Should laws be passed that cut parents out of the decision-making process for teens and vaccines?

Yes, if you’re the Los Angeles Times Editorial Board, which supports California Senate Bill 866, innocuously entitled “Minors: Vaccine Consent,” which could come up for a vote in the legislature anytime in the next week. Its recent editorial argued that “California teenagers should have the right to protect their health by receiving approved vaccines without parental consent or knowledge.”

To that unprecedented and controversial claim, I say without hesitation, “No!”

This is not an issue of parents versus children. We all recognize that teens are still developing and are still immature. Science has shown that their brains are still developing. We still consider them to be minors because they still need the influence and wisdom of loving parents. After all, we don’t let minors use tobacco, vape, or vote. So, the question is really: Who will help guide and protect minor children—government bureaucrats or parents?

The L.A. Times Editorial Board implies parents cannot be trusted. They advocate for minors to consent to vaccinations to protect from what they describe as “vaccine misinformation” from parents. But here’s the problem: The L.A. Times Editorial Board wants government bureaucrats to be influencing kids. Parents can’t be trusted, but government bureaucrats can—at least in the eyes of the L.A. Disgusting: Activist Throws Menstrual Blood on Lawmakers Amid Protest Over State’s New Vaccination Laws

The California state Senate was evacuated on Friday, after a protestor in the chamber threw a red liquid — reportedly menstrual blood — onto several lawmakers. The identity of the alleged perpetrator has not been released, but the incident occurred while hundreds of protestors descended on Sacramento to demonstrate against new laws cracking down on vaccine exemptions.

Protestors were reportedly watching the Senate from the upstairs balcony when a woman threw the liquid while yelling at lawmakers. Sen. Scott Weiner (D) wrote on Twitter, “A few minutes ago, the anti-vaxxer stalkers — who’ve engaged in harassment campaign all week — dropped a red substance onto the Senate floor from the elevated public gallery, dousing several of my colleagues. The person who committed this assault screamed it was baby blood.”

Weiner added, “These anti-vaxxers are engaging in criminal behavior. They’ve now repeatedly assaulted Senators & are engaging in harassing & intimidating behavior every single day, as we try to do the people’s work. They’re a cancer on the body politic & are attacking democracy.”

The Sacramento Bee quoted Sen. Steve Glazer (D) as tweeting out, “Senators Galgiani, Hurtado, Skinner, Mitchell, Rubio and me were all hit by red liquid thrown from the Senate gallery. I’m told the person has been arrested. Senate in recess.”

The Senate chambers were evacuated to allow law enforcement to investigate. The California Highway Patrol told Politico the substance was menstrual blood, which was what the activist claimed. Is There an Anti-Vaccine Shadow Network?

In the wake of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. telling reporters that President Trump asked him to chair a commission on vaccine safety and scientific integrity, the media is angling to shame and ridicule vaccine safety and informed consent proponents, be they physicians, scientists or parents with the ability to read and think for themselves.

Although Kennedy’s appointment has not been confirmed yet by the Trump administration, The Atlantic has gone so far as to suggest that a “shadow network of anti-vax doctors” is being emboldened by questions and concerns the new president has voiced about vaccine safety.

Like Kennedy and many other critics of vaccine science and policy, President Trump has been outspoken about his suspicions that vaccines and vaccine policies may not be nearly as safe as they’re portrayed, and that the science is far from settled.

Meanwhile, Kennedy recently co-wrote an article in which he released documents revealing that officials at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) “knew that infant vaccines were exposing American children to mercury far in excess of all federal safety guidelines since 1999.”

Recent reports also reveal that medical treatment guidelines are frequently influenced by drug industry ties, and scientific “citation cartels” are gaming the system by repeatedly citing each other’s work, thereby making their studies appear more noteworthy and establishing what amounts to a false base of research that becomes difficult to overturn by independent researchers. Tyranny: California Poised to Mandate Vaccines, Eliminate ALL Parental, Religious Objections

By Sarah Kaplan. Months after a virulent measles outbreak spread from one Disneyland visitor to more than 100 California residents, the state that’s been described as an “anti-vaccination hotbed” is poised to pass one of the nation’s toughest laws requiring immunizations.

The bill approved by the California assembly Thursday strikes down the state’s personal belief exemption, which allows parents to opt their children out of vaccinations for religious reasons. Under the new rules, only children with serious health problems (such as a compromised immune system) would be exempt from mandatory vaccination schedules, and those who opt out will have to be homeschooled.

The legislation now goes to California Gov. Jerry Brown (D). According to the Los Angeles Times, it’s unclear if Brown will sign it.

“The governor believes that vaccinations are profoundly important and a major public health benefit, and any bill that reaches his desk will be closely considered,” Evan Westrup, Brown’s spokesperson, told the Times Thursday.

If the bill becomes law, California will become only the third state in the country to deny exemptions based on religious convictions. The other two are Mississippi and West Virginia.
