigration crisis.

“Silence is consent,” said Miller. “Mark Begich has not even deemed the crisis on our southern border worthy of a press release. There is no doubt that he is complicit with the President in encouraging and empowering this illegal invasion, both from a policy perspective by voting for amnesty, and by virtue of his refusal to hold Barack Obama accountable for dereliction of duty and usurpation of Congressional authority.”

Joe Miller is the only candidate in the race for US Senate to take an unequivocal stand on amnesty and border security. Mead Treadwell has embraced limited amnesty for illegals, and Dan Sullivan has taken hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign cash from numerous big-monied pro-amnesty donors, including Paul Singer’s Friends for an American Majority, John McCain’s America First PAC, and Lindsey Graham’s Fund for America’s Future. He is also backed with independent expenditures from Karl Rove’s American Crossroads and the US Chamber of Commerce. Both favor amnesty for illegals.

According to the Federation for American Immigration Reform, ten thousand illegal aliens reside in Alaska, costing the state more than $138 million per year in public services.

Joe Miller is the only candidate to fill out the NumbersUSA candidate questionnaire. He has also been named a “True Reformer” for his strong stand for the rule of law and against amnesty for illegals.

While the illegal immigration crisis has very serious implications for the rule of law in America, other concerns exist as well, including public health–given recent reports of illness and disease among those crossing the border illegally–and national security. Many the Administration describes as “children” are actually teens who are affiliated with gang activity, and are connected to the Mexican drug cartels. The confirmed cases of Middle Eastern terrorists and Chinese nationals coming through our porous southern border are alarming.

Miller concluded: “The truth is, what we are facing with respect to the massive influx of illegals is not only a rule of law issue, it is a public health risk and a threat to our national security. There is no doubt President Obama and enablers like Mark Begich are responsible. Sarah Palin is right; it’s time to impeach this President for dereliction of duty, selectively enforcing the law, and usurping powers that the Constitution does not authorize. He is willfully undermining the rule of law and creating chaos.”

Miller Applauds Supreme Court Ruling in Favor of Hobby Lobby

Joe Miller applauded the Supreme Court ruling today affirming the right of closely-held family businesses, like Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood, to opt out of the Obamcare employer mandate requiring them to provide abortion-inducing drugs in their health insurance plans. These business owners objected to this mandate under their First Amendment, free-exercise rights.

“I am very pleased with the Supreme Court’s decision,” said Miller. “While it is narrow in scope, the fact that business owners’ free exercise rights have been recognized is a step in the right direction. The Obama Administration’s chilling assault on the free exercise guaranteed in the First Amendment is outrageous, and all people of good faith, regardless of ideology, should see this as a triumph for Constitutional liberty.”

Miller maintains that this ruling demonstrates once again just how flawed Mark Begich’s 60th and deciding vote on Obamacare was. The right to free exercise of faith and conscience is foundational to the American experience, and is grounded in our God-given natural rights. Government has neither the right, nor can it have a moral mandate to coerce conscience.

“Mark Begich either doesn’t understand, or doesn’t care,” said Miller. “If it’s the latter, his callousness toward people’s deeply held religious convictions is stunning, especially when one considers his Catholic upbringing. If it’s the former, maybe some education is in order. That Mark Begich stands by his flawed vote for ObamaCare, including the federal government’s ‘authority’ to trample over Alaskans’ First Amendment rights is shocking.’”

Republicans Likely to Win Senate Majority; Miller Slated to Win in Alaska

Liberal Senator Mark Begich is running for reelection and, according to pundits, will face Joe Miller in the general. Miller is slated to win that contest, too.

Photo Credit: Win McNamee / Getty ImagesIn Nebraska, Republican senate nominee Ben Sasse leads by 17 percent over Democrat nominee David Domina, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll released yesterday. Sasse, a conservative Republican supported by all the major national TEA party and conservative organizations, won the primary in Nebaska this past Tuesday and appears to be likely to be elected the state’s junior senator in November. Rasmussen Reports have him leading 51 percent to Domina at 34 percent in that senate race.

In the meantime, the senate seat in Kentucky is now in play, as the Real Clear Politics average of polls gives Mitch McConnell only a one point lead over Democrat nominee Alison Lundergan Grimes in the race for the Kentucky senate seat. McConnell first ran in 1984 for this senate seat, and by the end of 2014 he will have served 30 years as senator. McConnell was reelected with just 53 percent of the vote in 2008, and is likely to be more vulnerable in 2014.

If McConnell loses the general election, it would help the Democrats retain a majority of the senate after the 2014 elections despite seat lost in other states. There are 36 seats up for election in 2014. Among the other 64 seats not up for election in 2014, Democrats hold 34 of them while Republicans hold 30. 25 of the seats up for election are considered likely or safe for either party, which includes 16 seats currently held by Republicans and 10 seats currently held by Democrats. With those seats added, Democrats will have 44 seats (including the two independents that caucus with the Democrats) and Republicans will have 46 seats. The remaining 10 seats will decide which party controls the senate after the 2014 elections…

Alaska: Incumbent Senator Mark Begich is running for reelection and 2010 nominee Joe Miller appears to be the likely GOP nominee. Begich should be a strong candidate but a united (rather than divided like four years ago with Lisa Murkowski running as a write-in) GOP behind the eventual Republican nominee would give him a fair shot at defeating Begich. For now, this one leans Republican.

Miller Applauds Alaska Libertarians for Schooling Begich in Liberty

Republican US Senate Candidate Joe Miller today responded to a recent statement from Alaska Libertarian Party Chair Michael Chambers regarding Senator Mark Begich’s recent mischaracterization of the libertarian movement in an interview with CBS News.

“I appreciate the fact that the Alaska Libertarian Party is speaking out on the important issues facing our state and nation,” Miller said. “What we don’t need more of is Mark Begich’s progressive ideology masquerading under the banner of liberty. True libertarianism is grounded in Constitutional liberty, and I am proud to share those values with the Alaska Libertarian Party.”

Begich attempted to align himself with libertarianism by suggesting that as Alaskans “we’re very libertarian . . . and we don’t think that government should be interfering in our personal and private lives.”

Alaska Libertarian Party Chair Michael Chambers responded with the following:

“Senator Begich, allow me to define the vast majority of libertarians for your educational benefit, as you seem to be confused:

1. I know of no Alaskan libertarian who would remotely support the government takeover of our healthcare industry.

2. I know of no Alaskan libertarian who would vote to confirm:
• Eric Holder – anti-gun
• Elena Kagan – anti-gun
• Sonia Sotomayor – anti-gun

3. I know of no Alaskan libertarian who supports:
• Common Core
• Federal Department of Education
• suppression of parental rights in education

4. I know of no Alaskan libertarian who would vote to support and advocate:
• The IRS in any malignant manifestation
• NDAA and the suspension of habeas corpus
• NSA invasion of our personal effects
• The Patriot Act

5. No Alaskan libertarian I know would advocate globalist policies like:
• The United Nations Law of the Sea Treaty
• TPP – Trans Pacific Partnerships
• UN Treaties having any jurisdiction or precedence over the US Constitution.

Certainly, there are a few libertarians who may support the socialist policies you advocate, but to infer that you are ‘libertarian’ in any of your political representations is to vacate any measure of truth.”

Miller concluded, “These are momentous times, and it is imperative that we transcend partisan frames of reference. The only way we can push back federal tyranny is for all Alaskans of good will to unite under the banner of Constitutional Liberty.”

Joe Miller is a husband, father, combat veteran, and advocate of Constitutional liberty who believes in individual rights, private property, free markets and the sanctity of human life.

Miller: I Cannot In Good Conscience Stand By and Do Nothing

Dear Friend of Liberty,

Democrat Senator Mark Begich is scared. Following the President’s ObamaCare press conference yesterday, Begich announced his support for delaying implementation of the law’s so-called “grandfather rule” for two years rather than one.

The provision has already caused thousands of Alaskans and millions of Americans to lose their healthcare coverage. This fits a pattern for the vulnerable first term senator, who also wants to delay the employer mandate for another two years.

The reason is perfectly clear: he does not want the bad news of cancelled policy notices, dropped employer coverage and lost jobs to be hitting Alaskans as they head to the polls next fall. This is the DC establishment at its self-absorbed worst.

Rather than truly fixing the problem by repealing ObamaCare, Mark Begich stands by his 60th and deciding vote and seeks to delay some of its gravest consequences just long enough to somehow get re-elected. We know if he is successful, he will spend six more years whole-heartedly supporting liberal policies that rob our freedom and take this nation inexorably down the road to financial catastrophe.

These are perilous times for our country. Nothing else could induce me to venture back onto a battlefield that I know is bound to exact a high personal price, not just for me, but also for my family. But I cannot in good conscience stand by and do nothing while the political establishment puts their own self interest above the best interest of the American people.

You know where I stand. Constitutional government is the only answer to the challenges we face as a nation. It is time to stand up and fight for the things we hold dear: individual liberty, private property, free enterprise, and self-determination.

Alaskans also know that we are a unique state with boundless resources, but we have a high level of dependency on the federal government. It is time to move away from centralized power, and back toward the model of federalism envisioned by our founders.

The dysfunction of the central government – evidenced by the unmitigated Obamacare disaster, out-of-control deficit spending, and near-total disregard for the Bill of Rights – makes a return of power to the states not just a good idea, but one that could be necessary to our very survival as a free and prosperous society.

With the balance of power in the US Senate at stake, Alaska has become a battleground state in the 2014 election cycle.

Already corporate and special interests are spending big bucks to help Democrat Senator Mark Begich retain his seat, and outside groups are organizing on the ground in an effort to gain a strategic advantage.

While this is a matter of some concern, it is not a reason for panic. We have no intention of playing the traditional establishment game, or allowing our opponents to dictate our mode of operation.

We have the most extensive grassroots network in the state of Alaska, but we need your help to mobilize and spread our message of reform.

While we have not yet announced our official campaign kick-off date, I can assure you that we are already hard at work, and meeting with key allies from around the state and the nation to lay the necessary groundwork for a successful run. And in the meantime, we will continue to provide accountability for our sitting senator.

Let’s keep our eye on the ball. This isn’t a race merely about partisan advantage, it’s about saving the country we love.

Without a doubt, we are already watching candidates posture for political advantage. This week Mark Begich engaged in political theatrics playing the part of the outraged Senator who is shocked to learn that Obamacare is causing thousands of Alaskans to lose their healthcare plans and thousands more to see their premiums increased significantly. But we know it is not about what this or that candidate has to say during an election cycle that matters. We have heard that song and seen that dance before.

The question before the voters of Alaska will be one of who can be trusted to confront this lawless administration and to advocate for real reform in Washington.

My positions haven’t changed. I will fight tirelessly to dismantle the Washington bureaucracy and return government to the people.

Please help make reform a reality by making a generous donation today! I cannot win this battle without your generous financial help.

Together, we can return American values to our nation’s Capitol, and return power to the people.

Thanks for your friendship and support!

Yours for Liberty,

Joe
