Beards may contain bacteria which could potentially be developed into new antibiotics, a study has found.
Researchers found that clean-shaven men were actually more likely to harbour infection-causing bacteria resistant to antibiotics when compared to bearded men.
The study, published in the Journal of Hospital Infection, tested swabs from the faces of 408 hospital staff with and without facial hair.
According to the results, clean-shaven men are more than three times as likely to be carrying methicillin-resistant staph auerus (MRSA) on their cheeks as their bearded counterparts.
Clean-shaven men were also more than 10 per cent more likely to have colonies of Staphylococcus aureus on their faces, a bacterium that causes skin and respiratory infections, and food poisoning. By Randy DeSoto. Donald Trump, who played the “9/11 card” against Sen. Ted Cruz during last week’s Republican debate, reportedly was not very charitable in the aftermath of the attacks towards his fellow New Yorkers–but the campaign disputes these findings.
As reported by Western Journalism, when Cruz accused Trump of having New York values that do not resonate in Iowa, the candidate responded, “New York is a great place. It’s got great people. It’s got loving people, wonderful people. When the World Trade Center came down, I saw something no place on earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than New York.”
According to RedState, though the billionaire candidate spoke eloquently about New York values, he did not open up his wallet to give to charities supporting the victims of Sept. 11.
RedState cites the Foundation Center, which released a report in 2003 chronicling the “unprecedented outpouring of charitable support that followed the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.” The conservative blog found that the Donald J. Trump Charitable Foundation was not among the listed donating charities. (Read more from “Shocking Truth About Trump and 9/11 Charities Revealed – He Wants This Kept Quiet” HERE)

Red State’s Eric Erickson Weighs in on Trump
By Eric Erickson. I like him personally. I’ve been to his office. I’ve observed him privately dealing with his staff and people coming inside his building. He is personally, when the cameras are turned off, an incredibly gracious person. I know many people who do not believe that because all they see is the public Trump, but when the lights are down, the cameras are turned off, and Donald Trump, not “The Donald”, is present, he’s a good guy.
Not only that, but as I’ve mentioned before, Trump Hotels are some of the best I’ve ever stayed in. I try never to miss an opportunity to stay in the Trump Chicago and the Trump Hotel on Central Park has generated fond memories for my family.
Donald Trump is not my cup of tea as a candidate. I’m more into candidates who try to lift us to the better angels of ourselves and I do not think his campaign is doing that right now. Before I started writing about politics, I worked in politics. As a rule of thumb, I think anger burns out and it is tough to sustain over time. If Donald Trump really has become a conservative, I take St. Paul to heart that we should not put new converts in charge. He needs some time helping the movement before he leads the movement.
At the same time, so many of us, myself included, have been wrong about Trump’s appeal. I have tried to steer clear of the rank condescension towards Trump supporters because a lot of people have legitimate grievances against the government and Trump resonates with them. Three weeks before Granite Staters head to the polls to select their favorites to be their parties’ presidential nominees, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont has built a commanding lead over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton among likely Democratic primary voters.
Sanders leads Clinton 60 percent to 33 percent in the latest WMUR/CNN New Hampshire Primary Poll, with former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley at 1 percent and 6 percent undecided.
The University of New Hampshire Survey Center conducted the poll Jan. 13-18 among 420 likely Democratic primary voters. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.8 percent . . .
Sanders’ huge lead in his neighboring state is fueled by his remarkable popularity and broad appeal.
He is viewed favorably by 91 percent of likely Democratic primary voters and unfavorably by 7 percent. His support is strong among both men and women, among all age groups and in all geographic areas of the state. Hillary Clinton’s emails on her unsecured, homebrew server contained intelligence from the U.S. government’s most secretive and highly classified programs, according to an unclassified letter from a top inspector general to senior lawmakers.
Fox News exclusively obtained the unclassified letter, sent Jan. 14 from Intelligence Community Inspector General I. Charles McCullough III. It laid out the findings of a recent comprehensive review by intelligence agencies that identified “several dozen” additional classified emails — including specific intelligence known as “special access programs” (SAP).
That indicates a level of classification beyond even “top secret,” the label previously given to two emails found on her server, and brings even more scrutiny to the presidential candidate’s handling of the government’s closely held secrets.
“To date, I have received two sworn declarations from one [intelligence community] element. These declarations cover several dozen emails containing classified information determined by the IC element to be at the confidential, secret, and top secret/sap levels,” said the IG letter to lawmakers with oversight of the intelligence community and State Department. “According to the declarant, these documents contain information derived from classified IC element sources.”
Intelligence from a “special access program,” or SAP, is even more sensitive than that designated as “top secret” – as were two emails identified last summer in a random sample pulled from Clinton’s private server she used as secretary of state. Access to a SAP is restricted to those with a “need-to-know” because exposure of the intelligence would likely reveal the source, putting a method of intelligence collection — or a human asset — at risk. Currently, some 1,340 emails designated “classified” have been found on Clinton’s server, though the Democratic presidential candidate insists the information was not classified at the time. Last year, Franklin Graham joined James Dobson at an event in Colorado where the two warned against allowing gay people into churches because, according to Graham, they are representatives of “the Enemy” who wants to “devour our homes” and “devour this nation.”
On his radio program today, Dobson played excerpts from his discussion with Graham at the event, in which called for Christians to keep their kids away from gay people and to take over school boards across the nation in order to remove gay-friendly programs.
“We have allowed the Enemy to come into our churches,” Graham said. “I was talking to some Christians and they were talking about how they invited these gay children to come into their home and to come into the church and that they were wanting to influence them. And I thought to myself, they’re not going to influence those kids; those kids are going to influence those parent’s children.”
“What happens is we think we can fight by smiling and being real nice and loving,” he continued. “We have to understand who the Enemy is and what he wants to do. He wants to devour our homes. He wants to devour this nation and we have to be so careful who we let our kids hang out with. We have to be so careful who we let into the churches. You have immoral people who get into the churches and it begins to effect the others in the church and it is dangerous.” (Read more from “Franklin Graham Issues a Huge Warning to Christians – You Need to Read This” HERE)

A 25-year-old staffer for Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson died Tuesday in a car accident that also injured three campaign volunteers. Carson suspended his campaign for the remainder of the day and planned to travel to Omaha where Braden Joplin was being treated at Nebraska Medical Center’s trauma center.
The campaign confirmed Tuesday evening that Joplin died as the result of his injuries.
“Braden Joplin died following an auto accident on slick roads near Atlantic, Iowa,” the campaign said in a statement. “Three other passengers in the van were treated and released from a hospital in Atlantic, but Joplin’s injuries were severe, and he was brought to Nebraska Medical Center’s trauma center in critical condition for treatment.”
Carson released a statement Monday night saying it was a privilege to know Joplin.
“One of the precious few joys of campaigning is the privilege of meeting bright young men and women who are so enthusiastic about their country that they will freely give of their time and energy to work on its behalf. America lost one of those bright young men today,” Carson said. “I had the privilege of knowing Braden Joplin personally, and am filled with a deep and profound sadness at his passing.” (Read more from “Carson Staffer Dies in Tragic Iowa Car Accident” HERE)

The Republican Party in the largest county in Arizona will not endorse John McCain, in part because he said he would be willing to vote to fund Planned Parenthood.
The Maricopa County Republican Party endorsed “anybody but McCain” on Saturday by a vote of 921-to-582.
County Chairman Tyler Bowler said “many activists” expressed their view that “Senator McCain’s recent vote to increase the national debt to more than $20 trillion, while fully funding Planned Parenthood, was a clear message that he is more inclined to choose President Obama and Harry Reid over the will of the Arizona voters in order to retain his D.C. Establishment power.” McCain has voted to raise the debt ceiling about half of the times the option has come before the Senate . . .
McCain’s mixed, moderate record is increasingly out-of-step in the socially conservative Arizona GOP.
After the Center for Medical Progress released undercover footage showing national figures in the abortion industry haggling over the prices of aborted babies’ body parts, Sen. McCain became an original co-sponsor of a bill to defund Planned Parenthood. “The appalling footage that has been released over the last several weeks has made it abundantly clear that taxpayers should not be forced to pay for such disturbing activities,” he said last July. “It is long past time we stop sending American tax dollars to this scandal-plagued group and start doing more to protect the health and well-being of women, mothers, and their families.” (Read more from “John McCain Shamefully Says He Would Vote for Planned Parenthood Funding” HERE)

With the House on vacation this week, Mitch McConnell’s Senate Republicans will have the capitulation show all to themselves in Washington. As more news about the degree of betrayal on the Iran deal and the magnitude of the current border surge becomes available to the public, watch for Republicans to offer a lot of bluster but fail to craft a legislative agenda that truly speaks to the severity of the times.
Here is a quick look at what is on the agenda this week:
Liberal Judges
After another weekend of reports that Obama is committing acts of treason with Iran; namely, giving them $1.7 billion—Republicans are responding to him by … nominating a liberal judge! As we reported last week, the first vote on Tuesday will be to confirm Wilhelmina Marie Wright to the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. Wright is a hard-core leftist who evidently believes property rights are racist. Last week, almost every GOP senator voted to confirm a liberal public defender to a position on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Watch for this to become a growing pattern over the next few months as Obama is emboldened to nominate more judges.
Refugees
In December, the House pulled a bait-and-switch with funding for Obama’s Islamic refugee program. They fully funded the program to the tune of $1.67 billion in the omnibus bill, but passed a separate bill to block refugees. Except, even the standalone bill was an artifice. It merely requires the Obama administration to guard its own hen house and certify that any refugee accepted from Syria and Iraq is not a terrorist. And other problematic countries, such as Somalia, are not addressed at all. At the time, Paul Ryan blocked efforts by conservatives to vote on an amendment placing a temporary moratorium on the entire program.
This week, it’s the Senate’s turn to debate the phony refugee bill. This entire debate is an insult to the American people. This is not about “vetting;” it’s about defending our civilization from Sharia law, as witnessed by the events transpiring in Europe. As we saw during the last debate, establishment Republicans like Marco Rubio want to minimize the problem of Islamic supremacism to ISIS, as if to say as long as we can ensure the immigrants are not known professional ISIS operatives we can bring them in.
Moreover, Obama is abusing the program as it relates to Central American migrants. Last week, Secretary of State John Kerry announced the administration would expand the program to bring in thousands more Central Americans. The Department of Justice’s Immigration Judge Benchbook section 101(a)(42) clearly states that the bedrock basis for refugee status is a credible fear of persecution based on race, religion, or nationality. While all of these people are living in dismal conditions compared to our standard of living, this is true of most of the third world. Latin America is actually one of the most homogenous parts of the world and there is no religious or ethnic persecution. They are not eligible for refugee or asylum status.
Additionally, Obama is clearly telegraphing the message to Central America that our border is wide open. It’s no surprise that the numbers of Central American migrants coming over the border are beginning to surpass the surge of 2014. The number of unaccompanied alien children crossing the border for the first three months of FY 2016 is up 117% relative to the same period last year. This must be shut down immediately.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Senate will vote on cloture to proceed with the House refugee bill, H.R. 4038. Democrats might not filibuster the motion to proceed with debate, thereby allowing a series of votes on amendments. Democrats will attempt to vote on amendments that, in their mind, will embarrass Republicans. They will attempt to resurrect the Leahy amendment, which expresses the sense of the Senate that nobody should be excluded from this country’s immigration system on account of religion. Senator Leahy already forced a vote on this amendment in the Judiciary Committee last month and only four Republicans had the sense to vote against it. Codifying such language into our laws would essentially open the door to endless lawsuits from any of the 7.2 billion people in the world who want to immigrate here.
At the same time, watch for conservatives like Sen. Jeff Sessions to offer real amendments dealing with the broader immigration issue. It will be interesting to see if McConnell is, once again, more favorable to Democrat amendments than offered by his Republican colleagues.
School Lunch Program
The Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee is planning to mark up a bill on Wednesday that would reauthorize a host of child nutrition programs and the WIC (Women, Infants and Children) program through fiscal year 2020. This bill is being lauded as a bipartisan breakthrough, but in reality it is likely to codify the nanny-state Michele Obama-style federal nutrition guidelines into law. Moreover, the federal government should not be involved in such a multitude of programs dealing with child nutrition. These programs should be devolved to the states. Furthermore, even if Republicans do not think they can make significant reforms with Obama in the White House, it makes no sense to reauthorize the program for more than two years, especially given that there is no effort being made to combine duplicative programs. None of the Iranians freed in the prisoner swap have returned home and could still be in the United States, it has been reported.
The seven former inmates, who were released as part of a deal with the Islamic republic, did not show up to get a flight to Geneva, Switzerland, where the exchange was set to take place on Sunday.
Three of the Iranians have decided to stay in the United States, ABC reported, with some moving in with their families. However it is not known where the other four are.
Three of the Americans who had been detained in Iran – Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian, former U.S. Marine Amir Hekmati and Christian pastor Saeed Abedini – left Tehran at around 7am the same day, but weren’t met by their counterparts in Switzerland . . .
Six of the seven have dual citizenship and all of them had been convicted or charged with crimes related to selling sensitive equipment to Iran. (Read more from “NONE of the Seven Iranians Freed in the Prisoner Swap Have Gone Back to Iran” HERE)

According to a report by CNSNews, the United States has approved the resettlement of 483 Syrian refugees since the terrorist attacks in Paris last November, and only one is a Christian.
The lone Christian constitutes 0.2 percent of all of the Syrian refugees approved for resettlement in the United States since Nov. 13, 2015 . . .
The overwhelming majority — 470 — of the refugees Sunnis, three are Shi’ites and nine were identified as “Moslem.”
A single refugee was identified as a member of the Greek Orthodox Church . . .
Of all of the refugees admitted since the beginning of fiscal year 2016 in October, the United States has admitted 774 of a planned 10,000 Syrian refugees. Of those 774 refugees, six are Christian. In addition to the lone member of the Greek Orthodox Church, three were identified as Catholic, one as “Orthodox” and one simply as “Christian.” (Read more from “Here’s How Many Christian Syrian Refugees the United States Has Admitted” HERE)
