By CNN. Republican Sen. John McCain said Sunday that President Donald Trump’s comments that the US military would leave Syria “very soon” had emboldened Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, resulting in the reported chemical weapons attack Saturday that killed dozens of the country’s civilians.

“President Trump last week signaled to the world that the United States would prematurely withdraw from Syria,” the Arizona senator said in a statement. “Bashar Assad and his Russian and Iranian backers have heard him, and emboldened by American inaction, Assad has reportedly launched another chemical attack against innocent men, women and children, this time in Douma.”

The statement from the hawkish chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee came hours after Trump tweeted that there would be a “big price to pay” for an alleged chemical weapons attack in Syria. Trump’s tweets pinned blame for the situation there on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s support for Assad and former US President Barack Obama’s past policy in the war-torn nation. Dozens Suffocate in Syria as Government Is Accused of Chemical Attack

By The New York Times. The British Foreign Office called for an urgent investigation and said that if the use of chemical weapons proved to be true, “it is further proof of Assad’s brutality.”

The United States government said it was working to verify whether chemical weapons had been used. A new, confirmed chemical attack in Syria would pose a dilemma for President Trump, who ordered military strikes on a Syrian air base after a chemical attack last year to punish Mr. Assad but has more recently said he wanted to get the United States out of Syria.

In posts on Twitter on Sunday, Mr. Trump condemned the attack, blaming Iran and President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia for supporting the Syrian government and warning of consequences. Woman Embalmed Alive During Routine Surgery

By Daily Mail. A 27 year old woman has died in excruciating agony after she was embalmed alive due to a horrific medical blunder.

Ekaterina Fedyaeva’s mother has accused medics of ‘murder’ after they put her daughter on a formalin drip – a solution contain formaldehyde – instead of saline.

The woman had been in hospital in her home city of Ulyanovsk in Russia for routine surgery.

She was given a drip normally infused into the veins of the dead to prevent decomposition.

Russian Woman Embalmed Alive in Deadly Hospital Mistake

By The New York Post. A Russian woman was embalmed alive when doctors unwittingly put her on a formaldehyde-based drip instead of a saline during a surgery, according to a report Sunday.

Ekaterina Fedyaeva, 27, died from the gruesome medical blunder in which her veins were pumped full of the chemical, which is generally used to prevent the decomposition of corpses, according to the UK Sun.

“This is pure murder,” her mother, Galina Baryshnikova, said, according to the paper. “[It] was simply eroding her body from inside.”

Kim Jong Un Willing to Discuss Denuclearization With Trump

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un said he’s willing to talk with President Trump about getting rid of North Korea’s nuclear weapons as part of a denuclearization across the Korean Peninsula, a Trump administration official confirmed to Fox News on Sunday . . .

And while Trump tweeted on March 28 that he was looking forward to the meeting, saying, “There is a good chance that Kim Jong Un will do what is right for his people and for humanity,” many analysts have expressed skepticism about the secretive regime’s intentions.

“It’s possible that Kim Jong Un has a different meaning in mind,” Abraham Denmark, a former senior U.S. defense official said, noting that a possible denuclearization offer appears to be contingent on the U.S. creating the right conditions. “So far it sounds like the same old tune.”

South Korea, which has shuttled between Pyongyang and Washington to set up the talks, said Kim had expressed willingness to discuss giving up nuclear weapons during his upcoming meetings with South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Trump, but North Korea hadn’t confirmed such discussions until Sunday.

The rogue nation’s abrupt diplomatic outreach in recent months has brought a temporary lull to tensions sparked by its nuclear weapons and missile tests last year that resulted in Kim and Trump exchanging crude insults and threats of war. London’s Mayor Declares Intense New ‘Knife Control’ Policies to Stop Epidemic of Stabbings

By The Daily Wire. An epidemic of stabbings and acid attacks in London has gotten so bad that London mayor Sadiq Khan is announcing broad new “knife control” policies designed to keep these weapons of war out of the hands of Londoners looking to cause others harm.

The “tough, immediate” measures involve an incredible police crackdown, a ban on home deliveries of knives and acid, and expanding law enforcement stop-and-search powers so that police may stop anyone they believe to be a threat, or planning a knife or acid attack.

Khan announced Friday that the city has created a “violent crime taskforce of 120 officers” tasked with rooting out knife-wielding individuals in public spaces, and is pumping nearly $50 million dollars into the Metropolitan Police department, so that they can better arm themselves against knife attacks. He’s also empowering the Met Police to introduce “targeted patrols with extra stop and search powers for areas worst-affected,” according to a statement . . .

London Mayor Sadiq Khan Targets Knives as Murder Rate Spikes: ‘There Is Never a Reason to Carry a Knife’

By Fox News. London Mayor Sadiq Khan announced a tough crackdown on knives Sunday as the city reels from a spike in stabbings that have led its number of homicides to top New York City’s for two straight months . . .

London has seen more than 50 homicides already in 2018.

Most of the city’s murder victims have been stabbed to death, as guns are tightly restricted in Britain and shootings are relatively rare.

If the bloody trend continues, London will far surpass the 130 murders in 2017 and reach a number not seen since the early 2000s.

Syria Turns Kurds Over to Turkish Forces for Slaughter

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse in Syria, the government in Damascus appears to be turning over the Kurdish city of Afrin to the Turkish military and pro-Turkish militias.

Turkey has a long-standing grudge against the Kurds who have long fought for an independent state of their own, including for a large population of Kurds in and around Turkey.

The Turks took control of the city following an air and ground campaign last month, displacing some 137,000 people. The remainder of the population, somewhere between 50,000 and 70,000 people, according to United Nations estimates, now find themselves trapped in the devastated city, with little food and clean water, no power and sealed off by Syrian military forces as well as Turkish . . .

In addition to the humanitarian crisis in Afrin, the U.S. military says the Turkish offensive is disrupting the ability to defeat ISIS forces in the area, permitting them to regroup and return.

Colonel Ryan Dillon, the U.S. military spokesman on the ground there said military leaders have noticed a fall in the number of airstrikes against ISIS targets – not because the terrorist group has been eliminated, but because a stall in ground operations caused by the Afrin offensive allowed ISIS fighters the time and space to regroup and dig in. Pro-Palestinian Student Group Wants College to Ban Hummus Brand Over Israel Ties. Yes, Hummus.

A pro-Palestinian student group at Swarthmore College wants the president of the elite Pennsylvania school to ban Sabra Hummus from campus — over what the group said is the brand’s ties to Israel.

Students for Justice in Palestine created a petition that says, “Sabra Hummus is owned by the Strauss Group, a multinational corporation that invests in, financially supports, and even sends care packages to the Golani Brigade of the Israeli armed forces.” . . .

It is morally unacceptable that Swarthmore should continue to support the international human rights violations of the Golani Brigade and Israeli Apartheid at large. By selling Sabra, Swarthmore is an accessory to the occupation of Palestine.

We call upon President [Valerie] Smith to affirm the dignity of Palestinian life, recognize the illegal occupation of Palestinian land, and deshelve all current Sabra products and end their future sale at Swarthmore College.

Campus Reform reported that the call for the Sabra Hummus ban is gaining strong support on the suburban Philadelphia campus, with more than 350 Swarthmore community members having signed the petition, according to a Swarthmore SJP tweet. Transgender “Female” Competes in Weightlifting Competition in Spite of 25 Percent Advantage

Four years ago, weightlifter Laurel Hubbard transitioned from being a male to a female. [He] will now compete in the women’s weightlifting competition at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, in spite of protest.

The Commonwealth Games is an athletic competition (similar to the Olympics) between countries that include 53 members comprised of the former British Empire. The competition has carried on since 1930.

Cited as one of New Zealand’s “brightest medal prospects,” the 40-year-old is facing scrutiny over whether or not [his] competition against naturally-born women is fair. Otago University physiology professor Alison Heather said that “in general males outperform females across most sports, in weightlifting and strength sports…(and) that male to female difference can be as high as 25 percent.”

Heather added: “A man transitioning to a female has physiological advantages that they take into their new female life based on their previous male life.” She described those advantages such as having naturally larger hearts and lungs, muscle mass and bone structures.

Hubbard qualified under the parameters set for transgender athletes by the International Olympic Committee, which are also followed by the International Weightlifting Federation. The metrics are based on testosterone levels, and after twelve months of hormone therapy, Hubbard is able to compete in the women’s category. Hillary Clinton Recalls the Time Putin Used a Dog to Big-Boy Merkel and How It Screams Sexism

By The Daily Caller. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called Russian President Vladimir Putin a “misogynist” Tuesday, saying he used his dog to intimidate German Chancellor Angela Merkel at a meeting between the two in 2007.

At a panel hosted by The Wing workspace in New York City, Clinton implied Putin was a sexist because he allowed his black lab Koni into the room during a meeting between the two leaders. Clinton claimed Putin let his dog into the room because he knew that Merkel was scared of dogs.

“Angela Merkel came to visit him and he knew the intelligence and he knew that Angela Merkel was afraid of dogs,” Clinton said, according to People.

Clinton called Merkel one of the “great European leaders post World War II” and said Putin let the dog in to “intimidate and embarrass” Merkel.

“So, you have these one-on-one meetings. All of a sudden, while the press is still there, this very large black dog came into the room. It was meant to intimidate and embarrass Angela Merkel, who is one of the really great European leaders [of] post World War II,” Clinton said. Hillary Clinton Recalls Hairy Story About ‘Misogynist’ Vladimir Putin

By Huffington Post. Hillary Clinton has a pet peeve with Russian President Vladimir Putin: He’s a “world-class misogynist” who had no qualms about using his dog to intimidate a powerful woman . . .

Putin has said he had no intention of frightening Merkel when he brought out his black Labrador Koni at his residence in Sochi. He said he wanted “to do something nice for her,” and apologized when he discovered she didn’t like dogs.

Merkel reportedly was bitten by a dog in 1995. Putin had been briefed by the Kremlin on Merkel’s fear of dogs in 2006, when he presented her with a stuffed toy dog, The New York Times reported.

Is One of the Big Continents Going to Split in Two?

By WND. Alarming reports are coming out of Africa that a 50-foot-deep crack that has developed in the earth across many miles actually could end up – eventually – splitting the continent into two parts.

The crack has appeared along Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, and runs from Somalia, in the northeast part of the continent, hundreds of miles down to South Africa, they say.

CBS explained it opened “suddenly” and “many scientists believe it could end up breaking Africa’s continent apart . . .

CBS quoted Smithsonian geologist Ben Andrews with the comment, “We’re seeing a crack that in all likelihood formed over many thousands of years or hundreds of thousands of years.”

Denying the obvious concern that those in that region have, commenters followed the CBS report with a variety of opinions, including “This is horrible. We should restrict gun sales in the U.S.” and “Well, this is alarming. Winged de

Breaking up Is Hard to Do: Africa Could Eventually Split Into Two Continents

By USA Today. It’ll take tens of millions of years, but Africa may eventually split into two parts.

While geologists have known about this possibility for a while, it became news recently when a large crack, stretching several miles in length, made a sudden appearance in southwestern Kenya following heavy rain.

The tear, which continues to grow, collapsed part of a highway and “was accompanied by seismic activity in the area,” said Lucia Perez Diaz, a postdoctoral researcher on tectonics at Royal Holloway, a university in London.

The crack is located in a region known as the East African Rift Valley. It measures more than 50 feet in depth and 65 feet across, according to National Geographic. A rift valley refers to a lowland region where tectonic plates rift, or move apart.

Gun-Free London’s Murder Rate Surpasses New York’s for the First Time

By CBS News. A surge of stabbings in London was blamed Monday for the city overtaking New York’s monthly murder tally for the first time in modern history. Fifteen people were murdered in London during February, compared to 14 in New York, according to police figures.

The British capital also suffered 22 fatal stabbings and shootings in March, higher than the 21 in New York. There have been 10 fatal stabbings in London in the last 19 days, following on from the 80 fatal stabbings recorded in the city last year.

London’s murder rate has grown by nearly 40 percent in three years, while police figures show that New York’s has fallen by 87 percent since 1990, raising pressure on London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick.

As CBS News partner network BBC News reported, London saw its first homicide of April on Monday night, when a 17-year-old girl was fatally shot near her home in Tottenham, north London, “for no reason at all,” according to a friend who arrived on the seen quickly. The same evening a 15-year-old boy was stabbed in another part of north London, leaving him with life changing injuries, according to the Metropolitan Police.

“There is no single cause, but there has been a big spike in both gun crime and knife crime across London,” Parliamentarian David Lammy, who represents Tottenham, told the BBC. “Certainly my constituency finds itself at the epicenter of that.
