WATCH: Troopers Block Protesters at TN State Capitol Ahead of Vote to Expel Dems

Protesters stormed the Tennessee state capitol in Nashville on Thursday ahead of a vote to expel three Democrat lawmakers accused of leading a gun control protest on the House floor last week, disrupting the session.

In video captured by Odessa Kelly, Tennessee Highway Patrol officers can be seen holding the line against an angry crowd, blocking the entrance to a stairway.

Protesters Storm Tennessee Capitol Demanding Gun Control (VIDEO)

A group of around 400 people rushed into the Tennessee state capitol building in Nashville on Thursday morning to protest for stricter gun laws following the mass shooting at the Covenant School earlier this week.

Around 500 protesters gathered at 8:00 a.m. local time before a large group of them moved into the capitol building carrying signs and shouting, “No action, no peace!” and “What do we want? Gun control! When do we want it? Now!”

Footage from inside the state capitol showed at least six Tennessee state troopers holding back a crowd of angry protesters as they attempted to reach lawmakers.

A Tennessee nonprofit called AWAKE planned the protest. The group seeks to improve conditions for women and children, according to The New York Post.

“We have collaborated with community organizations and individual citizens to organize a rally at the State Capitol Thursday morning. If you are looking for a way to channel your grief, anger, and confusion into action- please join us,” WAKE wrote in a social media post earlier this week.

Disturbed Journalists Mock Prayer, Drag Show Ban After Christian School Massacre

After a shooter killed three children and three staff members at a private Christian grade school in Nashville, Tennessee, on Monday, some journalists, columnists, entertainers and activists turned their ire onto Christians and conservatives for banning drag shows for kids.

Left-wing sports writer Mike Wise seemed to agree with a tweet that sympathized with the transgender shooter, Audrey Hale, 28, whom police say attended the school as a child, for being a victim of “intolerant … brainwashing” through “religious indoctrination.” . . .

“I don’t condone Audrey Hale’s actions, though I understand their outrage against an intolerant state that brainwashes children through religious indoctrination. The reality is this human still identified as that child attending that school and carried that pain into adulthood,” a Twitter user named Kat Amarco wrote. . .

Progressive talk show host David Pakman mocked the Christian school for not “praying enough.”

“Very surprising that there would be a mass shooting at a Christian school, given that lack of prayer is often blamed for these horrible events. Is it possible they weren’t praying enough, or correctly, despite being a Christian school?” he asked in a since-deleted tweet. Tennessee Enacts Law Restricting Drag Shows as Red States Mull Copycat Bills

Gov. Bill Lee (R-TN) signed a bill into law Thursday that criminalizes drag show performances in certain public places or anywhere they could be viewed by children.

The drag ban, known as Senate Bill 3, bans “adult cabaret performances” within 1,000 feet of schools, houses of worship, or public parks. The decision came shortly after Lee signed a bill prohibiting minors from accessing gender transition surgeries and hormone therapy.

When SB 3 goes into effect on July 1, first-time violators may be charged with a Class A misdemeanor that is punishable by a $2,500 fine and up to a year in jail. Any future offenses will constitute a Class E felony and carry a maximum six-year prison sentence.

The Tennessee measure was passed with the help of Republican supermajorities in both the state House and the Senate. It comes as nearly a dozen other similar bills are presently working their way through GOP-led state legislatures.

Republican proponents of such measures say that without them, children can be exposed to sexual themes and images.

Tennessee Legislature Passes Bill to Ban Drag Shows in Front of Kids

Tennessee lawmakers passed a bill that would prevent drag shows from taking place on public property or in front of children.

The bill classifies “male and female impersonators” as adult cabaret performers, while also banning “adult-oriented performances that are harmful to minors.” The legislation, SB3, now makes its way to Republican Gov. Bill Lee’s office.

State Rep. Chris Todd, R-Madison County, filed the bill, saying “this is a common sense child-safety bill.” The bill, which passed by a vote of 79 to 19, makes it illegal to host an “adult cabaret performance” in a location where children are present. The legislation, which was proposed by Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson also bans adult cabaret performances on public property.

Cabaret performers are defined as “topless dancers, go-go dancers, exotic dancers, strippers, [and] male or female impersonators who provide entertainment that appeals to a prurient interest.”

Early Voters in Tennessee Get Wrong Ballot

A voting mix-up in Davidson County, Tennessee, caused 438 voters to cast their votes in the wrong races when they were given incorrect ballots Sunday.

The mistake was because of a “district misassignment,” according to county officials, who then released a list of people affected by the mix-up. They must go to the Davidson County Elections Commission Office to vote in the midterms on Tuesday, reported WSMV4 TV station.

In an interview, Fox 17 News reporter Payton Muse asked election officials in Davidson County how they were ensuring voters would not be deterred from going to the polls, considering there was already a voting mistake.

“I think our message is we have worked endless hours to check people’s precincts to make sure that they would have access to the correct ballot, before they show up on Tuesday,” Jeff Roberts with Davidson County Elections said. (Read more from “Early Voters in Tennessee Get Wrong Ballot” HERE)

90-Year-Old Woman Fights off Large Bear Using Lawn Chair

An elderly Tennessee woman fought off a bear Wednesday with a lawn chair as her only weapon.

Altha Williams, 90, was attacked by a black bear on her front porch, according to a report.

The bear was with three cubs, she said. . .

The animal’s “face was right in my face,” she continued. “I was just sitting here, hadn’t been here more than two or three minutes. Evidently, it heard me.”

Williams, whose house is near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, used her lawn chair to fend off the bear, she said. (Read more from “90-Year-Old Woman Fights off Large Bear Using Lawn Chair” HERE)

DRUG CRISIS: Sheriff Warns Against Picking Up Folded Up Cash In The Street. Here’s Why

A Sheriff’s office in Tennessee is warning the public against picking up folded dollar bills because of possible fentanyl and methamphetamine exposure.

The Giles County Sheriff’s Department saw two incidents where a folded dollar bill was discovered on a local gas station floor that had a white powder inside that was later found to be fentanyl and methamphetamine, the office announced Thursday.

“This is very dangerous issue! Please share and educate your children to not pick up any folded money they may find in or around businesses, playgrounds etc., without using great caution and even alerting a parent or guardian,” the announcement said.

78-Year-Old Woman Robbed While Praying in Church

Authorities in Tennessee are looking for a group of women who robbed a 78-year-old woman while she prayed in church.

Clarksville police said the theft of property happened Feb. 9 around 6 p.m. local time inside the sanctuary at Hilldale Baptist Church.

Officers said the elderly woman was praying when two women approached her, asking for prayers as well. While they were praying, a second woman went into the victim’s purse and stole credit cards, gift cards and cash. Investigators said the thieves then tried to use the credit cards at Sam’s Club and Kroger shortly after.

Surveillance video captured the incident and the suspected thieves at the Sam’s Club.

Senior Pastor Larry Robertson told FOX Television Stations that the women came to church 50 minutes before evening service, which he thought was a little odd. The women told him that there were visiting from another church. He then pointed them to the sanctuary where a pre-service prayer meeting was going to start in about 20 minutes. Jewish Couple Sues to Stop Tennessee Christians From Helping With Adoptions

Elizabeth and Gabriel Rutan-Ram are suing the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, but their real beef is with the Holston United Methodist Home for Children. The Knoxville couple, who are Jewish, wished to adopt a boy from Florida, but part of the adoption process involved them taking a state-approved family training course.

According to the lawsuit they filed in state court, they reached out to Holston United because it was the only government-approved agency that could provide them the services they needed. But after initially thinking the home would work with them, they were told that the Methodist group’s core religious principles forbid it from placing children in non-Christian homes. . .

But if they win their case, it will be a blow to religious freedom rather than a triumph for it.

The goal of the lawsuit is to overturn legislation signed into law by Gov. Bill Lee in January 2020 that explicitly permits religious adoption agencies to decline to be involved in cases that “would violate the agency’s written religious or moral convictions or policies.” The Rutan-Rams’ lawyers — backed by the American Civil Liberties Union — contend the law violates both the Tennessee Constitution and the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees freedom of religion.
