The Bipartisan Spending Binge Is Now Worse Than Under Bush and Obama

We’re now $22 trillion in debt, yet despite all that red ink, the Mexican cartels have control of our border and we’re not one bit closer to spending money on our own security. We’ve gone into deep debt for everything except the core function of the federal government.

It feels like it was yesterday when I was watching the news as a kid with my parents in 1995, listening to Newt Gingrich, during the infamous shutdown fight, warn about the dire consequences of crossing the $5 trillion debt milestone. It feels like it was yesterday when I was writing press releases for candidates in “the year of the Tea Party” on how Obama and the Pelosi Congress took the debt to $14 trillion in such a short period of time. Now, over eight years into varying degrees of GOP control of Congress and the White House, we have crossed the $22 trillion mark, expanding the debt more rapidly than at any time in our history. Whereas the debt exploded by $5 trillion during Bush’s eight-year tenure, a shocking figure at the time, it has now increased $8 trillion just since Republicans controlled the House in 2011 and by $4 trillion over the past four years, since they controlled at least two of the three political organs of government.

Now, the only question Republicans have is how many pennies of border security they will fight for, while refusing to challenge any of the nonessential and even harmful programs of the federal government. The GOP platform on debt and spending is a lie from top to bottom, as Republicans plan to pass more budget bills allowing us to blow through the budget caps without any effort to systemically reform the way we budget.

Now that Republicans are planning to cave on border funding, can they at least force a confrontation with Democrats over spending levels for functions of government that are nowhere near as important as border security? Thus, departments like HUD, which were able to completely shut down for a month with nobody noticing, will continue to enjoy record spending. We will continue to provide security for Kabul and Baghdad with the beefed-up military budget since last year’s budget deal, but no funding for our border or meaningful use of the military to protect our own sovereignty from the daily incursions by the most brutal cartels on earth.

Why even have a Republican Party any more?

Even more indefensible, unlike during the end of Bush’s years and the beginning of Obama’s tenure, when we first began accruing trillion-dollar annual deficits, we are not facing a deep recession. In fact, we are enjoying the most robust period of job growth since the late 1990s, and revenue is at a record high baseline.

Let it be known for all of time that dire predictions of revenue slumping as a result of the tax cuts were fake news. The entirety of the current deficit problem is due to increased spending. According to the latest monthly report released by the Treasury Department yesterday, spending was up 9.6 percent for the first three months of fiscal year 2019 relative to the first three months of FY 2018. What about revenues? They actually rose slightly by 0.2 percent, despite some declines in certain revenue categories. This is an important statistic, because it is the first clean metric we have comparing a period of time with the tax cuts in full implementation to a period before the tax cuts.

Moreover, some of the increased tax revenue from more payroll taxes likely would not have occurred without the job creation spawned by the tax cuts. If you isolate the revenue tallies for individual and corporate taxes, the government obviously did lose some revenue in certain categories, but it was made up by a $15 billion increase in payroll tax revenue (FICA, Social Security taxes), in addition to increased revenue from excise taxes.

The annual deficit after just three months stood at $319 trillion, well on pace to smash the trillion-dollar deficit mark for the first time in a booming economy.

Thus, this bipartisan era of debt is worse than anything we’ve seen this generation, and it is all happening with record revenue and a booming economy – with no world war consuming our economy and budget.

Thanks to Republican-approved budget deals, for the first three months of the fiscal year, outlays for HHS are up 12.5 percent, outlays for the Department of Education spiked 23 percent, and outlays for the Department of Commerce have doubled! Meanwhile, outlays on Homeland Security have actually been down by 30 percent because of less disaster spending under FEMA than last year. But it’s not like we went on a spending binge for Border Patrol and ICE. Outlays on military spending are up 8.45 percent, but again, what is the purpose of the military if we use it everywhere else in the world except against those who most directly harm us at our own border?

All of this spending is creating a crisis with interest payments on the debt. Net interest payments for the first quarter are up to $100 billion. That is an annualized pace of $400 billion, almost twice the level it has been in recent years. And this is just the beginning.

What is driving the most debt? The issue where Republicans now agree with Democrats: socialized medicine. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., is now bashing the Freedom Caucus for opposing the key element of Obamacare responsible for driving up the cost of insurance, thereby generating the massive spending and the monopoly created by the health care industry.

Health care is the 800-pound gorilla in the room. Federal spending on health care (not including state expenditures) is projected to be $17 trillion over the next 10 years, dwarfing the cost of Social Security and the military. By 2047, health care spending will be about 25 percent greater than the insolvent and crushing cost of Social Security. As such, health care in itself is the largest driver of the other great crisis, as noted: the mushrooming cost of the interest on the debt itself. Health care spending alone will be greater than all the revenue from payroll taxes and corporate income taxes combined and almost as large as individual income tax revenue.

This is all going to the creation of a monopoly in a circuitous death spiral of price inflation and increased government spending. It’s no mystery why our national expenditures on health care have popped from $27 billion in 1960 to over $3.3 trillion today. Assuming health care would rise at the same rate as the rest of the economy, that number would be under $250 billion today. If we flushed $1.6 trillion down the toilet every year, we’d come out with a better result because we’d just waste money. Now, we are taking that wasted money and artificially inflating the cost of health care to the point that nobody can afford it without government continuing the death spiral of spending, monopolizing, and price inflation.

Yet Republicans have acquiesced to every degree of this baseline and are only debating how much more socialized medicine they will countenance while fake-fighting the rest. Then they will say we have to agree to the new socialized medicine in order to fight the next plan. Rinse and repeat.

Now, instead of looking to cut spending elsewhere, Republican senators met with Ivanka Trump to see how they can create a new entitlement of paid family leave like they have in Europe, but of course without adding to the deficit and distorting our job market! They will find a “conservative way” to agree to Democrats.

With the deficits for FY 2019 skyrocketing just as much as the illegal immigration numbers, at some point conservatives need to asses their rate of return on the Republican Party.

Federal Judge Issues Gag Order on Roger Stone and His Attorneys

On Friday, a federal judge issued a partial gag order on former Donald Trump associate Roger Stone as part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.

District of Columbia Federal Judge Amy Berman Jackson issued an order Friday requiring Stone to “refrain from making statements to the media or in public settings that pose substantial likelihood of material prejudice to this case,” Fox News reports.

“There will be no additional restrictions imposed on the defendant’s public statements or appearances at this time, although this order may be amended in the future…if necessary,” Jackson’s order states. “This order should not be interpreted as modifying or superseding the condition of the defendant’s release that absolutely prohibits him from communicating with any witness in the case, either directly or indirectly. Nor does this order permit the defendant to intimidate or threaten any witness, or to engage or attempt to engage in any conduct in violation of [U.S. Code.]”

Jackson added that while it’s not the court’s job to tell Stone if making public statements is in his best interest, the court notes that “one factor that will be considered in the evaluation of any future request for relief based on pretrial publicity will be the extent to which the publicity was engendered by the defendant himself.”

Those involved with the case, including witnesses and council, were also ordered by Jackson to “refrain” from making statements near the courthouse to media or the public that may “influence any juror, potential juror, judge, witness or the court officer or interfere with the administration of justice.” (Read more from “Federal Judge Issues Gag Order on Roger Stone and His Attorneys” HERE)

WATCH: Beto Calls for Tearing Down Border Walls, Ends up Helping Make Conservative Case for the Wall

On Thursday, failed senatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke declared emphatically that he not only opposes Trump’s call to build a wall, he wants all existing border fences torn down, including outside his home town of El Paso. But in his explanation for why he’s so adamantly opposed to the wall, the presidential hopeful ended up making several points that align with the conservative case for building the wall.

O’Rourke was asked by MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, “If you could, would you take the wall down now? Knock it down?”

As Hayes made clear, the question was prompted by a post by Texas Republican Congressman Dan Crenshaw directed at O’Rourke pointing out the effectiveness of border fences: “[Beto O’Rourke] should answer a simple question tonight with respect to the border debate: If you could snap your fingers and make El Paso’s border wall disappear, would you?” wrote Crenshaw, adding: “Because this DHS graph shows that when the wall was built, illegal crossings dropped significantly.” . . .

If he had stopped there, he might’ve been okay; instead, he continued — and ended up accidentally making the case for those who argue that walls do in fact work: “And it has pushed migrants and asylum seekers and refugees to the most inhospitable, the most hostile stretches of the U.S.-Mexico border, ensuring their suffering and death.”

Pelosi’s Untouchables

Reps. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., are becoming examples of a new super-class of human being, riding roughshod over all their peers, proudly displaying their ignorance of, and hatred toward, all things American. They are Pelosi’s Untouchables.

Deriding the traditional patriotism and conservatism of the American people, the socialist club in Congress spews kook theology, far-left ideology, and outrageous cultural Marxism. They are the tip of the sword that will skewer this nation and engulf us all into a prolonged civil war based on race and religion. And Pelosi is allowing all of it.

Our Judeo-Christian roots of Western civilization are under attack every time these women open their mouths and spew their poison. It used to be that we were outraged every time Pelosi misquoted the Bible or used Jesus as a reason to steal money from some and give it to others. In fact, only ten years ago, we were all made aware of the Left’s intent to increase government and “fundamentally transform” the United States of America.

But now, up is down. Wrong is right. Our differences are thrown up by these Untouchables as reasons for personal privilege, and the entire Democrat Party’s kookiest ideas are considered mainstream by the sycophantic, loathsome press. They are hell-bent on destroying our entire system, our values, and our common interests. Their supremacist views will destroy Western civilization.

Pelosi pretends not to hear some things, then, responding only to massive pressure, pretends to be authoritative and suggest sham apologies. But she allows these Untouchables to foment hatred and introduce wild points of view that stand as complete opposites to what have been our policies as a nation forever. Fundamental transformation, right on schedule.

I don’t know any other way to put it. It feels good to say America will never be a socialist country. It feels good to say we’re making American great again. But watching Pelosi applaud a group of anti-Semites and radical communists who are “leaning in” on their very loud hatred of America the way we knew it means we are falling, and very fast.

Just like a seventh-grade teacher who will not stand up to a few thugs in her classroom, there will be chaos. Pelosi is fooling herself if she thinks the fact that she’s a woman is enough. These women, whose privilege derives from the color of their skin and the hatred in their hearts, will take over and impose chaos.

Their upside-down views on America are heralded. We hear of nothing else. Their views are not compatible with an America that can be great. Their views are not compatible with an America that can be proud. Their views and the chips on their shoulders are not compatible with a free and color-blind society that allows for diversity of opinion, love, and peace.

Pelosi said she’s not in the censorship business, so she won’t condemn the fakestinian Tlaib. She won’t remove the malicious anti-Semite Islamist Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the favored communist Ocasio-Cortez is a hot mess but determined. While she continues to allow these Untouchables to perform their hate-show, we will be at war in the streets in no time. (For more from the author of “Pelosi’s Untouchables” please click HERE)

The Senate Will Vote on Ben Sasse’s Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act

On Thursday night, Senator Ben Sasse, R-Neb., announced that the Senate will hold a roll call vote for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act on Monday, February 25.

The bill is a response to the recent law passed in New York, which allows late-term abortions up to the point of delivery. Sasse’s bill would require physicians to provide medical care to infants born alive despite abortion procedures — to “fight for the little guy,” Sasse said — as Conservative Review has previously reported.

On January 30, Virginia Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam defended a bill similar to New York’s, going so far as to say that the mother and physician would have a “discussion” post-delivery to determine whether or not the baby would be saved. His remarks sparked huge backlash from many conservatives for endorsing infanticide and motivated Sen. Sasse to present this legislation.

The seven-page bill has been berated by Senate Democrats for overstating the issue. They claim infanticide is already illegal and blocked Sasse’s initial request for unanimous consent to pass the bill. Green New Deal: Doubling down on stupid

When it comes to climate change policies, Democrats are doubling down on stupid. Instead of learning from the failures of former President Obama’s clean energy agenda, Democrats are driving over the climate change cliff by supporting the Green New Deal.

The absurdity of the Green New Deal is a tremendous political gift to Republicans. The environmental goals of the plan alone will dramatically reduce the use of fossil fuels in ten years, replace air transportation with high-speed rail, rebuild all U.S. buildings, and somehow address cow carbon emissions by presumably aggressively discouraging dairy and meat consumption. This is the effort of delusional minds completely out of touch with reality and American values.

The Green New Deal is an affront to liberty and a wake-up call for Americans and American businesses to the perils of socialist Democrats who seek to control every aspect of our lives. The good news is that the gains Democrats made with suburban voters and political independents who gave them control of the House of Representatives can be reversed when the consequences of this policy become widely understood.

Labor unions, a key voting bloc for President Trump in Midwest swing states, are expressing deep concerns about the New Green Deal. The United Mine Workers, whose members suffered from Obama’s war on coal, are sensitive to radical environmental policies. A coal union spokesman said in response to the resolution, “Our members are worried about putting food on the table.”

International Union of North America, a construction union, expressed similar concerns, pointing out that workers are doing better working on fossil fuel industry projects than renewable energy.

To end the madness, Republicans must drive a stake through the heart of the Green New Deal by reminding voters of Obama’s clean energy errors and recent examples of transportation failures, as well as problems from the limitations of renewable energy.

To recap, Obama threw about $90 billion of federal stimulus money to jump-start the clean energy economy. The results were disastrous. Many companies that received grants and loans under Obama went bankrupt. After losing billions of taxpayer dollars on clean energy projects, companies such as Fisker Automotive, Solyndra and A123 Systems became household names and poster children for Obama’s clean energy debacle.

While the percent of wind and solar power is rising following the Obama years, these sources of electricity currently only deliver about ten percent of the U.S. supply, reaching an estimate of seventeen percent in 2020.

Accordingly, the Green New Deal has an impossible amount of ground to cover in ten years. Reducing traditional forms of energy for electricity generation will be expensive and increase the possibility of power shortages.

New England is carrying out a diluted version of the Green New Deal, implementing state-mandated renewable energy standards, closing coal plants, reducing nuclear energy, and trying to fill the power gap with lower carbon dioxide-emitting natural gas.

Tinkering with the energy mix is harming the region. All six New England states made the top ten list of the most expensive states for electricity.

Most concerning, during the recent polar vortex, solar and wind power provided less than five percent of energy for electricity generation, about half of its regular contribution. ISO-New England, the nonprofit that controls the region’s electric power grid, is concerned about future electricity shortages because of the loss of traditional forms of energy.

Obama’s dreams of a high-speed rail line never developed, despite an $8 billion investment from his economic stimulus package. A number of states didn’t want the project, and California significantly cut back its high-speed rail plan.

California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom just radically modified the high-speed rail line that was going to connect San Francisco with Los Angeles. Instead, the governor cut back the rail project to link Bakersfield to Merced, stating the original plan was too costly and would take too long.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell R-Ky., wants the Senate to vote on the Green New Deal resolution. Essentially, McConnell is setting a political trap by getting Democrats’ views of the resolution on record.

Ironically, Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., who appeared with freshmen Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., in announcing the Green New Deal resolution, is complaining about the vote.

Markey claimed the vote is an effort “to sabotage the movement we are building” and “to silence your voice.”

The problem for Democrats is that money can’t change the laws of physics.

The new wave of socialist policies advocated by the extreme and radical elements in the Democrat Party is going to backfire big-time on Democrats in the 2020 elections. (For more from the author of “Green New Deal: Doubling down on stupid” please click HERE)

Trump Makes HUGE Statement About Declaring a National Emergency, Shocks GOP

By Politico. The surprise announcement Thursday that President Donald Trump will use his emergency powers to try and build his border wall blindsided some Republicans, confused others and sent the Senate GOP into a general state of shock.

The news, delivered by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on the Senate floor, came after weeks of warnings from his own party not to declare a national emergency at the border. . .

“I wish he wouldn’t have done it,” said Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who McConnell interrupted on the Senate floor to make his announcement. “If [Trump] figures that Congress didn’t do enough and he’s got to do it, then I imagine we’ll find out whether he’s got the authority to do it by the courts.”

“In general, I’m not for running the government by emergency, nor spending money. The Constitution’s pretty clear: spending originates and is directed by Congress,” said Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who like almost everyone else on Capitol Hill wants more information. “So I’m not really for it.” (Read more from “Trump Makes HUGE Statement About Declaring a National Emergency” HERE)

Report: Trump Declaring National Emergency for Border Funding

By Daily Wire. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Thursday that President Donald Trump will sign a spending bill to avoid another government shutdown and is declaring a national emergency to secure the funds needed to build the border wall.

“He’s prepared to sign the bill, he will also be issuing a national emergency declaration at the same time,” McConnell said. “And, I’ve indicated to him that I am going to support the national emergency declaration. So, for all of my colleagues: the president will sign the bill. We’ll be voting on it shortly. And, with that, I ask the chair to lay before the Senate the conference report to accompany House Joint Resolution 31.”

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement: “President Trump will sign the government funding bill, and as he has stated before, he will also take other executive action – including a national emergency – to ensure we stop the national security and humanitarian crisis at the border. The President is once again delivering on his promise to build the wall, protect the border, and secure our great country.”

“If Trump follows through, lawmakers and the White House would dodge their second partial shutdown since December, sparing about 800,000 federal workers from more financial pain,” CNBC reported. “But the emergency declaration would quickly spark lawsuits challenging the president’s authority, creating yet another fight over his key campaign promise.”

“The emergency declaration would allow Trump to redirect funds from other parts of the government to the project without congressional approval,” CNBC added. “The move could in part assuage conservative critics who argued the president should not accept the latest congressional plan, which denied him the funding he demanded for the border barrier.”

Congress To Vote On Yet Another Huge Spending Bill No One Has Read

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Congress rams through a massive piece of legislation costing hundreds of billions of dollars without bothering to read it. Meet Congress under a Democratic majority—same as under the old majority.

Late Wednesday evening, congressional leaders still had not publicly released their omnibus appropriations legislation, and were not planning to do so until near midnight—hardly an auspicious time to embark on reading a bill exceeding 1,000 pages:

. . .

Of all things, Politico reported that one of the major holdups preventing an earlier public release included provisions having nothing to do with government spending—or, for that matter, border security:

“Congressional leaders are still haggling over an extension of the landmark Violence Against Women Act—one of the final hold-ups in a funding deal to avert a shutdown on Friday….One dispute centers on a Democratic push to add protections for transgender people, which the GOP is resisting; meanwhile, Republicans want more time to negotiate a broader deal, according to lawmakers and aides.”

And particularly in this case, Democrats find giving people time to read the bill inconvenient. Even though government funds won’t expire until Friday at midnight—and Congress could always extend that funding temporarily, to allow for more time to review the bill—both chambers want to vote on Thursday. Because heaven forbid Congress 1) do actual work on a Friday and 2) delay their “recess” (read: vacation) and their overseas trips during same. (Democratic leaders claimed their members have been “sufficiently briefed”—because it’s very easy to “brief” someone on most, let alone all, of the contents of a 1,200 page bill.) Man With Violent Past Found With Loaded Homemade AR-15, List of Lawmakers

A judge sentenced a Texas man Thursday to eight years in prison after he was arrested with a gun he built while under a protective order barring him from possessing a firearm.

Eric Gerard McGinnis was sentenced to jail time after authorities apprehended McGinnis in a wooded forest firing off shots with a rifle he had assembled himself, according to CNN. The man also possessed a list labeled “9/11/2001 list of American Terrorists,” that included the names as well as home and work addresses of several Democratic and Republican lawmakers, according to NBC5.

Dallas police arrested McGinnis in July 2017. McGinnis was under a standing protective order barring him from possessing a firearm at the time of his arrest. The court issued the order in 2015 after he engaged in a violent encounter with his girlfriend, CNN reported.

McGinnis tried to buy a semi-automatic rifle from a gun shop in June 2016, but was turned away after a background check flagged the protective order barring McGinnis from buying a gun. McGinnis then used a 3-D printer to build the firing mechanism of a rifle. He gathered other gun parts including a barrel, stock, an upper receiver and grip, CNN reported. . .

“When he realized he couldn’t legally purchase a firearm, Eric McGinnis circumvented our gun laws by 3D-printing his weapon, eliminating the need for a background check,” U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas Nealy Cox said, according to NBC. “This office is committed to keeping guns out of the hands of those who violate protective orders for domestic violence, no matter how the guns are obtained — by theft, purchase or 3D printing,” Cox added. Omar Critics Note Her Hypocrisy After She Asks the Most Offensive Question Ever in a Congressional Hearing

What should America’s role be in Venezuela? It’s something Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Venezuela Envoy Elliott Abrams could not have been more at odds over at Wednesday’s House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing.

Omar began her questioning of Abrams by noting his involvement in the 1980s Iran-Contra Affair. He was accused of withholding information at the time but was later pardoned by President George H. W. Bush. Given that context, Omar wondered why Americans should consider anything Abrams says as “truthful.” . . .

Omar noted how Abrams called U.S. policy in El Salvador a “fabulous achievement,” despite reports that U.S.-trained troops massacred 800 civilians and raped and killed a 12-year-old girl.

Abrams, not giving any credence to Omar’s narrative, said that from the day Rodrigo Duterte was elected, El Salvador has been a democracy and that yes, he considers that a fabulous achievement.

Then, Omar asked an unbelievably offensive question, “Yes or no, do you think that massacre was a fabulous achievement that happened under our watch?”
