What Our Immigration System Really Looks Like

Yesterday, the Department of Homeland Security posted the annual Yearbook of Immigration Statistics for 2016, and it appears that Obama’s promise to fundamentally transform America didn’t disappoint. Here are some key details and observations of the report:

Near-record numbers: In 2016, DHS issued 1,183,505 green cards, the most of any year during Obama’s presidency. It is also the second highest number in the modern era, if we put aside 1990-1991, when we processed hundreds of thousands of extra green cards as a result of the 1986 amnesty. Of those roughly 1.2 million, 565,427 were already living here on temporary visas and 618,078 were new arrivals.

Chain migration dominates the system: Almost all the new immigrants were the result of chain migration or refugee-type programs. Very few green cards were apportioned based on skills or merit. A whopping 120,000 refugees were brought in. Overall, only 12 percent of all immigrants came through employment-based programs that require some sort of merit. Among the new arrivals, those numbers are starker. Just four percent of all new arrivals came in on employment visas, meaning the remaining 96 percent were either family visas or refugee, asylum, and quasi-amnesties. Only 2,410 individuals, .004 percent of new arrivals, came here with advanced degrees or extraordinary skills.

The fastest-growing category is parents of U.S. citizens. Those numbers increased by 23.5 percent from 2014 to 2016. Even open-borders fanatic Jeb Bush, at least while running for president in the GOP primary, voiced his support for the idea of abolishing the parent category, saying, “We need to narrow the number of people coming here through family petitioning … I would cut it down to spouse and minor children.” Abolishing all the other categories would reduce immigration among the new arrivals by more than two-thirds.

Do they even have jobs? Among those issued a green card this year, just 21 percent had known occupations. Roughly half did not work outside the home, and another third had no known occupation. Clearly, this is not being done for the economic benefit of this country.

Mexico still dominates legal immigration: Buttressed by chain migration, Mexican nationals were, by far, the most numerous recipients of green cards. In 2016, 174,534 Mexican nationals received green cards, double the number from the second most numerous recipients — Chinese nationals. The notion that we have not been generous enough to Mexican nationals through our legal immigration system and owe primarily Mexican nationals yet another amnesty for illegal aliens is downright insulting. Fifteen percent of all green cards were handed out to Mexico alone.

Massive increase in immigration from the Middle East: Most significantly, there was a large increase in immigration from the Middle East. According to Pew Research, over the past decade, we’ve admitted roughly 100,000 Muslim immigrants per year, double the level in the ’90s. I counted the number of green cards given out in 2016 to nationals from 47 majority-Muslim countries, and the total number was up to 179,114. Overall, we’ve admitted 2 million immigrants from those countries from 2001 through 2016. Some of the most significant increases from the previous year were from countries on Trump’s immigration pause list, such as Yemen and Syria, or from countries of origin of recent domestic terrorists, such as Bangladesh and Uzbekistan. In 2016, we increased immigration from 36 of these 47 majority Muslim countries.

How can anyone look at our throttled-up immigration system and say with a straight face that it serves America’s economic and security interests? President Trump was right to suggest that we must, for the first time, make sound immigration policy and secure borders the foundation of our national security. “Leaders in Washington imposed on the country an immigration policy that Americans never voted for, never asked for, and never approved — a policy where the wrong people are allowed into our country and the right people are rejected,” lamented the president in his “America First” speech.

Sadly, leaders in both parties are plotting and scheming for more amnesty rather than first fixing immigration to work for Americans. According to CNN, Sens. Lindsey Graham and Thom Tillis are meeting in Sen. Dick Durbin’s office every day and are “making progress” toward amnesty. What about progress towards safety and prosperity for Americans? In light of the recent problems with Sharia chain migration, is anyone from either party in Congress interested in knowing how many of the 179K immigrants from these countries, almost exclusively brought in because of family ties, love America and how many hate America?

The president clearly understands the problem with our immigration system. But to take this to the next level, he must finally agree to get rid of DACA amnesty once and for all and make it clear that he will not renew the illegal program in March. Any effort to play ball with amnesty will provide him with no leverage to reform the broader immigration system. America first means sticking a fork in the amnesty agenda for good and focusing on the needs of the American citizen for a change. Virginia Democrat Wins Election by ONE VOTE

The entire scape of the Virginia state legislature was changed Tuesday after a recount finalized a Democrat’s victory in a seat formerly held by a Republican with a margin of just one vote.

Democrat Shelly Simonds emerged from the recount as the winner of the 94th District of the House of Delegates, defeating Republican incumbent David Yancey, The Washington Post reports. There were 23,866 votes cast in this district on Election Day, and when the first results were counted, Yancey held only a 10-vote lead over Simonds.

After the recount, the final tally is 11,608 votes for Simonds to 11,607 for Yancey.

This is a historic victory for the Democrats, who having flipped the seat to now share a 50-50 tie with the Republicans for control of the Virginia House of Delegates. According to the Post, legislation in the house requires 51 votes to pass, and there is no mechanism to break ties.

Simonds’ victory is the capstone win of a wave election for the Democrats in the state of Virginia. A single voter is responsible for bringing the Virginia legislature to a possible stalemate for the next two years.

Don’t ever let anyone tell you that your vote doesn’t matter. (For more from the author of “Virginia Democrat Wins Election by ONE VOTE” please click HERE)

The House Just Gave Trump a Big Win on Tax Reform

The GOP has inched one step closer to enacting monumental tax reform.

By a vote of 227 to 203, House Republicans passed an updated version of their comprehensive tax legislation, also known as the the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

Bucking their party, 12 Republicans voted against the bill. These GOP members mostly hailed from high-tax states and are concerned with rollbacks of state and local tax deductions.

As predicted, no Democrat voted in favor of the legislation.

Tuesday’s vote marks the second time in a month House Republicans passed tax reform — the lower chamber approved a tax bill in November, but their version was markedly different than the Senate’s version that was passed in early December.

Because a uniform bill was needed, Republican House and Senate leaders met in conference committee and reached a compromise on identical measures to be passed in both chambers of Congress.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is a sweeping reform of the U.S. tax code, calling for slashes in rates for the majority of Americans and a simplification of the system.

The bill will deliver $1.5 trillion in tax cuts over a span of ten years, cut the corporate rate to from 35 percent to 21 percent and lower individual tax rates.

Multinational companies would also see a completely revamped tax system — including a one-time tax on foreign profits that have been earned, but kept overseas to avoid U.S. taxes, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Notably, the bill repeals the individual mandate to purchase health care, an unpopular provision in Obamacare that requires every American to purchase health insurance or else pay a fine.

With the House vote out of the way, the Senate is expected to act on the bill later in the evening, according to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

While most are certain Senate Republicans have the numbers to send the bill to President Donald Trump’s desk, the vote is expected to be razor thin.

Currently, the Senate Republicans hold a slim 52-48 majority in the Senate. During the last tax vote, the GOP only endured one defector, Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee, who joined Democrats in voting against the bill.

While Corker has now announced support for the updated bill, Senate Republicans are still in a somewhat precarious situation. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz, who is battling brain cancer, revealed he will be in his home state to seek medical care and be with his family during the tax vote, leaving Republicans with one less body.

The other Republican senator from Arizona, Jeff Flake, has yet to say if he will vote for the bill or not.

Nevertheless, Senate Republicans appeared to be good position after Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, a very moderate member of the GOP, announced her support. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio — who had previously said he was against the bill, citing a desire to see child tax credits expanded — switched to a “yes” after negotiators met him halfway.

Vice President Mike Pence postponed a scheduled trip to the Middle East in case he is needed in the Senate to cast a tie-breaking vote.

President Donald Trump has asked that the bill be passed in both chambers and sent to his desk for signature by Christmas — a goal that looks very likely to come to fruition. Donna Brazile Has Breakdown Over Seth Rich

Former DNC Chairwoman Donna Brazile appeared incoherent and agitated when WND approached her at a Tuesday book signing to ask her questions about murdered DNC staffer Seth Rich.

Brazile says in her new book, which is dedicated to Rich, that she was deeply concerned with Rich’s mysterious murder and had discussed it in a phone call with Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton after Clinton’s election loss . . .

“You say in your book that you urged Hillary Clinton to use campaign funds as reward to find Rich’s murderer(s). And Clinton briefly responded by saying she really had to go,” WND stated, before Brazile interjected . . .

“We discussed – on Dec. 1 we offered – Jim Roosevelt [co-chair of the DNC rules and bylaws committee] proposed that the DNC raise money to help with the reward fund, and we urged members to provide resources. But at no time did I tell Hillary – in the book, I said, ‘Don’t forget Seth Rich.’ That’s what I said in the book,” she claimed . . .

As WND reported, WikiLeaks is offering $20,000 for information leading to the arrest of Rich’s killer. The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department is offering $25,000; One America News Network, $100,000; GOP lobbyist Jack Burkman, $105,000; and businessman and investor Martin Shkreli, $100,000. Senate Russia Investigation Expands to Include Jill Stein

Former Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein is being investigated for possible collusion with Russia, The Washington Post reported.

Stein attended a 2015 dinner in Moscow, which former national security adviser Michael Flynn — who pleaded guilty earlier this month making false statements to the FBI regarding his interactions with Russian officials — also attended.

A picture from the event shows Russian President Vladimir Putin sitting next to Flynn and across the table from Stein.

The dinner was sponsored by Russian television network RT and Stein said in a statement that she “made the trip with the goal of reaching an international audience and Russian officials with a message of Middle East peace, diplomacy and cooperation against the urgent threat of climate change, consistent with long-standing Green principles and policies.”

“Our communications with Russian individuals regarding an invitation to speak on international relations at the RT 10th anniversary media conference will confirm what we stated publicly at the time and since: that we did not accept any payment or even reimbursement for the trip,” Stein explained, according to CBS News.

The investigation into the former Green Party candidate indicates that the Senate intelligence probe will more than likely continue well into 2018, despite Democrat claims that Republicans are pushing to finish the investigation by the end of the year.

The Senate Intelligence Committee has “two other campaigns that we’re starting on,” Republican Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina told reporters. One of those campaigns is Stein’s.

In September, Politico reported that Stein was the beneficiary of at least one of the political ads Russia bought to influence the 2016 election.

“Choose peace and vote for Jill Stein. Trust me. It’s not a wasted vote. … The only way to take our country back is to stop voting for the corporations and banks that own us. #GrowaSpineVoteJillStein,” the ad read.

In her book “What Happened,” Hillary Clinton said the votes for Stein “may well have thrown the election to Trump.” Clinton specifically pointed out that Flynn, Stein and Putin had attended the same dinner in 2015.

Former Clinton campaign spokesman Jesse Ferguson echoed Clinton’s sentiments.

“Russian operatives were not promoting Jill Stein because they thought she could win,” Ferguson said. “They were promoting her because they thought it would hurt Hillary Clinton and help Donald Trump.”

Stein said she would cooperate with the committee, but warned against the investigation being used to “intimidate and silence principled opposition to the political establishment,” according to The New York Times.

“We strongly support legitimate inquiry into any illegal activity in our elections — including quid pro quo deals, money laundering, corruption and violence of campaign finance laws,” Stein said.

“At the same time, we caution against the politicization, sensationalism and collapse of journalistic standards that has plagued media coverage of the investigation.” (For more from the author of “Senate Russia Investigation Expands to Include Jill Stein” please click HERE)

Raw Footage: Unconscious Man Passed out on Train Tracks, Pulled to Safety Moments Before Disaster

Cell phone footage captured the dramatic rescue of a man who was unconscious on the train tracks last week.

Linda Vicente, who shot the video, was waiting for a Q train at the Avenue H station in Flatbush, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, when she spotted the man lying on the tracks.

“It was the most scariest thing,” one of the witnesses told News 12 Brooklyn. “This man, slipped down on the platform and he passed out.”

“Sir? Sir, please wake up,” Vicente yelled in the video. “Sir! Please wake up! Sir, wake up!”

The other people on the Avenue H platform ran down toward the oncoming train, yelling for it to stop.

“I thought the train was going over him, I started crying,” Vicente told ABC News. “I had never seen that.”

The train stopped short of the station, and Vicente and two others, with the help of the people on the platform, pulled the man to safety.

“You hear stories, but when you’re there it’s so different, the feeling,” she told News 12.

After being pulled to safety, the man regained consciousness and asked to go home. He is still in the hospital in serious condition, but is expected to survive, News 12 reported.

Twitter users shared the story of these good Samaritans.

Vicente told ABC that seeing people pitch in to save a stranger’s life was rewarding.

“I think there are still kind people here in this world,” she said.

Vicente shrugs off the notion that people are calling her a hero. She told News 12 she was just doing the right thing. (For more from the author of “Raw Footage: Unconscious Man Passed out on Train Tracks, Pulled to Safety Moments Before Disaster” please click HERE)

US Marines Protect the Winter Olympics in South Korea From Kim Jong-Un

Hundreds of South Korean and US Marines braved subfreezing temperatures as they took part in winter training exercises on Tuesday.

Photos show shirtless soldiers wrestling, doing press-ups and snow sport exercises in the eastern mountainous region of Pyeongchang, South Korea, some 180 kilometers east of Seoul.

More than 220 South Korean Marines and 220 US Marines took part in the drill, which comes less than two months before the Winter Olympic Games set to be held there in February.

The training exercises began on December 4 at the Mount Hwangbyeong training camp as part of the Korea Marine Exercise Program, Yonhap News agency reported . . .

A spokesman for the US marine unit, the III US Marine Expeditionary Force, told the news agency: ‘This exercise has been held with a focus on enhancing the combined combat capabilities of the South Korean and US Marine Corps in winter war conditions under which temperatures drop to about minus 20C.’ (Read more from “US Marines Protect the Winter Olympics in South Korea From Kim Jong-Un” HERE)

Christian Carol Singers Arrested for Allegedly Trying to Convert People to Christianity

A priest’s car was also set alight by suspected Hindu extremists in a shocking attack in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India where Christians make up just 0.3 per cent of the population.

The group of carol singers, which was comprised of around 30 Catholic priests and parishioners, was performing in the city of Satna when they were attacked by the right-wing Bajrang Dal group.

A Hindu villager alleged he was told to “worship Jesus Christ” and offered money to convert to Christianity.

The incident initially led to the arrests of a group of seminary students and two priests, before a further eight priests were later arrested after coming to the aid of the detainees.

The police released the Christians around 2am on 16 December, but asked the ten priests and three students to report to the station at 7am that same morning. (Read more from “Christian Carol Singers Arrested for Allegedly Trying to Convert People to Christianity” HERE)

‘Racist’ Trees Separate Black Neighborhood From Golf Course

Palm Springs will remove a row of trees blocking a historically African-American neighborhood from a city-owned golf course.

At an informal meeting with neighborhood residents Sunday, Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon, council member J.R. Roberts and other city officials promised residents they would remove the tamarisk trees and a chain link fence along the Crossley Tract property lines as soon as possible.

Many longtime residents of the neighborhood previously told the (Palm Springs, Calif.) Desert Sun they believed the trees were planted for racist reasons in the 1960s, and remained a lasting remnant of the history of segregation in the city. Residents said the invasive tamarisks, which block views of the Tahquitz Creek Golf Course and San Jacinto mountains, have artificially depressed property values and prevented black families from accumulating wealth in their property over the past half century.

Roberts apologized to the Crossley Tract residents for any wrongdoing by the city in the past and said he and the rest of the council wanted to make the necessary changes to ensure future generations didn’t have to deal with the same problems current and past residents faced . . .

Moon said Sunday he and Roberts had only a combined four years on the council and the problems posed by the trees only recently came to their attention. Moon said after he became aware of the issue, he visited the neighborhood to get a first-hand idea of what residents’ concerns were. The Ultimate Christmas Gift for Feminists

If buying that special gift for the feminist in your life has you stumped, wisdom is always a good choice. Wisdom is a gift that never sours, goes out of style, stops working or (when properly used) leads one in the wrong direction.

Here goes. Headers are from ThoughtCatalog, but the subsequent explanations are just common sense:

Stop blaming men for:

1. Not thinking we’re pretty. (Women don’t find every man attractive. Men don’t find every woman attractive. Just the way it works.)

2. Thinking other girls are pretty. (Girls are attractive to boys much like boys are appealing to girls. So, unless you prefer a liar, get over it.)
