Porn Lawyer Accused of Embezzling Millions From Clients, Including a Mentally Ill Paraplegic

Two weeks ago, Michael Avenatti — the celebrity lawyer of porn star Stormy Daniels who once appeared on mainstream news outlets over 140 times in just 10 weeks and teased a potential Democratic presidential run for months — was slapped with a 36-count indictment for a wide range of charges, including fraud, perjury, and embezzlement. This week, some more details about the charges have come to light, and they include some jaw-dropping claims, including that Avenatti allegedly embezzled millions of settlement money that was supposed to go to the ex-wife of an NBA star. Previous reports have also revealed that Avenatti is accused of stealing millions that were supposed to go to a mentally ill paraplegic client.

On Sunday, the Los Angeles Times published a report detailing new information about some of the allegations Avenatti faces, particularly that he embezzled nearly $2 million of the $2.75 million paid by the Miami Heat’s Hassan Whiteside as part of a settlement with his ex-wife, Alexis Gardner.

Prosecutors claim that Whiteside wired the full $2.75 million to Avenatti in January 2017 with the agreement that he would pay another $250,000 in November 2020. According to the agreement, Avenatti was supposed to get about $1 million of the $3 million settlement, the rest going to Gardner. Instead, Avenatti allegedly took the entire $2.75 million up front and misled Gardner about what had been paid and when the rest was supposed to be transferred. The indictment alleges that Avenatti never even gave Gardner a copy of the settlement agreement.

The initial payment, the celebrity lawyer claimed, was only enough to cover his roughly $1 million in legal fees. Whiteside would be paying the rest of the $2 million in monthly installments over a period of 8 years, Avenatti allegedly told Gardner. . .

As egregious as this claim is, perhaps the most stunning is the allegation that Avenatti did something similar to a mentally ill paraplegic man, Geoffrey Ernest Johnson. The indictment alleges that Avenatti lied to Johnson several times, telling him that Los Angeles County had not paid a $4 million settlement up front, while using portions of the settlement to pay his personal and business expenses. Watch: Psycho Ocasio-Cortez Praises Horrific VA Healthcare

Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) made stunning remarks last week at a town hall in New York City, claiming that the broken healthcare system at the Department of Veterans Affairs provides “Cadillac first-class health care” to veterans.

In a video clip flagged by The Washington Free Beacon’s Brent Scher, Ocasio-Cortez praised the VA healthcare system, saying: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

“The idea that this thing that isn’t broken, this thing that provides the highest quality care to our veterans somehow needs to be fixed, optimized, tinkered with until you don’t even recognize it anymore,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Here’s the thing, they are trying to fix it, but who are they trying to fix it for is the question we’ve got to ask. They’re trying to fix the VA for pharmaceutical companies, they’re trying to fix the VA for insurance corporations, and ultimately they’re trying to fix the VA for a for-profit healthcare industry that does not put people or veterans first.” . . .

The problems with the VA healthcare system have been widely reported on in recent years. One notable story about the horrors veterans face in the VA healthcare system came in 2014, when CNN reported that “at least 40 U.S. veterans died waiting for appointments at the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care system, many of whom were placed on a secret waiting list.” (Read more from “Watch: Psycho Ocasio-Cortez Praises Horrific VA Healthcare” HERE)

Woman Brings Baby and Gun to Easter Service. Churchgoers Leap Into Action.

On Sunday, a 31-year-old female Navy veteran holding her 10-month-old son and a gun, strode into a San Diego Easter service, climbed on stage, and allegedly pronounced she was going to blow the church up. Churchgoers had a different idea, according to police: they tackled her.

The San Diego Police Department stated that they arrived at the auditorium of the Mount Everest Academy, where the services were being held, within two minutes of being alerted. They identified the woman and it is reported that she was speaking unintelligibly. Police stated that after they examined the gun, they found it was unloaded; the church’s pastor, Benjamin Wisan, stated that the woman had attended services at the church at other times prior to the incident. Police have reportedly been summoned to deal with her at the church before. . .

One post that the suspect allegedly made stated, “The one who came as Jesus was a liar!!! Another word for ‘The Comforter’ is The Advocate! Why would he say that unless he’s the Adversary??? Which means that since we’ve been worshipping him as God and believing everything he said, we’ve all be deceived. But the #greatdeception is even more than that…please read my video descriptions in this and in my other videos too!! I’m not trying to make a name for myself or anything—but this is finally the Truth!!!!!”

David Michael Miller, a military member who was one of the people reportedly subduing the suspect, told ABC 7, “After she started pointing the gun at the baby, one of the older gentlemen grabbed it from her and then me and a couple of other men tackled her. We got the baby away from her. A few minutes after that, the cops came in. She was trying to run away or something so a cop tackled her through a row of chairs. They arrested her and pulled another gun out of her bra.” (Read more from “Woman Brings Baby and Gun to Easter Service. Churchgoers Leap Into Action.” HERE)

Ilhan Omar Sides Against U.S. Soldiers in ‘Black Hawk Down’ Mission

Ilhan Omar sided against US soldiers in Battle of Mogadishu

A 2017 tweet from Somali-American Rep. Ilhan Omar — discovered by John Rossomando of the Investigative Project on Terrorism — appears to slam U.S. soldiers for their efforts in fighting a Somali warlord’s militia during the infamous Battle of Mogadishu.

“he forgets to also mention the thousands of Somalis killed by the American forces that day!” Omar tweeted, using the hashtag “#NotTodaySatan,” in response to a post commemorating the loss of 19 U.S. soldiers during the operation. The epic battle and the U.S. troops’ heroism and sacrifice during the campaign are depicted in the film “Black Hawk Down.”

Vladimir Putin emerges victorious from Mueller probe

Citing a former CIA station chief in Moscow, John Solomon of The Hill makes the case that Russia, and Vladimir Putin himself, emerged victorious as a result of the Mueller probe.

I made a similar argument in February 2018 in Conservative Review, writing that the Mueller probe itself “perfectly serves Russia’s agenda.”

North Korean regime takes shots at Bolton and Pompeo, but keeps Trump in good graces, for now

This weekend, regime officials in North Korea teed off against top U.S. officials Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and national security adviser John Bolton. Media outlets have taken notice of the apparent strategy to target everyone but the president. Some believe that Pyongyang appreciates the president’s less hostile rhetoric and prefers to negotiate with Trump rather than his deputies. Others see a more broad anti-American messaging campaign that is focused on forcing the president’s hand.

VOA reports:

“North Korea has directed a wave of criticism at top White House officials, as talks with the United States have stalled. But one person Pyongyang hasn’t criticized: Donald Trump.”

“The pattern reflects North Korea’s apparent preference to continue negotiating directly with Trump, who has taken a more conciliatory approach to the nuclear talks than many of his deputies,” the report adds. “It also appears to be a carefully calibrated effort by North Korea to increase negotiating pressure on the U.S. without completely derailing the talks.”

US tightens screws on Tehran regime, ends Iranian oil waivers for all nations

The U.S. State Department announced Monday that the Trump administration will discontinue waivers that allow select countries to continue to buy Iran-based energy and thwart U.S. sanctions.

“Today I am announcing that we will no longer granting any exemptions,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Monday. “We are going to zero. We are going to zero across the board.”

Eight countries had previously been granted oil waivers: China, Turkey, Japan, India, South Korea, Taiwan, Italy, and Greece.

The Tehran regime has lashed out against the decision and threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important choke point and a vital shipping route to the Persian Gulf.

Ukraine elects new president on populist platform

Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who is best known in the country as an actor and comedian, has ousted incumbent Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in a blowout.

“With over 90 percent of the ballots counted, Zelenskiy had 73 percent of the vote with Poroshenko at just under 25 percent,” NBC News reports.

“I’m not yet officially the president, but as a citizen of Ukraine, I can say to all countries in the post-Soviet Union look at us. Anything is possible!” the newly elected president said Sunday night during his victory speech.

Zelenskiy won the presidency on a largely populist platform, promising to enhance the transparency of the political process and to tackle political corruption within the country. (For more from the author of “Ilhan Omar Sides Against U.S. Soldiers in ‘Black Hawk Down’ Mission” please click HERE)

Far-Reaching Implications: Supreme Court to Rule on Whether LGBT Status Is a Protected Class Under the Civil Rights Act

The Supreme Court has agreed to rule on whether or not the Civil Rights Act needs further clarification to include LGBT people specifically as a protected class.

What’s the background?

Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act “prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex and national origin.” The question before the Supreme Court now is whether or not this protection for employers against sex-based discrimination already extends to sexual orientation, making it a protected class.

One of the plaintiffs in the cases being brought before the court involves a New York skydiving instructor named Donald Zarda. According to the lawsuit, Zarda told a female skydiving client that he was gay to ease her mind about being strapped to him while skydiving. He claimed he was fired in 2010 for divulging this information after the woman’s boyfriend complained to his employer.

Zarda would later die in a BASE-jumping accident in 2014, four years before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that he had been wrongfully terminated under Title VII.

Along with Zarda’s case, the court will hear the case of a Georgia child welfare services coordinator and a transgender funeral home worker from Michigan, who both attest that they were fired because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Lower courts have disagreed about whether or not Title VII protections apply in these cases, with the 6th Circuit Court ruling they do, and the 11th Circuit Court ruling that they do not. The Trump administration has also argued that Title VII only applies to discrimination based on birth gender and not orientation or transgender identity.

What else?

In addition to answering more general questions about discrimination, this ruling could also determine whether or not religious organizations or business owners have a right to refuse to employ or do business with gay or transgender people on the basis of their personal convictions.

The Supreme Court had refused to hear a similar case in 2017.

These cases are scheduled to be heard when the Supreme Court reconvenes for its next term in October. (For more from the author of “Far-Reaching Implications: Supreme Court to Rule on Whether LGBT Status Is a Protected Class Under the Civil Rights Act” please click HERE)

Mexican Soldiers Detain American Soldiers on U.S. Soil. Government Response: ?

The Mexican government is powerless to control the cartels at our border. But somehow when it comes to belligerently confronting our own soldiers on our own soil, the Mexicans seem to muster the personnel and temerity to defend their side of the border. Moreover, they apparently have the unbridled impudence to complain about armed American citizens defending our border, while they have permanently transformed our country in the worst way imaginable through their disrespect of our sovereignty. This is clearly no longer about immigration, but about a pure invasion that requires a military buildup.

On April 13, at around 2 p.m. Central Time, a group of five or six suspected Mexican soldiers approached an unmarked vehicle of two U.S. soldiers stationed at the border in El Paso County, Texas, and ordered them out of the vehicle. According to Newsweek, which obtained the “serious incident report,” the soldiers were in fact active duty members of B Battery, 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, not from a National Guard unit. The Mexican soldiers disarmed one of the U.S. soldiers and placed his sideaerm in the U.S. vehicle.

While the soldiers were parked south of the border fence near Clint, Texas, they were north of the Rio Grande riverbed, which placed them “appropriately in U.S. territory,” according to Maj. Mark Lazane, a spokesman for NORTHCOM. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Department of Defense (DOD), after inquiring of the Mexican government, were informed that the Mexican soldiers thought that the Americans were south of the border. “Throughout the incident, the U.S. soldiers followed all established procedures and protocols,” according to NORTHCOM.

NORTHCOM confirmed that there are approximately 2,800 service members assigned to the border mission. “This includes approximately 1,200 on the Mobile Surveillance Camera mission, plus about 1,000 service members hardening ports of entry in Texas and New Mexico. There are approximately 200 personnel as part of a crisis response force, with the remainder being headquarters and logistics personnel supporting the mission.”

When I asked both NORTHCOM and the State Department if our government had conveyed our concerns to Mexico and asked for an apology, both departments declined to comment.

Zach Taylor, a retired 26-year veteran of the Border Patrol who has formed a group of retired border agents to better educate the public on the border, told CR that he is convinced these Mexican soldiers were making a political statement. “At the reported location the Rio Grande River is distinct and easily identified in relation to the actual international boundary,” asserted Taylor, who still lives near the border in Arizona. “That one of the supposed Mexican soldiers took one sidearm from an American and put it in the American vehicle is curious, as if the Mexicans knew exactly who they encountered, where they were encountered, and were simply making a statement. What the purpose of that statement was is open to broad speculation, but on the face of it, this was probably political – as in showing that to Mexico, borders mean nothing.” Taylor confirmed that he regularly saw this behavior during his time in the Border Patrol.

We have tens of thousands of soldiers stationed in other parts of the world fully equipped for war and with at least manageable rules of engagement. Why are the soldiers at our own border too few, so lightly armed, and seeking to “de-escalate a potentially volatile situation” of Mexican aggression rather than deterring it?

What is particularly disturbing about this incident is that one could defend Mexico’s powerless response to this border crisis and the robust cartel and smuggler activity as a lack of resources to secure its own border from non-state actors. But why is it that the Mexican government suddenly has the ability to cross into our own country and detain our own personnel, but is seemingly powerless to deal with the cartels on its own side of the border?

What is also disturbing is the lackluster response from our own government, juxtaposed to its aggressive posture against private militia groups seeking to secure our border. Our government refuses to hold the line at the border and defend the ranches from cartel activity by placing the military there in meaningful numbers and with a heavy deterrent. They certainly are not deterring the migrants. Just last week, 12,500 more illegals were released into our country with no regard for the public charge, safety concerns, or potential contagious diseases. That is literally the number one job of our federal government, as distinct from a state government. While nobody wants to see vigilantes patrolling our border, they are clearly not the problem, but a symptom of the lack of government control over our sovereignty.

Yet it appears that the FBI has arrested a leader of one New Mexico militia that recently detained a group of illegal immigrants until Border Patrol was able to get to the scene. On Saturday, the FBI arrested Larry Hopkins, the “national commander” of the United Constitutional Patriots, on firearms charges two days after the ACLU complained about the presence of this group at Sunland Park, New Mexico. According to Reuters, this is a group of mainly military veterans who have detained as many as 5,600 aliens until Border Patrol was able to arrive.

Why is it that our government, which appears unable or unwilling to deal with Mexican aggression, the cartels, or illegal immigration, is suddenly pursuing a zero-tolerance policy for American militias seeking to do a job the federal government won’t do? Failing to secure our borders is a breach of the social contract of government, as laid out in the Declaration of Independence, and if there is anything that would ever justify the citizenry to take action, it is this issue. It’s not something we want to see, but where is our own government in dealing with the problem?

Mexico’s Foreign Relations Ministry expressed its “deep concern” that these militia groups would “drive human rights abuses of people who migrate or request asylum or refuge in the United States.” That’s a pretty rich statement from a government that evidently refuses to apologize for stepping on our soil and detaining our own soldiers.

It’s also self-evident from this statement that Mexico, rather than working with us to stop this bogus asylum-seeking, is helping encourage it.

The president would be wise to announce a buildup of the military in Texas and New Mexico and change the rules of engagement. He should also renegotiate NAFTA while making border and immigration issues the main sticking points.

If our government would only go after those violating our sovereignty with as much rigor as they do those American veterans trying to defend it, justifiably or not, this entire issue would go away. As Trump often says, either we are a country, or we are not. (For more from the author of “Mexican Soldiers Detain American Soldiers on U.S. Soil. Government Response: ?” please click HERE)

Trump Fires Back at Romney, and He Included a Video

President Donald Trump fired back at Mitt Romney Saturday after the Utah senator released a statement on Friday sharply criticizing the president’s actions as described in the Mueller report.

“If @MittRomney spent the same energy fighting Barack Obama as he does fighting Donald Trump, he could have won the race (maybe)!” Trump tweeted with a short video that juxtaposed footage of his own 2016 electoral victory over Hillary Clinton with Romney’s 2012 loss to President Barack Obama. . .

“I am sickened at the extent and pervasiveness of dishonesty and misdirection by individuals in the highest office of the land, including the President,” [Romney] wrote. “I am also appalled that, among other things, fellow citizens working in a campaign for president welcomed help from Russia — including information that had been illegally obtained; that none of them acted to inform American law enforcement; and that the campaign chairman was actively promoting Russian interests in Ukraine. Reading the report is a sobering revelation of how far we have strayed from the aspirations and principles of the founders.” (Read more from “Trump Fires Back at Romney, and He Included a Video” HERE)

Guess What the Ninth Circuit Had to Say About Sanctuary Cities

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday upheld a lower court decision that ruled said sanctuary cities do not conflict with federal immigration laws. The decision comes after the Trump administration challenged multiple aspects of California’s sanctuary city designation, which protects illegal aliens from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

From the Times of San Diego:

The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Senate Bill 54, otherwise known as the California Values Act, overriding the federal government’s assertion that it violates the Constitution’s supremacy clause that states federal law preempts state law when the two are at odds.

The court also upheld two other laws named in the suit, AB 103 and AB 450, which allow the state attorney general to limit expansion of immigration detention facilities and require employers within the state to tell workers when their citizenship may be inspected by federal officials, respectively.

“SB 54 may well frustrate the federal government’s immigration enforcement efforts,” the court said. “However, whatever the wisdom of the underlying policy adopted by California, that frustration is permissible, because California has the right, pursuant to the anticommandeering rule, to refrain from assisting with federal efforts.” (Read more from “Guess What the Ninth Circuit Had to Say About Sanctuary Cities” HERE)

Newly Resurfaced Video Highlights Nancy Pelosi’s Glaring Hypocrisy on the Mueller Report

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday blasted Attorney General William Barr for allowing President Donald Trump’s personal legal team the opportunity to review special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation report before its public release.

But Pelosi’s pearl clutching was marred with hypocrisy after video surfaced showing that Pelosi once advocated for the exact opposite position — when it would have benefited a Democrat. . .

After Barr confirmed during his press conference on Thursday that Trump’s personal attorneys reviewed a redacted version of the report prior to its public release, Pelosi alleged Barr had “confirmed the staggering partisan effort by the Trump Admin to spin public’s view of the #MuellerReport.”

As NTK pointed out, Pelosi said in 1998 that then-President Bill Clinton had the right to review the Ken Starr report, which detailed Clinton’s sex scandal with Monica Lewinsky.

During debate over a bill that called for the immediate public release of the report, Pelosi told then-House Speaker Newt Gingrich that Clinton had a right to read the report before Congress — let alone the public.
