By Randy DeSoto. Sadly, it is not surprising that every Democrat that has voted against defunding Planned Parenthood since 2000 received financial contributions from the organization.
Life News reports that it was Senate Democrats who blocked a measure to defund Planned Parenthood in August in a 53-46 vote on a cloture motion. This tally fell short of the 60 votes required to block a senate filibuster.
The Blaze assembled a list of the top 25 beneficiaries of Planned Parenthood political contributions, whether through its PAC or employees. Not surprisingly topping that list is Barack Obama, who some have described as the most pro-abortion president in United States history. Every single one of the top 25 recipients since 1990 was a Democrat.

“According to the Center for Responsive Politics, during the 2014 election cycle, PP gave $892,000 to Democrats and $3,100 to Republicans. The 2012 election cycle was even more generous to the Democrats, with $1.2 million to Dems compared to $26,600 to GOPers,” TheBlaze reports.
“The financial ties between Planned Parenthood and Democrats run deep, with the taxpayer-funded women’s health care and abortion provider’s employees and political arms donating at least $25 million to party lawmakers over the past 15 years,” according to Fox News . . .
Additionally, Sue Thayer, a former center manager for Planned Parenthood for 17 years, is expected to testify on Thursday before the House Judiciary Committee that the organization has been systematically defrauding the American taxpayers, the Daily Caller reports. By federal law, Planned Parenthood is barred from using taxpayer money to perform abortions. House OKs Planned Parenthood Probe
By Associated Press. The Republican-led House voted Wednesday to create a special panel to investigate Planned Parenthood and its procurement of fetal tissue as the GOP continued pressing an issue that has galvanized conservatives since secret videos surfaced this summer.
The near party-line vote was 242-184, as Democrats dismissed the probe as a wasteful political exercise by the GOP. It was unclear if Democrats would participate in the committee’s work.
Republicans said the committee was needed to examine whether Planned Parenthood is breaking laws or misusing taxpayer money. She of course said yes. We went through her income and expenses and determined she was eligible for funding. We informed her that she would only have to pay $100 of the $400 cost. The woman began to cry on the phone. So I began to cry. Wow. We were going to change so many lives with this money, this “Justice Fund” . . .
In 2003, there was a big scandal that broke out surrounding the company Pampered Chef. The majority of people selling this kitchenware were stay-at-home moms. Many of them were pro-life women. So imagine their surprise when they found out that the new owner of their company, Warren Buffett, had given millions to the abortion industry, primarily Planned Parenthood. Suddenly, there was a mass exodus from the company. Women were done selling their overpriced spatulas.
So, when Warren Buffett decided that he wanted to start this “Justice Fund” in order to donate $21 million a year to the abortion industry, you better believe that he wanted to remain anonymous. He tried to disguise the donations under the foundation started by him in the name of his wife, Susan Thompson Buffett. But the 990s are for public consumption. Abortions comprise roughly three percent of medical services provided each year by Planned Parenthood [but, along with related “services” – including the baby body parts trade – comprise a much, much greater percentage of the organization’s annual revenue]. The group completed 327,653 abortions during its 2013-2014 financial year. Planned Parenthood receives roughly $542 million dollars from tax-payers each year. By David Weigel. Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) was perplexed. Two long months had passed since the Center for Medical Progress started releasing undercover videos in which current and former Planned Parenthood employees described the grim economics of fetal tissue harvesting. Since then, a long congressional recess had come and gone and Republican-run states had redoubled their efforts to defund the family planning titan. Yet in the most recent poll from Reuters/Ipsos, 54 percent of voters still favored federal funding for Planned Parenthood.
“Those numbers are news to me,” said King. “I haven’t paid any attention to the polls. But am I surprised? Yes. That would explain some of the reasons why the leadership is not committing to defund.”
Since King made that analysis, the Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll has returned from the field, with even better news for Planned Parenthood. The full poll, to be released today, will find that the group’s favorable rating is slightly up since the July release of the videos, from 45-30 percent favorable-unfavorable to 47-31 percent. Going into Tuesday’s 10 a.m. congressional hearing on the group, a well-hyped showdown between the GOP and Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards, the video campaign appears not to have shifted public opinion on federal defunding.
“This is something the pro-life movement has been trying to educate people about for many years,” said Mallory Quigley, spokeswoman for the anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony List. “I’ve seen polling that finds even some people who consider themselves pro-life don’t know that Planned Parenthood performs abortions. When you’ve got President Obama and Miss America telling the lie for you, it goes a long way. I grew up with Judy Blume books, where the last couple pages would tell you that you should go to Planned Parenthood for health services.”
The sturdiness of support for Planned Parenthood stands out in a field of anti-abortion victories. For seven years, until 2015, more Americans told Gallup pollsters they were “pro-life” than “pro-choice.” Activists have credited even the omnipresence of social media, and the attendant photos of babies and sonograms, for building a culture of life. It’s allowed the movement to talk over the mainstream press and the dominant, progressive cultural voices. It hasn’t been able to talk over the Planned Parenthood defense squad. The House on Friday voted along party lines to freeze federal funding for Planned Parenthood after weeks of escalating tension surrounding its use of fetal tissue.
In a 241-187 vote, nearly all Republicans and two Democrats approved legislation that would block Planned Parenthood’s federal funding for one year, giving time for Congress to fully investigate claims of wrongdoing by the provider.
Lawmakers also passed a bill tightening restrictions on abortion doctors who violate infant protections in a 248-177 vote . . .
“Millions of Americans rely on Planned Parenthood for birth control, lifesaving cancer screenings, and other critical preventive care, and nothing that politicians in Congress did today will change the fact that our doors remain open to everyone, in every part of this country, who needs high-quality, compassionate reproductive health care,” said Eric Ferrero, the action fund’s vice president of communications.
The House vote represents the first time that congressional Republicans have approved legislation to defund Planned Parenthood in the wake of this summer’s undercover video controversy. The House Judiciary Committee probing Planned Parenthood’s abortion activities heard testimony on Sept. 9 from two women who are abortion survivors.
Gianna Jessen, who survived a saline abortion, told the committee abortion wasn’t just about women’s rights because another person, a baby, is involved.
“If abortion is about women’s rights, then what are mine?” Jessen asked.
The committee launched an investigation into Planned Parenthood after nine videos showed interviews with both the non-profit organization’s officials and those working in tissue research. The interviews contained details of how Planned Parenthood harvested and sold body parts from aborted babies. In some cases, the babies were still alive when their organs were taken, according to the videos.
The videos were part of an undercover investigation by the Center for Medical Progress, a pro-life advocacy group.
Jessen’s mother was a 19-year-old college student when she walked into a Planned Parenthood office at seven and a half months pregnant in 1977. According to Jessen, Planned Parenthood staff talked her mother into having a late-term saline abortion. This week, the Congressional Judiciary Committee conducted its first hearing on the investigation of Planned Parenthood.
Titled “Planned Parenthood Exposed: Examining the Horrific Abortion Practices at the Nation’s Largest Abortion Provider,” this first hearing included four witnesses, one of which was Ms. Priscilla Smith, a Director and Senior Fellow at the Program for the Study of Reproductive Justice at Yale Law School. Her comments before the committee were truly horrifying.
During the questioning period, Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte read from Justice Kennedy’s dissent in the U.S. Supreme Court Stenberg v. Carhart decision. Kennedy had quoted the testimony of Dr. Leroy Carhart, a famed and brutal late-term abortionist.
Carhart testified that he had personally “observed fetal heartbeat” on an ultrasound screen, even after substantial portions of the baby had been dismembered and pulled apart. This type of abortion is known as a D&E abortion, or a “dismemberment abortion,” as the baby is literally torn and ripped apart, limb from torso . . .

Angered by videos in which Planned Parenthood officials discussed compensation for providing fetal tissue from abortions, Republicans in Congress are again demanding an end to government funding for the nearly 100-year-old provider of women’s health services.
Away from the headlines, however, the group is facing other major challenges, including one from a far different source: the Affordable Care Act, which it avidly supports.
Many formerly uninsured women who once depended on Planned Parenthood for low-cost access to birth control, abortions and other reproductive healthcare have gotten coverage under President Barack Obama’s healthcare law, making them less reliant on the organization’s 700 clinics.
In many states, Planned Parenthood is losing clients as newly insured patients turn to medical providers included in their health plan’s networks, according to data provided to Reuters and interviews with more than two dozen of its affiliates.
“Some people relied on us because they were uninsured prior to the Affordable Care Act. Now they can go anywhere for care, and some of them have been,” said Lori Carpentier, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Mid and South Michigan, which expects to treat 58,000 patients in 2015, down about 15 percent from the 68,000 it treated in fiscal 2012, before major parts of the law went into effect. “Care. No matter what,” that’s the slogan for Planned Parenthood Federation of America, which sells itself as the “most trusted women’s health care provider in the country.” But Planned Parenthood’s public relations line avoids the heart of its “service” — abortion.
The organization — which boasts almost one billion dollars of net assets — is the largest provider of abortion in the United States, performing more than 30 percent of the 1,058,490 abortions done each year. All the while, Planned Parenthood takes in more than $500 million annually from federal, state and local government. Its four clinics in Alaska receive thousands of public dollars from the state.
Now, however, as the public takes a clearer look inside Planned Parenthood through a series of undercover videos by the Center for Medical Progress in California, there have been renewed efforts to defund the organization. As in the past, Planned Parenthood and its advocates have sounded an alarm — that women needing health care would be lost without Planned Parenthood. Its CEO Cecile Richards recently Tweeted: “Attacking women’s health care continues to be a bad idea” and “Anti-abortion politicians vowed to do everything in their power to cut patients off from care.”
In an Aug. 15 interview Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York claimed: “Anyone who wants to defund Planned Parenthood wants to defund health care for women across the United States.”
But in fact, there are thousands of health care providers across the nation — and hundreds in Alaska — that provide health services for women, including women with low incomes, without performing abortion. And there might be more such providers if they had access to Planned Parenthood’s massive public subsidies.
THE ABORTIONS
Planned Parenthood’s main business is abortion. According to its latest annual report (2013-2014), Planned Parenthood’s affiliates performed 327,653 abortions. Last year in Alaska, there were 1,361 total abortions — according to Alaska’s Bureau of Vital Statistics. It is unclear how many of those were done by Planned Parenthood clinics in Alaska, and the organization’s state affiliate did not respond to an inquiry from the Catholic Anchor.
The state’s Vital Statistics Bureau would not disclose the number of Planned Parenthood abortions. Andrew Jessen, a Bureau research analyst and acting section chief, told the Anchor: “We can’t release that information” because the Bureau isn’t allowed to confirm — even indirectly — the identity of any facility that performs abortions.
An Alaska state statute requires the state to compile an annual statistical report on abortions based on voluntary reports from those performing abortions in the state. According to the statute, the state’s report “may not identify or give information that can be used to identify the name of any physician who performed an induced termination of pregnancy, the name of any facility in which an induced termination of pregnancy occurred, or the name of the municipality or community in which the induced termination of pregnancy occurred.” Then, after compiling the annual report, the state registrar “shall destroy the [abortionists’] reports received under this section.”
HEART OF PLANNED PARENTHOOD
But if the national Planned Parenthood’s annual financial report is any indication, abortion is the most lucrative aspect of the organization’s business in Alaska and elsewhere. According to the Guttmacher Institute, a standard surgical abortion at 10 weeks in 2009 was $451. So Planned Parenthood’s national total 327,653 abortions would represent at least $147.7 million (not taking into account pricier chemical and later abortions). If Planned Parenthood’s Alaska clinics likewise perform 30 percent of all abortions in the state, that translates to over $180,000 in revenue from abortions.
Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood insists abortion constitutes just three percent of their “services.” But Planned Parenthood calculates the three-percent figure by counting all “services” it renders the same – whether a disposable pregnancy test or an invasive, surgical abortion (sometimes multiple “services” are connected to the abortion). So while it provides more pregnancy tests (1.1 million nationally) than abortions, abortions account for a third of its total billion-dollar annual income.
Despite its abortion agenda, Planned Parenthood continues to receive massive amounts of public money. Across the nation, it receives $528 million in government grants and contracts from the federal government. Federal law stipulates federal dollars may not pay directly for abortion, but it enables Planned Parenthood to free up other funds for that purpose — and for promoting abortion on demand and fighting modest restrictions like parental-involvement laws, laws requiring abortion clinics to adhere to standards required of other surgical clinics, and laws to ban abortions on unborn babies who are fully capable of experiencing pain.
Alaska’s state government helps keep the abortion giant running here. Over the last three years, Planned Parenthood’s clinics received an average of $550,000 annually in state Medicaid reimbursements.
Planned Parenthood’s big abortion business has come under greater scrutiny in the last month, thanks to an undercover journalism project led by the Center for Medical Progress in California. Their videos show Planned Parenthood personnel negotiating the value of human fetal tissue obtained through abortions they performed which they sell to medical suppliers. The videos also show employees combing through and joking about the remains of aborted babies with discernible limbs.
This has led to a public outcry and efforts to strip public funding from Planned Parenthood nationally and at state levels. Over the last two months, activists and several state legislators seeking to de-fund Planned Parenthood have held rallies in Anchorage and Fairbanks.
In early August, the U.S. Congress took up a bill – S. 1881 – to stop the federal funding of Planned Parenthood. The money going to Planned Parenthood would have been reallocated to women’s health services provided by others. But President Barack Obama, a Planned Parenthood supporter, promised to veto the bill. And the bill was blocked in the Senate.
SERVICES THEY DON’T PROVIDE
Planned Parenthood is eager to hold on to its public dollars. When defending itself in the media and with legislators, Planned Parenthood spokespersons appeal to its now-debunked “three-percent” statistic and insist that providing other health services justifies their huge government checks. According to Planned Parenthood’s website, those health services are “birth control, general health care, HIV testing, LGBT services, men’s health care, morning-after pill (emergency contraception), pregnancy testing and services, STD testing, treatment and vaccines, and women’s health care.” Planned Parenthood’s CEO Cecile Richards has also stated that the group provides mammograms, but it does not.
In reality, Planned Parenthood does not provide much primary health care. In the latest count, Planned Parenthood’s affiliates across the country together provided primary care only to about 19,700 of its three million unduplicated clients. And these services have been trending downward – from 21,247 in 2007 to 20,235 in 2008, to today’s 19,796.
Curiously, in an August letter to constituents on the issue of funding Planned Parenthood, Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski said Alaska’s Planned Parenthood “has provided a wide range of services to 21,000 Alaskans” — which is greater than the number of Planned Parenthood’s primary care clients nationwide. The Catholic Anchor could not ascertain what “services” those people received because Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest refused to respond.
To be sure, Planned Parenthood’s services to pregnant women are skewed to abortion.
As posted in its 2013-14 annual report, this is Planned Parenthood’s breakdown of services to pregnant women: prenatal care 5.4 percent, adoption 0.5 percent, abortion 94.1 percent.
LIFE WITHOUT PLANNED PARENTHOOD
Women, including low-income women, have many and more comprehensive options outside Planned Parenthood.
Across the nation, tens of thousands of doctors and hospitals provide health care without performing and promoting abortion. And many institutions — like Providence Alaska Medical Center, a system of Catholic health care facilities in Anchorage, Kodiak Island, Mat-Su Valley, Seward, and Valdez — provide charity care for those with low income.
There are other consortia of providers who offer free or low-cost health care. Through Anchorage Project Access, patients are served by more than 450 physicians and providers including hospitals, imaging centers, therapists and other support services.
In addition, there are thousands of “safety-net” providers, namely community health centers like Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center. Many of these are designated federally-qualified health centers, providing a range of primary and preventive care to medically underserved and uninsured people, including cancer screenings, testing for sexually transmitted infections and contraception, the last of which contravenes the moral teachings of the Catholic Church.
According to Alaska’s Department of Health and Social Services, in Alaska there are 27 groups — such as tribal health corporations and governmental entities — that receive public funding for community health centers in over 150 sites — all across Alaska.
A 2010 article in the New England Journal of Medicine estimated that as many as 40 million Americans may come to rely on community health centers. Currently, five percent of Americans rely on them.
Pregnancy resource centers like Community Pregnancy Center of Anchorage provide free pregnancy testing, limited obstetrical ultrasounds and limited STI screenings. And services are expanding across the nation. Guiding Star and the Obria Foundation are nonprofit organizations in accord with the Catholic Church on the sanctity of human life that provide a continuum of comprehensive and affordable reproductive health care under one roof for women and men at medical clinics in Florida and California. The groups are working to expand across the country to improve women’s access to good reproductive health care. As affiliates of these parent organizations, existing pregnancy resource centers would provide consistent medical services — and many more than Planned Parenthood.
In addition, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention runs a nationwide program for the early detection of breast and cervical cancer. Through the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, women of low income — including those in Alaska — may obtain a free or low-cost Pap test and mammogram — a mammogram that Planned Parenthood does not provide, even for cash. This week, Hillary Clinton sent out an email asking for campaign donations and said that Republicans are going after “women’s health.” Although her email did not mention the videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s organ harvesting business, it is obvious that she is referring to pro-life Republicans who are trying to defund the abortion company.
She said, “I have to admit, I take it a little personally when Republicans go after women’s rights, and women’s health especially. Their extreme views are out-of-touch and out-of-date. We need to make sure not one of them becomes president. The way we do that is by engaging as many women in this campaign as possible.” In August, Senate Democrats filibustered legislation that would revoke $550 million of Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding, while almost every Senate Republican voted for the legislation.
The Blaze reports that Clinton’s email asked for a donation of at least $1 and said her campaign is launching “Women for Hillary.”
As LifeNews previously reported, Clinton’s spokesperson admitted that the former Secretary of State has not actually watched the Planned Parenthood footage even though she said it was “disturbing.” Karen Finney told MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts, “I think that she said that she’s seen images or pictures but she hasn’t seen the videos.”
However, later she came out with a video announcing her opposition to legislation that would completely defund the abortion company. In the video, she said she’s “proud to stand with Planned Parenthood” and criticized lawmakers who are working to take away their government funding. We learned from the latest exposé of Planned Parenthood and its organ-trafficking partners that some of the pregnancies which they ended were so far along that the children were nearly or fully viable. As one of the profiteers in the ninth video admits, she has witnessed procedures during which the “fetus was already in the vaginal canal whenever we put her in the stirrups, it just fell out.”
O unhappy fall! Those children fell out of the womb not into life but unto death, a death that was not profitless, thanks to Planned Parenthood and its allies — who finally answered Jesus’ ancient question: “For what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life?” Now we know: “$340 per second-trimester fetal tissue specimen.” Of course, the profiteers aren’t losing their own lives here, you will immediately think. Like hitmen, they are killing others.
But step back for a moment and consider this question in the light of Our Lord’s words. He spoke of losing one’s life to sin. Did He only mean the afterlife, or was He also speaking of this one? The kingdom of heaven begins for the blessed on earth, so perhaps the converse is true. Dante was bold enough to speculate in the Inferno that some of the damned can be glimpsed in hell while their bodies still move and function. He did not mean that literally; anyone can still repent up to the last minute he draws breath. But while we are resisting God’s grace, and clinging with cold, bitter fingers to our justifications for evil, what else are we doing on earth but rehearsing the Great Refusal, preparing our souls for hell?
What can the merchants of baby parts possibly think about their own lives, as they sort through human organs and total up the profits? As they count on their fingers how many hands they will need to amputate to spare the sensibilities of the techs who will open those coolers, what do these people make of their own hands, their feet, their very existence in human bodies? The logic of abortion implies an answer, but it’s not one they’re happy with: We are nothing more than animals, and when our brains flat-line we too will wink out like birthday candles.
But abortionists don’t really think that or act on that assumption. They claim for human beings something “heroic” and unnatural: The right of absolute choice, the freedom to harness the joy of sex quite unhinged from its biological purpose. What animals manage that, or even try to? In the natural world, no ape however brainy has thought to sterilize himself. No species routinely destroys its healthy young the better to maximize sexual pleasure. In the wild, mothers fiercely defend their offspring; they do not find strangers and reward them for tearing them out. Only man has thought to claim such a curious privilege — curious indeed, if we are merely animals. At best, it is a profound maladaptation, a symptom that our species has undergone some strange mutation and will likely die out quite soon.
Or else it is a sign. A perverse proof that we are not just another species in a series that begins with the bacteria. Who else but a god, like Zeus, would see his own children as a threat to his autonomy, and so decide to consume them? We would be as gods, and envious gods at that. We begrudge the next generation its chance to walk on this earth at all. How else can we interpret the fact that more human beings have been aborted across the world in the past 40 years than died in wars or genocides over the course of the past 100? That explains why unborn children are public enemy number one.
If we are envious gods, then what do we make of the fact that we are encased in these fragile bodies? What can the abortionist, who uses his human body to dismember other human bodies, possibly think that his body means? Is it anything more than a cage for a godlike spirit, which is sometimes gilded with pleasure?
There’s an ancient way of looking at the world that makes perfect sense of all this. No it’s not Christianity, but something much more mysterious and exotic, which makes no demands of obedience or self-renunciation. It’s called “Gnosticism,” and you can see it portrayed amusingly in 2014’s train-wreck movie Noah. In that anti-biblical epic, there are angels who have fallen for disobeying the Creator. And their punishment is to be trapped inside bodies and sent to earth. That is the Gnostic theory of every human’s biological existence. We are actually angels, bodiless spirits of endless potential and perfect freedom, whom an evil god (or gods) have plunged into the quagmire of flesh and blood, sperm and egg. It is our task to free ourselves by seeking out secret knowledge, to get back our godhood by any means necessary.
Like those poor butchered babies described in the latest video who “just fell out” of the womb, we fell out of the heavens, according to the Gnostic vision, and got trapped inside these bodies. What better way to resist, to shove our refusal back in the face of our hateful creator than to show Him exactly what we think of this cruel arrangement? We will destroy these bodies whenever we like, we will “modify” and mutilate them, we will use them however we like and even try to change our sex when that suits our spirit. We will craft bizarre hybrids of humans and animals, and in labs make hundreds of thousands of tiny bodies to keep in freezers for our convenience. When our bodies have worn themselves out, we will not even bury them, but burn them. Why leave behind a sad, decaying reminder of our shameful sentence on earth, when our spirits deserve so much more? (The practice of cremation in the West, which died when Rome converted, was revived by Enlightenment philosophes to rebuke the resurrection of the body.) The best way to emphasize the spirit’s radical freedom is to punish and degrade the flesh.
The Marquis de Sade understood that. That is why his books are at once Gnostic diatribes and viciously cruel pornography, riddled through with gratuitous scenes of Eucharistic blasphemy, crass attacks on the body of Christ. His anti-erotic sex books, which one might think would only appeal to the tiny percentage of frustrated serial killers out there, have instead been hailed by secular intellectuals as philosophical classics. One of de Sade’s central tenets, the linchpin of his plan for “liberating” us from nature and its Creator, was access to abortion. And his writing is just as gruesome as anything you’ll see in the Planned Parenthood videos.
It took the activist Margaret Sanger to turn de Sade’s dark fantasies into practice, to institutionalize and bureaucratize his evil. She played Lenin to his Marx. Her votaries today maintain de Sade’s temples in every ghetto. And now we see the fruits of their acts of sacrifice.
