U.S. To Restore Commercial Flights to Cuba

In just a matter of days, U.S. airlines will begin a fierce bidding war to win routes and airport slots to a destination that’s been off-limits to them for more than 50 years: Cuba.

Starting Tuesday, U.S. carriers will have 15 days to submit applications to the Department of Transportation for routes they’d like to fly between the U.S and Cuba.

The development brings airlines and travelers yet another step closer to scheduled commercial flights between the two countries.

Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and staff from the State Department will fly from Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington, D.C., to Cuba to formally sign an agreement to resume flights between the two countries. (Read more from “U.S. To Restore Commercial Flights to Cuba” HERE)

You’ll Never Guess Who Starred in One of Ted Cruz’s Most Recent (Now Removed) Campaign Ads

Amy Lindsay, the actress featured in films such as “Kinky Sex Club,” “Milf,” “Carnal Wishes” and “Sex Sent Me to the ER” stars in Sen. Ted Cruz ‘s latest campaign ad entitled “Conservatives Anonymous.”

“Maybe you should vote for more than just a pretty face next time,” Lindsay says in the ad.

Seconds before this story was published, the Cruz campaign removed the ad from YouTube . . .

Cruz’s campaign told The Daily Caller that it is removing and replacing the ad, and that it would not have included her in the ad had it known of her past.

“The actress responded to an open casting call,” Cruz campaign national press secretary Catherine Frazier told TheDC. “She passed her audition and got the job. Unfortunately, she was not vetted by the casting company. Had the campaign known of her full filmography, we obviously would not have let her appear in the ad. The campaign is taking the ad down and will replace it with a different commercial.” (Read more from “You’ll Never Guess Who Starred in One of Ted Cruz’s Most Recent (Now Removed) Campaign Ads” HERE)

Christian Conservatives Pivotal in the South, and Feeling Under Siege

Inside the Sunshine Coin Laundry near the Piggly Wiggly supermarket, Lagretta Ellington removed her family’s clothes from one of the large dryers and began to neatly fold them on a nearby table.

The air was moist and smelled of detergent. The floor was concrete. Her views of the presidential race were anything but. She was unsettled, and distrustful. The candidates just seemed like entertainers . . .

In the South, now the pivotal battlefield of the 2016 presidential campaign, faith and politics walk the aisle together. And while Christians have always dominated American politics – Bernie Sanders this week became the first non-Christian ever to win a presidential primary in U.S. history – conservative Christians feel under siege.

Marriage is being redefined, and they’re being forced to go along. A new health care law mandates free contraception, even if it violates their core beliefs. Even the greeting “Merry Christmas” feels under assault.

Their anxiety and anger help explain the rise of Republican outsider candidates such as Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas (“Any president who doesn’t begin every day on his knees isn’t fit to be commander in chief”) and even billionaire Donald Trump (“If I’m president, you’re going to see ‘Merry Christmas’ in department stores, believe me”), perhaps the unlikeliest of vessels for such support. A New Earthquake Sensing App Just Hit the Google Play Store

Scientists have a new way to predict earthquakes, harnessing the combined power of the world’s smartphones. An app called MyShake is arriving today on the Google Play Store, alongside an accompanying paper in Science Advances. Created by a team of scientists from UC Berkeley, the app turns your phone into a background quake-detector, scanning the phone’s accelerometer data in real time and forwarding any rumblings that fit the profile of seismic activity. With enough phones networked together, researchers hope they can build a kind of distributed seismograph, stitching together thousands of rough readings into a more comprehensive data source than researchers have ever had.

The app takes advantage of the increasingly sensitive accelerometers built into phones, which are sensitive enough to distinguish the distinct profile of an earthquake from the regular jostling of daily life. If enough seismic signals are sent in at the same time, the app will recognize it as the early rumblings of an earthquake and notify the US Geological Survey, which will pass the alarm on to traditional first responders. Notably, those early rumblings will typically come before people in the affected region notice any shaking at all.

A phone will have to be placed on a flat surface for MyShake to work properly, away away from the bumps and shakes of the human body (known to researchers as “anthropogenic noise”). The MyShake team also needs at least 300 such phones in a given 12,000 square-kilometer region. “The real advantage of MyShake seismic network is the density of the stations,” said Qingkai Kong, a doctoral student who worked on the app. “Of course, if we have more phones in one region, it definitely helps.” (Read more from “A New Earthquake Sensing App Just Hit the Google Play Store” HERE)

Former Top Obama Official Just Went Rogue and Dropped Bombshell About Hillary

By Randy DeSoto. President Obama’s former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) believes that Hillary Clinton should be disqualified from being president in light of her alleged gross mishandling of classified material.

Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn (Ret.) told the Daily Caller, “This is unbelievable. I don’t think anybody should be talking about her being potentially the next President of the United States.”

“I think Hillary Clinton, for the good of the country, should step down and let this FBI investigation play out,” Flynn added.

The former DIA chief expressed particular concern that highly classified Special Access Program (SAP) material, which is to be viewed on a “Need to know” basis, was transferred to her private, non-secured server. This material is deemed even more sensitive than Top Secret.

“Placement of SAP-classified information on a non-secure server was the ‘single, most dangerous security violation that can ever happen to the United States,’ said Col. James Waurishuk, former deputy director of intelligence for the U.S. Central Command,” The Daily Caller reported.

“In order for Mrs. Clinton to get Top Secret/Special Access Programs onto her private server, numerous, redundant safeguards were deliberately bypassed, probably by unauthorized personnel who were given access to these documents. It was a deliberate, intentional act. It just could not happen by accident,” Waurishuk said. (Read more from “Former Top Obama Official Just Went Rogue and Dropped Bombshell About Hillary” HERE)

Donald Trump: I Would Beat Hillary Clinton to White House

By BBC News. Republican Donald Trump has said he would easily beat Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in a presidential contest for the White House.

The businessman with no political experience convincingly won the New Hampshire primary and has now laid out his strategy to go all the way.

Elsewhere, Republican Carly Fiorina has announced she is dropping out of the race after getting just 4% of the vote.

South Carolina is next in the state-by-state contest to be Republican pick. (Read more from “Donald Trump: I Would Beat Hillary Clinton to White House” HERE)

Donald Trump the Candidate: Fact-Checking Supporter and Media Misinformation [+videos]

Let me make my position on Donald Trump perfectly clear (now stick with me, Trump supporters, because you may appreciate at least two of the bullet points!): I think he’s a demagogue who’ll say and do anything to get himself elected. I think he’s tapped into a very real anger in America, but it’s an anger he’s exploiting, not one he truly understands. I think he flip-flops on his positions more often then he changes wives. I think he has precisely zero core values. And I think he’s a big government guy, not a conservative. Why? Because he cannot articulate what conservatism is, which is an easy pop-quiz for those of us who truly are. So, with that said, I’ll get to the point of this article: Some Trump supporters, and especially the media, have engaged in misinformation about Donald Trump the Candidate. Here are [some] of the most noteworthy:

HEALTHCARE

Last week Trump blamed Ted Cruz for saddling America with ObamaCare. Ted. Cruz. The man who stood willing to shut down the federal government to rid us of that albatross. I think Trump would like us all to forget his support for Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, two of the nation’s most destructive politicians, who are directly responsible for shoving that turkey down our throats. So no, Donald, you are far more responsible for the ObamaCare monstrosity than just about any of the other candidates.

Trump supporters argue that Trump is not for socialized medicine. In his own words, as recently as during last Saturday’s GOP Debate: . . .

Trump likes to tout his support for eminent domain. And yes, it has been used for the greater good of the nation with the construction of railroads, bridges, and highways, for example. But that’s not how Trump tried to employ it on at least one occasion: He attempted to force an elderly woman to sell her home, so that he could build a parking structure on her land. And at last week’s GOP debate, Jeb! finally called him on it:

41-Day Standoff Ends as Last Armed Oregon Refuge Protester Surrenders to the FBI

The four remaining holdouts of the armed protest group that has occupied a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon for the past 41 days turned themselves in peacefully Thursday . . .

After the first three protesters surrendered to authorities at around 9:40 a.m. local time, the last occupier, David Fry, initially resisted. But just after 11 a.m., Fry turned himself in to the FBI, according to the Oregonian.

Fry had said on a live audio webcast that he was “feeling suicidal” and would “die a free man.” At one point he said he was pointing a gun at his head. He ranted about abortion, UFOs, the government “chemically mutating people” and Syria . . .

But eventually, after requesting listeners yell “Hallelujah,” he walked out to meet authorities . . .

One of the three protesters who turned themselves in first was holding an American flag as the group went out to meet authorities. Another protester said on an audio webcast that officials were not being rough and did not have guns pointed at the group. Trump’s Not Going Away – so Now What Do Conservatives Do?

I am watching the presidential race this year with horrified fascination. And a glimmer of hope — at the failure of the GOP donor class to line up the voters behind its preferences. Let me be up front with you: I think we need an anti-establishment candidate, and I am neither thrilled nor panicked by the thought of Trump in the White House.

Understand, I believe that Trump could win a general election against either Bernie Sanders or Hillary Clinton, and become a thoroughly mediocre, unprincipled president: one who grows the government, enriches his friends and punishes his enemies — just like Richard Nixon, whose conservative talk was belied by his statist, cynical policies. Trump also would probably appoint unreliable people to the U.S. Supreme Court, since his pro-life promise isn’t worth the pre-nup it’s printed on, and he even said as recently as late August that his sister Maryanne Trump Barry — a U.S. circuit court judge who has advocated aggressively for late-term partial birth abortions — would make a “phenomenal” Supreme Court Justice, “one of the best.”

However, I have far less confidence than some that Rubio, Bush or Kasich would wage a tough fight in the Senate to get real conservatives confirmed. That’s not part of the establishment playbook, as Ted Cruz pointed out in the first GOP debate.

And I do agree with Trump, and with the much more principled, disciplined, and civic-minded Cruz, that the Republican establishment has run the party into a quagmire. The three “respectable” candidates still with a chance at the nomination are hard to distinguish from Bernie Sanders on the most critical issue facing voters: the irreversible transformation of America via mass, low-skill immigration.

Mark Kirkorian of National Review is right that lax immigration policies should be a deal-killing litmus test for any conservative candidate. If a president supports bad policies on eminent domain, or imposes stupid tariffs that raise the price of Androids, or is “too soft” on Putin’s Russia, such policies can be reversed, if not by him then by his successor.

But allowing in many thousands of orthodox Sunni Muslims, and millions of Latin Americans with no experience of honest democracy or the free market, and a cultural fondness for free-spending big government … that can’t be easily reversed. That changes the country, in a more fundamental way even than Barack Obama’s policies.

I once burned many bridges to nowhere in 2011 by writing that “Amnesty Equals Abortion,” since newly amnestied voters were very likely to follow the political preferences of their civic leaders, cousins and “community organizers” by voting for pro-abortion Democrats — whatever their personal opinions about abortion. So if you supported amnesty, for whatever high-minded abstract reasons, you were also supporting legal abortion and a long list of other left-wing causes in cold, political fact. I stand by that assessment.

You would also be supporting big government. We have a higher percentage of foreign-born residents in our country than we have since the 1890s. What we don’t have that we did have back then is large, empty states looking for homesteaders, exploding industries hungry for unskilled workers and a brashly self-confident culture that demands they assimilate. We do have a welfare state ready and eager to turn migrants into clients. As late as the 1920s, up to one-third of immigrants from places like Southern Italy found the sink-or-swim, free market system in America too uncongenial, and went back home.

That will not happen now, in an America with HUD housing, food stamps and affirmative action programs that privilege amnestied illegals over white male Gulf War veterans. A welfare check in America will be more attractive than a grunt job in Guatemala or Syria, so under the current system a lot of those folks aren’t going back. Ever. Do you want 5 or 10 percent of the electorate to favor sharia, while another 20 percent are enamored of Latin American socialism? If so, then support policies and candidates who have long supported loose immigration policy and even amnesty. There are plenty of options, from both of our major parties. Indeed, Donald Trump himself supports a “touchback” amnesty that rewards illegal immigrants and lets them cut the line to gain citizenship.

Meanwhile, I hope the field stays crowded with establishment candidates, splitting the establishment vote long enough to give voters time to weigh and compare anti-establishment Donald Trump to anti-establishment Ted Cruz, and consider which one is really in accord with timeless, truthful conservative principles, which one adheres to our Constitution and is sincerely public-spirited.

And while the commentariat watch and wait, in a year of insurgent politics, it is probably best not to dismiss as rubes, bigots or fools the large plurality of voters, in both parties, who are rejecting the status quo. In 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012, the Republican party nominated “safe” establishment choices. The GOP lost all but two of those races — and its leaders learned from that experience … absolutely nothing.

This year, thanks to social media and freer political speech (in the wake of Citizens United), the peasants have found their pitchforks. Republicans had better stop posting memes from Idiocracy and laughing off Trump’s voters, whose anger is real and legitimate, if tragically misdirected. We need to understand and answer it, respectfully and responsibly. (For more from the author of “Trump’s Not Going Away – so Now What Do Conservatives Do?” please click HERE)

Congress Passes Feel Good Legislation on North Korea, Waivers Galore

It was one of those moments where both parties came together in a rare showing of collegiality and voted to strengthen sanctions on North Korea. After all, the madman in charge of North Korea just launched a long-range rocket, conducted nuclear weapons testing, and resurrected another plutonium reactor. The Senate responded by unanimously passing a sanctions bill.

Or so the media would have you believe. In reality, these moments of bipartisanship are not rare and are more the rule than the exception. This bill embodies the parties getting along well together precisely because it doesn’t really do much and won’t force Obama to do anything he is recalcitrant to pursue.

To begin with, the reason Democrats are more willing to go along with sanctions on North Korea than Iran, even though Iran is violating the terms of the nuclear agreement, is because these measures are largely symbolic. Placing real sanctions on Iran would derail the nascent treaty that Obama so fervently supports. As it relates to North Korea, the ship has already sailed because they have already acquired nuclear weapons thanks to a similar process Democrats just supported vis-à-vis Iran. It is widely believed that North Korea has up to 16 nuclear warheads.

H.R. 757 is full of directives that the White House issue reports and monitor behavior of individuals related to the North Korean regime. The only few provisions in this bill that will actually change the current reality and put the screws to Kim Jong Un are full of waivers that Obama will utilize immediately. Section 203 of the bill would require a special license to export any goods or technology to North Korea and would direct the president to cut off all aid to any country that provides “lethal military equipment” to North Korea. This provision specifically targets China. But the bill provides a waiver if the president believes it’s in “our national interest” and an exception if the assistance is “for human rights, democracy, rule of law, or emergency humanitarian purposes.”

Section 206 calls on the State Department to deny visas to anyone involved in assisting the North Korean regime’s weapons program, but this provision and many others are voided out by a plethora of waivers and exemptions in Section 208.

Everyone understands why you would insert national security and humanitarian exceptions into a piece of legislation. But that is predicated on having a president who is looking out for our interests and not siding with our enemies. To pass a new bill with so many waivers after everything we’ve seen from this president is a complete joke.

In December, Congress passed a bill requiring Iranian and Iraqi nationals with European passports to obtain a visa in order to travel to the U.S. Under current law, most European countries are exempt from the visa requirement. But they inserted a national interest waiver into the bill and within just two weeks John Kerry announced that he was exempting Iranians from the extra layer of scrutiny.

Unfortunately, there is every reason to believe that the Obama administration will continue to coddle North Korea the same way it has Iran. Obama’s State Department has refused to list North Korea as a state sponsor of terror and this bill declines to force the administration’s hand. Last year, the Obama administration turned a blind eye to North Korea’s shipment of missiles to Iran in order to protect both of them from sanctions. There is nothing in this bill that will force the hand of an administration that has already demonstrated it doesn’t view North Korea as a threat. And in some ways, Obama views them as a strategic partner in forging his alliance with Iran. Besides, why make his buddies in China mad?

In 2011, Obama did nothing after China transferred transporter-erector-launchers to North Korea. As Sen. Ted Cruz wrote in a letter to Obama, “[U]pon receipt of these vehicles, North Korea modified them with the ability to launch the KN-08, an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the West Coast of the United States from a road-mobile launch platform.”

It’s understandable why Republicans would jump at the opportunity to get this bill on Obama’s desk, but there was no reason for them to toss Democrats a loin cloth and block all amendments, even those with common sense provisions tightening some of the waivers. Sen. Rand Paul was prevented from offering his amendment (#3301), which would have struck the humanitarian waivers from the bill.

The next time you see Mitch McConnell and Harry Reid back-slapping each other on passing a bill that sounds meritorious, make sure to read the fine print. (For more from the author of “Congress Passes Feel Good Legislation on North Korea, Waivers Galore” please click HERE)

Chelsea Clinton Reveals the Disgusting Reason Why She Left Baptist Church

Chelsea Clinton said she left the Southern Baptist Convention at the tender age of six, because a Sunday school teacher taught her that abortion is a sin.

The daughter of former President Bill Clinton and Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton told interviewers she finds it “insulting” when people doubt her family’s devotion to God because of their strong support for abortion-on-demand and other policies traditionally condemned by Christianity.

“I find it quite insulting sometimes when people say to my mom, my dad or me…that they question our faith,” Chelsea, who is now 35, told PageSix.com.

“I was raised in a Methodist church, and I left the Baptist church before my dad did, because I didn’t know why they were talking to me about abortion when I was six in Sunday school,” she said. “That’s a true story” . . .

As the daughter of the governor of Arkansas, Chelsea Clinton was confirmed at First United Methodist Church in Little Rock, which she attended with her mother. Bill Clinton attended Immanuel Baptist Church on his own. (Read more from “Chelsea Clinton Reveals the Disgusting Reason Why She Left Baptist Church” HERE)
