Joe Biden Allows Vladimir Putin to Send More Russian Troops Into Ukraine Without Triggering Sanctions

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to send more troops into Ukraine would not trigger the sanctions prepared by the United States and European allies, the White House said Monday.

A White House official explained President Joe Biden’s position during a conference call with reporters Monday.

Biden officials reacted anonymously to Putin’s decision to send Russian troops into Ukraine’s Donestsk and Luhansk regions for “peacekeeping” after the two territories declared independence from Ukraine.

“Russian troops moving into Donbas would not itself be a new step,” the official noted during the call. “Russia has had forces in the Donbas region for the past eight years.”

Putin’s political play puts Biden and his administration in a difficult spot, as they have repeatedly said that large numbers of troops crossing the Ukrainian border would be considered an invasion. Russian Commanders Reportedly Given Orders to Invade Ukraine

By New York Post. The US has intelligence that Russian commanders have already received their orders to invade Ukraine, a report said Sunday — and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said he doesn’t believe President Vladimir Putin is “bluffing.”

“He’s been very deliberate in terms of assembling the right kind of combat and combat support capabilities in the border region, and so he has a number of options available to him there. And he could, he could attack in short order,” Austin told host Martha Raddatz on ABC News’ “This Week.”

“This is not a bluff?” Raddatz asked.

“No, I don’t believe it’s a bluff,” the secretary responded, adding that he thinks the Russian president has gathered the forces and equipment “you would need to conduct a successful invasion.”

On Sunday, CBS News said Russian commanders have received their orders and are making specific plans on how to carry out an invasion. (Read more from “Russian Commanders Reportedly Given Orders to Invade Ukraine” HERE)

U.S. Claims Russia Has List of Ukrainians ‘To Be Killed or Sent to Camps’ Following a Military Occupation

By Washington Post. The United States has informed the United Nations it has credible information showing that Moscow is compiling lists of Ukrainians “to be killed or sent to camps following a military occupation,” according to a letter to the U.N. human rights chief obtained by The Washington Post on Sunday night.

The letter alleges that Moscow’s post-invasion planning would involve torture, forced disappearances and “widespread human suffering.” It does not describe the nature of the intelligence that undergirds its assessment.

The new warning comes after the Biden administration, amid weeks of speculation about President Vladimir Putin’s intentions in Ukraine, said late last week that the Russian leader had decided to launch an invasion. From Bad to Worse: Biden Admin Claims Inflation Going to Make an Even Bigger Dent in Your Wallet

Vice President Kamala Harris warned that Americans could feel some “costs” of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, unwelcome news to many who are already bearing the costs of soaring inflation.

“When America stands for principles, and all of the things that we hold dear, it requires sometimes for us to put ourselves out there in a way that maybe we will incur some cost,” Harris said Sunday after a meeting with NATO leaders in Germany.

Harris said some of the costs to hit American pocket books “may relate to energy cost,” with Russia being one of the world’s leading producers of oil.

The vice president’s comments come as Americans have already seen prices on common good rise thanks to a four-decade high in inflation, according to the consumer price index. Those price increases have been spread across almost all common goods, including medical care, clothing, transportation, food, and shelter. Huh? Harris Claims Sanctions Could Deter Putin From Invading Despite Claiming He’s Already Made up Mind

Vice President Kamala Harris claimed on Sunday that sanctions that the Biden administration is considering imposing on Russia if it invades Ukraine, which critics have said amount to little more than a slap on the wrist, could deter Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite claiming on Saturday that Putin has already “made his decision.”

“If you believe Putin has made up his mind, what leverage do you really have?” a reporter asked. “Why not put those sanctions in place now?”

“The purpose of the sanctions has always been and continues to be deterrence. But let’s also recognize the unique nature of the sanctions that we have outlined,” Harris claimed. “These are some of the greatest sanctions, if not the strongest, that we’ve ever issued. As I articulated yesterday, it is directed at institutions — in particular, financial institutions — and individuals, and it will exact absolute harm for the Russian economy and their government.”

Ukraine’s President Leaving Country as Threat of Invasion Looms; Explosion Rocks Ukraine Pipeline

NATO allies are reportedly concerned by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s decision to depart his country this weekend and go to Germany as the threat of Russian invasion looms over the country.

“Allies of the 30-member alliance are reportedly worried that Russia could exploit the president’s absence as tension in Eastern Europe has reached a boiling point not seen in decades,” Fox News reported. “Zelenskyy, who is set to meet with Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday, is expected to be a key target if Russia does successfully invade Kyiv.”

The report comes as a massive explosion rocked a gas pipeline in Ukraine late on Friday, according to Reuters.

Democrat President Joe Biden said on Friday that he believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin has already made up his mind on whether he will invade Ukraine. (Read more from “Ukraine’s President Leaving Country as Threat of Invasion Looms; Explosion Rocks Ukraine Pipeline” HERE)

Dem Politician: If Russia Invades Ukraine, ‘U.S. Troops Will Be There and Americans Will Die’

Friday on MSNBC’s “Craig Melvin Reports,” Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) warned of the “high stakes” involved if Russian President Vladimir Putin were to invade Ukraine or another NATO ally.

Moulton, who was in attendance for the annual Munich Security Conference, advised that if Russia were to invade Ukraine, “U.S. troops will be there and Americans will die.” . . .

“And if there is one thing we should learn about Vladimir Putin is that he’s not going to stop,” he continued. “We thought that he might just go to Georgia. We thought maybe he’d just take Crimea. Now he’s looking at taking Kyiv, taking Ukraine; we all have to ask what comes next. And of course, if it’s a NATO ally, that means U.S. troops will be there and Americans will die. So, the stakes are very high right now here in Munich.” (Read more from “Dem Politician: If Russia Invades Ukraine, ‘U.S. Troops Will Be There and Americans Will Die’” HERE)

US: Early Stages of Russia’s Ukraine Invasion ‘Unfolding’ Now

Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned members of the United Nations Security Council Thursday that the early stages of a Russian invasion of Ukraine were “unfolding” after Moscow bolstered its forces along the border between the two nations in recent days.

Blinken, who swung by Turtle Bay on his way to Germany for this weekend’s Munich Security Conference, described the crisis as “the most immediate threat to peace and security” and called on the global body to “address” the situation.

“The stakes go far beyond Ukraine,” the secretary of state said in remarks lasting roughly 10 minutes. “This is a moment of peril for the lives and safety of millions of people as well as for the foundation of the United Nations charter and the rules-based international order that preserves stability worldwide.”

Blinken pointed to new intelligence showing that Russia is sending more ground troops, aircraft and ships to the region as it prepares to “launch an attack.”

“In fact, it’s unfolding right now, today, as Russia takes steps down the path to war and reissued the threat of military action,” he said. (Read more from “US: Early Stages of Russia’s Ukraine Invasion ‘Unfolding’ Now” HERE)

How Young Ukrainians Are Preparing for Possible Invasion

As the threat of Russian invasion looms over Ukraine, the country’s young generation is preparing in every way they know how. . .

Other than the noticeable increase in traffic, the general atmosphere is calm in the capital of Ukraine. The difference, Vlasenko said, is some people are leaving the city and the heightened level of anxiety people are facing within.

“Many [of my friends] went to Italy, to the west of Ukraine,” to see their family, she said, out of fear of invasion. “I’m worried, actually. I can’t believe Russia” claiming that it has no plans to invade, because in 2014, they annexed Crimea and invaded Eastern Ukraine, she continued. . .

Danylo Sheiko, a 19-year-old medical student studying in Lviv, in western Ukraine, shared Vlasenko’s anxiety.

“It feels like something is going to happen. There is something in the air,” he told the Daily Caller, saying that in the event of invasion, he plans to go to work in a hospital. (Read more from “How Young Ukrainians Are Preparing for Possible Invasion” HERE)

Russia Says Some Troops Will Withdraw From Border, but Ukraine Demands Evidence

Russia is pulling back some troops from military districts adjacent to Ukraine after completing drills, the Russian defense ministry said Tuesday, though Ukrainian officials are demanding to see evidence that this is true.

In a video statement Tuesday, Russian Ministry of Defense spokesman Igor Konashenkov said that while large-scale military exercises across the country continued, some forces in the southern and western military districts near Ukraine have completed their drills and will return to base, Reuters reported.

The Russian government posted video showing some tanks and other armored vehicles being loaded onto railway flatcars.

But Ukraine isn’t taking Russia’s claims at face value. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said Kyiv would “believe in de-escalation” only after it witnesses Russian troops withdraw from the border, according to the Interfax Ukraine news agency. What if This Whole ‘Ukraine Invasion’ Was a Hoax?

Let me preface this with the fact that I don’t know what I’m going to speculate about here to be true, but it’s the only thing that makes sense of the entire situation. Of course, if Russia invades Ukraine, either by the time this is published Tuesday or anytime thereafter, this could look pretty stupid. Still, I’m willing to risk it because nothing else makes any sense, when you consider the entire situation.

What if the idea of Russia invading Ukraine is a hoax? What if it’s just Russia doing what Russia loves doing – saber rattling – and nothing else? What if the western governments scrambling now to “prevent war” know this and are hoping the whole situation serve as a distraction from the various “Freedom Convoys” forming around the world to protest oppressive and ineffective government actions related to COVID?

Joe Biden needs a distraction from a lot of things, inflation being chief among them. It makes sense that he’s spewing things in such a panicked way that even the President of Ukraine is confused by it. You’d think the leader of the country “on the verge” of being invaded would be sounding the loudest alarm, but he’s not. The American President is. . .

Honestly, if Russia did attack Ukraine you would care? Would you even notice?

The answer is pretty easy to figure out. Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014. Did you notice then? How has your life been impacted by it? I’d bet not at all. So why would this be different? (Read more from “What if This Whole ‘Ukraine Invasion’ Was a Hoax?” HERE)
