Ukraine Brands China’s Biggest Oil and Gas Companies ‘Sponsors of War’

Ukraine’s National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) announced on Tuesday that it had decided to add China’s three largest oil and gas companies to its list of “international sponsors of war” for their lucrative business interests in Russia, potentially driving a wedge between Kyiv and Beijing.

China is one of Russia’s closest international allies and has dramatically increased its imports of Russian fossil fuels since the government of strongman Vladimir Putin announced a “special operation” to invade Ukraine in February 2022. Russia overtook Saudi Arabia and China’s top source of oil in June 2022 and has rerouted ships into the Arctic to more efficiently meet China’s demand for its products — at a time in which Europe imposed sanctions on Moscow in response to the invasion.

The Chinese Communist Party also enjoys close ties to the government of Ukraine, however. Ukraine is a member of China’s Belt and Road Initative (BRI), a debt-trap scheme in which Beijing offers predatory loans to poor countries that serve to erode their sovereignty and increase Chinese influence. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has encouraged Chinese businesses to help rebuild a post-war Ukraine and invited dictator Xi Jinping to maintain communication lines open. Xi and Zelensky last spoke in April, in a phone call Zelensky described as “long and meaningful.”

The Chinese government has repeatedly described itself as a neutral party in the war despite refusing to support sanctions on Russia. Slovakia’s populist former prime minister, Robert Fico, who campaigned on a pledge to end military aid to Ukraine, has said his position “has not changed” after his party’s clear election win made him favorite to lead the country for a fourth time. . .

The 59-year-old, whose pro-Moscow stance has sparked fears Slovakia will join Hungary and its authoritarian leader Viktor Orbán in challenging the EU’s consensus on support for Kyiv, added: “People in Slovakia have bigger problems than Ukraine.”

Fico has leaned close to Orbán, who congratulated him on his victory on Sunday. “Guess who’s back!” the Hungarian prime minister said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Always good to work together with a patriot. Looking forward to it.”

Fico said his party was “not changing [its view] that we are prepared to help Ukraine in a humanitarian way . . . we are prepared to help with the reconstruction of the state. But you know our opinion on arming Ukraine” . . .

The Missile That Killed 2 Poles Last Year Was Ukrainian, Confirms Polish Investigation

Despite a lack of cooperation from Ukraine, Polish investigators have established beyond a doubt that the missile that fell on Polish territory on Nov. 15, 2022, killing two farm workers, was Ukrainian and not from Russia.

The prosecutors remain tight-lipped, according to daily Rzeczpospolita, saying they cannot reveal the details of the investigation. They only revealed that they have asked Ukraine for assistance with more information and that the investigation in Poland itself was now complete.

The details the newspaper obtained indicate that the missile was a Russian-made, S-300-type object used by Ukrainian air defenses.

On Nov. 15, last year, during a Russian missile assault on western Ukraine, the Ukrainian side used air defense missiles to intercept the attacks. One of these missiles, which are meant to self-destruct if they do not hit their targets, failed to do so and ended up flying into Poland.

Canadian House Speaker Resigns Over Celebrating Nazi Soldier

The Speaker of the House of Commons in the Canadian parliament resigned on Tuesday after taking responsibility for celebrating a 98-year-old Ukrainian who served in a Nazi-controlled unit in World War II during a reception for President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Announcing his resignation as speaker, Liberal MP Anthony Rota said per public broadcaster CBC: “I have acted as your humble servant, carrying out the important responsibilities of this position to the very best of my abilities. The work of this House is above any of us. Therefore, I must step down as your Speaker,” Rota said at 2 p.m. ahead of Tuesday’s question period.

“I reiterate my profound regret for my error in recognizing an individual in the House.”

The resignation came hours after Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government called on him to step down on Tuesday morning. Rota has attempted to take the blame for inviting Waffen SS soldier Yaroslav Hunka to the Parliament, where he was given a resounding round of applause and a standing ovation from the entire house, including from Prime Minister Trudeau and President Zelensky.

However, others, including Conservative opposition party leader Pierre Poilievre said that Trudeau should accept part of the blame for the scandal, arguing that it is his government’s responsibility to vet all guests of the parliament for a state visit such as Zelensky’s last week. Russia Pleads for Biden to Invite Putin to APEC Summit

Biden will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in November, an annual gathering of Indo-Pacific leaders that could include a much-anticipated meeting between the U.S. leader and Chinese General Secretary Xi Jinping. Yet Putin appears to be on the receiving end of a maddening snub, as Biden’s team is poised to exclude foreign officials who have been slapped with sanctions, even a Kremlin chief who styles himself an heir to Czar Peter the Great.

“The U.S. has informed us through bilateral channels that this year they are not going to invite a number of leaders because of the sanctions restrictions that apply to them,” Berdyyev complained.

Putin has been choosy about what international events he attends in recent months. He was forced to make only a virtual appearance at the BRICS summit in South Africa because the host nation is treaty-bound to arrest him on behalf of the International Criminal Court if he enters in the country. Putin skipped the subsequent G20 summit in India, but he is expected to travel to China next month.

Biden’s stiff-arming of Putin coincides with another effort by Russian officials to come in from the diplomatic cold. Russian envoys are launching a campaign to win a seat on the U.N. Human Rights Council, a race decided by a vote of the U.N. General Assembly, even as U.N. officials continue to document allegations of widespread acts of torture and rape perpetrated by invading Russian forces in Ukraine. Shock: Zelensky, Trudeau Give Soldier Who Reportedly Fought for Nazi Germany a Standing Ovation

By Breitbart. The Canadian parliament, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have been reported to have given a standing ovation to a reported former member of a Nazi military division.

Following addresses to the parliament in Ottowa on Friday from both Trudeau and Zelensky, the Speaker of the House of Commons Anthony Rota prompted a standing ovation as he honoured a “veteran from the Second World War who fought for Ukrainian independence against the Russians and continues to support the troops today even at his age of 98.”

“His name is Yaroslav Hunka… he is a Ukrainian hero, a Canadian hero, and we thank him for all his service,” Rota continued before a second round of applause.

In the caption of a picture published by the Associated Press showing Zelensky and Trudeau standing and applauding Hunka, the news wire service identified Hunka as a former member of the “First Ukrainian Division in World War II”. The division is also known as the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Galician), a division comprised mostly of Ukrainian volunteers after being established by Nazi Germany in 1943.

Despite the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg in 1946 concluding that the Waffen-SS was guilty of “many massacres and atrocities in occupied territories,” the government of Canada in 1950 decided to allow Ukrainians who served in the Waffen-SS to be admitted into the country from the UK. “These Ukrainians should be subject to special security screening, but should not be rejected on the grounds of their service in the German army,” the Canadian cabinet said at the time. Jewish Group Slams Canadian Parliament for Honoring Nazi During Zelensky Visit

By Breitbart. Friends of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Canadian Jewish human rights organization, slammed the Canadian parliament Sunday for giving a standing ovation to a Ukrainian Nazi during President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit Friday. . .

Rota’s historical illiteracy, however, tripped him up: some nationalist movements in Eastern Europe who fought against the Soviets later aligned with the invading Nazi forces, including in Ukraine. . .

The Friends of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Canadian group supporting the Los Angeles-based, Nazi-hunting organization, noted in a statement:

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is deeply disturbed over the Canadian Parliament’s recognition of a Ukrainian veteran who served in a Nazi military unit during the Second World War implicated in the mass murder of Jews and others. FSWC is further outraged that parliamentarians in the House of Commons gave a standing ovation to the former soldier on Friday.

Yaroslav Hunka, a 98-year-old immigrant from Ukraine, was introduced by Anthony Rota, Speaker of the House of Commons, as “a Ukrainian Canadian war veteran from the Second World War who fought for Ukrainian independence against the Russians” and “a Ukrainian hero and a Canadian hero,” ignoring the horrific fact that Hunka served in the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS, a Nazi military unit whose crimes against humanity during the Holocaust are well-documented.

Report: Zelensky Asks Occult Artist to Be Ambassador for Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has allegedly asked occult “Spirit Cooking” performance artist Marina Abramović to serve as an ambassador for his country, according to a report from London’s Daily Telegraph.

Ahead of debuting her first solo exhibition in Britain, the controversial 76-year-old Serbian claimed that President Zelensky has asked her to become an ambassador for Ukraine and to help the country rebuild its school system.

In comments reported by The Telegraph, Abramović said: “I have been invited by Zelensky to be an ambassador of Ukraine, to help the children affected by rebuilding schools and such.”

The Serbian artist went on to claim that she has also been invited to join the board of the Babyn Yar organisation to help protect the Holocaust memorial centre for Jews killed by Nazis in Ukraine, which was damaged in a Russian missile attack shortly following last year’s invasion of the country.

Abramović, an ardent opponent of Vladimir Putin, has previously worked in Ukraine, installing the ‘Crystal Wall of Crying‘ at the Babyn Yar centre just months prior to the invasion. Visitors to the forty-metre-long structure are encouraged to “interact with the crystals and meditate”. After his country’s parliament gave a World War II Ukrainian veteran an ovation, only to learn later that he was part of the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS, the military wing of the Nazi Party, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spent time focusing on “Russian propaganda” and “Russian disinformation.”

The ovation for Yaroslav Hunka came during a session in which President Volodomyr Zelensky of Ukraine addressed the Canadian Parliament to thank Canada for its support. The speaker of the House of Commons, Anthony Rota, then recognized 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunka, who fought the Russians in World War II. Hunka was a member of the First Ukrainian Division in World War II, which was also known as he 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS, aka SS Galichina,

“Division members are accused of killing Polish and Jewish civilians, although the unit has not been found guilty of any war crimes by a tribunal,” the BBC reported. . .

“Obviously it’s extremely upsetting that this happened,” Trudeau commented. “The speaker has acknowledged his mistake and has apologized. This is something that is deeply embarrassing to the Parliament of Canada and by extension to all Canadians, I think particularly of Jewish MPs and all members of the Jewish community across the country, celebrating, commemorating Yom Kippur today.”

“I think it’s going to be really important that all of us push back against Russian propaganda, Russian disinformation and continue our steadfast and unequivocal support for Ukraine as we did last week with announcing further measures to stand with Ukraine in Russia’s illegal war against it,” he declared.

Ukraine’s Trans Spokesman Suspended; Probe Launched as Zelensky Claims Ignorance

The Ukrainian military has announced that it has suspended controversial transgender spokesperson Sarah Ashton-Cirillo for allegedly making unapproved statements on social media; however, there have been no updates from the Ukrainians or the Biden administration on the fate of an American citizen journalist currently imprisoned in Ukraine.

Following a row sparked by inquiries initiated by Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), as reported by Breitbart News, the Command of the Territorial Defense Forces (TDF) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) announced on Wednesday that Sarah Ashton-Cirillo, an American transgender individual, has been suspended from the role of spokesperson.

On social media, the TDF said: “The statements of (Junior Seargant) Ashton-Cirillo in recent days were not approved by the command of the TDF or the command of the AFU. When conducting military operations against the aggressor, the defense forces of Ukraine strictly observe the norms of international humanitarian law.

“The command of the TDF will conduct an official investigation into the circumstances of these statements. Appropriate decisions would be taken. Sergeant Sarah Ashton-Cirillo will be suspended immediately pending the investigation.”

Japan’s Leader Tells UN He Wants Meeting With Kim Jong Un, ‘Without Conditions’

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida late Tuesday night reiterated an offer to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to find a diplomatic path forward amid growing tensions over Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons program.

Kishida said his country was willing to resolve all of its issues with its isolated neighbor, including the highly controversial kidnappings of civilians to train as spies.

“From the perspective of opening up a new era together, I would like to convey my determination to meet with President Kim Jong Un face-to-face at any time without any conditions,” Kishida said during his speech at the United Nations, adding he would welcome “high-level talks” under his “direct supervision.”

Kishida, the final global leader to speak in a day of speeches that began at 9 a.m., also pledged $20 million to help rid the world of nuclear weapons, something he described as his life’s work.
