The Cancer Eating Away at College Campuses

The average American has little knowledge of the extent to which our institutions of higher learning have been infected with a spreading cancer.

One aspect of that cancer is akin to the loyalty oaths of the 1940s and ’50s. Professors were often required to sign statements that affirmed their loyalty to the United States government, plus swear they were not members of any organizations, including the Communist Party USA, which sought the overthrow of the United States government.

Fortunately, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down loyalty oaths as a condition of employment in 1964.

Today we’re seeing the re-emergence of the mentality that gave us loyalty oaths, in the form of mandating that faculty members write “diversity statements,” especially as part of hiring and promotion procedures. They are forced to pledge allegiance to the college’s diversity agenda.

For example, the University of California, San Diego requires that one’s “Contributions to Diversity Statement” describe one’s “past experience, activities and future plans to advance diversity, equity and inclusion, in alignment with UC San Diego’s mission to reflect the diversity of California and to meet the educational needs and interests of its diverse population.”

George Leef, director of research at the James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal, has written an article titled “Loyalty Oaths Return with Faculty ‘Diversity Statements.’”

His article documents the growing trend of mandated faculty diversity statements—such as that at Virginia Tech, in which “candidates should include a list of activities that promote or contribute to inclusive teaching, research, outreach, and service.”

College diversity agendas are little more than a call for ideological conformity. Diversity only means racial, sex, and sexual orientation quotas.

In pursuit of this agenda, colleges spend billions of dollars on offices of diversity and inclusion, diversity classes, and diversity indoctrination. The last thing that diversity hustlers want is diversity in ideas.

By the way, the next time you hear a college president boasting about how diverse his college is, ask him how many Republican faculty members there are in his journalism, psychology, English, and sociology departments.

In many cases, there is none, and in others, the ratio of Democrats to Republicans might be 20-to-1.

Nearly 100 percent of political campaign contributions from liberal arts faculty go to Democrats. At Cornell University, for example, 97 percent of contributions from faculty went to Democrats. At Georgetown University, it was 96 percent.

A study by my George Mason University colleague Daniel B. Klein, along with Charlotta Stern, titled “Professors and Their Politics: The Policy Views of Social Scientists,” concluded:

The academic social sciences are pretty much a one-party system. Were the Democratic tent broad, the one-party system might have intellectual diversity. But the data show almost no diversity of opinion among the Democratic professors when it comes to the regulatory, redistributive state: They like it. Especially when it comes to the minimum wage, workplace-safety regulation, pharmaceutical regulation, environmental regulation, discrimination regulation, gun control, income redistribution, and public schooling.

The fascist college trend that we are witnessing today is by no means new. As early as 1991, Yale University President Benno Schmidt warned:

The most serious problems of freedom of expression in our society today exist on our campuses. The assumption seems to be that the purpose of education is to induce correct opinion rather than to search for wisdom and to liberate the mind.

What diversity oaths seek is to maintain political conformity among the faculty indoctrinating our impressionable, intellectually immature young people. Vladimir Lenin said, “Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.”

That’s the goal of the leftist teaching agenda.

You might ask, “Williams, what can be done?” Parents, donors, and legislatures need to stop being lazy. Check to see whether a college has diversity mandates for faculty. Check to see whether campus speakers have been disinvited.

College administrators have closed minds about their diversity agenda, but there’s nothing more effective ‘in opening up closed minds than the sound of pocketbooks snapping shut. (For more from the author of “The Cancer Eating Away at College Campuses” please click HERE)

The Left Seeks to Silence Pro-Life/Pro-Family Voices

Silencing your opponent. That is now the main response of the political left in America.

You have seen the footage of speakers on college campuses being shouted down. You have heard about the liberal professor attacked by students for defending a conservative professor. You have watched black-masked rioters smashing the windows of stores and burning cars.

We are told that views that may conflict with the liberal world-view are no more than violence and hate and therefore may be silenced.

In recent days, C-Fam has come under that kind of attack and I am deeply worried. (C-Fam is a New York and Washington DC-based research institute accredited with the UN Economic and Social Council and the Organization of American States.)

C-Fam’s Lisa Correnti was chosen as a public-sector delegate for the Trump Administration to the just-concluded UN Commission on the Status of Women. Almost immediately the left attacked us. They harassed the US State Department for choosing us. The campaign to silence our voice went global. It was covered by the New York Times and Reuters, along with various LGBT blogs and news-sites. College May Punish Students Who Disrupted Conservative’s Speech

Claremont McKenna College officials have announced possible repercussions for students who protested a conservative speaker’s speech last week.

Protesters successfully blocked students and professors from entering an on-campus building to hear Heather Mac Donald’s pro-police speech, as reported by The Daily Signal last Friday. Mac Donald is a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, a conservative think tank.

In response, Hiram Chodosh, the president of Claremont McKenna College, or CMC, released a statement Friday, saying, “Blocking access to buildings violates College policy. CMC students who are found to have violated policies will be held accountable.”

Joann Young, director of media relations for CMC, elaborated on Chodosh’s statement, telling The College Fix in an email that students could face a variety of repercussions, including “temporary or permanent separation from the college.”

Steven Glick, a senior at Pomona College, one of the five undergraduate institutions that make up the Claremont Colleges alongside CMC, covered the protests as editor-in-chief of The Claremont Independent, an “independent journal of campus affairs and political thought” that is dedicated to “upholding truth and excellence at the Claremont Colleges,” according to its website. The publication receives no school funding.

“I wasn’t able to speak with many of the protesters and about what they were doing,” Glick said. “Several protesters prevented me from conducting interviews by pushing me, putting their hands and clothing in front of the camera, and shouting over anyone who did try to talk to me. Another correspondent from The [Claremont] Independent was threatened with physical violence while he attempted to interview protesters.”

Glick’s interactions with protesters were shared on The Claremont Independent’s Facebook page through Facebook Live.

Glick said it was evident many protesters “had no clue what was going on.”

“They chanted about Palestine for quite a while, which had nothing to do with Heather Mac Donald’s planned lecture,” Glick said. “It seems that protesters simply viewed Ms. Mac Donald as an opponent of progressivism, and felt it apt to chant about any progressive cause they could think of.”

Since CMC is one of eight institutions that make up the Claremont Colleges, many of the protesters were not students of CMC, and some, according to Glick, were not students at all. “Some of the protesters were middle-aged people who were clearly just there to help organize the protest,” Glick said.

When asked how students have responded to the protest, Glick said, “I get the sense that most students were disappointed that the protests led to the cancellation of the event, whether they agreed with Heather Mac Donald or not.”

As The Daily Signal previously reported, Peter Uvin, vice president of academic affairs for Claremont McKenna College, said in an email to students after the incident that he understands that “words hurt” and “people have strong opinions and different—often painful—experiences with the issues Heather Mac Donald discusses.”

Uvin went on to add that he “could not accept” students’ attempts “to make it impossible for her to speak, for you to listen, and for all of us to debate.”

In reaction to the administration’s response, Glick said:

The CMC administration should have had a bigger presence at the protest and told the students what consequences, if any, they would face for their actions. By remaining largely absent from the scene, they effectively gave the protesters a free pass.

Finally: Justice in Twin Falls Refugee Assault of Five-Year-Old Girl

A community torn apart by an unspeakable horror is finally getting some justice and closure, even if many of its members are set on continuing the same refugee policies that led to the atrocity in the first place.

In June 2016 in Twin Falls, Idaho, a 5-year-old developmentally-challenged girl was allegedly sexually assaulted. The three suspects charged in connection with this crime were refugee children, ages seven, 10, and 14, of Iraqi and Eritrean origin.

According to the charges, while one of the boys assaulted the little girl in an apartment complex laundry room, the other two recorded the incident on a cell phone. Few details have been available, as all of those involved are minors and the records have been sealed.

While what happened to that little girl can never be undone, this week her family and her community are one step closer to seeing justice served.

The three boys charged with the crime have pleaded guilty to felonies or aiding felonies, according to a report at The Idaho Statesman. All three have struck plea bargains that the victim’s family has agreed to.

“We agreed to the plea bargains. That by no means implies my clients were, or are, fully satisfied with the outcome of these cases or the prosecuting attorney,” Mark Guerry — an attorney for the victim’s family — told the newspaper.

“After 10 months their right to some form of justice was long overdue,” the statement continues. “They were prepared to testify at a trial or enter into to plea agreements months ago. More importantly, no convictions or mere words in statements could ever mitigate the unrelenting trauma and grief their little daughter now suffers as a result of this vicious sexual assault.”

This result didn’t come easily for the family, who not only had to endure the slings and arrows of open borders pundits and politicians, but also the media’s near-blackout of their story.

At first, the little girl’s story received little more than modest local media attention, noted Michelle Malkin, senior editor at Conservative Review, but a conservative social media groundswell, “untethered by the constraints of political correctness,” began asking the questions mainstream journalists ignored and eventually brought out the facts of the case.

In a recent episode of “Michelle Malkin Investigates” — which focuses on Europe’s refugee rape crisis — Malkin delves deeper into the political media cover-up surrounding the Twin Falls case.

Here’s a preview:

While justice may finally be served and closure coming to a beleaguered family, Twin Falls’ refugee question is far from over, as pro-refugee policies have come to mean big money for local vendors.

One of the largest employers in the area, Chobani, operates the world’s largest yogurt factory in the area and employs refugees as nearly 30 percent of its workforce, a business dynamic that has skewed local debate on the issue.

Speaking to WND last month in a story that outlines the problematic local politics surrounding the case, Guerry even accused the local Republican Party of taking the refugees’ side in the matter after Jim Jones — a former state supreme court judge — came to a local Rotary meeting to chastise those skeptical of refugee resettlement in the area.

“He trashed and browbeat everyone who challenged that refugee center for having a negative effect on business in Twin Falls,” Guerry told the website.

“My read on it is the local Republican Party has become just so corrupt and does whatever the prosecutor and other local muckety mucks [in Twin Falls] tell them to do,” he concluded. “I think they brought Jones down for the very purpose of trying to kill this story and browbeat and shame people and guilt them for standing up to the refugee center. And it’s all about the dollar for Chobani and others, just wagging their finger at anyone who opposes the refugee center and trying to make them feel guilty and ashamed for harming local business.” (For more from the author of “Finally: Justice in Twin Falls Refugee Assault of Five-Year-Old Girl” please click HERE)

Gay Seattle Mayor Facing Sexual Abuse Allegations

Ed Murray led a long campaign to legalize same-sex marriage in Washington state, toiled for nearly two decades as a state lawmaker and won his biggest personal political victory in 2013 when he unseated Seattle’s incumbent mayor by promising the ultra-liberal city to raise the minimum hourly wage to $15.

Just as he took on a role as a high-profile critic of President Donald Trump and prepared to launch a re-election campaign, Murray was hit Thursday with a political bombshell — accusations from three men that Murray sexually abused them in the 1980s.

On Friday, Murray held a brief news conference to deny allegations in a lawsuit by one man, saying “they were very painful for me. It was painful for my husband.” Through a spokesman he has also denied the allegations by the other men. (Read more from “Gay Seattle Mayor Facing Sexual Abuse Allegations” HERE)

Ivanka Trump Holds Secret Meetings With Liberal Special Interest Groups. No Good Can Come From This

In preparation for her now full-time role in the Trump administration, Ivanka Trump has been secretly reaching out to the heads of liberal special-interest groups for months, including Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards.

Politico reports that the first daughter “requested a sit-down with Cecile Richards,” apparently wanting “to know more about the facts of Planned Parenthood” and to reach “common ground” on abortion.

“The purpose of the meeting, from Cecile’s point of view, was to make sure that Ivanka fully understood what Planned Parenthood does, how it is funded, and why it would be a terrible idea for Planned Parenthood to be removed from being able to see Medicaid patients,” Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America told Politico.

The long and short of their discussion, reportedly, was an argument from Cecile Richards to Ivanka Trump on why Planned Parenthood should not be defunded – a position that conflicts with President Trump’s campaign promises and claim to be pro-life.

Ivanka was, of course, fed several lies by Richards — like how “the money doesn’t actually go to abortions” (money is fungible) and how Planned Parenthood provides cancer screenings (mostly false).

Whether those lies translate to policies in the Trump administration remains to be seen, but the first daughter and her husband Jared Kushner have already worked to stop an executive order on religious freedom in defense of LGBT special-interest groups. It is not unreasonable to think Ivanka Trump will fight an effort to defund Planned Parenthood as well.

And that’s not all. Perhaps the most revealing part of Politico’s story is that Trump has been meeting with several leaders of progressive special interest groups since the election.

Ivanka Trump has been on a listening tour since moving to Washington, as she stakes a claim on women’s issues. In addition to her meeting with Richards, she has quietly met with other leaders of the progressive women’s movement, including Marcia Greenberger, co-president the National Women’s Law Center, and Judy Lichtman, senior adviser to the National Partnership for Women and Family, sources familiar with the meetings told POLITICO.

The only conceivable purpose for doing this is to pitch the liberal lies and talking points directly to the president — to move the administration further leftward. That’s what happened when Ivanka Trump brought Al Gore to Trump Tower to discuss environmental issues. Months later, the Trump administration is mulling a carbon tax.

So, through Ivanka Trump, liberal organizations have a direct influence on White House policy. And the administration continues to lurch to the left.

Which member of the Trump administration is meeting with conservatives? (For more from the author of “Ivanka Trump Holds Secret Meetings With Liberal Special Interest Groups. No Good Can Come From This” please click HERE)

Claremont University Students Shut Down Conservative Speaker

Protesters at the Claremont Colleges successfully prevented conservative commentator Heather Mac Donald from speaking on their campus.

Students at the Claremont Colleges, a consortium of undergraduate and graduate liberal arts colleges in Claremont, California, blocked entrances to the building that Mac Donald was scheduled to speak in.

Mac Donald, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, a conservative think tank, was giving a speech titled “The War on Police,” a reference to her 2016 book about how political rhetoric against police makes America less safe.

Mac Donald was forced to livestream her speech after protesters blocked students and professors from entering the building.

According to the school’s newspaper, The Forum, 250 students watched Mac Donald speak. Students had to submit questions via email.

“Among other chants, protesters yelled ‘Black Lives Matter’ and ‘How do you spell fascism? CMC!’ while banging on windows of the [Athenaeum],” according to The Forum.

Mac Donald was a guest of the Rose Institute of State and Local Government, a research institute on the campus of Claremont McKenna College, a member of the Claremont Consortium.

Peter Uvin, vice president of academic affairs for Claremont McKenna College, said in an email to students after the incident: “I fully understand that people have strong opinions and different—often painful—experiences with the issues Heather Mac Donald discusses. I also understand that words can hurt.”

Uvin went on to condemn the students’ behavior, saying, “What we face here is not an attempt to demonstrate, or to ask tough questions of our speaker, all of which are both protected and cherished on this campus, but rather to make it impossible for her to speak, for you to listen, and for all of us to debate. This we could not accept.”

Many conservative speakers have been protested on college campuses in recent months.

In March, students protested Charles Murray, a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, while he was giving a speech at Middlebury College. Milo Yiannopoulos, a former editor at Breitbart, was also violently protested when he attempted to speak at Berkeley this past February.

Murray was able to give his speech, talking over screaming demonstrators, while Yiannopoulos was forced to cancel his speech and leave campus, thanks to a police escort.

Mary Clare Reim, an education policy analyst at The Heritage Foundation, cited a pattern, telling The Daily Signal in an email:

We can now add Heather Mac Donald to the long list of experts whose voices have been shut down on college campuses. From Middlebury to Berkeley, college students and administrators continue to treat conservative viewpoints with hostility and sometimes violence.

Reim went on to encourage institutions to re-evaluate their purpose, writing, “Universities have an obligation to protect First Amendment rights on campus. Unfortunately, recent events suggest that many universities no longer take that obligation seriously.” (For more from the author of “Claremont University Students Shut Down Conservative Speaker” please click HERE)

Did a Texting Driver Kill 13 Christian Seniors?

The news of the crash was horrifying enough. Thirteen Christian seniors, most in their 80s, were returning from a three-day retreat when their church bus crashed into a pickup truck. The bus driver, along with 12 of the passengers, died. The truck driver survived.

All 13 victims were members of the same Baptist church. Some of them sang in the choir. They were parents and grandparents and great-grandparents, with deep roots in their community. Now, in a moment of time, they were gone. Can you imagine the trauma this community is experiencing?

But there’s more to the story that adds to the horror.

Pickup Truck Driver’s Texting Cost 13 Lives

According to reliable reports, the pickup truck swerved into oncoming traffic, so the crash was entirely his fault. And an eyewitness who spoke to the driver claims that the reason he swerved was because he was texting.

How deadly texting can be.

The witness, Jody Kuchler, said he was driving back to his home with his girlfriend “when he came across a truck that was driving erratically across the road.”

Kuchler stated, “He kept going off the road and into oncoming traffic and he just kept doing that.”

While following the truck for “at least 15 minutes,” Kuchler called two different sheriff’s offices “and told them ‘they needed to get him off the road before he hit somebody.’”

Kuchler then witnessed the crash, then went to check on both vehicles, finding the pickup truck driver alive: “He said, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I was texting.’ I said, ‘Son, do you know what you just did?’ He said, ‘I’m sorry. I’m sorry.’”

A Resolution: No More Texting and Driving

So far the police have not confirmed this report, only saying that they are considering “distracted” driving as a potential cause of the crash. But if in fact Kuchler’s account is correct, the whole story is even more tragic and jarring.

How many times have you and I been distracted while driving because of texts and emails? How many times have we endangered the lives of others, along with our own?

I confess that I have been guilty. I have texted or emailed many a time, all the while knowing that I should not be doing it, fully aware that, no matter how careful I tried to be, what I was doing was reckless.

But I am determined to do so no more, and I am writing this article to help reinforce this determination, along with warning others. (I waited a few days to write this to allow things to sink in more deeply and to adjust my habits.)

Texting and driving is not only dangerous. It can be deadly and disfiguring.

Liz Marks: Hear Her Story

On November 2, 2014, the Daily Mail carried this headline: “Popular teen disfigured by wreck after texting at the wheel warns other young drivers how distraction destroyed her life and how her so-called friends abandoned her because she was disabled.”

Liz Marks, now in her 20s, “was left blind in one eye and severely disabled after crashing her car while texting at the wheel” at the age of 17.

She had been “driving her Mazda 3 along a road in St Michaels, Maryland, when she received a text from her mother, Betty. Without thinking, she looked down at her phone to read the message.”

Again, I wonder: How many times have you and I done the exact same thing? We are almost programmed to respond to messages on our phones.

“Seconds later, she crashed into a tow truck driven by 25-year-old Roy Dixon that was stopped on St Michaels Road waiting to turn left on to Wales Lane. The truck had its left signal turned on.”

She “was airlifted to the University of Baltimore Shock Trauma Center with serious brain and facial injuries, where she remained in intensive care for nearly a month.”

In subsequent weeks, she was forced to undergo a number of surgeries, including an 11-hour procedure on her brain, according to The Star Democrat in Maryland.

Two-and-a-half years on, she remains blind in one eye, has lost her sense of smell, cannot hear properly, is unable to create tears due to damaged tear ducts and cannot fall asleep naturally.

No Life is Worth It

Her before and after pictures are jarring, giving a small glimpse into her sufferings. Adding to her pain, most of her friends left her, moving on with their lives while she remained behind.

All this for a momentary, innocent glance at her phone.

And now, 13 elderly lives have been snuffed out, apparently because a driver just had to text — and text, and text.

May we take all this to heart, not just for ourselves, but for others. No life is worth forfeiting — or maiming or destroying — for a text. (For more from the author of “Did a Texting Driver Kill 13 Christian Seniors?” please click HERE)

Ivanka Trump Secretly Met With Planned Parenthood Boss

Ivanka Trump initiated a meeting with Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards after her father was inaugurated as U.S. president, a new report revealed.

The first daughter and Cecile Richards met to talk about the nation’s largest abortion chain at Ivanka Trump’s request, in what Politico called an “under-the-radar meeting.”

A representative from the abortion giant said Ivanka Trump wanted “to know more about the facts of Planned Parenthood,” according to the political news outlet.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) Executive Vice President Dawn Laguens called it “an explainer meeting” . . .

“The purpose of the meeting, from Cecile’s point of view, was to make sure that Ivanka fully understood what Planned Parenthood does, how it is funded, and why it would be a terrible idea for Planned Parenthood to be removed from being able to see Medicaid patients,” said Laguens. “The main thing that Cecile Richards was doing was explaining that the money doesn’t actually go to abortions — we get reimbursed the same way a hospital does. We were clearing up misinformation about how this works.” (Read more from “Ivanka Trump Secretly Met With Planned Parenthood Boss” HERE)

Heroic Dog Saves Wedding by Tackling Female Suicide Bomber

A dog died after tackling a female suicide bomber in Nigeria, preventing the would-be attacker from detonating herself in a wedding party.

The dog’s brave actions prevented the suicide bomber from causing any other casualties to the party. The failed attack occurred in Maiduguri, the capital of Nigeria’s Borno state, where the ISIS-affiliated Boko Haram terrorist group is known to engage in suicide attacks.

“A female suicide bomber with [an improvised explosive device] strapped to her body attempted to infiltrate a wedding ceremony gathering in Belbelo community of Jere,” said a spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force in Borno State, as quoted by Nigeria’s Premium Times. “She was however prevented by a watch dog, so she had to detonate the IED to kill herself and the dog. The dog was owned by a resident in the locality.”

Boko Haram is well-known for its use of female suicide bombers. Three suicide bombers blew themselves up Sunday while trying to enter Maiduguri. It is unclear if the dog was a trained to detect bombs, but its efforts were effective, nonetheless. (Read more from “Heroic Dog Saves Wedding by Tackling Female Suicide Bomber” HERE)
