Mark Steyn: Michele Bachmann ‘Could Have Been America’s Mrs. Thatcher’

Filling in Rush Limbaugh on his radio show Wednesday, National Review columnist Mark Steyn defended Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann, who announced earlier in the day she will not seek re-election in 2014.

Steyn explained he would always have a soft spot in his heart for Bachmann because she touted his 2008 book “America Alone” in a speech. He also said she significantly contributed to race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

“I was saddened by this for a couple of reasons — one, I thought actually Michele Bachmann was a great addition to the presidential campaign and the debates above anything else got extremely boring once she was off the panels,” Steyn said. “But the other thing I like about her is she took a ton of — she’s like a lot of successful Republican women — she took a ton of heat about everything, because there’s something about successful Republican women that so-called liberal feminists seem to absolutely loathe, and they hammered Michele Bachmann. She was portrayed as crazy.”

Snubbing Thatcher's Funeral? No, Obama Is Consistent!

Is President Obama snubbing Lady Thatcher’s funeral in London? No, he’s simply being consistent. Mrs. Thatcher was a great defender of democracy. Mr. Obama is not.

Mr. Obama went to London in 2009. There, he bowed to that desert despot, Saudi King Abdullah. It was Abdullah who refused in 1998 to give the U.S. access to Madani al Tayyib, the financial kingpin of al-Qaeda. So, of course, Mr. Obama would bow to Abdullah.

Back home, the new president tossed a bust of Winston Churchill out into the snow. The brave champion of freedom who resisted Hitler’s “Nozzies” triumphed over tyranny.

Mr. Obama extends his hand to tyrants.

And, after all, he did give an iPod with recordings of all his speeches to Britain’s Queen. It was a most thoughtful gift — just in case Her Majesty was having trouble with insomnia.

Obama Snubs Conservative Lady Thatcher's Funeral, But Sent Delegation to Socialist Chavez's Funeral

One might argue that this is something to do with an incumbent versus a former leader. Others have argued that it is just another in a long-line of snubs from Obama to Britain.

Whichever you believe (you could believe either, I suppose), there are questions to be answered as to why US President Barack Obama chose to send a current administration delegation to the funeral of the now dead socialist revolutionary Hugo Chavez, and only a couple of former Republican Secretaries of State (James Baker and George Shultz) to the funeral of one of recent history’s most fierce and Americophilic freedom fighters, Lady Thatcher.

In fact, talk in London tell us that the British are not happy. “Friends and allies of Baroness Thatcher expressed ‘surprise and disappointment’ last night as it emerged President Obama is not planning to send any serving member of his administration to her funeral,” reports the Daily Mail. The Sun called it a “snub,” and said that “Downing Street is most angered by rejections from Obama, First Lady Michelle and Vice-President Joe Biden. And none of the four surviving ex-US leaders – Jimmy Carter, George Bush Sr, Bill Clinton and George Bush Jr. – is coming either.”

Politico, Washington Post Carry Fabricated Stories About Palin in Wake of Thatcher's Death

Mainstream media publications immediately exploited the passing of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on Monday to again advance their political agendas by falsely smearing former Alaska Gov. and Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

In a rush to write whatever they could to tarnish both, outlets like Politico and the Washington Post resorted to “reporting” on a fictitious story and an imaginary trip that have already been debunked years ago.

The Post, a publication known for its liberal agenda, immediately “re-upped” the debunked story about Thatcher having snubbed Palin when Chris Cillizza, the editor of “The Fix,” allowed his underling to publish parts of the disproven 2011 report.

Politico ironically included the story in its article about Thatcher as well, even though the publication debunked the story two years ago.

In 2011, a left-wing and anti-Thatcher British newspaper, the Guardian, tried to smear Palin by writing a fictitious story, with an anonymous quote, about how Thatcher supposedly snubbed Palin for a meeting that had never even been scheduled, as both camps immediately confirmed. The British newspaper also claimed a Thatcher adviser called Palin “nuts.”

Another Pedophile Ring Involving Top Political Leader Alleged

Yet another allegation of a pedophile ring involving a top political leader was made, this time in England. Allegedly, one of the top conservatives in the Tory Party, closely linked to Thatcher, was involved in the violent rapes of young boys over a number of years. This allegation follows the recent reports about the current Dutch Minister of Justice — defended by the US State Department — who ostensibly was involved in an international child sex ring, as well as similar allegations made about top political officials in the United States in the 1990’s. Additionally, the new head of the New York Times allegedly covered for another child rapist who worked for the BBC years before.

Regarding the Tory politician, the Daily Mail reports:

BBC’s Newsnight has sensationally claimed that a ‘leading politician from the Thatcher years’ was embroiled in a widespread paedophile ring – and repeatedly raped boys from a children’s home.

Alleged victim Steven Messham told reporters he was raped ‘more than a dozen times’ by the man, described on the programme as a ‘shadowy figure of high public standing’.

But despite a string of damning allegations, Newsnight reporters said it didn’t have ‘enough evidence’ to name the politician, sparking angry claims on Twitter that the Beeb ‘bottled it’.

The revelation came just hours after MPs suggested the Corporation aired the controversial programme to act as a ‘smokescreen’ after it failed to broadcast allegations that Jimmy Savile was a paedophile last year.

Mr Messham, now 49, was one of hundreds of children horrifically abused in children’s homes in North Wales during the 1970s and 1980s
