The Planned Parenthood Shooting and Anti-Christian Hysteria

As expected, no sooner had blood been spilled at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado than accusations of “Christian terrorism” began to fly across the internet, despite the fact that: 1) no motive had been announced; 2) there was no hint of a connection between the murderer and any pro-life organization; and 3) pro-life leaders immediately denounced the killings as soon as the news was released.

In the words of Jason Benham, posting on Twitter, “True pro-lifers care about all life, including employees and clients of #PlannedParenthood. Praying for those in #ColoradoSpringsShooting.”

Or, as stated by Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, “While the investigation into the shooting at the Planned Parenthood center continues, regardless of what the motive is determined to be, we strongly condemn this violence. . . . Only through peaceful means –not violence— can we truly become a nation that once again values all human life, born and unborn.”

In contrast, Bette Midler was quick to point a finger, also using Twitter: “Thanks to overheated screeds spewing from the mouths of the GOP, and in Congress, innocent people have died in CO, including a policeman.” And, “We share the concerns of many Americans that extremists are creating a poisonous environment that feeds domestic terrorism in this country.”

Others began to ask me on Facebook when I was going to denounce “Christian terrorism,” just as I regularly denounce Islamic terrorism, with one man asking me about “apparent Christian terrorist Robert Lewis Dear.” (Dear was the shooter, who ultimately surrendered to police.)

A blogger on the Patheos website went as far as stating that, “Christian terrorism is a bigger threat to U.S. freedom than Islamic extremism.”

He concluded his article with these startling (and, plainly, ridiculous) words: “Today’s attack is an act of religious terrorism, there should be no other words to describe it. Just as many demand we label terrorism carried out in the name of Islam as Islamic terrorism, we must do the same to Christianity and realize the Christian religion is just as dangerous and prone to incite violence as its younger brother, Islam.”

How do we respond to irresponsible and irrational rhetoric like this?

The respected Newsweek journalist Kurt Eichenwald even tweeted, “The time has come to hold @daviddaleiden accountable for violence spawned by his lying ‘baby body parts’ video. Indict him 4 manslaughter.”

Like many other leaders, as soon as I heard the news about the horrific shooting, I tweeted out, “In light of today’s news about a shooter at a Planned Parenthood, we state again that this is NOT the way of Jesus or the way of pro-life.”

Then, as I began to see the mounting charges of “Christian terrorism” or “Christian extremism,” I tweeted, “In light of some crazy rhetoric here re: pro-lifers wanting to kill abortion doctors, if that was the case, 1,000’s would be killed by now.”

The fact is that the pro-life movement is an overwhelmingly peaceful movement, despite our profound and deep objection to abortion on demand and despite the deplorable practices of Planned Parenthood. As blogger Matt Walsh noted, “Interesting fact: Planned Parenthood kills 100 times more people in a day than alleged ‘anti abortion extremists’ have killed in 40 years.”

As for those “anti-abortion extremists,” their actions have been condemned by all major pro-life groups as well as by all major Christian leaders involved in the pro-life movement, since, by murdering another human being, they violate the very spirit of being “pro-life.”

More importantly, there is not a single word in the teaching of Jesus or the New Testament that supports murdering an abortion doctor (or worker), nor is there anything in ancient Christian tradition or example that would support this.

That’s why it was no surprise to learn that the alleged shooter in last week’s tragic attack was completely unknown to the pro-life movement and that, according to one report, after a divorce in 2000, “he appears to have posted apocalyptic rants online and sought sadomasochistic sex and pot-smoking companions.” This is hardly Christian!

That’s why Christian leaders in Belgium are scratching their heads upon hearing the report that, “A menacing letter from the group called ‘Christian state’ has been sent to the major Belgian mosque Attadamoune. It threatens all Muslims will be killed, and their businesses destroyed.”

They too have no idea who this alleged “Christian” group could be – if the letter is even genuinely from such a group – since there is no connection between Christian teaching, in any recognized denomination or tradition, and threats like this.

And in stark contrast with radical Islamic groups, pro-life leaders in the Church and government have called for the defunding of our ideological opponents at Planned Parenthood whereas radical Islamists call for the beheading of their ideological opponents.

So, I have a challenge for everyone who wants to brand the tragic Planned Parenthood shooting an act of Christian terrorism: Find one verse in the New Testament, in context, or one example from the early Church, or one statement from a recognized pro-life organization that supports these murderous acts.

Radical Muslims can find plenty of support for their violent actions in the Quran, the life of Muhammad, early Islamic history, later Islamic history, and from the lips and pens of respected contemporary leaders, which is why I refer to it as radical Islam.

Radical Christianity, in stark contrast, stands for the giving of life and the preservation of life, not the taking of life. And while the term “Islamic terrorism” is hardly an oxymoron, the term “Christian terrorism” is absolutely oxymoronic and fundamentally self-contradictory. Police Officer Killed at Planned Parenthood Was Pro-Life, Christian Pastor

Officer Garrett Swasey, the police officer killed during a standoff with a lone gunman at a Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado Springs Friday, was reportedly a leading figure in his church who was also pro-life.

Swasey was one of three people killed during the shootout with suspect Robert Lewis Dear. Nine others were injured during the shooting. Dear’s motives in the shooting remain unknown.

Officer Swasey was on duty at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs campus when he responded to a call to support Colorado Springs police at around 11:50 am, local time.

The New York Times reports that Swasey spent seven years as co-pastor at Hope Chapel in Colorado Springs . . .

A bio of Swasey and his family on the website of his church states: “Garrett and Rachel began attending Hope Chapel in 2001. Initially drawn by its small size, they have grown to love the fellowship and teaching at Hope Chapel. As they raise their son, Elijah and daughter, Faith, they view the members of the church as their family. Both have been granted a servant’s heart by God, and are a demonstrative evidence of God’s grace to Hope Chapel. Suspect Spoke of ‘Baby Parts’ After Planned Parenthood Shooting

Suspected Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood shooter Robert Lewis Dear mentioned “baby parts” to investigators and in later interviews expressed anti-abortion and anti-government views, a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation told CNN.

Law enforcement officials caution it’s too early to determine a motive in the case until all evidence is gathered and examined. That process is still ongoing. Though the state is taking the lead, the FBI is conducting its own investigation to determine whether federal charges would be filed.

The official told CNN that propane tanks were found in the area of Dear’s car in the parking lot, and that authorities believe he was trying to shoot them to cause an explosion.

The siege ended Friday when the suspect dropped his gun and surrendered in a hallway once the SWAT team brought in a BearCat armored vehicle and Dear was cornered . . .

Based on a public records search, Dear appears to have lived in Colorado for only about a year. In October 2014, Dear purchased property in Hartsel, a rural community about 65 miles west of the clinic, for $6,000. Zigmond Post, a neighbor, said one of the few interactions he had was when Dear brought him some anti-Obama pamphlets. “That’s about all I’ve run into him,” he said. Here’s Why Planned Parenthood Is Suing Texas

Planned Parenthood and 10 of its patients sued the state of Texas on Monday to block officials from cutting off Medicaid funds, calling the state’s actions political and part of a long-term pattern of denying reproductive healthcare to women.

“Women in Texas today have fewer rights than they did when I was growing up, and less access to healthcare,” Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Cecile Richards told reporters when announcing the lawsuit. “This time, they’re targeting some of the most vulnerable Texans — women who already have the least access to healthcare in the country.”

Texas. Gov. Greg Abbott announced in October that state health officials were kicking Planned Parenthood and its affiliates out of the Medicaid program, which pays for procedures such as cancer screenings, birth control and testing for sexually transmitted diseases.

In a statement at the time, Abbott said the state was acting in response to a series of antiabortion videos, which accused Planned Parenthood of profiting from the sale of fetal tissue. Planned Parenthood denies the allegations, and more than half a dozen state investigations have cleared the organization of wrongdoing.

“The gruesome harvesting of baby body parts by Planned Parenthood will not be allowed in Texas, and the barbaric practice must be brought to an end,” Abbott said at the time. “As such, ending the Medicaid participation of Planned Parenthood affiliates in the state of Texas is another step in providing greater access to safe healthcare for women while protecting our most vulnerable — the unborn.” (Read more from “Here’s Why Planned Parenthood Is Suing Texas” HERE)

U.S. Top Court Rejects Pro-Life Group’s Planned Parenthood Case

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected an anti-abortion group’s bid to force the federal government to reveal more information about a $1 million grant it made in 2011 to women’s health provider Planned Parenthood in New Hampshire.

The nine justices rejected an appeal filed by New Hampshire Right to Life, a group that sued the federal government under freedom of information law to find out about the arrangement.

The Supreme Court’s action leaves in place a February ruling by the Boston-based 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in favor of the government.

The government already has revealed some details about the grant, but New Hampshire Right to Life sought more, including a Planned Parenthood internal document that explains how the group operates its clinics.

Planned Parenthood, which provides abortions as well as health services for women, has been under fire for months by Republican lawmakers and anti-abortion activists over a series of videos produced by an anti-abortion group that purport to show that it improperly sells fetal tissue to researchers for profit. Planned Parenthood, China and Reproductive Slavery

Media have been ablaze with hopeful reports that forced abortion and the “gendercide” of baby girls will now be ended in China. In fact, little has changed, except that instead of forcing Chinese families to have just one child, now that country’s totalitarian government will force them to have no more than two. This decision did not reflect any recognition by the Chinese Communist Party that parents have any right to control the size of their families, nor that women must be freed from forced abortions, much less that human life is sacred. Far from it. The Chinese generals and technocrats simply crunched the numbers and decided that they need more cannon and factory fodder to fuel that country’s expansion, so they issued a single order that a billion people must follow.

Human rights activists such as Stephen Mosher and Reggie Littlejohn have documented in heart-rending detail the results of the “one-child” policy adopted in 1980 by a Communist government terrified of “overpopulation” that might lead to its loss of absolute control over Chinese society. (That same government, just nine years later, would roll over student protesters with tanks in Tiananmen Square, to keep its iron grip on power.) A Chinese Communist official boasted that this policy had cut Chinese population growth by 400 million people, as of 2011. In a secretive dictatorship such as China, it is impossible to know how many of these casualties were the result of forced abortions.

A climate of fear and coercion has dominated Chinese family life for a generation, as informers and spies hunt down women with “illegal” pregnancies, and families desperate for at least one son to support them have resorted to sex selection abortion on a massive scale. According to Lifenews, in China, “more than 120 boys are born for every 100 girls. This has created a bachelor society of men who will be unable to marry and has given rise to more crime, sex trafficking, prostitution, and other problems.” China has the highest female suicide rate on earth.

As Congressman Chris Smith told Lifenews, China’s policy, which will remain in place for women after their second birth,

is unlike any other in the world in that it requires all women to obtain a birth permit before becoming pregnant and children of unwed mothers are subjected to abortions. And it monitors the reproductive cycles of all women of childbearing age through a system of mandatory, regular, and crudely invasive physical check-ups. …

“The brave pregnant woman who refuses to give in is usually detained and beaten – or, if she goes into hiding, her relatives are detained and beaten. Families that succeed in hiding an ‘out-of-plan’ pregnancy are punished with fines up to ten times the average annual income,” he explained.

In fact, however, Rep. Smith is missing something. China’s policy is not unprecedented. It is simply the implementation of a plan that was floated back in 1934. In America. By a female “progressive.” Her name was Margaret Sanger. In the depths of the Great Depression, the eugenics-obsessed elitist and libertine Sanger took advantage of the newfound hope which voters had placed in the New Deal’s big, federal agencies to propose that the U.S. government impose a centralized, coercive plan of government control over childbearing.

As Sanger wrote in “America Needs a Code for Babies”:

Article 1. The purpose of the American Baby Code shall be to provide for a better distribution of babies, to assist couples who wish to prevent overproduction of offspring and thus to reduce the burdens of charity and taxation for public relief, and to protect society against the propagation and increase of the unfit. …

Article 3. A marriage license shall in itself give husband and wife only the right to a common household and not the right to parenthood.

Article 4. No woman shall have the legal right to bear a child, and no man shall have the right to become a father, without a permit for parenthood. …

Article 6. No permit for parenthood shall be valid for more than one birth. …

Article 8. Feeble-minded persons, habitual congenital criminals, those afflicted with inheritable disease, and others found biologically unfit by authorities qualified judge should be sterilized or, in cases of doubt, should be so isolated as to prevent the perpetuation of their afflictions by breeding.

China followed Sanger’s plan to the letter — with the direct involvement of the Chinese branch of her own organization, Planned Parenthood, which helped to enforce the policy on the ground, shaking down peasants for crippling fines to punish “illegal” births. Since China’s mode of family planning has true-blue American roots, perhaps we shouldn’t be shocked when U.S. academics such as Sarah Conley of Bowdoin College defend China’s genocidal policy, and argue that it ought to prevail worldwide.

Are We Images of God, or Termites?

This isn’t a national question. It’s an anthropological question. There are two radically different ways to view human beings:

As creatures born to families, enfolded in communities but fundamentally free, conscious, responsible reflections of the holy image of God.

As hive insects, like termites, hatched into rigidly ruled colonies — whose work, life, and breeding are controlled by the queen (or elite) at the top, which alone understands what is best for the swarm of mindless workers and drones.
The first is the classical Christian picture of man, which came to fruition in the wake of the Renaissance and Enlightenment, when the full implications of our freedom and moral equality as sons of God made themselves most powerfully felt: Representative government flowered across the West, movements grew to abolish serfdom and slavery, and free economies unleashed the vast inventive power and productivity of ordinary people. The outcome? In dozens of countries the average lifespans increased by decades, and populations expanded, as famine and punishing scarcity became the exceptions, not the rule. For the first time, most parents could be sure they might feed their families, and fewer and fewer infants were carried off by disease.

The second view is that of elitists, who are deeply pessimistic about the dignity, worth, and capacity of most of the human race. Except for a chosen few (selected by race, ideology, or wealth), the vast majority of human beings are stumbling, self-harming serfs, whose lives need controlling by the select few who know better. This vision of human life found its full expression in totalitarian movements of the twentieth century, whose roots lay in nineteenth century pseudo-sciences such as racism, eugenics, and Marxist economics.

Today’s elitists, like yesterday’s, treat the Christian view with contempt, as a crude relic of the past that enables the clueless masses to follow their blind instincts. Lately we have learned that some psychologists are trying to label religious instruction of the young as a form of child abuse that could lead to loss of custody by parents, while other scientists are calling religious belief a form of mental illness that can be cured (we’re not making this up) by “treating” believers’ brains with magnets. Such methods may be what is needed to solve the profound ecological problems posed by the masses’ right to vote, which worries the richest man on earth, Bill Gates.

In fact, it is only the ancient Judeo-Christian picture of human rights that can protect us from modern and post-modern pseudo-science, and defend the rights of women to bear their own children and raise their own families — without the bloody-handed interference of distant men in white coats or military uniforms who conceive of themselves as members of some higher and wiser species, with the right to spay and neuter whomever they choose. New Planned Parenthood Video: Doctor Wants Intact Fetal Heads for Brain Harvesting

A new Planned Parenthood video, the 11th in a series of secretly-taped interviews, shows a Texas doctor wishing to conduct an abortion that produces intact fetal heads for brain harvesting.

“I haven’t been able to do that yet,” said the doctor, Amna Dermish of Planned Parenthood Austin. “This will give me something to strive for.”

The video is the latest in the sting produced by the The Center for Medical Progress in the ongoing Planned Parenthood baby parts scandal that has led to the formation of a special investigative committee in Congress because the women’s health group receives federal funding.

Republican Sens. Mark Kirk of Illinois, Susan Collins of Maine, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska havn’t committeed to the defunding measure and without their support it is likely to fall short of the needed 51 votes, according to reports.

In the latest video, Dr. Dermish tells the camera that she was trained by the Senior Director of Medical Services at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Dr. Deborah Nucatola. (Read more from “New Planned Parenthood Video: Doctor Wants Intact Fetal Heads for Brain Harvesting” HERE)

Watch: Hacker Obtains, Leaks 11 Undercover Planned Parenthood Videos Blocked by Court

The website GotNews.com claims it has obtained and released “all” the remaining undercover videos of Planned Parenthood officials shot by the Center for Medical Progress (CMP), including videos that were blocked from being released to the public by a court order.

Eleven previously unseen videos have been uploaded to YouTube.

The website’s founder, journalist Charles C. Johnson, said that an internet hacker named Andrew “Weev” Auernheimer obtained the footage and uploaded it to YouTube . . .

The videos, which range in length from just over one minute to more than 36 minutes, contain more intrepid footage of abortion industry officials.

In all, the footage totals around four hours. CMP has said its investigators had “painstakingly” gathered “hundreds of hours of undercover footage.”

Johnson added that both he and his website have been served with a letter from the law firm representing the National Abortion Federation (NAF) – Morrison & Foerster – warning that, if they continue to make the footage available, they will be “subject to severe legal sanctions.”

Texas Agents Raid Planned Parenthood Offices

Texas sent agents to Planned Parenthood facilities on Thursday seeking documents, the group said, calling it a “politically motivated” move that comes on the heels of the state’s Republican leaders barring it from receiving Medicaid money.

Members of the Texas Office of the Inspector General made unannounced visits at Planned Parenthood health centers in Houston, Dallas and San Antonio, staying in some cases for several hours and giving Planned Parenthood 24 hours to deliver thousands of pages of documents stored at its facilities across the state, the organization said.

The Inspector General Office declined to comment, as did health officials. Inspector General agents were seen on local news reports entering a Planned Parenthood facility in San Antonio.

Texas, the most populous Republican-controlled U.S. state, said it would launch a probe of Planned Parenthood after the release of videos in July by anti-abortion activist group Center for Medical Progress in which a Planned Parenthood official is seen talking about transactions involving fetal tissue.

“We believe this is a fishing expedition,” Planned Parenthood of the Texas Capital Region Chief Executive Officer Ken Lambrecht told a news conference in Austin, calling the request “politically motivated.” (Read more from “Texas Agents Raid Planned Parenthood Offices” HERE)

Meet the Millennial Who Infiltrated the Guarded World of Abortion Providers

The slim young man with the Clark Kent glasses mingled easily at the conference of abortion providers. By day, he sat quietly in his company’s booth, under a sign festooned with a burbling lab flask. By night, he schmoozed with presenters at the swanky hotel bar . . .

Daleiden, 26, is the antiabortion activist who masterminded the recent undercover campaign aimed at proving that Planned Parenthood illegally sells what he calls aborted “baby body parts.” He captured intimate details of the famously guarded organization, hobnobbing at conferences so secretive that they require background checks and talking his way into a back laboratory at a Colorado clinic where he picked through the remains of aborted fetuses and displayed them luridly for the camera.

Daleiden’s videos landed like a bomb in Washington this summer, providing fodder for a crowded field of Republican presidential contenders and energizing social conservatives on Capitol Hill. They also shed harsh new light on the venerable women’s health organization, capturing officials sipping wine while joking about abortion and appearing to haggle over the price of fetal tissue . . .

Before emerging as the biggest star in the antiabortion firmament, Daleiden had long been a bit player. A Catholic and Southern California native who drives a Honda hybrid, Daleiden calls himself an investigative journalist and credits his California public school education with fomenting in him a passion for human rights . . .

At 15, he said, he Googled images of aborted fetuses — an exploration that cemented his antiabortion views. While studying at Claremont McKenna College, he began fixating on Planned Parenthood. He got a job with Live Action, an antiabortion nonprofit group led by a fellow millennial that made its name by mounting undercover “stings” against Planned Parenthood. In 2009, Daleiden was kicked off the neighboring Pomona College campus after aggressively questioning a Planned Parenthood official who had been invited to speak.
