Trump’s New Social Media Venture Is Under Investigation

Former President Donald Trump’s new social media company is under investigation from the federal government.

Trump revealed in October that he would take Trump Media & Technology Group and TRUTH Social, his new social media platform, public through a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) merger. However, according to CNBC, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) is requesting information “regarding stock trading and communications with Trump’s firm before the deal was announced.”

CNBC reported:

The investigations by the SEC and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority were disclosed in an 8-K filing with the SEC by Digital World Acquisition Corp., the special purpose acquisition company on track to merge with Trump Media & Technology Group…

The filing comes just two days after Trump Media & Technology Group and DWAC said the SPAC had reached agreements to obtain $1 billion in committed capital from a “diverse group of institutional investors” to be received when the merger is consummated. The identities of those investors in that so-called PIPE, or private investment in public equity, were not publicly disclosed.

Trump Announces New Social Media Platform

Former President Donald Trump announced he is launching a new social media platform designed to compete with Big Tech.

Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) announced Wednesday it was creating a new social media platform called TRUTH Social designed to “fight back against the ‘Big Tech’ companies of Silicon Valley.” . . .

“I created TRUTH Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech. We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced,” Trump said in a press release. “This is unacceptable.”

A beta version of the platform will be available to invited guests this November, according to the press release, and is currently available for pre-order in the Apple App Store. LAPD To Collect Social Media Info on Everyone They Stop

Los Angeles Police Department officers say they’ve been instructed by their chief to collect the social-media user names of everyone they stop, including people who are not arrested or accused of a crime.

The information is needed for investigations, arrests and prosecutions, according to a July 2020 internal memo from Police Chief Michel Moore.

The Guardian of London cited the field-interview cards officers must fill out when questioning people. Along with the usual information, such as name and date of birth, there are places to record Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social-media accounts.

Officers have been warned that supervisors will review the cards to make sure they are complete and accurate.

MASTER OF MISINFORMATION: Joe Biden’s Worst Lies

. . .[Joe] Biden has been assisted by deliberate misinformation by social media companies, who suppressed the (true) story of Hunter Biden’s laptop, and he has also produced misinformation, for political advantage, that has damaged the country.

1. Misinformation about neo-Nazis. Biden launched his presidential campaign in April 2019 by claiming that President Donald Trump had referred to neo-Nazis and white supremacists in Charlottesville, Virginia, as “very fine people.” In fact, Trump had said they should be “condemned totally.” Biden did not invent the lie, but by repeating it, he convinced many Americans that their president was a Nazi sympathizer, and stoked racial tensions that fed nationwide unrest.

2. Misinformation about the coronavirus vaccine. In August 2020, then-candidate Biden told Americans they could not trust a vaccine that was being produced by Trump’s Operation Warp Speed. “It’s not likely to go through all the tests and the trials that are needed to be done,” Biden said, slandering the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). He also said Trump was “moving it quicker than the scientists think it should be moved,” falsely claiming the authority of science.

3. Misinformation about officer-involved shootings. When police shot Jacob Blake Jr. in Kenosha last August, Biden called Blake “a victim of excessive force” and said that “the officers must be held accountable.” In fact, Blake was armed with a knife; had fought with officers; and was wanted on an outstanding warrant for sexual assault. A subsequent investigation exonerated the officers. Biden’s lie fueled outrage that had already exploded into riots on Kenosha’s streets.

4. Misinformation about Antifa and riots. As violent radicals affiliated with the Antifa movement attacked a federal courthouse in Portland, Oregon, for several months, firing incendiary devices and shooting laser beams at federal law enforcement officers, Biden claimed that the feds were “brutally attacking peaceful protesters.” His demonstrably false claim gave political cover to the radicals, who continued their destruction — in Portland, Kenosha, and elsewhere.

Just as Pro Tools gave burnouts the power to make techno, or PhotoShop let perverts alter celebrity images, soon anyone with a decent laptop will be able to generate a deepfake. It’s gonna be hilarious—at first. . .

MetaHuman’s first generation of digital androids is about as creepy as you’d imagine, if only because their presentation is so natural. Their facial movements mimic genuine emotions. Watching the demos, you’ll notice tiny pores, subtle wrinkles, hints of tooth crud, and even peach fuzz catching the backlight. The facial palette offers a wide range of skin tones, hairstyles, and bone structures. . .

Ultimately, this software will democratize deepfakes. It starts with innocent pranks, and ends in international scandals. As the fakes pile up, normal people will increasingly approach media with schizoid skepticism—a trend well underway. Any video evidence a person wants to ignore can be dismissed as a “deepfake.”

The inevitable explosion of phony content will also strengthen our self-designated “legitimate news sources” as the sole arbiters of what is real. Student Journalist Fired for Expressing Religious Views Online

A rising senior at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada, is suing his college newspaper following his termination for expressing Catholic doctrine on social media.

On June 9, 2020, the editor-in-chief of The Eyeopener, a student-led newspaper at Ryerson University, emailed part-time reporter Jonathan Bradley detailing how his Catholic views on sexuality made him ineligible to write for the publication. Bradley had made comments about what the Bible says about sexuality and transgenderism. He dubbed both a “sin.”

According to email correspondence obtained by The Daily Wire, Editor-in-Chief Catherine Abes terminated Bradley for allegedly creating an “unsafe” space for student journalists by expressing Catholic views online.

“Recently, The Eyeopener’s Twitter was tagged in a thread involving screenshots of a conversation in which you defended the notion that homosexuality as well as being transgender is considered a sin,” the email reads. “I fear that since you’ve made your opinion public, members of our community, especially queer, trans, and non-binary folks, would no longer feel safe if you are associated with the publication.”

Bradley is now suing the publication for alleged discrimination. In a copy of the lawsuit obtained by The Daily Wire, Bradley’s legal representation calls his termination “a dangerous precedent.” (Read more from “Student Journalist Fired for Expressing Religious Views Online” HERE)

Parler CEO Says He Has Been Fired

Parler CEO John Matze said he has been fired by the board of the social media company, which has not been running since the deadly siege against the Capitol last month.

Matze revealed his apparent departure in a memo to colleagues that was obtained by Fox Business on Wednesday. In it, he said that the decision to leave the social media company, which was favored by supporters of former President Donald Trump, was out of his hands.

“On January 29, 2021, the Parler board controlled by Rebekah Mercer decided to immediately terminate my position as CEO of Parler. I did not participate in this decision,” he said. “I understand that those who now control the company have made some communications to employees and other third parties that have unfortunately created confusion and prompted me to make this public statement.”

Amazon removed Parler from its cloud-hosting service because it said the social media platform was not effectively moderating and removing violent material, including “egregious content” related to the Capitol violence on Jan. 6. (Read more from “Parler CEO Says He Has Been Fired” HERE)

Social-Media CEO Urges Americans to Delete Big Tech Apps, Build Christian Economy

Gab.com is an online community where freedom of speech is paramount, with no “fact-checking” of “political opinions, news, history, math problems, memes, or anything else.”

With that objective, it’s not surprising it’s been banned from app stores and deplatformed by Silicon Valley giants.

Gab CEO Andrew Torba, who signs off on his commentaries with “Jesus is King,” says that recently his company has been dumped by a bank, a server-hardware company, an infrastructure analysis software operation and an accountant. . .

He said the problem is that many Christians think that to “be in the world, but not of the world” means giving “our money, time and data” to enemies.

New Research: Fake News Creates Fake Memories

Exposing the public to fake news may lead to the creation of false memories, according to a new study published in Psychological Science.

Researchers in the study asked participants to recall real-life events based upon provided news reports. Even though some of the news reports provided were fake, almost half of respondents reported remembering a fake event in real life — and “many” respondents recalled “rich details” about events that never actually happened, according to Science Daily.

The study, which focused on fake news related to abortion, was conducted shortly before the 2018 Irish referendum that overturned the ban on abortion. Gillian Murphy, the lead author and a researcher at the University College Cork, says that the study is significant because it analyzes the way misinformation influences the way people understand actual events, reports the news outlet.

“In highly emotional partisan political contests, such as the 2020 U.S. presidential election, voters may ‘remember’ entirely fabricated news stories,” Murphy told Science Daily.

Co-author Elizabeth Loftus, a researcher at the University of California–Irvine, believes that understanding how fake news affects the mind will become more important as technology improves, according to Science Daily. “With the growing ability to make news incredibly convincing, how are we going to help people avoid being misled?” asked Loftus, reports the outlet. College Student Falls to Her Death While Trying to Take Selfie

An Oregon State University student died Sunday morning after police say she fell 100 feet while trying to snap a picture at a popular mountain lookout.

Michelle Casey, 22, was taking pictures with her boyfriend at Neahkahnie Mountain when police say she stepped over a retaining wall and slipped, falling to her death.

The Tillamook County Sheriff’s office received a 911 call at around 10:16 a.m. reporting someone had slipped and fallen at one of the viewing areas along Highway 101.

Once on the scene, deputies found that Casey had “landed in a tree which prevented her from continuing into the ocean,” officials said in a press release. She was said to be unconscious but breathing when rescue teams reached her.

Authorities contacted the Cannon Beach Rope Rescue team who arrived at 10:51 a.m. But it took officials more than an hour to free Casey. (Read more from “College Student Falls to Her Death While Trying to Take Selfie” HERE)
