Miracle: Street Preacher Returns to Church After Surviving Headshot
In a remarkable turn of events, a young Arizona street preacher, Hans Schmidt, who was shot in the head while spreading the gospel, has defied the odds and made a triumphant return to church. The 26-year-old military veteran, serving as the outreach director of Victory Chapel First Phoenix, was not expected to survive the traumatic incident.
The news of Schmidt’s return to church was shared by his wife, Zulya Schmidt, on Sunday, accompanied by a heartwarming Instagram post. The post highlighted the miraculous progress in Hans’ recovery, describing him as walking, talking, and even playing the drums. Zulya expressed gratitude for the support and urged continued prayers for Hans’ full restoration.
The Schmidt family, including their two young children, has been documenting Hans’ recovery journey over the past few months. The uplifting update comes just over a month after Zulya reported that her husband was making stunning progress, although he was unable to speak at the time.
Victory Chapel First Phoenix celebrated the news with a statement on their website, expressing joy and thanking God for the seen miracle. The church announced that Hans had been released from the hospital and was now at home with his family. The statement requested ongoing prayers for the family as they navigate the road to recovery.
Pastor Franklin Graham also joined in the celebration, describing the news as “great” and acknowledging the power of prayer.
The incident occurred on November 15, 2023, when Hans Schmidt was shot while conducting church outreach at an intersection in Glendale. The single-entry point gunshot to the left temple resulted in the bullet passing through his brain. Despite the severity of the injury, Schmidt initially fell, then remarkably got back up, walked, and talked. Unaware of the shooting, those around him eventually noticed the symptoms of seizures and vomiting, prompting a hospital trip.
Schmidt had been actively involved in street preaching for over a year, dedicating 30 minutes before each evening service for the church to this outreach. The unprovoked attack shocked the community, and a GoFundMe campaign raised nearly $80,000 for Schmidt’s medical expenses.
The Schmidt family has received an outpouring of prayers and support from the global Christian community, and they continue to hold onto hope.
