A day after skipping the Republican presidential debate, Dr. Ben Carson addressed the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday with some news about his struggling campaign.
Confirming he is “leaving the campaign trail,” the retired neurosurgeon enjoyed an extended standing ovation of support from the CPAC audience.
“I will still continue to be heavily involved in trying to save our nation,” he promised, including work with “My Faith Votes, which is an organization that is going to try to help the faith community to recognize how important their vote is.”
Recalling the 2012 presidential election, Carson said 25 million evangelical Christians stayed at home . . .
Many Christians, he said, believe they do not need to concern themselves with politics because “God’s got it under control,” Carson explained.
In any case, he urged Americans not to look at each other as the enemy just because they may disagree, concluding that such infighting “makes it excessively easy for those who really are our enemies.” (Read more from “GOP Candidate Announces Suspension of His Campaign at CPAC” HERE)

The United States government has been paying to feed and shelter thousands of Cubans trying to migrate to the United States, in what critics consider another sign of the lopsided treatment provided to Cubans under American law.
The Obama administration has tried hard to deter the crush of migrants arriving from Central America in recent years. It has pressed Mexico to crack down on migrants passing through its territory, while women and children who managed to cross the American border have been held in detention facilities.
But American law gives Cubans special status to live in the United States and apply for a green card, provided they make it here. That has set off a rush of Cubans who have taken advantage of changes inside Cuba that make it easier to leave, and who are worried that the Obama administration’s improved relations with their government will soon erase their privileged status.
In January, the United States pledged $1 million to help provide temporary shelter, potable water, food, sanitation and hygiene kits to thousands of Cubans who were stranded in Costa Rica while trying to make their way to the American border. Donald Trump will no longer speak at the annual conservative confab CPAC this weekend, he announced Friday.
Trump was scheduled to speak at the annual gathering of the who’s-who of the conservative world Saturday, but said he would be campaigning, instead.
In a statement, the Trump campaign said the GOP front-runner will instead attend rallies in Kansas and Florida.
“Because of this, he will not be able to speak at CPAC as he has done for many consecutive years,” the campaign said. “Mr. Trump would like to thank Matt Schlapp and all of the executives at CPAC and looks forward to returning to next year, hopefully as president of the United States.” (Read more from “Donald Trump Backs out of CPAC” HERE)
One of the ways in which a Spanish teacher at the University of North Carolina — Chapel Hill teaches students the language is by using a provocative assignment called “the confession,” The College Fix has learned.
The Spanish 350 assignment in Dr. Michael “Raúl” Brown’s class asked students to confess some sort of pretend secret to loved ones, and suggested writing prompts included “if you’re Christian or of a Christian family, confess to be atheist” and “if you’re straight, confess to be gay.”
One student who took the “Advanced Conversation and Composition” class last fall told The College Fix they were offended by the assignment.
“I can’t tell you the level of discomfort that took over me as I wrote it,” the student said in an interview last month. “It still makes me cringe.”
The student ended up transferring out of the class, citing the assignment and other concerns with the course, and telling the department chair in an email obtained by The College Fix: “Yesterday, we were assigned to write an essay/letter to our parents pretending to be homosexual and essentially had to ‘come out’ to our parents in said fake letter. While there were other options for the essay given (pretending to tell your parents you’ve decided to be atheist, or pretending you are homosexual and telling your parents RaulBrownyou were just confused for a period of time), I find this assignment extremely inappropriate and not relevant to the class whatsoever.” (Read more from “Students Told: ‘If You’re Christian, Confess to Be Atheist; If You’re Straight, Confess to Be Gay'” HERE)

A plan to block Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump struggled to gain traction on Friday as rival candidates rejected it, while Democrats reveled in the chaos they hoped would boost their chances of keeping the White House.
The country’s top elected Republican, House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan, said he was not interested in an effort to draft him into the White House race.
And U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, a conservative presidential hopeful, ruled out a deal to pick a compromise Republican candidate at the party’s July convention, which senior party figures see as their best chance to stop the unpredictable billionaire.
“The D.C. power brokers will drop someone in who is exactly to the liking of the establishment. If that will happen we will have a manifold revolt in this country,” Cruz said at the Conservative Political Action Conference outside Washington . . .
Party leaders worry Trump would not be able to beat Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton in the election, but time is running out after he won most of the states that voted in this week’s Super Tuesday. (Read more from “Republican ‘Dump Trump’ Effort Struggles to Gain Traction” HERE)
It is widely accepted that American public schools are controlled by liberals. It seems like every day, we see new examples of American schoolchildren being indoctrinated with left-wing ideas . . .
Kindergarten students from PS75, a public school in New York City, recently took part in a class project in which the children were made to create an American flag with the flags of other 22 other nations superimposed over the stripes. Below the flag read the words “We pledge allegiance to an International Flag.”
The flag is being auctioned off as a way to raise funds for the Parent Teacher Association. According to the description offered on the auction site:
The students made a beautifully painted stretched canvas American Flag and then applied flags from all the Spanish speaking countries onto the stripes of the American flag. All the children chose a flag to color using colored pencils and they were glued onto the larger American flag. The stars are cut canvas which are painted and decorated with REAL Swarovski Crystals (gold and crystal colored)!

By B. Christopher Agee. According to South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott, Barack Obama’s disastrous foreign policy platform is being punctuated with an act that could be especially dangerous for American citizens.
In an effort to keep a campaign promise, Obama recently confirmed his plans to shutter the Guantanamo Bay detention center in Cuba, which has housed terror suspects in the years since 9/11.
Instead of detaining suspects in that remote location, Scott explained that the current administration is planning to move these enemy fighters to facilities within the U.S.
“The president’s foreign policy has been an absolute failure,” he said, “and his willingness to close Guantanamo Bay and send the world’s worst enemy combatants to a location near some of us is simply the icing on a disastrous cake.”
His warning was also a call to action, specifically for voters to ensure Hillary Clinton does not become Obama’s successor . . .
Detailing what he believes are Obama’s failures in nations across the Middle East and beyond, he concluded that the situation would only be made worse by bringing our enemies into our nation. Will Cuba Take Over Guantanamo Bay? Military Lawmakers Claim Obama Will Give Base To Castro-Led Regime
By Christopher Harress. The top military lawmaker in the House of Representatives is calling for assurances from President Barack Obama that Guantanamo Bay won’t be handed over to Cuba as part of a normalization package between the U.S. and the Raul Castro-led country. Rep. Mac Thornberry R-Texas, chairmen of the House Armed Services Committee, said Obama could make the announcement during a visit to the country later this month.
Thornberry sent letters dated Feb. 29 to Defense Secretary Ashton Carter, Secretary of State John Kerry and National Security Adviser Susan Rice, expressing concern “the administration may be pursuing secret negotiations over the future of Naval Station Guantanamo Bay in Cuba as it has acknowledged it did in the pursuit of normalized relations with Havana,” the Hill reported Wednesday. “It provides an ideal location from which to service, stage, and project U.S. military forces, secure the air and maritime approaches to the United States, undertake counternarcotics efforts and provide disaster relief.”
It was unclear from Thornberry’s letter if his concerns about Cuba taking over the prison included the 91 prisoners remaining at the base. The future of those still at the controversial prison, some of whom have been there since the detention facility opened in 2002, has been a point of contention between the Republicans and Democrats since Obama announced he would close it on his third day in office in January 2009. James Stavridis, who led the 2011 intervention in Libya as NATO’s 16th Supreme Allied Commander, used unusual terminology to express his hope that the United Arab Emirates would step up its involvement in the Libya war.
In an email forwarded to Hillary Clinton’s private server, Stavridis discussed a mission change that would put U.S. bombs on UAE aircraft for strikes in Libya.
“As to how long … inshallah, soon,” wrote Stravridis, a retired U.S. Navy admiral . . .
Stravridis was replying to an email sent from one of Clinton’s top deputies, Jake Sullivan, to Ivo H. Daalder, the U.S. Permanent Representative on the NATO Council.
“Any way to get the UAE suggestion that they will contribute aircraft for strike missions firmed up and announced by the SYG?” Sullivan asked. (Read more from “Islamic NATO Commander? In Email to Hillary, He Used Muslim Religious Term” HERE)

When Marco Rubio was a local commissioner in Florida in 1999, he voted to ban guns from local parks.
Now, politicians make mistakes. And honest politicians “fess up” and move on.
Rubio’s problem is that, when Senator Ted Cruz called attention to Rubio’s anti-gun vote, Marco’s response was to call Cruz a “liar.” This was part of a larger narrative in which Donald Trump and Rubio were hurling “pants on fire” insults at Cruz.
But when Rubio disavowed his 1999 anti-gun vote — falsely accusing Ted Cruz of Rubio’s own sins — he made a serious mistake.
And not only was Rubio caught red-handed in a lie — about a significant and unambiguous misrepresentation — he was caught accusing others of “lying,” when in fact, it was Rubio himself who was not telling the truth.
As we said, politicians make mistakes. And Marco Rubio’s misrepresentation won’t be the worst mistake he’s made this week. (His worst mistake would be continuing his campaign in a context where the only conceivable outcome would be to prevent the pro-gun Cruz from seizing the nomination.)
But, just as Ted Cruz fired a top staffer in order to maintain the reality and appearance of scrupulous honestly, we do believe that Rubio owes Cruz an apology for his undeniable and conspicuous lie against him.
Incidentally, Cruz’ scrupulous honesty — in the face of child-like, baseless, repeated accusations — reaffirms Gun Owners of America in our decision to endorse Ted Cruz as, frankly, “the only adult in room” in a field of Republican candidates who appear, increasingly, like playground bullies. In a Wednesday appearance on Fox News, former GOP presidential candidate and Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain said he would support Donald Trump were he to win the GOP nomination.
In the interview on “Your World with Neil Cavuto,” Cain also said that those in the party establishment vowing to torpedo Trump’s campaign were he to be nominated were “insane and irresponsible.”
“I think they ought to stand back and get over it,” Cain said of the party establishment threatening to go nuclear on Trump. “Support whoever the nominee is, is what the mantra ought to be for the Republicans.”
Cain saved his greatest scorn for Mitt Romney, whose negative statements about Trump’s tax returns have caused controversy and division even among party members. Cain called Romney’s statement a “grenade” and said all he did was provide fodder for liberals.
As for the establishment’s take on Trump, Cain noted that a lot of GOP insiders thought that Trump would “flame out.” (Read more from “Herman Cain Issues Massive Announcement About Donald Trump” HERE)
