Mexico Has a Plan to Deter Illegal Aliens From Flocking to the United States. Here’s What It Entails.

Over the next five years, the Mexican government plans to spend $30 billion on Central American development. Their goal is simple: to keep illegal aliens from heading north towards the United States border, USA Today reported.

According to Mexican Foreign Ministry Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico “will change its migration policies to respond to the needs required in the south of our country and Central America,” although it’s unclear exactly how those funds will be spent.

“We’re going to guarantee that the rights of migrants in our territory are respected,” Newly-elected Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrado told reporters on Dec. 5. “About how to resolve the problem, we’re putting together a proposal to invest in productive projects and job creation. And, not only that, in work visas as well for Mexican and for the United States.”

The decision comes after multiple migrant caravans filled with illegal aliens made their way across Central America, through Mexico and to the United States-Mexico border. Those on the caravan hoped to file for asylum but quickly found out they would have to wait months to have their case heard. Now, they’re sitting in Mexico, waiting. Mexico Will InvesT $30 Billion in Development Plan to Curb Migration

By Mexico News Daily. The federal government will invest more than US $30 billion over the next five years on a Comprehensive Development Plan with Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador aimed at curbing migration to the United States, the foreign secretary said yesterday.

Speaking at a United Nations (UN) migration conference in Marrakech, Morocco, Marcelo Ebrard said that Mexico has made a commitment to cooperate closely with Central American countries and expressed confidence that the plan would be feasible and effective.

Ebrard said he expected that the plan, which will seek to develop Mexico’s poor southern states, would curb migration better than “containment measures.”However, he didn’t explain exactly how the US $30 billion investment will be used or where the money would come from.

Thousands of Central American migrants have traveled through Mexico as part of several caravans during the past two months, leaving the authorities of the past and current federal government to grapple with finding a way to stem migration under increasing pressure to do so from the United States government.(Read more from “Mexico Will Invest $30 Billion in Development Plan to Curb Migration” HERE)

The Caravan Is Making the Most Ridiculous Demand for Them to Go Home

By Newsweek. Central American asylum seekers in Mexican border town Tijuana reportedly marched to the U.S. Consulate on Tuesday to present the Trump administration with an ultimatum: Let us into the country or give us $50,000 each to turn back home.

The demand came a month after asylum seekers began to arrive in Tijuana. Many still face weeks, if not months, of waiting in the border town before their asylum claims can be processed.

Asylum seekers showed up at the consulate in two groups, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune, with one of the groups—made up of roughly 100 people—delivering the $50,000 demand.

Asked how the asylum seekers came up with the figure, organizer Alfonso Guerrero Ulloa of Honduras told the newspaper that while “it may seem like a lot of money to you…it is a small sum compared to everything that the United States has stolen from Honduras.”

In a letter outlining the ultimatum, the group reportedly criticized U.S. intervention in Central America. The U.S. intervened in numerous military coups as it sought to protect commercial interests in the region. Students Offended by ‘Distasteful’ Sign Advertising Migrant Caravan-Themed Sandwich

By Washington Examiner. A restaurant near the campus of Clemson University has upset students. Their grave error? Naming one of its sandwiches the “Tijuana Chicken Sandwich.”

The restaurant, named “ Loose Change,” put a sign outside their establishment which read:

“Big enough to feed a caravan. Built high enough with smoked chicken, lettuce, tomato, pepperjack, bacon + guac. Bordered with a side of pub chips. So good, it should be illegal.”

Tijuana Mayor Unloads on Caravan, Will No Longer Offer Assistance to Migrants

By Townhall. Tijuana’s mayor has had enough. He’s not spending any more city funds to help the migrants and he’s calling for the arrest of the caravan’s leader. The migrant caravan, mostly made up of Hondurans, has finally reached the U.S. southern border, where it clashed with both Mexican police and U.S. Border Patrol. They tried to rush the border crossing last weekend, which was thwarted. Tear gas had to be used to disperse the crowd, which sent liberal America into full froth. Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI) wondered if the chemical weapons convention was violated. It wasn’t. This is pure idiocy. It was pure pandemonium.

Tijuana’s mayor simply said that his city doesn’t have the resources to shelter the migrants. The migrant caravan has also cannibalized too much economic activity. Tax increases could be on the table for the city’s residents if things don’t get cleared up soon (via Fox News):

After declaring the migrant caravan a “humanitarian crisis” this week, Mayor Juan Manuel Gastélum told Fox News that he can no longer continue to fund the municipal effort to shelter them without federal assistance.

“I’m not going to break public services to solve this problem,” the Tijuana mayor said. . .

“In those six hours that the border was closed, we lost approximately 129 million pesos,” he said. “That’s not fair. How do you think people from Tijuana feel towards those people who are making problems?”

Shouting ‘Mexico First,’ Hundreds in Tijuana March Against Migrant Caravan

By NPR. The message for the migrant caravan was clear from marchers on Sunday in Tijuana, Mexico: We don’t want you here.

“We want the caravan to go; they are invading us,” said Patricia Reyes, a 62-year-old protester, hiding from the sun under an umbrella. “They should have come into Mexico correctly, legally, but they came in like animals.”

A few hundred Tijuanenses gathered in the city’s high-end Rio area to protest the groups migrating from Central American countries.

Demonstrators held signs reading “No illegals,” “No to the invasion” and “Mexico First.” Many wore the country’s red, white and green national soccer jersey and vigorously waved Mexican flags. The crowd often slipped into chants of “Ti-jua-na!” and “Me-xi-co!” They sang the national anthem several times. Here’s What Happened to the Caravan Riders Who Tried to Storm the United States Border

By Townhall. Late Sunday evening, hundreds of illegal aliens attempted to rush the United States-Mexico border, something they talked about a few days ago. What the caravan riders didn’t expect, however, was the Border Patrol utilizing tear gas to keep them from successfully crossing into the United States.

Roughly 500 caravan riders rushed past a barricade created by Mexican officials. They then went to rush the border, at which point the Border Patrol tear gas to protect agents.

“After being prevented from entering the port of entry, some of these migrants attempted to breach legacy fence infrastructure along the border and sought to harm CBP personnel by throwing projectiles at them,” Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen said in a statement. “DHS will not tolerate this type of lawlessness and will not hesitate to shut down ports of entry for security and public safety reasons. We will also seek to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law anyone who destroys federal property, endangers our front-line operators, or violates our nation’s sovereignty.”

Mexico Caravan: U.S. Shuts Crossing After Migrants Rush Tijuana Border

By Washington Post. U.S. authorities closed off the busiest port of entry along the U.S. border with Mexico on Sunday and fired tear gas at members of a Central American migrant caravan who had rushed the fencing that separates the countries. . .

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said in a statement that the port of entry was closed “to ensure public safety in response to large numbers of migrants seeking to enter the U.S. illegally.” (Read more from “Mexico Caravan: U.S. Shuts Crossing After Migrants Rush Tijuana Border” HERE)

Caravan Planning ‘Human Stampede’

By Townhall. Members of the caravan traveling from Central America are talking about rushing the border en masse to provoke the Trump administration and make it across the border, Fox News reported.

“They have that intention,” Sergio Tamai, a founder of Angels without Borders, a group helping the migrants, told Telemundo 20 in San Diego. “I believe that thousands could make that jump.”

Over the last two weeks, at least 3,000 illegal aliens have arrived in Tijuana, Mexico, just south of San Diego, California. The Mexican federal government, however, anticipates that number to rise to 10,000 in the next few months.

The caravan riders have camped out in Tijuana in hopes that President Trump will grant them asylum, although some are growing impatient.

“Most of us, yes, we want to be on the other side,” Honduran caravan rider Jorge Molina said. “Some want to jump over the wall, others to go another way, and others want to wait and see what kind of response they get.” (Read more from “Caravan May Rush the Border to Provoke the Trump Administration” HERE)

Migrant Caravan Members May Be Planning ‘Human Stampede’ at U.S. Border: Aid Group

By Fox News. Some members of the migrant caravan, who have spent the past month traveling from Central America through Mexico to reach the U.S. border, are talking about crossing the border en masse as a way to provoke the Trump administration, an aid group has claimed.

“They have that intention,” Sergio Tamai, a founder of Angels without Borders, a group helping the migrants, told Telemundo 20 in San Diego. “I believe that thousands could make that jump.”

At least 3,000 migrants have already arrived in Tijuana, a border city across from San Diego, Calif., the past two weeks. The federal government estimates the number of migrants could grow to 10,000 in the coming weeks, or months.

Those already in the city have camped out in tents, slept on dirt fields or under bleachers or are staying in overcrowded shelters throughout the city as they wait to figure out their next steps.

But some are growing impatient, and believe their best option is to plan a mass crossing. (Read more from “Migrant Caravan Members May Be Planning ‘Human Stampede’ at U.S. Border: Aid Group” HERE)

Mexican Immigration Agents Detain 213 Migrants in Fourth Caravan

By Washington Examiner. Mexican immigration agents on Wednesday detained almost all of the Central American migrants on a fourth caravan that recently entered Mexico seeking to reach the United States.

Mexico’s National Immigration Institute said 213 migrants were detained and taken to a processing center. Those found to lack proper documents may face repatriation to their home countries.

The migrants detained on a highway between the Guatemalan border and the southern Mexican city of Tapachula included 186 people from El Salvador, 16 from Guatemala, 10 Honduras and one Nicaraguan.

The group set out from El Salvador on Nov. 18 and apparently crossed the river dividing Guatemala and Mexico on Tuesday. That is the same route the three larger caravans took after entering Mexico starting Oct. 19.

The caravans find strength in numbers, and Mexican officials have been loath to confront the first caravans, which numbered between 1,500 and 6,000. But agents have detained smaller groups that split off from the larger caravans. (Read more from “Mexican Immigration Agents Detain 213 Migrants in Fourth Caravan” HERE)

Homeland Secretary Says Caravan Organizers Using Women and Children as Human Shields

By CBN News. Homeland Security Secretary Kirjsten Nielsen offered a disturbing assessment when she toured the border wall in southern California Tuesday.

She observed the work of Border Patrol and US active duty troops who have been installing new concertina wire along the wall in preparation for those in the caravan who will try to enter the US illegally.

Nielsen says 6,200 of the 10,000-strong caravan are already in Tijuana, and they have a strategy for sneaking across the border.

“Organizers of the caravan have been pushing women and children and others to the front of the caravan in the hope that law enforcement will not engage them,” Nielsen reports. “This is particularly dangerous given the unusual propensity for violence we have seen in this caravan.” (Read more from “Homeland Secretary Says Caravan Organizers Using Women and Children as Human Shields” HERE)

Troops at Mexico Border to Begin Heading Home as Thousands of Migrants Arrive

The thousands of military troops that were deployed to the U.S.-Mexico border in response to incoming migrant caravans from Central America will begin withdrawing this week and should all be home before Christmas, according to Politico.

President Donald Trump ordered 5,800 troops to the border to support U.S. Customs and Border Patrol in its efforts to prevent the illegal entry of migrants into the U.S., but it appears their work is mostly done even as thousands of migrants begin arriving in Tijuana, Mexico.

“Our end date right now is 15 December, and I’ve got no indications from anybody that we’ll go beyond that,” said Army Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Buchanan, who is in charge of the troops at the border.

What this means: Most of the deployed troops are in Texas, and most of the migrants — about 6,000 as of early Monday — are arriving in Tijuana, which is about 20 miles south of San Diego, California.

According to the Military Times, 2,800 troops are in Texas, 1,500 are in Arizona, and 1,300 are in California. As military personnel cannot perform law enforcement duties, the troops have been setting up barriers along the border and supporting border patrol operations.

Watch: Mexican Protesters Side With Trump

Hundreds of Tijuana residents gathered on Sunday to protest the caravan migrants that are coming through Mexico to the United States, warning that “Donald Trump was right, this is an invasion!” and chanting, “Get out Hondurans, we do not want you here.”

“Tijuana residents waved Mexican flags, sang the Mexican national anthem and chanted ‘Out! Out!’ in front of a statue of the Aztec ruler Cuauhtemoc … they accused the migrants of being messy, ungrateful and a danger to Tijuana,” The Associated Press reported. “They also complained about how the caravan forced its way into Mexico, calling it an ‘invasion.’ And they voiced worries that their taxes might be spent to care for the group.”

. . .The news comes as hundreds of migrants reached the border fence that separates Tijuana, Mexico, and San Diego, California, early last week and “some of them began illegally entering the U.S. after climbing the fence,” The Daily Wire reported.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a report in early November that stated there are “hundreds of convicted criminals or known gang members traveling in the migrant caravan that is traveling through Mexico to the U.S. southern border.”

“In fact, over 270 individuals along the caravan route have criminal histories, including known gang membership,” DHS reported. “Those include a number of violent criminals – examples include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, armed robbery, sexual assault on a child, and assault on a female.”

Trump Tweets a Photo of What the Border Fence With Tijuana Looks Like Now

President Trump, apparently frustrated with footage of the U.S. border fence in Tijuana, Mexico, tweeted a photo Monday afternoon of a new and improved version.

Meanwhile, thousands of illegal migrants traveling in a caravan from Central America have made their way to Tijuana. They are on the Mexican side of the border waiting to make asylum claims in the U.S. The Trump administration recently implemented a new policy that allows migrants to claim asylum only at official ports of entry. Approximately 100 cases per day are completed and wait times can be as long as six months.
