Biden Pentagon Chief Says ‘No, Thank You’ to Trump Recommendations

The recommendations of a slew of last-minute Defense Department advisers put in place by former President Donald Trump will not see the light of day after Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin canceled their appointments.

Traditionally nonpartisan, volunteer boards that had included technical and diplomatic experts such as Henry Kissinger were dumped in the final days of the Trump presidency in favor of former campaign advisers and Republican Party stalwarts.

Austin opted against moving forward with those eleventh-hour Trump appointees, suspending all Pentagon advisory board activities until June 1 while a review is conducted. He has asked the members of those panels to resign or be dismissed by Feb. 16. . .

In all, 42 defense boards and committees, including the Defense Business Board and the Defense Policy Board, will be under a microscope while Pentagon officials evaluate their value and look for unnecessary duplication. Confused Kamala Harris Warns of West Virginia’s ‘Abandoned Land Mines’

Last week, Vice President Kamala Harris gave an exclusive interview to a local television news station in West Virginia.

In the interview, Harris was asked about the state’s coal industry. She reassured West Virginia coal miners that even if their jobs disappear under the Biden administration — and the implication was clear that they would disappear — mine workers could transfer their skills to new industries. She then listed several exciting new careers coal miners could consider. The first of these was, and I quote: “reclaiming abandoned land mines.”

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Are there really that many abandoned land mines lying around in West Virginia? Enough to make a whole job industry out of minesweeping?” And: “Is it safe to go hiking there?”

Friends, I asked this too. As a West Virginia resident myself, the question is urgent. Admittedly, I have never once encountered a land mine in two decades of living here, but I may have just been lucky (there was that one time the neighbor’s cat left something in our driveway, and my family all stepped in it on the way to church, but I don’t think that counts). . .

But let’s return to Vice President Harris. According to Politico, she meant to say “abandoned mine lands,” not “abandoned land mines.” Well, okay. We all make mistakes. It’s just that someone familiar with mining terminology, or military terminology — and, you know, a lot of West Virginians are familiar with both — would probably not make that particular mistake. Joe Biden Seeks to Surge Foreign-Born Voting Population Ahead of Elections

President Joe Biden is looking to surge the number of legal immigrants who become naturalized American citizens, and thus are eligible to vote, ahead of the 2022 midterms and 2024 presidential election.

In an executive order on Tuesday, Biden ordered multiple federal agencies to work to boost the rates of legal immigrants becoming naturalized citizens.

The order seeks to “eliminate barriers in and otherwise improve the existing naturalization process … [and] substantially reduce current naturalization processing times … [and] make the naturalization process more accessible to all eligible individuals, including through a potential reduction of the naturalization fee and restoration of the fee waiver process.”

The order creates the “Interagency Working Group on Promoting Naturalization” that includes the Department of Homeland Security, the Labor Department, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of House and Urban Development, the Department of Education, the Social Security Administration, and other federal agencies to “develop a national strategy to promote naturalization.” (Read more from “Joe Biden Seeks to Surge Foreign-Born Voting Population Ahead of Elections” HERE)

WATCH: Dem Senator Lists the Reasons Biden’s One Executive Order Was a Fatal Mistake; House Republicans Introduce Bill to Reauthorize Keystone XL Pipeline

By Townhall. Montana Senator Jon Tester (D) on Tuesday said President Joe Biden’s decision to cancel the Keystone XL Pipeline was a mistake. He came to the conclusion based on his personal experience as a farmer.

“I’ve been a supporter of the Keystone Pipeline. There have been two caveats and they’ve been basic caveats: you do it to the safety standards and you respect private property rights. I think the Keystone Pipeline folks could have done a better getting the Fort Peck Tribe on board and they need to continue working to do that but in the end I think it’s a good project,” Tester explained. “I believe in climate change but I also think this one pipeline isn’t going to turn it around, isn’t going to turn our climate around. It’s not going to make it a markedly worse situations.”

The Montana senator said he supports the Keystone Pipeline but he also supports research diving into greenhouse gas emissions, such as carbon dioxide, that are released into the air.

“These might sound like two different philosophies butting heads but I’ll tell you, in my real life, I’m a farmer,” he said. “And we’re not where we need to be in this country for replacing diesel fuel with something else, in a tractor, for example, or a semi that’s going down the road.”

House Republicans Introduce Bill to Reauthorize Keystone XL Pipeline Following Biden’s Executive Overreach

By Townhall. A large group of House Republicans, led by North Dakota Congressman Kelly Armstrong, introduced legislation that aims to preserve the Keystone XL Pipeline. The Keystone XL Pipeline Construction and Jobs Preservation Act greenlights construction and operation of the pipeline, and deems a presidential permit unnecessary. The resolution is a direct rebuke to President Biden’s move to pause construction of the pipeline, which will cause an influx of job loss.

The legislation is co-sponsored by a total of 85 House Republican lawmakers, including GOP Leader Kebin McCarthy (CA), Whip Steve Scalise (LA), and Conference Chair Liz Cheney (WY).

Jeff Bezos to Step Down as Amazon CEO; Meet the Man Taking Over Jeff Bezos’ Role

By CNBC. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos will leave his post later this year, turning the helm over to the company’s top cloud executive, Andy Jassy, according to an announcement Tuesday. Bezos will transition to executive chairman of Amazon’s board.

Bezos, 57, founded Amazon in 1994 and has since morphed the one-time online bookstore into a mega-retailer with global reach in a slew of different categories from gadgets to groceries to streaming. Amazon surpassed a $1 trillion market cap under Bezos’ leadership in January of last year — it’s now worth more than $1.6 trillion.

The company had kept its succession plans quiet, though onlookers speculated that either Jassy or Jeff Wilke, CEO of Amazon’s worldwide consumer business, would be Bezos’ eventual successor. In August Amazon announced Wilke will retire in 2021. Jassy, 53, will become CEO in the third quarter.

Jassy joined Amazon in 1997 and has led Amazon’s Web Services cloud team since its inception. AWS continues to drive much of Amazon’s profit. (Read more from “Jeff Bezos to Step Down as Amazon CEO” HERE)

Meet the Man Taking Over Jeff Bezos’ Role

By New York Post. Andy Jassy is set to take over the reigns of Amazon after Jeff Bezos announced on Tuesday that he’d be stepping down as CEO of his e-commerce empire.

Jassy, 53, started with the company as a marketing manager in 1997 — just three years after it was founded by Bezos — and, over the next decades, helped to turn Amazon into a profitable tech firm. . .

Jassy currently leads the company’s cloud computing offshoot, Amazon Web Services, which provides a range of online services for businesses.

A graduate of Harvard Business School, Jassy founded AWS in 2003 and became its CEO in 2016.

Under Jassy’s leadership, the division grew to a cloud platform used by millions, signing major customers including Verizon, McDonald’s and Honeywell. (Read more from “Meet the Man Taking Over Jeff Bezos’ Role” HERE)

Man Convicted of Sexually Assaulting, Murdering Toddler to Be Released

An Illinois man convicted of sexually assaulting and murdering a toddler he was babysitting in 1997 is set to be released at the end of the month after serving half of his 48-year prison sentence, according to a report.

He’s expected to be released on Feb. 25, the same day Quortney died 24 years ago, according to the outlet.

Margaret Morgan couldn’t believe her daughter’s killer was going to be a free man soon. (Read more from “Man Convicted of Sexually Assaulting, Murdering Toddler to Be Released” HERE)

GameStop Rout Erases $27 Billion

GameStop Corp.’s rally came to a screeching halt this week as the shares had their biggest one-day loss on record, erasing more than $27 billion in market value from their high.

The stock, which has been the focus of Redditors looking to squeeze short-sellers, fell 60% on Tuesday, closing below $100 for the first time in a week. Several other Reddit favorites — including movie-theater chain AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. and clothing retailer Express Inc. — also tumbled.

GameStop’s retreat has coincided with a sharp reduction in short interest after bearish investors appeared to cover their positions. That loosened a squeeze on the stock caused by day traders who used Reddit forums to tout and bid up out-of-favor stocks that also included American Airlines Group Inc. and BlackBerry Ltd.

“With GameStop, if you trade now you are presumably betting on what happens tomorrow or next week,” said Craig Birk, chief investment officer at Personal Capital. “There are online pleas to buy and hold, but this does not feel like a buy and hold situation.” (Read more from “GameStop Rout Erases $27 Billion” HERE)

Indigenous Rights Group to Protest Kansas City Chiefs Over ‘Dehumanizing’ Name

The Kansas City Chiefs will arrive in Tampa this week as defending Super Bowl champs and the bearers of a divisive name.

Ahead of kickoff for Super Bowl 55 on Sunday, a local group plans to stage a protest at Raymond James Stadium to urge the team to ditch the “Chiefs” moniker out of respect for Native American people.

The St. Petersburg-based Florida Indigenous Rights and Environmental Equality, or FIREE, wants to call attention to how hurtful the team’s name is to indigenous people who see their culture and spirituality appropriated and caricatured by fans who wear headdresses and war paint and swing their arms in an Arrowhead Chop, said group co-founder Alicia Norris.

“When you make indigenous people into a mascot, it’s extremely dehumanizing, especially for children,” Norris said. “This is coming to our backyard, so we’re going to say something about it.” (Read more from “Indigenous Rights Group to Protest Kansas City Chiefs Over ‘Dehumanizing’ Name” HERE)

U.S. School Demands Christian Girl Attend Explicit Sex-Ed Class

Officials at a prestigious public magnet school in Illinois have been warned that state law forbids them from requiring a student to go through a “gender and sexuality” program to graduate if it violates the student’s religious beliefs.

First Liberty Institute issued the warning to officials at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, or IMSA, in Aurora, Illinois. The institute is representing Phillip and Christine McBride and their daughter, Marcail.

“The McBrides have repeatedly communicated that participating in the program violates Marcail’s religious beliefs, yet the school continues to pressure Marcail, demanding that she complete the program or face punishment,” stated the letter.

“We demand that you follow the requirements under state law and grant Marcail’s request not to participate.”

The letter, delivered Tuesday, demands a response by 5 p.m. Wednesday. (Read more from “U.S. School Demands Christian Girl Attend Explicit Sex-Ed Class” HERE)

Prof Wishes Death for Trump Supporters

A professor wished death on supporters of President Trump in a tweet, but his university says he’s facing no consequences because no one has filed an “official complaint.”

The College Fix reported the tweet from Mark Alfano of Macquarie University in Australia, who recently received a grant of nearly $1 million to study “intellectual humility” toward political opponents.

Under the online name Neon Trotsky, he shared a newspaper statement about the death of a Trump supporter during the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

. . .The College Fix said he taught at the University of Oregon from 2013 to 2015. He then did research at Princeton and taught at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands before moving to Macquarie. (Read more from “Prof Wishes Death for Trump Supporters” HERE)
