The Countries That Locked Down the Hardest Are Now Being Decimated by COVID-19

Several of the countries that pursued a “zero-COVID” strategy or otherwise implemented harsh lockdown restrictions are now facing their most devastating waves of the pandemic. . .

China implemented perhaps the most draconian measures in the world to fight COVID-19, deploying advanced tech to track each citizen’s every movement, lock people in their homes if exposed to the virus and shutting down entire cities at the first sign of a small outbreak. Numbers reported by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which are disputed by many experts, painted a picture of a massive country keeping spread of the virus to an impressively limited level. According to CCP data, the country averaged less than 200 cases per day from March 2020 all the way until February 2022.

Now, the country is being overwhelmed with outbreaks. Nearly one-third of the total cases in the country for the entirety of the pandemic occurred in March. March 19, CCP authorities reported the country’s first COVID-19 deaths since January 2021. Military reserves have been activated to prevent people from leaving cities or even buildings where outbreaks have been detected. Parts of Shanghai, China’s financial center, and its 26 million residents have been locked down. . .

Some experts have said South Korea had the best pandemic response in the world. Through strict surveillance and tracing tools, the country was able to pursue a zero-COVID strategy without resorting to the draconian lockdowns seen in many other places around the world. South Korea’s policies were highly invasive, with infected residents having their phone and credit card data tracked to retrace their movements, close contacts of the infected were required to isolate for two weeks with twice-a-day check-ins from government COVID-19 monitors, and individuals who got the virus were sent to government isolation facilities.

All of it appeared to be for naught in March 2022, with daily cases peaking at more than 621,000. The country’s death count more than doubled in March alone. (Read more from “The Countries That Locked Down the Hardest Are Now Being Decimated by COVID-19” HERE)

Russia Blames Ukraine After Belgorod Fuel Depot Explodes

An oil depot in the Russian city of Belgorod, located about 22 miles from Ukraine’s border, erupted Friday morning after a pair of Ukrainian helicopters hit it with missiles, Russian officials claimed.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said Friday that two Ukrainian Mi-24 helicopters entered Russian airspace early Friday morning, slipped past Russia’s defenses, and attacked the civilian fuel depot. Konashenkov said that the fuel storage facility held only fuel for civilian use, not the military, according to the Associated Press.

“The helicopters struck a civilian oil storage facility on the outskirts of Belgorod,” Russia’s Ministry of Defense said, according to The Wall Street Journal. “As a result of the missile strike, some of the tanks were damaged and caught fire. Only civilian vehicles were supplied with fuel from this facility.”

A top Ukrainian national security official denied Russia’s claims about Ukraine’s involvement, according to the AP. Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of Ukraine’s national security council, said during a television appearance: “For some reason, they say that we did it, but in fact this does not correspond with reality.” (Read more from “Russia Blames Ukraine After Belgorod Fuel Depot Explodes” HERE)

Biden’s Lack Of Any Strategy For Ukraine Shows He’s Got None For U.S. National Security Either

The White House said this week it plans to release up to 180 million barrels of oil from strategic reserves, a million barrels a day for 180 days, to help bring down near-record gas prices that were climbing before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine but have since spiked. It will be the largest release of oil from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve since it was established in the early 1970s, and it probably won’t work.

The specific reasons it probably won’t work — congestion on the Gulf Coast, a possible reduction in supply from Saudi Arabia and other oil producers, the fact that 180 million barrels over the next six months isn’t enough to offset the loss of Russian oil exports — are not as important as what the announcement tells us about the Biden administration’s plan for Ukraine and how it fits into an overarching national security strategy for the United States.

What it tells us is this: Biden has no plan for Ukraine, and no overarching national security strategy for the United States.

The forthcoming release of oil is not unique in this respect. It’s just the latest in a string of seemingly haphazard, impromptu policies and pronouncements from the Biden administration that have sown confusion among our allies and projected weakness and indecision to the wider world. Survey: 1/3 of Americans Have to Cut Groceries to Buy Gas

Over one-third of Americans say they have had to cut groceries in order to afford gas as prices skyrocket in the second year of Biden’s presidency, a Quinnipiac University survey released this week found.

Gas prices have skyrocketed throughout President Biden’s time in office. As of Thursday, the national gas price average stood at $4.225 per gallon, although some parts of the country are seeing prices well over $6.00 per gallon.

While Biden has deflected, continuing to blame Russia for rising prices and inflation rather than his own bad economic policies and determination to quash American energy independence, not all Americans are buying it. A plurality, 41 percent, directly blame high gas prices on Biden’s economic policies, per the survey.

It also asked respondents, “As a result of the rise in gas prices, have you cut back your spending on groceries so that you can pay for gas, or not?”

Over one-third of Americans, 35 percent, said “yes,” they have had to cut back on groceries. Party by party, 46 percent of Republicans said they have had to cut back on groceries, and 22 percent of Democrats and 36 percent of independent voters say the same. Joe Biden to Open the Border on May 23

President Joe Biden’s deputies have announced they will lift the Title 42 barrier at the southern border on May 23, allowing a vast wave of wage-cutting, rent-spiking migrants into America’s job and housing markets.

“We are increasing our capacity to process new arrivals, evaluate asylum requests,” said a statement from Alejandro Mayorkas, who heads Biden’s Department of Homeland Security and is trying to build an extra immigration system that operates alongside annual limits set by Congress.

The formal announcement implies that the president will not block the border-opening plan by his deputies.

Without the Title 42 rules, Mayorkas and his allies insist they are required to let anyone at the border appeal for asylum. The process has been overloaded, ensuring that all people who apply for asylum can legally work and live in the United States for several years.

“Their plan is to move people into the country faster,” Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) said on March 30. “That’s their whole plan.” (Read more from “Joe Biden to Open the Border on May 23” HERE)

Intel Official Who Signed Hunter Biden Letter Picked for Afghanistan Commission

The newest Democratic selection for the Afghanistan War Commission is an MSNBC pundit who was among dozens of former intelligence officials who signed a letter in October 2020 claiming without evidence that the Hunter Biden laptop story was part of a Russian operation.

The Democratic chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Washington Rep. Adam Smith, announced he had picked Jeremy Bash for the Afghanistan investigation Friday, with the biography for Bash noting he served as chief of staff at the Pentagon and chief of staff at the CIA during the Obama administration. Former CIA Director Leon Panetta, for whom Bash worked, also signed the letter.

Bash’s LinkedIn lists himself as the founder of Beacon Global Strategies and as a national security analyst at NBC News and MSNBC.

Despite offering no proof, Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign, along with many in the media, dismissed the laptop story as being a Russian disinformation operation. After the New York Post published emails belonging to his son, Joe Biden called the story “garbage” and part of a “Russian plan” during an October 2020 debate with then-President Donald Trump. Does CNN’s Incoming Boss Condone Assaulting Fox News’ Journalists?

CNN’s incoming president Chris Licht appears to be okay with the suggestion of slapping a Fox News journalist over questions posed to President Joe Biden about Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Licht, the current producer of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” is set to take over at CNN next month but has failed to nix a portion of Colbert’s scripts that include attacks on Fox News reporters and conservative media figures.

On Tuesday, Colbert called Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy a “ridiculous man” and suggested the reporter be slapped for questions he asked Biden.

“Remember how on last night’s show I said that slapping is never, ever the answer? I’d like to file a one-time exception on behalf of the president of the United States,” Colbert said, referring to his comments the night before about actor Will Smith slapping comedian Chris Rock at Sunday’s Academy Awards.

Colbert’s remark about slapping Doocy came after a video clip was played of the Fox News reporter asking Biden to elaborate on what he meant when he previously said that chemical weapons used by Russia would prompt a U.S. response “in kind.” (Read more from “Does CNN’s Incoming Boss Condone Assaulting Fox News’ Journalists?” HERE)

NYT to Remove ‘Potentially Insensitive’ Words From Wordle

The New York Times said it is editing Wordle’s puzzles with the intent of removing offensive words.

The news comes after a user noticed on Wednesday the solution for Wordle puzzle #284 appeared to offer two different options. While one person first solved the puzzle with the word “harry,” the other solved it with the word “stove.” When asked why there were two words, a representative from the newspaper affirmed that the answer had been changed that day.

While most people in the United States may use Harry as a name, the word harry means “to harass, agitate, or trouble by or as if by repeated attacks; beleaguer,” according to Dictionary.com. (Read more from “NYT to Remove ‘Potentially Insensitive’ Words From Wordle” HERE)

April Fools! Gap in Trump’s Jan. 6 Phone Records Was a Big Media-Fabricated Nothingburger

It seems the mysterious gap in White House phone records on Jan. 6, 2021, which legacy media insisted was indicative of suspicious conduct within the Trump administration amid the riot at the capitol and which led the news cycle this week, was nothing but an April Fools joke.

“Fifty years ago, the scandalous actions of an American president were shielded from public view, thanks to a suspiciously convenient 18½-minute gap in the Nixon White House’s call recordings,” The Washington Post reported Tuesday. “Today, the actions of another American president remain shielded thanks to another convenient — and inexplicable — gap in White House records.”

If there is anything to be compared with former President Richard Nixon’s scandals in the one manufactured by the Democrats and the corporate press surrounding former President Donald Trump, however, it’s the House Jan. 6 Committee’s open execution of a modern-day “digital Watergate” complete with state-sponsored persecution of political dissidents.

Other outlets were quick to jump on the gap in White House records to frame a former president in the shadow of the only commander in chief to resign from office 50 years ago.

“Call Logs Underscore Trump’s Efforts to Sway Lawmakers on Jan. 6,” headlined The New York Times moments after publication of the story from The Washington Post. (Read more from “April Fools! Gap in Trump’s Jan. 6 Phone Records Was a Big Media-Fabricated Nothingburger” HERE)

Not So Lucky: Eating This Beloved Cereal Could Make You Physically Ill

Lucky Charms — the sugary breakfast cereal made by General Mills that has long used a leprechaun mascot — is believed to be making people sick nationwide, The Post has learned from reports on a consumer complaint website.

At least 139 consumers across the country reported they vomited and had diarrhea after eating a bowl of the cereal that’s marketed to kids, according to iwaspoisoned.com, a platform that tracks food-borne illnesses.

In March, Jan Judd of Heber City, Utah, said she ate a bowl as a snack one evening and a few hours later she was cramping up, nauseous and up much of the night with diarrhea.

“I felt lousy for 24 hours, even worse than I felt when I had COVID-19,” Judd told The Post.

Lacey Pack of Friona, Texas, gave her 3-year-old son Jackson a mid-afternoon snack of the cereal without milk on March 6. Several hours later, he began “projectile vomiting” and didn’t stop until the following day, she told The Post.
