COVID Restrictions Had No Effect On Case Rates

Nearly a year after California Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered the nation’s first statewide shut down because of the coronavirus, masks remain mandated, indoor dining and other activities are significantly limited, and Disneyland remains closed.

By contrast, Florida has no statewide restrictions. Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has prohibited municipalities from fining people who refuse to wear masks. And Disney World has been open since July.

Despite their differing approaches, California and Florida have experienced almost identical outcomes in COVID-19 case rates. . .

California and Florida both have a COVID-19 case rate of around 8,900 per 100,000 residents since the pandemic began, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And both rank in the middle among states for COVID-19 death rates—Florida was 27th as of Friday; California was 28th.

Connecticut and South Dakota are other examples. Both rank among the 10 worst states for COVID-19 death rates. Yet Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont, a Democrat, imposed numerous statewide restrictions over the past year after an early surge in deaths, while South Dakota Gov. UK Military Commander: West Must Stop Ceding Strategic Initiative To China, Russia

The UK and the West in general may be forced to capitulate “without a shot being fired” if they continue “ceding the strategic initiative” to rivals such as China and Russia, a senior British military commander has said.

“While we drained our strength in interventions like Iraq, others used the time and space to further their interests more strategically,” General Sir Patrick Sanders, commander of the UK’s Strategic Command, wrote in The Times of London on Saturday.

“China has pursued a strategy of winning without fighting, changing the terms of the international order,” he said.

Both China and Russia are “gaining a decisive advantage in military information-age technologies,” he added.

“The consequence has been a succession of strategic surprises, the erosion of strategic advantage, and the loss of initiative. Mainstream Media: Wear a Mask While Exercising and Showering. Maybe Even Two

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention rolled out some guidelines for exercising, and this week NBC News explained them for us. Among the most notable guidelines, as NBC emphasized, is the charge to wear a mask while you’re exercising inside at the gym. . .

However anti-science the new CDC guidelines might be, NCB News didn’t just report the changes. It also talked to a few so-called experts and offered us some coronavirusey fitness suggestions of its own — and they’re absurd.

Jessica Steier and Andrea Love, who host “The Unbiased Science Podcast,” “explained that when you exercise, you have more forceful and rapid respiration. This means you’re exhaling and inhaling a larger volume of air,” said NBC News. “In turn, the relative risk of exposure to Covid droplets may be increased compared to standing still in the same space. And physical distancing alone won’t protect you.”

It’s immediately clear that neither Steier, Love, nor anybody in the NBC editorial chain exercises — or at least they’re hoping their readers don’t, passing off these laughable recommendations with a straight face. Of course you inhale and exhale “a larger volume of air” when you’re working out. That’s one of the reasons wearing a mask while you’re doing it is so zany. . .

It gets better. One of NBC News’s exercise tips is: “It’s best to avoid the showers if possible, since you can’t get masks wet — otherwise they lose their efficacy. If you need to shower at the gym, shower as quickly as possible and only remove your mask when your face and head is going to get wet.”

Ghislaine Maxwell’s brother says that none of the accused sex trafficker’s family members knew where she was before her arrest — nor that she had been married for years.

Complaining that his sister was being unfairly portrayed as a “monstrous creature,” Ian Maxwell told The Sunday Times of London that it was “simply a lie” that the media heiress had been hiding out from cops.

Yet despite insisting she was merely laying low from the press, he admitted that none of his family knew her address or even her phone number — and could only make contact through her lawyers.

He justified her extreme secrecy by saying that “people are able to eavesdrop, to hack.”

Beyond Creepy: 150,000 Security Cameras Hacked

The Electronic Privacy Information Center long has warned that security cameras in Amazon’s Ring network can be hacked.

The doorbell cameras are part of the largely “unregulated surveillance and data collection” systems that contemporary technology has made possible, EPIC noted Friday. Ring cameras often capture images to which facial recognition software can be applied, the organization has warned.

Now, EPIC is spotlighting a breach of surveillance cameras linked by Verkada, a surveillance company that has services in hospitals, schools, homes and prisons.

The hack of the system exposed video from some 150,000 security cameras, EPIC said.

The Washington Post reported Thursday that in one hacked video, “a woman in a hospital room watches over someone sleeping in an intensive-care-unit bed. Meghan Markle Reportedly Networking With Democrats, Eyes Bid For U.S. President

Meghan Markle is reportedly already networking with senior Democrats to help her ambitions to become the first female US president.

The Duchess of Sussex previously told friends about her political ambitions — and now hopes her blockbuster Oprah Winfrey interview will strengthen support in the US, sources told the Mail on Sunday newspaper.

She has been openly networking among senior Democrats to help build fundraising teams and a campaign for the White House, according to a senior UK politician who served under former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and has close ties to Washington.

“The Blairite, internationalist and Democratic party networks are buzzing with talk about Meghan’s political ambitions and potential backers,” the anonymous source told the UK paper.

Markle, 39, is thought to be looking at the 2024 campaign if President Biden, who will be 82, decides against running for a second term, the source said. Biden: Obey Dr. Fauci or You’ll Be Locked Down Past July 4; Healthy Mom Dies After Second Vaccine Dose

By The Federalist. President Joe Biden threatened Americans to obey Dr. Anthony Fauci’s pandemic edicts Thursday in a prime-time address on the one-year anniversary of the first coronavirus lockdowns.

“We need everyone to get vaccinated. We need everyone to keep washing their hands. We need everyone to keep wearing the mask,” Biden said from the White House, after telling the American people if they follow Dr. Anthony Fauci’s orders, they might get to spend the 4th of July holiday with their friends and neighbors. But, Biden maintained, “that doesn’t mean large events.”

No guarantees were offered for re-opening even as the president pledged every American adult would be eligible for a coronavirus vaccine by May 1.

Utah Mom Dies Four Days After 2nd Dose of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine

By KRON 4. An autopsy has been ordered after a Utah mom died just four days after receiving the second dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, KUTV reports.

Kassidi Kurill, mother of one, got the vaccine due to her work as a surgical technician for several plastic surgeons, the local news outlet reports. . .

According to Kurill’s father, her arm was sore after the first shot and she experienced no other side effects, but it was when she received her second dose things went wrong.

Kurill landed in the ER, where “she was very, very sick, and her liver was not functioning,” Hawley told KUTV. . .

Ban on 205 Different ‘Assault Weapons’ Introduced by Dems

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) on Thursday introduced a ban on more than 200 “assault weapons” after the House passed two gun-control measures pertaining to background checks.

Her bill (pdf), called the “Assault Weapons Ban of 2021,” is co-sponsored by 34 Senate Democrats and would ban ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds—similar to the bans on magazines in New York state and California.

According to the legislation, which was also introduced in the House by Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.), the ban would encompass more than 205 rifles. Feinstein’s bill would allow current owners of the guns to retain possession of them. If that gun is transferred, a person has to undergo an FBI background check before getting the firearm.

The bill also bans any weapon that has the capacity to use a magazine that isn’t a fixed ammunition magazine and has one or more characteristics such as a pistol grip, forward grip, a threaded barrel, a folding or telescoping stock, or a barrel shroud.

The bill “requires that grandfathered assault weapons are stored using a secure gun storage or safety device like a trigger lock” and prohibits the transfer of high-capacity ammunition magazines while banning “bump-fire stocks and other devices that allow semi-automatic weapons to fire at fully automatic rates,” according to a news release from Feinstein’s office. Former Top State Dept Investigator Says COVID-19 Outbreak May Have Resulted From Bioweapons Research Accident

As top U.S. officials prepare to meet their Chinese counterparts for their first face-to-face meeting during the Biden administration, the State Department’s former lead investigator who oversaw the Task Force into the COVID-19 virus origin tells Fox News that he not only believes the virus escaped from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, but that it may have been the result of research that the Chinese military, or People’s Liberation Army, was doing on a bioweapon.

“The Wuhan Institute of Virology is not the National Institute of Health,” David Asher, now a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute told Fox News in an exclusive interview. “It was operating a secret, classified program. In my view, and I’m just one person, my view is it was a biological weapons program.”

Asher has long been a “follow the money” guy who has worked on some of the most classified intelligence investigations for the State Department and Treasury under both Democratic and Republican administrations. He led the team that uncovered the international nuclear procurement network run by the father of Pakistan’s nuclear program, AQ Khan, and uncovered key parts of North Korea’s secret uranium enrichment. He believes the Chinese Communist Party has been involved in a massive cover-up during the past 14 months.

“And if you believe, as I do, that this might have been a weapons vector gone awry, not deliberately released, but in development and then somehow leaked, this has turned out to be the greatest weapon in history,” Asher said during a panel discussion at the Hudson Institute: The Origins of the COVID-10: Policy Implications and Lessons for the Future. “You’ve taken out 15 to 20 percent of global GDP. You’ve killed millions of people. The Chinese population has been barely affected. Video Shows Quick-Thinking Chick-Fil-A Customer Help Cops Apprehend an Escaping Suspect

A customer waiting at a Chick-fil-a drive-thru is being praised for his quick thinking after he helped a police officer apprehend a suspect that he was chasing.

The incident unfolded in Jacksonville, Texas, on Wednesday as the man was waiting in line for his chicken sandwich, according to KLTV.

Jacksonville police say that officers were in pursuit of a suspect they say was driving a stolen vehicle and had jumped from the car to escape from police.

When the suspect tried to run between the line of cars through the restaurant’s parking lot, the customer waited until just the right moment to open his truck door into the suspect.

An officer pounced on the man after he fell to the ground, and the customer can be seen further assisting the officer as he makes the arrest.
