Rep. Gohmert: Budget Deal Violates My Principles (+video)

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.) challenged Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) assertion that the budget deal he negotiated with Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) does not violate conservative principles even though it raises federal spending beyond the $967 billion limit set by the Budget Control Act of 2011 (BCA).

“I want to be supportive because I know Paul worked hard on it, but – and he says it doesn’t violate our principles – but it violates the previous agreement we had. And that’s kinda part of my principles,” Gohmert told CNSNews.com.

“And I know it’s part of the president’s principles,” he continued. “Clearly, President Obama does not want the budget caps burst through. Why would I say that? It’s because the president, I heard him very clearly with my own ears saying that if a bill is agreed to by both Houses and he puts his signature on it, and the Supreme Court doesn’t strike it down, then it’s the law and we’re not changing it.

“So he had the idea of the sequestration. Both Houses passed that bill and he signed it into law. It’s been upheld, so it is the law of the land – the court hasn’t struck it down. So obviously, unless the president wasn’t being truthful when he said that, then he would surely want the sequestration cuts to remain in place.”

Louie Gohmert Says Don’t Listen to John McCain, As He ‘Supported Al Qaeda’ (+video)

Photo Credit: Right Wing Watch via YoutubeBy Eric Levenson.

Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert said Sen. John McCain “supported al Qaeda and rebels” in Syria while speaking at the Values Voter Summit on Friday. Gohmert accused the Vietnam veteran of supporting the enemy to explain why Republicans shouldn’t listen when McCain says the GOP can’t win the government shutdown. (Recent polls show the GOP is being crushed in the government shutdown.)

“I heard just before I came some senator from Arizona,” Gohmert said, a slight referring to McCain that brought out some audience laughter. “A guy that liked Qadaffi before he wanted to bomb him, a guy that liked Mubarak before he wanted him out, a guy that’s been to Syria and supported Al-Qaeda and rebels.” Finally, he gets to his main point. “But he was saying today ‘The shutdown has been a fool’s errand.’ And I agree with him. The President and Harry Reid should not have shut this government down,” he said to applause.

Photo Credit: AP‘You’re Wrong There!’: Louie Gohmert Bottles Fox News Anchor Over Who’s to Blame for the Mess in Washington

By Becket Adams.

Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert got into a tense back-and-forth Saturday with Fox New’s Arthel Neville over who is to blame for the partial government shutdown and the frightening possibility of a debt-ceiling breach.

The Republican Congressman insisted that President Barack Obama and his Democratic allies in the U.S. Senate are responsible for the current mess in the nation’s capital.

“The party’s brand was hurt with TARP,” said Gohmert, “was hurt with so many things, but especially two and a half years ago when we made an offer to cut some of the massive overspending, and the President and Harry Reid (D-NV) said, ‘Nope, it’s our way or the highway.’”

The Fox News anchor wasn’t satisfied with Rep. Gohmert’s analysis.

“You’re not saying that either, Congressman?” Neville said. “Let’s have some honest talk here.”

Gohmert: Obama Administration Acting Like ‘a Bunch of Cowards’ for Closing 19 U.S. Embassies in Response to Terror Threat

Photo Credit: Getty ImagesThe Obama administration has been accused of behaving ‘like a bunch of cowards’ after 19 embassies were closed in the wake of the al-Qaeda terror alert.

Louie Gohmert, a Republican congressman from Texas, recalled the September 11, 2012 terror attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

Clinton famously suggested in a Senate hearing that it was largely irrelevant whether the attack was the result of a terrorist plot or – as the administration initially claimed – an outgrowth of a spontaneous anti-U.S. protest.

‘It brings us back to the question that Hillary Clinton asked: “What difference does it make at this point?”‘ Gohmert said.

‘The difference it makes,’ he said, ‘is that if you will bother to find out exactly what went wrong, why you didn’t have security where you needed it, where you need security to shore up, what you can do to make sure that doesn’t happen again, you don’t have to close your embassies like a bunch of cowards that go running away.’

Explosive Exchange: Rep. Louie Gohmert Confronts FBI Director on Failure to Investigate Mosque that Boston Bombers Attended (+video)

Things got seriously tense during a House Judiciary Committee hearing Thursday when Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) and FBI Director Robert Mueller battled over the efficiency of the FBI’s investigation into the Boston bombers prior to the April 15 terrorist attack.

Surprisingly, Mueller claimed he wasn’t aware that the mosque that the Boston bombing suspects attended, the Islamic Society of Boston, was founded by a convicted supporter of terrorism.

Due to this and other reasons, Gohmert argued not enough was done to prevent the attack as the suspects’ radical Islamic ties were overlooked.

Holder and Gohmert Go Full Contact in House Fight Over Boston Bombings

Photo Credit: Daily Caller Attorney General Eric Holder and Rep. Louie Gohmert clashed Wednesday on how the FBI conducted its investigation into the Boston Marathon bombing.

Early in his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, Holder said he felt the FBI’s investigation into the terrorist bombings had been “thorough.” Texas Republican Gohmert took issue with that idea, pursuing a line of questioning about what the FBI had and had not asked Tamerlan Tsarnaev after they received information from Russian intelligence indicating he had become radicalized.

Gohmert explained he was “trying to determine how the FBI blew the opportunity to save people’s lives by accepting the Russian information and following up on it.”

The Republican congressman claimed that the investigation had been derailed due to concerns about profiling of Muslims. Gohmert asked whether the FBI’s questions for Tsarnaev had focused on his Muslim beliefs and his involvement with the Islamic Society of Boston, an organization that holds radical views and has connections to terrorist front groups.

“A lot of people are concerned about profiling, but there are a lot more people concerned about getting blown up by a terrorist,” he said.

Rep. Gohmert: AG Holder Has Spent More Time 'Trying to Help Terrorists than Trying to Corral Them'

Photo Credit: Gage Skidmore[Rep. Louie] Gohmert is a member of the House Judiciary Committee and is vice chair of the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security. He is flabbergasted by the Justice Department’s decision to formally charge and read Miranda rights to Tsarnaev while he was cooperating with the FBI. Tsarnaev stopped talking as soon as his rights were read to him.

“If they never gave the Miranda warnings ever, the result would be that anything that he said after he was taken into custody might be subject to being excluded from evidence at the trial. If a prosecutor could not prove this guy guilty of numerous crimes that would put him behind bars for the rest of his life, then they’re just not competent. So the concern was not about gathering evidence to use against him after he was picked up. The concern should have been to get more information about the threat against America,” Gohmert said.

“I guess with our attorney general having spent more time before being AG trying to help terrorists than trying to corral them, the first impulse was let’s get him to stop talking because they filed charges they didn’t have to file that quickly. Somebody made sure the judge shows up with lawyers and gives him his rights and shuts him up, while he is in the process of giving invaluable information. It is unbelievable. If it’s not bad enough that they bungled getting this guy picked up and his brother picked up and questioned before they blew up people in Boston, then now to get him to shut up when he has invaluable information potentially is just really egregious,” he said.

Gohmert said Attorney General Eric Holder had to know that issuing Tsarnaev his Miranda rights at that point would only result in the defendant ending his cooperation with interrogators. He said it’s just the latest head-scratcher from Holder and the Obama administration as a whole.

“Between the Department of Justice actions that resulted in people being killed in Fast & Furious, the result of this administration’s backing al-Qaida-backed rebels to run out Ghaddafi so that then they end up killing our people there and then the people being killed in Algeria. I mean, one after another we’ve had incidents where this administration has shown incompetence. So it seems to be a real pattern,” he said.

The Establishment Wars Against Another Tea Party Leader

With growing dismay, I’ve read a number of recent press reports on the increasingly vicious bipartisan attack on Representative Michele Bachmann.  What on earth did she do?  Rep. Bachmann (and a few of her colleagues, including my friend, Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas) had the audacity to request a federal investigation into “potential Muslim Brotherhood infiltration into the United States Government.”

What prompted Rep. Bachmann to ask for this?  Nothing less than evidence from a myriad of FBI reports and federal court cases identifying a number of Muslim Brotherhood front groups, some of which are currently advising departments and agencies of the federal government.

In her investigation request, Rep. Bachmann also noted that Huma Abedin, deputy chief of staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, had close family connections to the Muslim Brotherhood.  This spawned a sharp reaction from Senator John McCain, calling the linkage “nothing less than an unwarranted and unfounded attack on an honorable woman.”  The State Department also joined in, stating that Ms. Bachmann’s allegations were “absolutely preposterous.”

But the worst was leveled by her former campaign chief, Ed Rollins, yesterday:

I have been a practitioner of tough politics for many decades. There is little that amazes me and even less that shocks me. I have to say that Congresswoman Michele Bachmann’s outrageous and false charges against a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Huma Abedin reaches that threshold.

Her unsubstantiated charge against Abedin, a widely respected top aide to Secretary Hillary Clinton, accusing her of some sort of far-fetched connection to the Muslim brotherhood, is extreme and dishonest.

And then this below-the-belt hit:

Having worked for Congressman Bachman’s campaign for president, I am fully aware that she sometimes has difficulty with her facts, but this is downright vicious and reaches the late Senator Joe McCarthy  level.

So what exactly did Rep. Bachmann say that was so injurious?  Here it is in her own words:

The Department’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Huma Abedin, has three family members – her late father, her mother and her brother – connected to Muslim Brotherhood operatives and /or organizations. Her position affords her routine access to the Secretary and to policy making.

Although she never accused Abedin of being a Muslim Brotherhood loyalist herself, Ms. Bachmann stated later that the

concerns about the foreign influence of immediate family members is such a concern to the U.S. Government that it includes these factors as potentially disqualifying conditions for obtaining a security clearance, which undoubtedly Ms. Abedin has had to obtain to function in her position.

For us to raise issues about a highly-based U.S. Government official with known immediate family connections to foreign extremist organizations is not a question of singling out Ms. Abedin.  In fact, these questions are raised by the U.S. Government of anyone seeking a security clearance.

Given the reasonable assumption that Ms. Abedin has a high-level security clearance, as a member of the House Select Committee on Intelligence I am particularly interested in exactly how, given what we know from the international media about Ms. Abedin’s documented family connections with the extremist Muslim Brotherhood, she was able to avoid being disqualified for a security clearance. If these known and documented family ties to the Muslim Brotherhood would not disqualify someone for a security clearance, what specifically is the standard to be disqualified on foreign influence grounds?

Nothing factually inaccurate there.  Of course, none of her detractors bother with that; they deal in hyperbole, hoping to shoot the messenger with the now-politically routine ad hominem attack.  Fortunately, their over-the-top efforts seem to have backfired, giving Congresswoman Bachmann a new platform to address the increasing risk of Islamic fanaticism in the U.S.

Please join her in this effort.  And if you have the resources, send a donation her way.  After all, I suspect that what this “outrage” is really about is this:  the Establishment wants to remove a troublesome Tea Party leader from the U.S. House of Representatives.  As recent elections have shown, they’d much rather seat a liberal Democrat (or RINO) who loves big government than a committed constitutionalist who stands by the principles of our Founders.
