Maryland Refused to Give Back a Virginia Runaway Because Her Parents ‘Misgendered’ Her. Then She Was Sex Trafficked; Legislation Proposed to Fix This Insanity

By Daily Wire. A 14-year-old transgender runaway from Virginia endured a six-month nightmare that saw her twice fall into the hands of sex traffickers, the second time after Baltimore bureaucrats refused to return her to her home state because they accused her adoptive parents of “misgendering” her, according to records reviewed by The Daily Wire.

The child, identified in legal documents as Sage, was adopted by her biological grandmother, Michele Blair, after the death of her father. Long troubled, Sage began identifying as a male named “Draco” and ran away from their rural home in late August of 2021, only to end up on the mean streets of Baltimore, where authorities rescued her from a convicted sex offender, according to records. But instead of returning the child to her grandmother, Maryland officials put her in an inner-city group home. The reason: They thought her adoptive, blood-relative parents didn’t seem to sufficiently recognize her transgender identity.

“It is not possible to return the child to that home,” Judge Robert B. Kershaw wrote on Sept. 3, 2021, after an impassioned plea from Baltimore Assistant Public Defender Aneesa Khan.

Instead, the judge turned Sage over to the Baltimore City Department of Juvenile Services “for placement in a hardware secure therapeutic facility which makes reasonable accommodation for Respondent’s expressed male gender and desire to live as a trans male.” That meant housing the girl just rescued from a sex offender with some of Baltimore’s most troubled biological males.

“[Sage] has committed no juvenile offense in Maryland, is not a Maryland resident, and has no connections to Maryland… If he is located in another State there is no legal authority to return him to Maryland, much less for Maryland to assert legal custody over him.”

Del. Dave LaRock Files “Sage’s Law,” HB 2432, to Protect Parental Rights and At-Risk Children in Virginia

By Royal Examiner. Sage’s Law seeks to address several failures of the government that were experienced first-hand by a Virginia teenager and her parents over the past year. Michele Blair, the mother of the bill’s namesake, shared her story of being intentionally kept in the dark about her daughter’s gender struggles while at school by both teachers and counselors, which led to Sage being bullied, assaulted, sex-trafficked, and then kept from returning to her parents after she was rescued because of unfounded claims of child abuse. Sage’s story is heartbreaking and compelling.

“Virginia law needs to be absolutely clear that affirming a child’s biological sex does not justify taking a child away from their family. Subjective determinations of whether a family’s beliefs are “abuse and neglect” are unacceptable. Teachers, school counselors, social service workers, and courts must respect the parent’s fundamental rights in the parent-child relationship by involving parents immediately when a child is experiencing serious challenges. The horrific treatment of Sage Blair has shown the need to provide protections for parents and children in Virginia.,” said Delegate Dave LaRock. (Read more from “Del. Sage’s Law

By PJ Media. Back in the summer of 2021, Virginia’s Appomattox County High School decided to hide the fact that a teenage girl named Sage identified as a boy from her parents. According to a piece on The Federalist, that decision resulted in a chain of horrific events that not only sent Sage through a terrible ride through the state’s juvenile justice system but left her at the hands of sexual predators two times.

The Federalist recounts how Sage was adopted by her grandmother Michele after Michele’s son, Sage’s father, died. Sage struggled with problems from the loss of her father. She received medical and mental health treatments, and the schools had always informed Michele if there were any issues.

When Sage began coping with gender dysphoria, she began wearing boys’ clothes and identified as a boy while at school using a male name and pronouns. She was lonely and bullied and wanted to find a place to fit in. No one informed her parents, and a school counselor told her that she could use the boys’ bathroom. The boys in the school followed her around, touching and threatening her with a knife and rape. At one point she was slammed up against a wall. The school had concerns and contacted Michele without disclosing Sage’s gender dysphoria. Sage ran away and was located nine days later in Maryland, having been sexually assaulted. She had been kidnapped and taken there. Transgender children are often the target of predators, and some sites that were recommended to her by a school counselor led to pornography and older men.

Michele traveled to Maryland, where her daughter was being held in juvenile detention. They saw Sage via video screen and the pair told each other they loved one another. Despite this, Sage’s court-appointed attorney, Aneesa Khan, told the court that Sage did not want to come home because Michele and her husband Roger had abused her due to her new gender. Sage said that Khan told her to say that her parents hit and starved her so that Khan could win the case and Sage could be placed in a foster home that would affirm her gender.

Judge Robert Kershaw moved Sage from solitary confinement to a children’s home, where she was housed with the boys and frequently assaulted. During this time, Sage continued to see Kershaw for hearings and Khan had school counselors testify against Michele and Roger. Khan even told Sage the lie that her parents did not want her anymore because she was transgender. Sage never received any of the cards and letters that her mother sent her. Sage skipped school while at the home and smoked marijuana. Khan said that she didn’t care if Sage did drugs, so long as she won the case. Khan also contacted one of Sage’s Maryland school friends to help her contact Sage, and Sage’s case became known in her school. (Read more from “Sage’s Law” HERE)

Why a Judge Removed a Woke Virginia DA From Another Case

Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney Buta Biberaj got booted from another case in Virginia. If that name doesn’t sound familiar—it’s because she’s the woke district attorney who reportedly doesn’t like jailing anyone, including domestic abusers. Her staffers don’t like Trump, white people, or conservatives. These revelations aren’t shocking, but this isn’t the first time her office has been asked to remove itself. We’ll circle back to the initial case that exposed Biberaj’s office as a lefty woke circus. For now, this one involves the student who was sexually assaulted in a bathroom in May of 2021.

The attacker was a teenage male who was initially reported as gender fluid, as he reportedly wore a skirt on the day of the assault. The student was not immediately held accountable. He was allowed to attend a different school, where he committed another sexual assault, with allegations that the school board was trying to bury this sexual assault. The student was later found guilty of both attacks.

The father of the bathroom assault victim, Scott Smith, was caught being dragged out of a school board meeting last year, which became a focal point for the 2021 Virginia gubernatorial election. Mr. Smith was enraged that the school administration did nothing to ensure his daughter’s safety and the rest of the district’s student body—they had a sexual predator on the loose. He was charged and convicted of obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct; the former charge was dismissed, but Mr. Smith is appealing the latter. Judge James Plowman then decided that Biberaj’s office lacked the impartial capacity to proceed in this matter (via Fox News):

A Virginia judge has booted liberal Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney Buta Biberaj from an appeal case citing “concerns” over “impartiality.” The case involves a Virginia father who was arrested last year while speaking out at a school board meeting after his daughter was sexually assaulted in a public school bathroom by a male student.

“All that Scott Smith and his family have ever asked for is that the Loudoun County school system protect their daughter and treat them fairly; it has not,” Bill Stanley, the attorney for Virginia father Scott Smith, said in a press release Monday provided to Fox News Digital.

Dark Horse Republican 2024 Candidate Surging in Popularity and Approval

Virginians haven’t been very kind to their governors over the past decade, but Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin appears to be winning them over — and at quite a pace.

The former businessman who edged aside former Gov. Terry McAuliffe with unexpected ease in last fall’s election has surged to a 55% approval rating in the just-released Roanoke College poll.

What’s more, Youngkin has a favorable/unfavorable rating of 51%-37%, which is also rare positive territory for a commonwealth governor.

“For the first time in our poll, a majority (51%) of Virginians have a favorable view of Governor Youngkin, while 37% continue to have an unfavorable view. Again, that increase comes mostly from Republican feelings, but his rating is up slightly among Democrats and independents as well,” read the survey analysis.

While only in office for eight months, a search of past surveys found that former Gov. Ralph Northam only once saw his approval rating over 53% and favorability over 48% during his four-year term. At about this stage of his four-year term in 2014, McAuliffe had a 48% job approval rating. (Read more from “Dark Horse Republican 2024 Candidate Surging in Popularity and Approval” HERE)

Ex-School Official Sues School Board Over Anti-Racism Training

A former assistant principal is suing a Virginia school board, claiming that she was forced out of her job for a “slip of the tongue” during a mandatory “anti-racism” training based on Critical Race Theory.

Emily Mais, who was the assistant principal at Agnor-Hurt Elementary School, accused the school district in a lawsuit filed Thursday of pushing her out in fall 2021 after she mistakenly used the words “colored people” as she railed against the training session.

Though Mais apologized for the “slip of the tongue, ”a teacher’s aide, who is black, verbally attacked her in front of all training attendees, the lawsuit filed in Albemarle County claims.

The aide accused her of “speaking like old racists who told people of color to go to the back of the bus,” the complaint claims.

Following that training, Mais said that multiple colleagues told her that the teacher’s aide and her friends were openly calling her vulgar names at work, including ‘that white racist b—-h” and “that two-faced racist b—-h” (Read more from “Ex-School Official Sues School Board Over Anti-Racism Training” HERE)

Private School Forces 2-Year-Olds To Mask During Nap Time

A private school with two locations in northern Virginia is forcing students 2 years and older to wear masks for the entire school day, including during nap time, a parent with twins in the school told the Daily Caller.

Halston Davis, a father with twin boys enrolled at Karter Schools, told the Daily Caller that his 3-year-old preemies are required to wear face coverings for the duration of the school day, despite an executive order from Republican Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin repealing mask mandates in all schools. Davis alleges the school’s marketing director told his family masks were not required for the entirety of in-classroom learning when initially interviewing with the school.

Davis said he feels his boys are “falling behind” because “seeing other people talk is important for their development.” Davis and his wife attended an in-person meeting with Karter Schools’ leadership and claimed they asked for “flexibility” when masking their children “during instruction.” The school allegedly denied their request.

Karter Schools requires staff, students and parents to wear masks on school property regardless of vaccination status, according to COVID-19 FAQs sent to parents. Children were also required to present a negative test before returning to school if they traveled following winter break, per the FAQ form. Shock: Judge *Reverses* Decision to Place Loudoun County Schoolboy Guilty of ‘Forcible Sodomy’ on Sex Offender List

A Virginia judge has reversed her decision to place the skirt-wearing schoolboy who was found guilty of “forcible sodomy” in a girls’ bathroom in a Loudoun County school on the sex offender registry.

The 15-year-old boy who was convicted of sexually assaulting female classmates at two separate high schools — Stone Bridge High School and Broad Run High School — will no longer have to register as a sex offender, according to a report by WTOP News.

Judge Pamela Brooks had initially ordered the teen be placed on probation, placed in a juvenile rehabilitation center until he turned 18, as well as added to the adult sex offender registry.

Now, the boy will instead remain on supervised probation in a locked juvenile treatment facility until his 18th birthday.

Defense attorneys reportedly argued that prosecutors failed to provide a written motion that they would seek to have the Loudoun County boy placed on the sex offender registry before the judge made her initial ruling. Dear Diary: CNN’s Acosta Says Virginia Under Youngkin ‘a Soviet-Style Police State’

CNN “Democracy in Peril” host Jim Acosta on Tuesday reacted to Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) setting up a tip line for parents to report the teaching of “inherently divisive” rhetoric such as Critical Race Theory.

Acosta noted that the GOP had recently been engaging in a culture war, which he warned “could be weakening our democracy.” He argued Youngkin went from “campaigning in a fleece vest” to running “a Soviet-style police state.” . . .

“You know, I seem to remember Glenn Youngkin campaigning in a fleece vest in Virginia. He was running as a different kind of Republican. I was told there was going to be a vest — not a Soviet-style police state across the Potomac from Washington,” he added. Jen Psaki Slammed for Cheering on Schools to Ignore Republican Governor, Parents Over Masks (VIDEO)

White House press secretary Jen Psaki was criticized Sunday on Twitter for cheering on schools that plan to ignore Republican Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s executive order allowing parents to decide whether or not their children wear masks in schools.

Psaki shared a video on Twitter of Youngkin responding to a question about the executive order after the Arlington Public School district said it would maintain a mask requirement for students and staff. Psaki reacted to the video, saying in part, “Thank you to @APSVirginia for standing up for our kids, teachers, and administrators and their safety in the midst of a transmissible variant.”

Her comments drew the ire of many political commentators on Twitter.

Mollie Hemingway, senior editor at The Federalist, tweeted, “Jen, if for some reason you want to mask your children, you are still free to do so. This isn’t a ban on masks, this is a ban on *forced masking* of children against other parents’ wishes.”

Virginia Governor Signs 11 Executive Orders During First Day in Office

Republican Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin got straight to work Saturday, issuing 11 executive orders within hours of his inauguration.

Several of the orders were aimed at the issues within Virginia schools that gave him the edge over Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe in the waning days of the election.

“It’s Day One, and we are going to work just like we promised,” said Youngkin in a press release, directing an end to “the use of divisive concepts, including Critical Race Theory, in public education” with his first executive order. He further made good on his promise to parents with his second order by “empowering [them] in their children’s education and upbringing by allowing them to make decisions on whether their child wears a mask in school.”

“In Virginia, it is clear under law that parents have a fundamental right to make decisions for their children’s upbringing, their education and their care … we’re providing them the ability to make the right decision for their child with regards to their child’s well-being,” Youngkin told Fox News’ John Roberts on Sunday in his first official interview as Governor.

Youngkin continued to make good on his campaign promises by vowing, with his fourth order, to investigate the recent sexual assault case in Loudoun County. (Read more from “Virginia Governor Signs 11 Executive Orders During First Day in Office” HERE)

School Board Reinstates Teacher Who Won’t Use Kids’ Preferred Pronouns

A Virginia school district has agreed to permanently reinstate a physical education teacher who had been suspended for refusing to refer to transgender students by their preferred pronouns.

“Just today, the court issued a final order permanently prohibiting the Loudoun County Public School Board from punishing me for freely expressing my views,” Byron “Tanner” Cross told reporters after the settlement Monday, Fox News reported.

“I can now confidently continue teaching at Leesburg Elementary School without fear of punishment for expressing my views,” he added.

In June, the district said it would appeal a judge’s decision to reinstate Cross and take the fight to the state’s Supreme Court after federal Judge James Plowman ruled that the Leesburg Elementary School gym teacher could go back to work.

Cross, an outspoken Christian, had sparked outrage at a school meeting on May 25, when he spoke out against proposed Policy 8040 and wouldn’t affirm that a “biological boy can be a girl and vice versa” and was later suspended from the job.
