Melania Trump Halts Use of Photo as College Replies With ‘I’m Sorry’

If there is nothing more American than a crafty advertising gimmick, then a school in Croatia might be becoming more American by the minute.

Last week, Americki Institut, an English-language school in Croatia, took out a billboard bearing the face of first lady Melania Trump with the caption, “Just imagine how far you can go with a little bit of English.”

The school did not bother with the nicety of asking the first lady.

Twitter ensured the advertisement was viewed around the world, giving the school more publicity than it might have expected.

Then Melania Trump saw it and took legal action.

The first lady decided that the school’s scheme to boost enrollment in English classes reeked more of illegality than creativity, and — as a former model who knows the value of her image — sued to have the offending advertisement removed within 24 hours.

The school got the message. The billboard in the Croatian capital of Zagreb is down.

“I’m satisfied with the fact that the school admitted that they violated the law and that they are ready to remove the billboards and ads,” said Nataša Pirc-Musar, who represents Trump as various businesses in Europe try to capitalize on her fame. “We are still analyzing possible further legal steps.”

Pirc-Musar said the school has apologized, but that the statement also needed to be published by the Croatian and Slovenian state news agencies.

“We are very sorry that the billboards were misunderstood as something intended to mock the U.S. first lady,” said Ivis Buric, a spokeswoman for the school. “It was meant to be something positive, to show her as a role model.”

Despite those words, a visitor to the school’s Facebook page might call its response more cheeky than chastened.

Puerto Rico Braces for Devastating Impact of Hurricane Maria

Hurricane Maria pounded the Caribbean island of Dominica with 160 mph winds Monday and took dead aim at Puerto Rico, where officials urged anyone who could get away do so before it’s too late.

“You have to evacuate. Otherwise, you’re going to die,” said Hector Pesquera, Puerto Rico’s public safety commissioner. “I don’t know how to make this any clearer.”

In a summer of violent hurricanes, Maria was a raging Category 5 storm that officials feared could grow even stronger before clobbering Puerto Rico early Wednesday.

“I am at the complete mercy of the hurricane. House is flooding.” Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit wrote on his Facebook page before his rescue.

“The winds are merciless! We shall survive by the grace of God,” Skerrit also posted.

The National Hurricane Center warned that Maria would be even more destructive than Hurricane Irma, which crashed through Florida after ripping through the Caribbean.

The storm could dump 18 inches of rain on Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands and, in conjunction with storm surges as high as 9 feet, could leave parts of the U.S. territories “uninhabitable for weeks or months,” the hurricane center said.

“Some fluctuations in intensity are likely during the next day or two, but Maria is forecast to remain an extremely dangerous Category 4 or 5 hurricane while it approaches the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico,” it said.

Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló warned that rescuers will not risk their lives once Maria approaches.

“Seek refuge with a family member, friend or move to a state shelter, because rescuers will not go out and risk their lives once winds reach 50 miles per hour,” Rosselló said Monday.

He said the storm could cause historic damage, striking “with a force and violence that we haven’t seen for several generations.”

Meanwhile, experts warned Maria will only make things worse in Puerto Rico.

“The storm compounds already existing problems on the island,” said Deepak Lamba-Nieves, research director at the Center for a New Economy in San Juan. “From that perspective, it’s a really tense moment and one that places Puerto Rico in a more precarious situation than before.” (For more from the author of “Puerto Rico Braces for Devastating Impact of Hurricane Maria” please click HERE)

High School Bans American Flags – the Reason Why Will Surprise You

Administrators at a public high school in New Hampshire have banned students from using American flags as props or clothing at a forthcoming pep rally because the administrators are concerned that students will treat the flag disrespectfully.

The site of the flag fracas is Londonderry High School, reports local ABC affiliate WMUR-TV.

A couple dozen Londonderry High student athletes who will organize the pep rally received letters describing the event’s rules last week. Most of the rules were standard fare: no insults about opposing teams, not getting naked — that kind of thing.

The students who received the letter did notice the added rule about the U.S. flag. The rule read: “No use of the American flag. Do not wear, carry, present the American flag on the floor.” (Read more from “High School Bans American Flags – the Reason Why Will Surprise You” HERE)

Roger Stone Says Russia Related Legal Fees Will Cost at Least $500K

Trump confidant Roger Stone told The Daily Caller Tuesday that a lawsuit and congressional inquires will likely cost him at least $500,000 in legal fees.

Stone has set up a legal defense fund at WhoframedRogerStone.com to help offset the costs.

Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn has also set up a website to help pay off his legal fees as the financial burden of Russia election interference probes grows for Trump associates.

“They couldn’t beat us in an election so now they try to beat us financially,” Stone told TheDC. Stone is being sued by Project Democracy, which is ran by former Obama administration lawyers, for allegedly being involved in the release of emails from Democratic Party officials. Parents Get Angry After Actress Teaches Students About Constitution

Angry parents expressed outrage after actress Janine Turner’s “conservative” presentation on the Constitution to fifth and sixth graders at Eubanks Middle School in Southlake, Texas.

Turner, the founder of “Constituting America,” spoke to the middle schoolers on Sept. 12 about patriotism and the meaning of America’s founding document. She gave a lecture to promote “civic engagement and understanding of constitutional rights,” the mission of her nonpartisan organization.

“‘Constituting America’ seeks to promote the Constitution for students of all ages,” according to its website.

“The program itself was great as she talked about love for country and being a good citizen,” said school district spokeswoman Julie Thannum, according to The Dallas Morning News Monday. “It wasn’t until later that we started getting calls and seeing social media postings upset about materials the speaker passed out to the children.” (Read more from “Parents Get Angry After Actress Teaches Students About Constitution” HERE)

Team of 8-Year-Olds Kneels for National Anthem

Every player on the Cahokia Quarterback Club football team (8 and under) took a knee during the national anthem ahead of Sunday’s game at Little Devil’s Field in Belleville.

“One of the kids asked me if I saw (people) protesting and rioting in St. Louis. I said yes; I said, ‘Do you know why they are doing it?’” said Coach Orlando Gooden.

Coach Gooden said his player responded, “Because black people are getting killed and nobody’s going to jail.”

Gooden, who played football at Mizzou, said the kids knew about the Jason Stockley decision.

McCarthy: Something Fishy About Obama Officials’ Manafort Wiretapping Denials

After months of current and former federal officials insisting there was no merit to allegations the government conducted surveillance on Donald Trump or his campaign during the 2016 cycle, there are now reports that former campaign manager Paul Manafort was being wiretapped.

After Trump tweeted his frustration at the Obama administration for green-lighting the alleged wiretapping, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper rejected the assertion.

“For the part of the national security apparatus that I oversaw as DNI, there was no such wiretap activity mounted against the president-elect as a candidate or against his campaign,” said Clapper on NBC’s “Meet the Press” back in March.

But CNN’s revelation that the government did procure a FISA warrant against Manafort and conduct surveillance on him in 2016 and 2017 brings such denials under the spotlight once again. Most importantly, did they lie?

Convicted Rapist Pitches Fit While Being Deported

A convicted rapist from Africa threw a fit as he was being deported from the US — telling federal agents that he “would rather die than go back to Togo” — during a violent confrontation at Dulles International Airport, a report says . . .

“You will be shipping a dead body back to Togo,” he told the agents, according to court filings obtained by NBC Washington on Monday.

“I am going to make a commotion at the terminal, so the marshals can shoot me because I would rather die than go back to Togo.”

Ameyapoh, who was convicted in 2006 of rape and sexually abusing a child, had been scheduled to take a flight to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — en route to the African nation of Togo — as part of his removal from the country, NBC reports. Two Dem Congressman Arrested Outside Trump Tower

Two Democrats in Congress were arrested Tuesday while sitting on the street outside of Trump Tower in Manhattan.

Reps. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., and Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., were on the scene as part of yet another protest against President Trump.

The issue for this event apparently was the president’s plan to discontinue the special protections for illegal aliens provided under Barack Obama’s amnesty program Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.

According to the Washington Examiner, the two were among a number of members of Congress there and were arrested outside Trump Tower.

Friend of Eric Bolling Jr. Claims Death Was Not Suicide

Initial reports regarding the death of former Fox News host Eric Bolling’s son, Eric Bolling Jr., claimed that Bolling Jr. committed suicide. A week later, a close friend of the 19-year-old economics student contends that Bolling Jr. did not intentionally kill himself.

According to the U.K. Daily Mail, Bolling Jr. had been seen partying the night before, reportedly using drugs including cocaine, marijuana and Xanax. Bolling Jr.’s friend, Wayne Carter, 21, admitted that Bolling Jr. had been “doing things” that night, as evidenced by videos he sent to friends via Snapchat.

Carter said that Bolling Jr. had always been quite social, but he had began partying more intensely over the summer.

Although Carter claimed to have been told that Bolling Jr. had once used harder drugs such as heroin, he insisted that Bolling Jr. was using “college drugs — cocaine, weed, alcohol, Xanax sometimes” prior to his death.

Overtly proud of his father’s television career, Bolling Jr. was reportedly deeply bothered by the sexual harassment allegations against him that led to his dismissal from Fox News on Sept. 8.

“He was very into his dad and looked up to his dad a lot,” Carter said of Bolling Jr. “I’m not saying his life choices revolved around his dad but his dad was a huge role model in his life.”

Following the news of his father’s termination from Fox News, Carter said that Bolling Jr. kept most of his feelings to himself.

“He wouldn’t tell me (directly) because he was so proud of his dad,” Carter said. “But clearly inside, it was eating him up.”

Even so, Carter insisted that Bolling Jr. would never have committed suicide and that his partying and use of drugs is what “did it for him.”

“I’ll put it like this — he was a partier. I don’t think he would have intentionally done it,” Carter explained. “But I definitely think he upped (his drug use) once when he heard that news and that’s what caused his demise.”

The two friends had spent Wednesday and Thursday morning together prior to Bolling Jr.’s death.

“He was fine,” Carter said. “Seemed like everything was normal, just like how we always hung out. Good mood, super energetic. Looked like he had no worries.”

Carter recalled that the two talked about “girls, sports, working out, our friends. He was talking about his trip because he just got back from New York.”
