Los Angeles police officers on Saturday shot and killed a man who was seen brandishing what was later determined to be a realistic-looking airsoft rifle.

Two officers responded to a home at Grand Avenue and 102nd Street around 1:20 p.m. following a domestic violence call, police said. The area was about nine miles south of Downtown Los Angeles.

The man, later identified as 19-year-old Luis Herrera, came out of the residence carrying a type of rifle, according to police. (Read more from “Police Officers Shoot Man Holding Realistic-Looking Airsoft Rifle” HERE)

LAPD To Collect Social Media Info on Everyone They Stop

Los Angeles Police Department officers say they’ve been instructed by their chief to collect the social-media user names of everyone they stop, including people who are not arrested or accused of a crime.

The information is needed for investigations, arrests and prosecutions, according to a July 2020 internal memo from Police Chief Michel Moore.

The Guardian of London cited the field-interview cards officers must fill out when questioning people. Along with the usual information, such as name and date of birth, there are places to record Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social-media accounts.

Officers have been warned that supervisors will review the cards to make sure they are complete and accurate.

The non-profit Brennan Center for Justice obtained the documents because of the civil-liberties concerns they raise. (Read more from “LAPD To Collect Social Media Info on Everyone They Stop” HERE)

Dem Pushed to Cut LAPD Funding While Having Private LAPD Detail at Her Home Since April

DailyWire reports Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez, a Democrat, pushed to make drastic cuts to the Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) funding amid a nationwide campaign by the far-left to defund police departments — a move she made while having an LAPD unit stationed outside her private home since April.

Spectrum News 1 journalist Natalie Brunell reported that the unit, which guards Martinez’s home, usually includes two police officers and has been in place for the last two months.

“The private security detail infuriated some members of the force when Martinez became one of the council members to spearhead a motion to cut $150 million in funding to the LAPD’s budget,” Brunell reported Monday. “Multiple LAPD sources confirmed the units were directed to provide 24/7 security beginning April 4 at Martinez’s home, almost always staffed by two officers. As of May 6, we’re told the detail decreased to 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. with roving patrol checks overnight.”

Neighbors confirmed to Brunell that the officers have been stationed in front of the home for the last two months and indicated that they apparently felt safer having the police around, although they did not want to speak on camera. LAPD Chief Concerned About Fatal Shooting of Unarmed Man in Venice [+video]

CortijoFuneral1_400Los Angeles police Chief Charlie Beck said Wednesday he was “very concerned” by an officer’s fatal shooting of an unarmed homeless man in Venice, saying he had not yet seen any evidence that would justify the shooting.

Beck said he had reviewed a security tape showing the incident, but did not detail what it showed. He cautioned that the investigation was still in its early stages, but said that so far, “I don’t see the supporting evidence that I normally would.”

“Any time an unarmed person is shot by a Los Angeles police officer, it takes extraordinary circumstances to justify that,” he said. “I have not see those extraordinary circumstances at this point” . . .

The man, whom friends said was known by the nickname “Dizzle,” was described as a transient. He was in his 20s, L.A. County coroner’s officials said.

About 11:30 p.m., officers with the LAPD’s Pacific Division responded to a call from an employee at a local business reporting that a man was harassing customers near Windward and Pacific avenues. (Read more from “LAPD Chief Concerned About Fatal Shooting of Unarmed Man in Venice” HERE)
