Catholic University Calls ‘White Privilege’ America’s ‘Original Sin’

By Townhall. Several Sacred Heart University professors took part in a discussion that labels white privilege America’s “original sin.”

At a panel titled “Wrestling with the legacy of America’s Original Sin” that took place in late June as a part of the Heart Challenges Hate series, moderator, Associate Dean Michelle Loris divulged how white privilege is the cause behind most of the racism in America, both in the past and present.

“We want to discuss how white privilege is systemic and is made up of all of those institutional advantages that white people enjoy over people of color, solely because white people are white,” said Loris at the start of the panel. “We want to discuss how white privilege is embedded in all our institutions of power and how it is integrated in the unconscious assumptions and perceptions, with which white people can operate and interact in the world and black people can not.” . . .

Catholic studies professor June-Anne Greenly called white privilege a “freely wielded exercise of a disordered soul.”

Sales of ‘White Fragility’—and Other Anti-Racism Books—Jumped Over 2000% After Protests Began

By Forbes. Sales of top books about race increased by up to 6,800% in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death, according to new data provided to Forbes by NPD BookScan[.] . . .

The top-selling title White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard For White People to Talk About Racism by Robin DiAngelo, who is white, moved 437,289 print copies from May to June, up 2264% from 18,492 in the two months prior.

Man Allegedly Shoots at Mother and Son After Screaming at Them to Social Distance

Police have arrested a man who allegedly fired shots into a Miami Beach hotel lobby’s floor after he told a mother and her son to practice social distancing at a Miami Beach hotel.

Miami Beach Police arrested 47-year-old Douglas Marks at the Crystal Beach Suites Hotel, along the 6900 block of Collins Avenue, Monday night.

“The guy came and started shooting,” a witness said. “The son and the mom were, like, crying, and they were scared.” . . .

According to a police report, the man was enraged that a mother and child were not social distancing. Detectives said the mother and son angered the man enough for him to allegedly fire gunshots into the lobby’s floor.

New CDC Guidelines Come Down Hard in Favor of Opening Schools

New US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines on education and child care come down hard in favor of opening schools, saying children don’t suffer much from coronavirus, are less likely than adults to spread it and suffer from being out of school.

But the new guidelines posted Thursday do recommend that local officials should consider closing schools, or keeping them closed, if there is substantial, uncontrolled transmission of the virus. . .

“It is critically important for our public health to open schools this fall,” CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield said in a statement announcing the updates.

“School closures have disrupted normal ways of life for children and parents, and they have had negative health consequences on our youth. Winner of $10 Million Lottery Charged With Murder

A North Carolina man who won a $10 million lottery in 2017 has been charged with murder in the death of a woman who was found lifeless in a hotel room.

Michael Todd Hill, 52, of Leland, was arrested Tuesday after the body of 23-year-old Keonna Graham was discovered the day before.

Hill, who won his fortune from an Ultimate Millions scratch-off ticket in August 2017, checked into the hotel alone on Sunday, according to a local NBC affiliate. No one on staff saw Graham during his stay, he said.

A housekeeper discovered her body Monday when she went to clean the room after Hill’s scheduled checkout.

Graham worked as a correctional officer at a prison in Burgaw, North Carolina, and previously worked with mentally disabled people in a local rehabilitation center. Planned Parenthood Finally Admits That Its Founder Was a Horrific Bigot

By New York Post. Planned Parenthood is finally removing the name of Margaret Sanger, its founder, from its Manhattan clinic — ending decades of denial about her horrid, racist views.

Just four years ago, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America did admit it was wrong of Sanger to speak to the Ku Klux Klan in 1926. And to support the sterilization of the disabled and “placing so-called illiterates, paupers, unemployables, criminals, prostitutes and dope fiends on farms and in open spaces as long as necessary for the strengthening and development of moral conduct.”

Planned Parenthood to Remove Margaret Sanger’s Name From Center Over ‘Racist Legacy’

By The Hill. Planned Parenthood of Greater New York (PPGNY) announced Tuesday that it will remove the name of Margaret Sanger, who founded the national organization, because of her racist legacy and her connections to the eugenics movement.

Planned Parenthood’s Manhattan Margaret Sanger Health Center will be renamed, and city officials are working to rename the nearby Margaret Sanger Square. The organization said the new name would be announced soon.

Sanger, who was a nurse, established the first birth control clinic in the U.S., which would eventually become the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

PPGNY said the decision came out of “a public commitment to reckon with its founder’s harmful connections to the eugenics movement.”

Eugenics is a discredited, racist theory that states the human race can be “improved” through selective breeding of those with “desirable” traits. The theory often targeted poor people, people of color, those with disabilities and other marginalized groups. Homeschool Enrollment Booms Throughout the U.S.

As local school districts across the country struggle to develop reopening plans in the face of uncertainty about a possible resurgence of COVID-19 and teachers’ unions that are in many cases holding districts hostage with laundry lists of insane leftist demands, many parents are responding by pulling their children out of public schools altogether in favor of homeschooling.

In Texas, the Texas Homeschool Coalition says they have been “flooded” with calls from parents who have been dissatisfied with the distance learning they received from their public school system during the spring shutdowns, and have decided to pull their kids out of public school entirely and homeschool them. After the Texas Education Agency announced that schools in Texas will be permitted to use online-only learning for at least the first 8 weeks, the Texas Homeschool Coalition estimated that their average weekly number of contacts from interested parents doubled.

Texas is not alone. Nebraska’s homeschool filings have jumped 21% over last year already, and many educators predict that the number will grow even higher in the cornhusker state. A recent poll also revealed that 40% of parents are more likely to consider homeschooling their children this year due to concerns about school reopening plans amidst the coronavirus pandemic. George Stephanopoulos’ Wife Says Parents Should Watch Porn With Their Children

Actress Ali Wentworth, wife of ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos, recently raised eyebrows after suggesting that parents should watch porn with their kids since “you can’t stop them” anyways.

The “Nightcap” star made the remarks during an interview on “The Dissenters,” a society and culture podcast hosted by actress Debra Messing and Mandana Dayani.

During the interview, Wentworth argued that since “you certainly can’t stop” kids from watching porn, parents should consider watching it with them to explain what is actually happening. She said that she would watch porn with her teenage daughters, Elliott, 17, and Harper, 15, at least “one time” in order to explain to them that it’s a performance and not realistic.

“In porn, the women have been conditioned to look [and act] a certain way,” Wentworth said, adding that it’s dangerous because then boys see that as something women want.

When asked how to stop kids from watching porn 24/7, she said: “You can’t stop them … so I would watch it with them. I would look at the porn with them that one time, [and explain], ‘They’re performing.'”

California Frees ‘Mr. Rape, Torture, Kill’ Sex Offender From Mental Hospital

California state officials have freed a sex offender considered “dangerous” from a mental hospital where he spent more than 20 years there in confinement.

Cary Jay Smith, 59 years old, was released from the Coalinga State Hospital this month after being in state custody since 1999. Smith was originally placed in state custody after his wife provided evidence of her husband’s intentions to sexually abuse a seven-year-old boy in their Costa Mesa neighborhood.

During hearings every six years, Smith has said that he goes by the name “Mr. RTK,” which stands for “Mr. Rape, Torture, Kill” and has claimed to have murdered three boys and sexually abused 200 others. Smith has said he fantasizes about raping and killing boys.

“Smith, an unstable individual, has openly made threats to rape and murder children and has stated that he would re-offend upon his release,” Orange County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Michelle Steel said in a statement.

California Bans In-Home Bible Studies

Churchgoers sued California Gov. Gavin Newsom over his ban on indoor services in several counties, including in-home Bible studies.

Harvest Rock Church and its ministry argued the ban, which was aimed to stop the spread of the coronavirus, is unconstitutional and they’re asking the court for an injunction, permitting churchgoers to still meet and not face consequences from the state.

“While the Governor has unilaterally and significantly restricted the number of individuals permitted to ‘gather’ in Plaintiffs’ churches, he has imposed no similar restrictions on the untold thousands of protesters who have gathered all throughout California cities with no threat of criminal sanction, and no social distancing or restrictions whatsoever,” the complaint filed Saturday read. “And, the Governor explicitly encouraged such large gatherings of protesters while condemning churches for [singing] hymns in their churches” . . .

Harvest Rock Church, represented by the religious liberty legal group Liberty Counsel, argued the ban applies to at-home Bible studies too, which the church helps facilitate.

“Governor Gavin Newsom cannot disregard the First Amendment and ban all in-person worship in private homes and churches. Nor can the state micromanage the form of worship by banning singing or chanting. The governor is not the High Priest over all religions,” said Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel. Biden Wants Schools to Teach ‘More About Islamic Faith’

Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden spoke to a summit of Muslim voters Monday, telling them he wished U.S. schools taught more about Islam.

“I wish we taught more in our schools about the Islamic faith. I wish we talked about all the great confessional faiths. It’s one of the great confessional faiths,” Biden said Monday at the “Million Muslim Votes” summit hosted by Emgage Action.

Emgage Action, the country’s largest Muslim American PAC, endorsed Biden in April after endorsing Bernie Sanders during the Democratic primary.

Biden told the voters he would end President Trump’s travel ban affecting Muslim-majority countries on day one of his presidency and blamed the White House’s current occupant for “an unconscionable rise in Islamophobia.”

Biden also said he “won’t write love letters to dictators,” and would work to “meet the moral demands of the humanitarian crisis in Syria, Yemen, and Gaza.” He said he would champion the rights of Palestinians and Israelis to have a state of their own, among other priorities.
