Biden Orders Assessment of ‘Domestic Violent Extremism’ Threat

President Biden on Friday ordered the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to conduct a “comprehensive threat assessment” on “domestic violent extremism” along with the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters at the White House.

Psaki said Biden wants “fact-based analysis to shape policy,” the building of National Security Council “capacity” to counter “domestic violent extremism,” and the “coordinating of relevant parts of government to accelerate and enhance” the effort.

The issuing of the order on Biden’s second full day along with the intent to “accelerate” the initiative confirmed the disclosure Thursday by former Obama CIA Director John Brennan, that — amid calls by Democratic leaders to “deprogram” and “reeducate” Trump supporters — the Biden team was “moving in laser-light fashion” to root out an “unholy alliance” that includes “religious extremists” and libertarians.

While Biden has not specified the targets of his “domestic violent extremism” thrust, he touched on the issue in his inaugural address Wednesday, speaking of “a rise of political extremism, white supremacy, domestic terrorism that we must confront and we will defeat.”

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., said in a Fox News interview on Wednesday that he understood Biden to be referencing the entire opposition to Democrats on the right: “If you read his speech and listen to it carefully, much of it is thinly veiled innuendo, calling us white supremacists, calling us racists, calling us every name in the book.” (Read more from “Biden Orders Assessment of ‘Domestic Violent Extremism’ Threat” HERE)

Reports: Nearly 200 National Guard Members Test Positive for COVID-19 After Inauguration

Nearly 200 National Guard members who deployed to Washington, DC, after a riot at the Capitol and in advance of the inauguration, have either tested positive for COVID-19 or are quarantining in nearby hotels, according to reports.

Politico reported Friday that more than a hundred National Guard members have tested positive for COVID-19 and several hundred more are quarantining in hotels. The outlet reported that some Guard members are being forced to find their own tests and others were being pressured to leave quarantine and report to duty.

Guard leadership has declined to release an official number of positive cases, but troops and lawmakers alike worry that the deployment is becoming a superspreader event.

California Is the Worst State at Vaccine Distribution

The State of California became the worst of the 50 states in distributing its share of coronavirus vaccines on Thursday, as other states picked up their pace.

Despite improving from 27.5% last week to 37.3% this week, California is “dead last,” as SFGate.com reported Friday:

Thursday’s update to Bloomberg’s vaccine tracker shows that the national rate increased from 38.8% last week to 48.6% this week. Last week’s 50th-ranked state was Alabama, which saw its usage rate jump from 21.2% to 41.1% week-over-week. For reference, California was ranked 49th last week.

This week, the 49th, 48th and 47th ranked states in order are Minnesota (39.8%), Virginia (40.2%) and Alabama (41.1%). The top three states are North Dakota (82.8%), West Virginia (73.0%) and New Mexico (68.6%).

Mitch McConnell Has Proposed a Timeline for Trump’s Second Impeachment Trial

By Townhall. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) proposed a timeline on Thursday for the Senate to hold its second impeachment trial of now-former President Donald Trump. House Democrats and a handful of GOP members rushed through an eleventh-hour article of impeachment in a knee-jerk reaction to the riot at the U.S. Capitol earlier this month.

McConnell has proposed taking up the president’s latest impeachment in February to give the former president time to mount a defense. McConnell said in a statement that he has sent the proposed timeline to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

McConnell is asking for the article of impeachment to arrive at the Senate on Thursday, January 28, at which time the article would be read before the Senate by House Managers. Former President Trump would have one week from that day, so Feb. 4, to answer the article against him, and the House’s pre-trail brief would also be due on this day. Trump would have one week from then, till Feb. 11, to submit his pre-trial brief, and the House’s replication would be due at the same time. Trump Hires Defense Lawyer for Second Senate Impeachment Trial

By NBC News. Former President Donald Trump has started putting together the defense team for his historic second Senate impeachment trial, starting with hiring South Carolina-based lawyer Butch Bowers.

Trump adviser Jason Miller, who announced the hiring on Twitter, said Bowers “is well respected by both Republicans and Democrats and will do an excellent job defending President Trump.” Miller would not say whether others had signed on or whether Bowers would be the sole lawyer representing Trump.

Republican senators were briefed about Bowers’ involvement on a GOP conference call Thursday afternoon, two people familiar with the discussions said. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., mentioned that he had recommended Bowers to Trump, the sources said.

Asked later about Trump’s legal team, Graham told reporters: “Well, I think he’s going to have a good one. Butch Bowers, I think, will be the sort of anchor tenant. Twitter Refused to Remove Child Porn Because It Didn’t ‘Violate Policies’

By Breitbart. Twitter repeatedly told the victim of child sexual abuse that a video of his ordeal circulating on the platform didn’t violate the platform’s policies, according to a lawsuit filed on the victim’s behalf by the National Center on Sexual Exploitation.

The victim, anonymized in the lawsuit as John Doe, alleges that Twitter allowed the video of his abuse — filmed when he was 13 years old — to accumulate hundreds of thousands of views.

According to the lawsuit, Twitter only eventually complied after an agent from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) got involved with the case.

Twitter Refused to Remove Child Porn Because It Didn’t ‘Violate Policies’: Lawsuit

By New York Post. Twitter refused to take down widely shared pornographic images and videos of a teenage sex trafficking victim because an investigation “didn’t find a violation” of the company’s “policies,” a scathing lawsuit alleges.

The federal suit, filed Wednesday by the victim and his mother in the Northern District of California, alleges Twitter made money off the clips, which showed a 13-year-old engaged in sex acts and are a form of child sexual abuse material, or child porn, the suit states.

The teen — who is now 17 and lives in Florida — is identified only as John Doe and was between 13 and 14 years old when sex traffickers, posing as a 16-year-old female classmate, started chatting with him on Snapchat, the suit alleges.

Doe and the traffickers allegedly exchanged nude photos before the conversation turned to blackmail: If the teen didn’t share more sexually graphic photos and videos, the explicit material he’d already sent would be shared with his “parents, coach, pastor” and others, the suit states.

Democrats Rally to Purge ‘Extremists’ and Trump Voters From Military (VIDEO); Guardsmen Feeling Betrayed and Used After Getting Kicked Out of the Capitol

By The Federalist. Following the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, Democrats are now calling for and encouraging the vetting of National Guard members[.]

“When you have Guardsmen and women coming from all over the nation at this time, I do think that it is prudent to make sure that they are being vetted and that anybody who cannot pledge allegiance to their missions, and may be pulled by other views, needs not only to be removed from this duty, they need to be removed from the Guard,” D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said on Tuesday.

Just days before, Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., explained a similar concept to CNN’s Jim Sciutto, saying that even though “the guard is 90-some-odd-percent male … only about 20 percent of white males voted for Biden.”

“You’ve got to figure that in the Guard, which is predominantly more conservative — I see that on my social media, and we know it. They’re probably not more than 25 percent of the people that are there protecting us who voted for Biden,” Cohen said. “The other 75 percent are in the class, the large class of folks, who might want to do something.”

Biden’s pick for secretary of defense, Gen. Lloyd Austin, also pledged to “rid our [Pentagon and U.S. military] ranks of racists and extremists” during his Senate confirmation hearing.

Guardsmen Feeling Betrayed and Used After Getting Kicked Out of the Capitol

By Townhall. The thousands of National Guardsmen stationed at the U.S. Capitol and nearby congressional buildings were abruptly told to vacate the premises on Thursday.

A new report in Politico says the Guardsmen were told by Capitol Police to leave the Capitol premises and set up mobile command centers outside or in nearby hotels. The Guardsmen were also told to take rest breaks during their 12-hour shifts either outside or in nearby parking garages.

The report cited a Guardsmen whose unit was suddenly told to vacate the Dirksen Senate Office Building where troops had gathered following a long couple of days at the Capitol complex. The 5,000 troops in the unit were reportedly forced to “rest” on the hard floors of a parking garage that lacked internet reception, contained a single electrical outlet, and a lone bathroom with just two stalls.

“Yesterday dozens of senators and congressmen walked down our lines taking photos, shaking our hands and thanking us for our service. Within 24 hours, they had no further use for us and banished us to the corner of a parking garage. We feel incredibly betrayed,” a Guardsman told Politico. Biden to Reverse Policy Preventing Taxpayer Dollars From Funding Abortions Abroad

President Biden is set to allow federal funds to be used for abortions abroad, by rolling back the Mexico City Policy renewed by the Trump administration, Dr. Anthony Fauci said.

“It will be our policy to support women’s and girls’ sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights in the United States, as well as globally,” Fauci said during remarks to the World Health Organization. “To that end, President Biden will be revoking the Mexico City Policy in the coming days, as part of his broader commitment to protect women’s health and advance gender equality at home and around the world.”

Tara Reade, the former aide to Joe Biden who accused the then-senator of sexual assault, said that watching Inauguration Day was especially painful for her this year. . .

In 2020, Reade accused the former senator of forcibly kissing her and digitally penetrating her without her consent during an incident she said took place in 1993. . .

According to a Wednesday report from the Daily Caller News Foundation, Reade said that President Biden’s inauguration was “unspeakably hard to watch.”

“Coming forward about being sexually harassed and assaulted in 1993 when I was Joe Biden’s staffer was excruciating on so many levels,” Reade said. “Biden used his power and resources with certain media to erase me and silence me.”

She added, “I stand in solidarity with all survivors coming up against such power. I will not be silenced. Instead of talking about saving the country’s soul he should be held accountable for his actions. The hard part is I believe in many policies that will move forward as I am a progressive Independent but it is unspeakably hard to watch the man who assaulted me go to the most powerful position in the land.”

Biden Admin Faced Day One Controversy Over Change to U.S. Ambassador to Israel Twitter Account

The Biden administration on Wednesday stirred controversy on day one by temporarily changing the Twitter account for the U.S. Ambassador to Israel before reversing the change after a report from the Washington Free Beacon called attention to it.

The Twitter account, which was most recently operated by former Ambassador David Friedman, was changed to read, “U.S. Ambassador to Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza,” after Friedman vacated his office. The modified account drew heavy criticism from Republican lawmakers and others who thought that the change suggested the United States would not recognize Israeli control over the West Bank and Gaza amid the ongoing dispute between Israel and the Palestinians. . .

The Trump administration’s Middle East policy placed a strong emphasis on strengthening ties with Israel. In 2017, Trump became the first U.S. president to keep his campaign promise of moving the embassy to Jerusalem and recognizing the city as Israel’s capital, a move that infuriated Palestinians who have long claimed the city as their own.
