Kamala Harris Stumbles on Colbert, Can’t Name a Single Democrat Leader

During a recent appearance on The Late Show, former Vice President Kamala Harris struggled to answer a basic political question from host Stephen Colbert, leaving the audience — and Colbert himself — visibly perplexed.

In a segment that aired just days after Harris announced she would not seek California’s governorship, Colbert asked her to name who she believed is currently leading the Democratic Party.

“There are lots of leaders,” Harris responded vaguely.

Colbert pushed back, noting, “There’s generally a leader.”

Despite being pressed, Harris refused to name any individual. “I’m not going to go through names because then I’m going to leave somebody out and then I’m going to hear about it,” she said, before pivoting: “It is a mistake for us… to put it on the shoulders of any one person.”

The interview ended abruptly after the exchange as Colbert appeared to lose steam following the dodged question.

Critics on social media were quick to react, mocking Harris’s inability to name even a single prominent figure. Suggestions for names she might have offered included Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, California Governor Gavin Newsom, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

The interview was part of Harris’s promotional tour for her upcoming book, 107 Days, which she says offers a behind-the-scenes look at her run for the presidency.

Kamala Confusion: Veep Has Trouble Defining Own Job! (VIDEO)

Battling persistently low approval ratings across party lines, Vice President Kamala Harris (D) appeared Wednesday on CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in the latest attempt to burnish her public image. But Harris stumbled badly when she seemed either unable or unwilling to define the vice president’s job.

During the awkward exchange, host Stephen Colbert asked Harris to explain “what is the actual role on a daily basis” of the vice president.

Harris avoided answering the question by praising President Joe Biden (D). “Well, I have the great privilege of serving with Joe Biden, who is president of the United States,” she said to thunderous applause from the studio audience.”Right! Right! Exactly right. Exactly right.”

She added: “And was vice president.” . . .

Despite another round of enthusiastic audience applause, Colbert didn’t let Harris off the hook: “That’s an excellent answer. And the question was, what is the job of the vice president?”

Rush Limbaugh: CBS ‘Declared War On The Heartland Of America’ (+audio)

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh is not happy with CBS’ hiring of comedian Stephen Colbert to replace David Letterman as host of “The Late Show.”

“CBS has just declared war on the heartland of America,” Limbaugh said on his radio show Thursday. “No longer is comedy going to be a covert assault on traditional American values [and] conservatives. Now, it’s just wide out in the open. What this hire means is a redefinition of what is funny and a redefinition of what is comedy.”

Rush Limbaugh Mocks NPR for Blaming Stephen Colbert’s Racist Tweet on HIM

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh taunted a National Public Radio host for defending liberal comedian Stephen Colbert’s racist tweet, accusing NPR of “circling the wagons” for Colbert by excusing the tweet as a parody of Limbaugh and other “ethnically stupid” conservatives.

Last week, Colbert courted controversy for a tweet sent out on his show’s official Twitter account, which many viewed as racist towards Asian-Americans:

The comedian distanced himself last week, blaming the Comedy Central staff of The Colbert Report (even though he said that exact line on his show). But a #CancelColbert hashtag quickly cropped up, forcing Colbert and the network into damage control mode.

“There was apparently this negative reaction the likes of which liberals are not used to,” Limbaugh described. “Apparently there was a huge blowback on this, and it caught them off guard, because they’re really not used to this kind of reaction of them being racist or sexist or bigoted or homophobic or what have you.”

Video: Stephen Colbert – Romney is Going to Win & Rachel Maddow is Normally Wrong

In this NBC Meet the Press Interview, Stephen Colbert, with his typical dry humor, has positive things to say about Republican nominee Mitt Romney. He gives him the edge and says he’s “on fire” and “on a rocket ride to plausible.”

Colbert then explains that he doesn’t watch the news that much, and that he doesn’t come into work until 6:30.

He suggests his preparation for his routine is simple: he just says the opposite of whatever Rachel Maddow said the night before.

Colbert says he’s “usually good” with that:
