Remember Barack Obama telling his followers to always “bring a gun to a knife fight”? Like good subjects do, his supporters in Texas obeyed. Friday, Texas Gov. Rick Perry was indicted on two counts of abuse of power.

This ridiculous politically motivated “indictment” of Governor Rick Perry stems from the ugly thug tactics of the “politics of personal destruction” that the left is known for. They draw blood and leave scars on conservatives who threaten their political power, hoping the threat retreats and hoping his or her base of support remains silent in fear of becoming collateral damage.

Thankfully, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and those of us with scars to prove it can help others learn from things like this Texas-sized political drama.

This ridiculous politically motivated “indictment” of Governor Rick Perry stems from the ugly thug tactics of the “politics of personal destruction” that the left is known for.

First and foremost, today’s liberals have no shame. Case in point: Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg.

Perry blasts felony indictment as ‘outrageous’

A defiant Rick Perry went on the offensive Saturday, a day after being indicted on accusations of abusing his power with a controversial veto, denouncing the charges as “outrageous” political theatrics and predicting he will prevail over “those who would erode our state’s constitution and laws purely for political purposes.”

“I wholeheartedly and unequivocally stand behind my veto and will continue to defend this lawful action of my executive authority as governor,” Perry told reporters at a packed six-minute news conference near his office on the second floor of the Capitol.

“We don’t settle political differences with indictments in this country.”

The indictment, returned Friday by a Travis County grand jury, made Perry the first sitting Texas governor in nearly a century to be indicted, abruptly threw uncertainty over his potential presidential candidacy in 2016 and triggered state and national repercussions that Democrats hope will spill into this year’s gubernatorial race to choose his successor.

Democrats at the state and national levels escalated their demands for Perry to resign, but the state’s longest-tenured governor served notice that he plans to stay in office till the end of his term and vowed that he will ultimately beat the legal charges.

What Is He Hiding? Inspectors General Say Obama Administration Obstructing Justice

In an unprecedented letter, a majority of the federal government’s inspectors general (IGs) claim that the Obama administration is obstructing their investigations into government mismanagement and corruption. So much for President Obama’s claim that his would be the most transparent administration in history.

And it truly IS unprecedented. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, says “there has never been a letter even with a dozen IGs complaining” about such obstruction by an administration. The fact that the Justice Department’s IG, Michael Horowitz, also signed on is particularly revealing. After all, it is the duty of senior executive officers like Eric Holder to advise subordinate officials that they are obligated to cooperate with the IGs of their agencies.

On Aug. 5, 47 of the federal government’s 73 inspectors general, many of whom were appointed by President Obama, sent their letter to Issa, Sen. Thomas Carper (D-Del.), and the ranking members of the House Oversight and Government Reform and Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committees — essentially pleading with Congress to help the IGs do their jobs uncovering waste, mismanagement, fraud, and corruption within their respective agencies.

In the letter, the IGs complain about the “serious limitations on access to records that have recently impeded the work” of IGs at the Peace Corps, the EPA, and the Department of Justice. Administration lawyers have construed laws related to privilege in “a manner that would override the express authorization contained in the IG Act” and seriously impede the “ability [of the IGs] to conduct our work thoroughly, independently, and in a timely manner.”

According to the letter, the Justice Department withheld “essential records” in three different reviews, despite the fact that such records had been produced for the DOJ IG “in many prior reviews without objection.” Michael Horowitz eventually got access to the files, it seems, but not because Department officials realized they were misinterpreting the IG law in withholding access. No, Horowitz got the records only after DOJ leadership decided that “the three reviews were of assistance to the Department of Justice’s leadership.”

Surveillance Video Shows Robbers Attacking 78-Year-Old Man at San Bernardino Gas Station

One of the robbers said, “Give me your wallet,” according to Faust, and then punched the 78-year-old great-grandfather in the face.

“The next thing I knew, I was lying on the ground,” Faust said.

Surveillance video, which captured the incident, shows the masked attackers emptying Faust’s pockets and then running away, leaving him unconscious and bleeding on the ground. He was dazed when he came to.

The pair remained at large Tuesday.

West’s Historic Drought Stokes Fears of Water Crisis

When the winter rains failed to arrive in this Sacramento Valley town for the third straight year, farmers tightened their belts and looked to the reservoirs in the nearby hills to keep them in water through the growing season.

When those faltered, some switched on their well pumps, drawing up thousands of gallons from underground aquifers to prevent their walnut trees and alfalfa crops from drying up. Until the wells, too, began to fail.

Now, across California’s vital agricultural belt, nervousness over the state’s epic drought has given way to alarm. Streams and lakes have long since shriveled up in many parts of the state, and now the aquifers — always a backup source during the region’s periodic droughts — are being pumped away at rates that scientists say are both historic and unsustainable.

One state-owned well near Sacramento registered an astonishing 100-foot drop in three months as the water table, strained by new demand from farmers, homeowners and municipalities, sank to a record low. Other wells have simply dried up, in such numbers that local drilling companies are reporting backlogs of six to eight months to dig a new one.

In still other areas, aquifers are emptying so quickly that the land itself is subsiding, like cereal in a bowl after the milk has drained out.

“[Joe] was endorsed today by our dear friend Sarah Palin, and I would like to endorse him today myself,” said Levin. He added that Miller is the “constitutional conservative” in the race running against “two establishment” candidates. “Our friends in Alaska you need to get out; you need to vote” and help Miller win.

Miller responded, “I want to thank the Great One for endorsing my candidacy for the U.S. Senate. I have been a long time admirer of Mark as one of our country’s foremost champions of freedom. We both share the belief that the best and only hope for our nation is a return to constitutional government. I am honored to serve with him in that fight.”

Obama Administration Released Over 600 Illegal Immigrants With Criminal Convictions

More than 600 convicted criminals, including felons, were among thousands of illegal immigrants freed under the Obama administration in advance of 2013 budget cuts mandated under sequestration.

That’s according to a new report today from the inspector general for the Department of Homeland Security.

According to the IG’s report, at least two-dozen “aliens” were released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement even though they were in a “mandatory detention category.” (After an internal review, ICE later redetained them.)

The report provides a scathing portrayal of budget mismanagement and flawed processes at the highest levels inside the nation’s immigration enforcement agency.

Obama administration’s release of illegal immigrants unlawful, audit finds

The Obama administration violated the law when it released thousands of illegal immigrants last February, more than 600 of whom had criminal records, according to an internal audit released Tuesday that blamed the problem on poor planning and bad leadership from Washington.

Compounding matters, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) gave bad information to Congress about the releases, initially blaming the looming budget sequester rather than the agency’s own budget pressures, the Homeland Security inspector general concluded.

The new report does exonerate top Homeland Security officials of accusations they had pressured ICE to release the immigrants to create maximum pain from the sequesters as a political tool to end them.

Instead, investigators said the problems lay at the senior levels of ICE itself, finding that top officials botched planning, didn’t inform their own superiors of the problems and didn’t even know the law required them to hold 34,000 immigrants a day until they were reminded of it by congressional staffers.

“In this single action, ICE undermined its own credibility, the rule of law and the safety of Americans and local law enforcement,” said Sen. Tom Coburn, an Oklahoma Republican who requested the report along with Sen. John McCain.

Schools to Be Flooded With Illegal Immigrant Children

“This new fact sheet provides information to help education leaders better understand the responsibilities of States and local educational agencies (LEAs) in connection with such students, and the existing resources available to help educate all immigrant students – including children who recently arrived in the United States,” it adds.

Illegal Fined For Driving w/o License Before Allegedly Killing Boy With Machete

Court records show that Cristian Alexander Zamora, an illegal alien from El Salvador, was charged and fined for driving without a valid driver’s license in Texas in 2011– which was two years before he and an accomplice allegedly used a machete and a baseball bat to murder a 16-year-old Texas high school student.

Zamora, 22, and 19-year-old Ricardo Campos-Lara, also an illegal alien from El Salvador, are currently awaiting trial in federal court in Houston, for killing Klein Forest High School sophomore Josael Guevara in the Sam Houston National Forest.

“On Sept. 22, 2013, Zamora and Campos-Lara, both of El Salvador, allegedly aided and abetted each other in the murder by striking the victim with a bat and a machete,” says the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas.

According to reports from The Houston Chronicle, Capt. Tim Whitecotton of the Walker County Sheriff’s Office said both men were members of the notoriously violent Latin American gang Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13.

Open Letter to U.S. Senate Candidate Mead Treadwell

Dear Mead Treadwell,

We write you this letter as a follow up to our candidate interview with you regarding your interest in the endorsement from Alaska Right to Life Political Action Committee. We would like to thank you for your various contributions to the pro-life cause and your stated passion for protecting the pre-born.

We would like to be able to offer you the endorsement as an example of our new “standard bearer” endorsement policy. This policy change would enable every candidate of good character to receive our endorsement, provided they sign our pro-life affirmation and do not have a record that would be in conflict with the principles stated therein.

We appreciate that you indeed did sign our pro-life affirmation and that you are willing to address this difficult topic publicly. However, there are some concerns regarding your record that we must address in order to be true to our convictions and principles.

We have discovered over 30 times that you have contributed financially to the campaigns of pro-abortion (pro-choice) candidates. Granted, you may not have known at the time that all of the candidates you contributed to were pro-abortion. However, we do not believe that one gives financially to candidates without first vetting the candidates on the issues that are important to them. Our conclusion then must be that the life issue is not important to you.

During our interview you acknowledged that abortion is genocide. It is inconsistent to oppose the atrocity of genocide being carried out on the most vulnerable members of our society while simultaneously financing the very proponents of the killing (our research uncovered 3 monetary contributions you made to the political campaigns of Matt Claman, pro-abortion candidate and former board member of Planned Parenthood).

During your tenure as Lt. Governor you denied certification of the Natural Right to Life initiative by following the faulty advice from the office of the Attorney General. While one can sympathize with the difficult circumstances you found yourself in, we nonetheless believe that this was an issue that transcends worldly case law and was worthy to be made into a public dialogue.

Your behavior would lead us to believe that the statement you made to us during your 2010 campaign still rings true today that the life issue is “not number one” to you. We need a Senator in Washington who makes this issue non-negotiable and is not willing to compromise that position.

We also need a Senator who will work with us to replace pro-abortion Senator Lisa Murkowski when she comes up for re-election in 2016. Reports from the Federal Election Commission and Alaska Public Offices Commission record 16 contributions you have made to Lisa Murkowski’s campaigns for public office. Because of your commitment to financing Sen. Murkowski’s political career, including your investment into her 2016 campaign fund, we do not see you as the man who will do the hard thing of supporting a replacement of Sen. Murkowski. Regarding the 2010 election you also said: “I voted for Lisa in the primary and in the general, and I think Alaskans made the right decision”. Mead, how can a Senator who strongly supports the continued killing of innocent pre-born children be the “right decision”? Unless of course the lives of the innocent pre-born are of little to no importance.

We do not view (as we would hope) the above concerns as past mistakes but as an ongoing problem. When we asked for clarification on the issue of your financial contributions, you were quick to defend yourself instead of acknowledging your wrongdoing.

Because of these issues it is clear that your words are inconsistent with your actions. Scripture says that “a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways” (James 1:8) and that “a house divided against itself cannot stand” (Matt. 12:25). Alaska’s next US Senator will come under immense pressure. It is necessary to have someone with the strength of conviction and fortitude to put principle above political relationships.

It remains to us then to regretfully inform you that Alaska Right to Life PAC will not be endorsing your run for US Senate.

5-Year-Old Christian Boy Horrifically Murdered by ISIS

By Bob Unruh. The images of atrocities by Muslim fighters in Iraq – and Syria – against their soldier and civilian enemies have been have circulating for some time already. There have been reports, many documented in images and even videos, of ISIS crucifixions, executions, mass burials and worse.

But now Americans collectively are being left gasping by a flood of new reports and photographs depicting such horrors being inflicted on children.

One such report came recently from the Anglican Communion News Service, which said the son, age 5, of a founder of Baghdad’s Anglican church was “cut in half during an attack by the Islamic State,” a name by which ISIS also is known.

“An emotional Canon Andrew White told ACNS that he christened the boy several years ago, and that the child’s parents had named the lad Andrew after him,” the report said.

“I’m almost in tears because I’ve just had somebody in my room whose little child was cut in half,” he said. “I baptized his child in my church in Baghdad. This little boy, they named him after me – he was called Andrew,” White told the agency.

Iraqi Refugee: People in Mosul Hailed ISIS, Drove Out Christians

By Lauretta Brown. An Iraqi Christian who fled for his life from Mosul says that his Muslim neighbors welcomed the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq (ISIS) and told him “this land belongs to Islam.”

“We left Mosul because ISIS came to the city. The (Sunni) people of Mosul embraced ISIS, and drove the Christians out of the city,” the unnamed Christian refugee, who reportedly fled from Mosul to Lebanon, told Lebanese LBC/LDC TV in a July 30 interview translated by Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

When ISIS entered Mosul, the people hailed them and drove out the Christians,” he said in the video interview with a young child sitting on his lap. “Why did they expel just the Christians from Mosul? There are many sects in Mosul. Why just the Christians? ”he asked.

“This is nothing new,” he added. “Even before, the Christians could not go anywhere. The Christians have faced threats of murder, kidnapping, jizya (a tax imposed on non-Muslims).”
