Birtherism is now officially a legal issue, as the eligibility of Sen. Ted Cruz to run for president will have a hearing Friday in Chicago, according to multiple news outlets.
According to CNN and ABC, a Cook County Circuit Court judge will hear a lawsuit brought by an Illinois voter who says Mr. Cruz is not a natural-born citizen, as the Constitution requires, because he was born in Canada.
Mr. Cruz has never denied being born in Canada, but maintains that the issue is ridiculous because under longstanding U.S. statutory law, he was automatically a U.S. citizen at birth because his mother was a U.S. citizen . . .
[Lawrence] Joyce told WBBM radio that he supports Ben Carson and has not been in consultation with the campaign of Donald Trump, who has repeatedly said Mr. Cruz might not be eligible to take office.
Like Mr. Trump though, Mr. Joyce said his concern is that the eligibility issue lie unresolved during Republican primaries, thus letting the Democrats take advantage of it after a potential Cruz nomination, when it’d be too late. By Pamela Engel. The presidential campaign of US Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) fired back on Tuesday after Donald Trump called him “unstable” and threatened to sue him.
Cruz’s communications director, Rick Tyler, used a pun to dismiss Trump’s attacks.
“There is reason ‘Trumped up’ means phony,” Tyler told Business Insider in an email. “He should look hard in the mirror.”
The day before, Trump released a statement raging about Cruz’s supposedly “fraudulent” campaign actions.
He has accused Cruz of running robocalls saying that Trump was not going to run in the upcoming South Carolina primary. (Read more from “Ted Cruz’s Campaign Had a Snappy Response to Donald Trump’s Lawsuit Threat” HERE)

Gowdy Calls for Cruz to Denounce ‘Underhanded Tactics’
By Al Weaver. Trey Gowdy, a South Carolina congressman who supports Marco Rubio, called for Ted Cruz to repudiate the most recent bit of “underhanded tactics” ahead of the South Carolina primary.
“In the last week, we have seen a systematic effort by Sen. Cruz and his allies to spread false information and outright lies in the hopes of winning votes by appealing to our lowest common denominator,” Gowdy said. “Now, Its been reported that a fake Facebook page has been used to fool South Carolinians into thinking that I no longer support Marco Rubio and that I’m instead supporting Ted Cruz.
“Nothing could be further from the truth and I’m demanding that Sen. Cruz and his campaign repudiate these dishonest and underhanded tactics,” Gowdy continued. “We can have a debate about the future of our party and our country. But we need not leave our integrity behind.”
In the Facebook post at hand by a page titled “Trey Gowdy Prayers,” it says that the most recent debate “revealed [Rubio’s] total lack of integrity, intillect and foresight,” before switching the faux endorsement to Cruz.
It is official, I have changed my mind. My previous endorsement of Marco Rubio was a grave mistake. The recent South Carolina debate revealed his total lack of integrity, intillect and foresight,” the post reads. “To all my Christian and Conservative friends in South Carolina, I hereby formally endorse Ted Cruz for President of the United States.” (Read more from “Gowdy Calls for Cruz to Denounce ‘Underhanded Tactics'” HERE)

By Reuters. U.S. Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump blasted close rival Ted Cruz on Monday, threatening to file a lawsuit challenging his eligibility for the White House if the Texas senator does not take down his “false ads.”
The New York billionaire, whose campaign has long been littered with insults, called Cruz “totally unstable” and said he is “the single biggest liar I’ve ever come across, in politics or otherwise, and I have seen some of the best of them.”
Speaking at a news conference in South Carolina, Trump said he could “fight back” by bringing a lawsuit against Cruz over the fact that he was born in Canada, which Trump argues makes him ineligible to become president.
“If he doesn’t take down his false ads and retract his lies, I will do so immediately,” he said. (Read more from “Trump Is Threatening Cruz With This Major Lawsuit If Ted Doesn’t Remove ‘False Ads'” HERE)

Donald Trump: Ted Cruz Is ‘Unstable’
By Jeremy Diamond and Tom LoBianco. Donald Trump escalated his battle with Ted Cruz on Monday, calling the Texas senator “unstable,” threatening a lawsuit and urging the Republican National Committee to “intervene.”
“One of the ways I can fight back is to bring a lawsuit against him relative to the fact that he was born in Canada and therefore cannot be President,” Donald Trump said in a statement. “If he doesn’t take down his false ads and retract his lies, I will do so immediately. Additionally, the RNC should intervene and if they don’t they are in default of their pledge to me. ”
The billionaire businessman later held a press conference in which he said he “never ever met a person that lies more than Ted Cruz.”
Trump continued to heap criticism on Cruz in an interview with CNN’s Jim Sciutto Monday afternoon on “The Lead,” saying that with “guys like Ted Cruz — it’s all talk and no action.” (Read more from “Donald Trump: Ted Cruz Is ‘Unstable'” HERE)

By David Brody. In an exclusive interview with The Brody File down in South Carolina, GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz says his Christian faith guides his path but has a message for those who think his, “Jesus talk” is too much. “I’m not running to be ‘Pastor-In-Chief.’ It is not the calling of a political leader to deliver the salvation message. That is the calling of us as believers, it’s the calling of a pastor but it’s a different role to be a political leader.” However, Cruz is quick to point out that he is NOT ashamed of the Gospel. “I am a Christian and the Word says if you are ashamed of Jesus He will be ashamed of you. I don’t intend to have that conversation with my maker.”
Our interview took place Thursday afternoon in Spartanburg South Carolina. Cruz was in town to meet privately with pastors at an event sponsored by the American Renewal Project. Our CBN cameras were on hand for that meeting and you can check out The Brody File for clips from the meeting.

Cruz App Data Collection Helps Campaign Read Minds of Voters
By Michael Biesecker and Julie Bykowicz. Protecting the privacy of law-abiding citizens from the government is a pillar of Ted Cruz’s Republican presidential candidacy, but his campaign is testing the limits of siphoning personal data from supporters.
His “Cruz Crew” mobile app is designed to gather detailed information from its users’ phones — tracking their physical movements and mining the names and contact information for friends who might want nothing to do with his campaign.
That information and more is then fed into a vast database containing details about nearly every adult in the United States to build psychological profiles that target individual voters with uncanny accuracy. (Read more from “Cruz App Data Collection Helps Campaign Read Minds of Voters” HERE)

Amy Lindsay, the actress featured in films such as “Kinky Sex Club,” “Milf,” “Carnal Wishes” and “Sex Sent Me to the ER” stars in Sen. Ted Cruz ‘s latest campaign ad entitled “Conservatives Anonymous.”
“Maybe you should vote for more than just a pretty face next time,” Lindsay says in the ad.
Seconds before this story was published, the Cruz campaign removed the ad from YouTube . . .
Cruz’s campaign told The Daily Caller that it is removing and replacing the ad, and that it would not have included her in the ad had it known of her past.
“The actress responded to an open casting call,” Cruz campaign national press secretary Catherine Frazier told TheDC. “She passed her audition and got the job. Unfortunately, she was not vetted by the casting company. Had the campaign known of her full filmography, we obviously would not have let her appear in the ad. The campaign is taking the ad down and will replace it with a different commercial.” (Read more from “You’ll Never Guess Who Starred in One of Ted Cruz’s Most Recent (Now Removed) Campaign Ads” HERE)

The biggest attack on Ted Cruz lodged by his detractors is that he is loathed inside Washington, especially in the Senate. One often hears this refrain from mainstream media: We understand you are looking for an anti-establishment figure, but this man is absolutely detested by everyone. There must be something legitimate to this universal hatred for Cruz.
In reality there is no enigma as to why Cruz is so hated. There is a quintessential example from yesterday that perfectly demonstrates why he is held in such low esteem by his colleagues. Judge for yourself whether this is a good thing or a bad thing.
Despite being embroiled in the heat of the most important weeks of this presidential campaign, Cruz sent word to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that he was placing a hold on all State Department nominees until Obama comes clean on the Iran deal. Consequently, McConnell was obliged to block the unanimous consent request from Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) to confirm Obama’s choices for ambassadorships to Norway and Sweden. Cruz has placed a blockade on all State Department nominees and has been enforcing it throughout the past few months.
Now ask yourself this question: What do you think Sen. Klobuchar and her colleagues think of Ted Cruz?
We all know that every Republican runs as an intrepid conservative:
“I’m pro-life.”
“I’m for traditional marriage.”
“We need to secure the border.”
“Government is too large.”
“Isn’t the Iran deal terrible?”
These are the platitudes you will hear from every Republican. But with a belligerent Democrat Party that will fight to the death in defense of their positions on those issues, what good is it to “align” with the conservative side if you will not do what it takes to advance the cause?
Think of it this way: Is it possible for an intellectually conservative member to be liked by fellow senators? Of course. As long as he stays in the corner and keeps his conservatism to himself. He can even vote his conscience as long as it doesn’t alter the outcome. They might even allow him to hold some policy briefings and draft some white papers about reform conservatism. That is where the conservatism of most elected conservatives ends; but it’s where Ted Cruz’s begins. Cruz understood from day one that as a senator you are not just a vote but a voice for a cause and can use legitimate tools to leverage against harmful policies.
In the case of the Iran deal, Republicans passed the Corker-Cardin bill signing off on it and then declined to defund it in the budget bill. The only tool left in the Article I arsenal of Congress is to hold up confirmation of executive and judicial nominees. Unfortunately, the other senators refused to join Cruz in enforcing the blockade and extracting concessions from Obama after he violated the conditions of his own deal. And that’s the way they like it. Unlike Cruz, they want to be respected, smart, serious, and productive conservatives. “Productive” in the sense that their principles are never actually converted into action — at least not enough to derail liberal policies in a meaningful way.
A president doesn’t vote at all. A president is only a voice for a cause. Much like a senator has tools in his arsenal to protect the Constitution and play legislative hardball against the powers that be, a president can use his Article II leverage to defend the Constitution as well. A president’s personal views on the issues are meaningless if he is unwilling to play hardball using all legal channels to enact and defend his agenda.
There are those in the conservative intelligentsia who say they personally like Ted Cruz but desire a nominee who will push conservatism in a way that does not elicit such hatred from others in Washington. These people need to learn there is no such thing as lukewarm hell. Modern-day Democrats are not willing to compromise on anything. As such, the only way to move forward and restore our republic is with brute force, harnessing the power of the outside against the inside, not working with the insiders who got us into this mess in the first place.
Sadly, we’ve reached a point where congeniality works inversely with effectiveness. That is not the fault of Ted Cruz. It’s the fault of years of complacency from other conservatives who have legitimized anti-constitutional policies of the Democrat Party and emboldened them to take nothing less than a full loaf of bread. By Neetzan Zimmerman. Donald Trump is accusing Republican presidential rival Ted Cruz of committing fraud ahead of Monday night’s Iowa caucuses, and he is calling for a “new election.”
“Based on the fraud committed by Senator Ted Cruz during the Iowa Caucus, either a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified,” Trump tweeted on Wednesday.
During primetime of the Iowa Caucus, Cruz put out a release that @RealBenCarson was quitting the race, and to caucus (or vote) for Cruz.
Earlier in the day, the real estate mogul tweeted, then quickly deleted, a claim that Cruz didn’t earn a fair victory in Iowa, saying he “illegally stole it.”
“Ted Cruz didn’t win Iowa, he illegally stole it. That is why all of the polls were so wrong any [sic] why he got more votes than anticipated. Bad!” the GOP front-runner tweeted.

Donald Trump Tells Crowd in Arkansas, ‘I Think I Came in First’ in Iowa
By Katharine Q. Seelye. Donald J. Trump, back in fighting form, told a record crowd here Wednesday night that he believes he won the Iowa caucuses.
“Actually, I think I came in first,” he told a cheering crowd of more than 11,500 people who packed into Barton Coliseum to hear him.
Mr. Trump, who placed second in Iowa, was continuing a theme he had been unspooling over the previous 24 hours — that in his view, Senator Ted Cruz, who won Monday’s caucuses, had in fact stolen the election.
Mr. Cruz was declared the winner, with 27.6 percent of the vote; Mr. Trump came in second, with 24.3 percent. (Read more from “Donald Trump Tells Crowd in Arkansas, ‘I Think I Came in First’ in Iowa” HERE)

By Fox News. Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson on Tuesday pointedly accused Ted Cruz’s campaign of spreading false rumors during the Iowa caucuses claiming the retired neurosurgeon was suspending his bid, in a coordinated effort to seal Cruz’s victory Monday night.
The stunning charge came as a Carson spokesman declared, “There has never been a more tainted victory in the Iowa caucuses.”
Early reports that Carson – who was directly competing with Cruz for social conservative and evangelical supporters – was leaving the campaign trail started to surface as caucusing began Monday evening.
Upon hearing reports that their candidate was leaving the trail to return to his home in Florida, Team Carson responded swiftly, saying the retired neurosurgeon was only going home for clean clothes but was then headed to New Hampshire for the Feb. 9 primary. Trump Accuses Cruz of a “Dirty” Campaign
By Caitlin Yilek. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is calling rival Ted Cruz “dirty” for starting a rumor about Ben Carson’s campaign ending after the Iowa caucuses.

Cruz Campaign Apologizes to Carson
By Nolan D. McCaskill. Ted Cruz’s campaign on Tuesday apologized to Ben Carson for telling Iowans ahead of the caucuses that the retired neurosurgeon had suspended his campaign. . .
Carson had called on Cruz to fire anybody on his campaign involved in spreading the misinformation, which he maintained was announced at caucus precincts and in written correspondence.
“If Ted Cruz doesn’t know about this, then he clearly needs to very quickly get rid of some people in his organization,” Carson told “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday morning. “And if he does know about it, isn’t this the exact kind of thing that the American people are tired of? Why would we want to continue that kind of, you know, shenanigans?” (Read more from “Cruz Campaign Apologizes to Carson” HERE)

Ted Cruz Really, Really Wants to Win New Hampshire
By Philip Elliott. Want to know just how badly Ted Cruz wants to win New Hampshire’s primary? He quoted John McCain at a town hall-style meeting here on Tuesday.
A day after winning Iowa’s caucuses, Cruz was on the ground in New Hampshire doing his best to set aside his rivalry with McCain, a beloved figure in this state that has the next-up nominating contests next Tuesday. It was a subtle nod to New Hampshire tradition, but one where Cruz chose not to long linger.
Cruz and McCain have sustained a not-at-all-subtle feud in the Senate after the 2012 election. Cruz says McCain, the GOP’s 2008 presidential nominee, embodies the type of moderate Republican who has doomed the party to lose the White House in recent elections. McCain once called Cruz a “wacko bird” and finds Cruz’s approach to governing maddening. Indeed, he is hardly alone.
But McCain, who won New Hampshire’s 2000 and 2008 presidential primaries, remains a grandfatherly figure in the state and has a cache for having campaigned here hard and personally. Even Democrats show respect for McCain’s attention to New Hampshire and its highly prized first-in-the-nation primary. (Read more from “Ted Cruz Really, Really Wants to Win New Hampshire” HERE)

By Ryan Lizza. Ted Cruz’s Presidential campaign prides itself on being data-centric and on integrating insights from political science into its tactics. In 2008, academics at Yale published an influential paper showing that one of the most effective ways to get voters to the polls was “social pressure.” Researchers found that registered voters in a 2006 primary election in Michigan voted at a higher rate if they received mailers indicating that their participation in the election would be publicized. The mailer that had the biggest impact included information about the two previous elections and whether the recipient and his or her neighbors participated or not. “We intend to mail an updated chart,” the mailer warned. “You and your neighbors will all know who voted and who did not” . . .
After looking at several mailers posted online, I was more curious about how the Cruz campaign came up with its scores. On all the mailers I saw, every voter listed had only one of three possible scores: fifty-five per cent, sixty-five per cent, or seventy-five per cent, which translate to F, D, and C grades, respectively. Iowans take voting pretty seriously. Why was it that nobody had a higher grade?
In Iowa, although voter-registration information is free and available to the public, voter history is not. That information is maintained by the secretary of state, who licenses it to campaigns, super PACs, polling firms, and any other entity that might want it. So was the Cruz campaign accurately portraying the voter histories of Iowans? Or did it simply make up the numbers?
It seems to have made them up. Dave Peterson, a political scientist at Iowa State University who is well-acquainted with the research on “social pressure” turnout techniques, received a mailer last week. The Cruz campaign pegged his voting percentage at fifty-five per cent, which seems to be the most common score that the campaign gives out. (All of the neighbors listed on Peterson’s mailer also received a score of fifty-five per cent.) (Read more from “Something Major Was Just Revealed About Ted Cruz’s Iowa Mailers” HERE)

Donald Trump: ‘Ted Cruz Is a Total Liar’
By Jeremy Diamond. Donald Trump on Sunday repeatedly slammed his chief presidential rival Sen. Ted Cruz as a “total liar” as the Texas senator and his allies have claimed in the final stretch to the Iowa caucuses that Trump favors government-run, universal health care.
Cruz, meanwhile, pressed forward Sunday with the line of attack, proclaiming: “A vote for Donald Trump is a vote for Obamacare.”
“Look, Ted Cruz is a total liar. I am so against Obamacare. I’ve been saying it for two years in my speeches, I’m going to repeal and replace Obamacare,” Trump said on ABC’s “This Week.” “I don’t even know where he gets this.”
The back-and-forth comes as Trump has pulled ahead of Cruz in the final days of campaigning in Iowa, where Cruz had been surging until Trump began lobbing attacks at Cruz, most notably raising the issue of Cruz’s Canadian birthplace. (Read more from “Donald Trump: ‘Ted Cruz Is a Total Liar'” HERE)

By Fox News. Leading Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ted Cruz traded shots Sunday on the eve of the Iowa Caucus, hoping to persuade the remaining undecided voters in the first-in-the-nation voting.
Both candidates hammered on familiar points, with Trump again questioning Cruz’s citizenship and financial records. Cruz, meanwhile, asked whether Trump is indeed a conservative and suggested that his bluster covers his weakness on issues.
“He’s the height of chutzpah,” Cruz told “Fox News Sunday.” “It’s astonishing. He’s not honest.”
The Texas senator trails the front-running Trump by 5 percentage points, 28-to-23, with the caucus on Monday, according to a Des Moines (Iowa) Register poll released Saturday . . .
With Cruz and Trump essentially battling for the social conservative vote to win Iowa, Cruz told Fox News that he’s “thrilled” to be in second place, despite having led Trump in Iowa just a few weeks earlier. (Read more from “Trump, Cruz Trade Shots on Eve of Iowa Caucus” HERE)

Cruz: ‘A Vote for Marco Rubio Is a Vote for Amnesty’
By Curt Mills. Republican presidential candidate Texas Sen. Ted Cruz ratcheted up his rhetoric Sunday against Sen. Marco Rubio, claiming a vote for his primary rival is tantamount to support for amnesty for undocumented immigrants.
“A vote for Marco is a vote for amnesty,” Cruz said on “Fox News Sunday.”
Cruz in a tight race with the Florida senator and frontrunner Donald Trump for the conservative vote and ultimately the party nomination also said “This race is a simple choice. A vote for Marco Rubio is a vote for amnesty. And a vote for Donald Trump is a vote for ObamaCare. The reason conservatives are uniting behind our campaign is because I am the only candidate in the race who has been a consistent conservative.”
Cruz has hit Rubio for months on the issue, saying he sided with Senate Democrats on comprehensive immigration reform legislation.
Rubio originally supported the bill, then essentially distanced himself from the measure when conservatives did not support it. (Read more from “Cruz: ‘A Vote for Marco Rubio Is a Vote for Amnesty'” HERE)
