White House Announces Diplomatic Boycott of Beijing Olympics

The White House has announced a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Beijing Olympics, saying the U.S. will not send any government officials to the Chinese capital for the Winter Games.

“The Biden administration will not send any diplomatic or official representation to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic games given [China’s] ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang and other human rights abuses,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters on Monday.

“The athletes on team USA have our full support, we will be behind them 100 percent as we cheer them on from home. We will not be contributing to the fan fare of the games. U.S. diplomatic or official representation would treat these games as business as usual in the face of the PRC’s egregious human rights abuses and atrocities in Xinjiang and we simply can’t do that.”

Biden Talks About ‘Third Temple’ in Jerusalem

During the fourth night of Hanukkah and the annual menorah-lighting ceremony, Joe Biden talked about the destruction of the Second Temple, which he compared it to the “temple of our democracy.” . . .

But later in the talk, he expressed optimism the Third Temple would be rebuilt.

“Whether it’s in the Temple of Jerusalem or a temple of our democracy, nothing broken or profaned is beyond repair … nothing,” he said. “We can always build back better. Or, perhaps, build back brighter.”

It was odd. Was he comparing the torching of the Temple and the massacring of the Jews to the Jan. 6 “insurrection” against the Capitol Building? . . .

YouTube Caught Meddling in French Election

YouTube slapped an age restriction notice on French presidential candidate Éric Zemmour’s campaign announcement video.

“You must now present your identity papers to have the right to watch the video of my declaration of candidacy. The thought police are no longer even hiding: they are showing off their tyrannical nature. The real fight begins,” a Google translation of Zemmour’s tweet in reaction to the censorship reads.

The video, which was posted on Tuesday and has accumulated more than 2.5 million views, features the French journalist explaining why he chose to run for president overlayed with clips from the news and clips showing the European country.

“For decades, the left and the right have led us to this deadly path of decline and decadence,” a translation of Zemmour’s speech in French reads. “Left and right, they have lied to you. They have hidden the gravity of our decline. They have hidden the reality of our replacement. You have known me for years. You know my opinions, my analyses, my predictions.” . . .

This European Country Is Medically Segregating the Unvaccinated From Public Life

Germany enacted restrictions on Thursday prohibiting citizens who haven’t received a COVID-19 vaccine from entering most public venues and businesses.

According to Reuters, the decision to implement medical segregation came after “[O]utgoing Chancellor Angela Merkel and her successor Olaf Scholz agreed with leaders of Germany’s 16 states to bar the unvaccinated from access to all but the most essential businesses such as grocery stores, pharmacies and bakeries.” Only individuals who are vaccinated or have recovered from the virus will be allowed access to restaurants, theaters, and other so-called nonessential stores.

Additional restrictions set to take effect include “shutting nightclubs in places with high infection rates,” “strict limits on the number of spectators at large public events such as soccer games,” and “a nationwide ban on gatherings and fireworks at New Year.”

Iran Declares: ‘We Will Not Back Off From the Annihilation of Israel’

With the Biden administration set to restart a new round of nuclear talks with the Islamic Republic of Iran, the spokesperson for Iran’s military stated over the weekend that they will not give up their pursuit of wiping Israel off the face of the earth.

“We will not back off from the annihilation of Israel, even one millimeter,” Brig.-Gen. Abolfazl Shekarchi, spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran’s armed forces, told the Iranian Students News Agency. “We want to destroy Zionism in the world.”

The Jerusalem Post added:

The Iranian general also blasted Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates for normalizing diplomatic relations with Israel, terming the diplomacy “intolerable” for Iran’s clerical regime. “Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE and other countries considered as Muslims, for us they part of the Zionist regime and this is very important,” said Shekarchi.

Russia War Fears Erupt as Putin Brutally Rejects Final Meeting With Outgoing Merkel

The Russian President rejected a meeting with Mrs Merkel after she requested an audience with him to discuss the escalating Russian military presence on the border with Ukraine. She called for a strong EU response in the wake of the rejection, saying that she “very much regretted” Putin’s decision to snub the talks.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Poland in Berlin, she said: “I very much regretted that the Russian president is not prepared — nor is the Russian foreign minister — to hold another high-level political meeting in the Normandy format at the end of my term.”

She also floated new sanctions against Russia “if we see no progress at all”, as she warned that Moscow was not signalling interest in resolving the conflict.

At the same press conference, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki claimed that Putin’s ultimate goal was to divide the EU and NATO, referring to Russia’s alleged role in the migrant crisis at the Poland/Belarus border.

New Variant ‘Could Already be in the UK’ Amid Fears Vaccines Are 40% Less Effective

The new COVID variant, that could weaken vaccine protection by 40 per cent, could potentially already be in the UK.

UK health chiefs say the new strain, centered in south African countries, is the “most worrying and complex” seen yet.

It is the most evolved so far with 50 mutations, 32 of which are of particular concern, and could be worse than Delta, experts have warned.

The variant has only been found in four countries so far – but its power has sparked a sudden ban on flights from six nations to the UK.

In Case With Global Implications, Finland Puts Christians on Trial for Their Faith

Juhana Pohjola wouldn’t be cast to play his own part if Hollywood made a movie about a bishop put on trial for his faith. The Finnish pastor has inherited a place in the church of Martin Luther, but it appears none of Luther’s pugnacity or vitriol.

In person, Pohjola, 49, is forthright but unassuming, and gentle. Stereotypically, the Finn is thin and tall. He often pauses while speaking to carefully consider his next words. He listens attentively to others with far less impressive resumes.

n more than two decades as a pastor, Pohjola has ministered to congregations as small as 30. He has spent his life building a network of faithful churches across Finland, many of which started with a few people gathered for prayer, Bible study, hymn-singing—and communion, if they can get a pastor. In an in-person interview with The Federalist, Pohjola urged fellow Christian leaders to be willing to seek out “one lost sheep” instead of crowds and acclaim.

This is the man who appears to be the first in the post-Soviet Union West to be brought up on criminal charges for preaching the Christian message as it has been established for thousands of years. Also charged in the case that goes to trial on January 24 is Pohjola’s fellow Lutheran and a Finnish member of Parliament, Paivi Rasanen.

Rasanen’s alleged crimes in a country that claims to guarantee freedom of speech and religion include tweeting a picture of a Bible verse. Journalist Arrested After Reporting on Attacks Against Christians

A Nigerian Christian journalist has been imprisoned following his reporting of attacks on Christians in Nigeria’s Middle Belt and his criticism of the government’s response, the Barnabas Fund reported Monday.

Officials of Kaduna State arrested Epoch Times journalist Luka Binniyat November 4 and charged him with transmitting electronic information known “to be false” under the nation’s Cybercrimes Act.

The charge is a federal offence carrying a penalty of three years in prison and Binniyat has not been offered bail and must be tried in a higher court.

A local source told the Barnabas Fund that Binniyat’s arrest “is aimed at silencing any dissenting voice and intimidating both Luka and the southern Kaduna communities.”

Violence Erupts as COVID Protests Expand Across Europe

Violence erupted at demonstrations in Belgium and the Netherlands over the weekend as tougher Covid-19 restrictions to curb the resurgent pandemic led to angry protests in several European countries.

Ten of thousands of people marched through central Brussels on Sunday to protest against reinforced restrictions imposed by the Belgian government to counter the latest rise in coronavirus cases. The march, which police estimated involved 35,000 people, began peacefully but descended into violence as several hundred people started pelting officers, smashing cars and setting rubbish bins on fire. Police responded with teargas and water cannon.

“We have injuries but we cannot yet say how many,” said Ilse Vande Keere, a police spokesperson. It was also unclear how many people had been detained.

Demonstrators had earlier gathered to protest against the government’s advice to get vaccinated and any possible moves to impose mandatory shots. Shouting “freedom, freedom, freedom!” and singing the anti-fascist song Bella Ciao, protesters lined up behind a huge banner saying “together for freedom” and marched to the EU headquarters. Signs among the crowd varied from far-right insignia to the rainbow flags of the LGBT community.

It followed a second night of violence in the Netherlands on Saturday, when five police officers were injured and at least 40 people arrested. Dutch authorities deployed water cannon, dogs and mounted police to dispel crowds of rioting youths who lit fires and lobbed fireworks in The Hague and elsewhere, after more than 50 people were arrested in Rotterdam on Friday.
