A guide dog’s life is one of service. And a boxer trained as a seeing-eye dog, belonging to an Atlanta man, committed the ultimate act of service, laying down his life for his family.

The dog named Simon helped lead legally blind Dave Furukawa for four years, but died after a car accident Monday where he helped helping protect his owner’s son, Will, according to WXIA-TV.

Furukawa told the local news station he was walking his son to school when a car ran through a stop sign. The 80-pound dog pushed the child out of the way, but was hit by the vehicle himself. Furukawa was hit as well…

Furukawa told WXIA the dog did get up and followed the boy who was rushed home, but “once he was sure Will was okay, he laid down.”

Affordable Care Act Could Fund Over 100,000 Abortions

Although the Hyde Amendment restricts the use of federal funds for abortion, with the exceptions of pregnancies caused by rape and incest, the Charlotte Lozier Institute, the research arm of the Susan B. Anthony List, released a paper on Thursday that showed how Multi-State Plans created through the Affordable Care Act could result in taxpayers subsidizing up to 111,500 abortions each year.

Multi-State Plans (MSPs) are the Affordable Care Act’s version of the “public option” health insurance plan.

“Multi-state” is another word for “national” and the degree of regulation of plan content, control of medical-loss ratios, and other factors ensure that these plans will operate more like regulated utilities than truly private insurance.

MSPs will be gradually introduced through a four-year period. By 2015, 35 states are expected to have MSPs in place, and all 50 states will have MSPs by 2017. The plans are intended to create “competition” in state markets, but will have the advantage that their administrative costs will be taxpayer funded, unlike a private insurance company.

High School Football Coach’s Radical Punishment for Entire Team Gets Surprise Reaction from Parents

In these days of helicopter parenting — particularly moms and dads who view their athletic kids as superstars who can do no wrong — the jobs of non-parental authority figures are often considerably more difficult.

So when Matt Labrum, head football coach at Union High School in Roosevelt, Utah, suspended his entire team — all 80 of them — last week, can you guess what was coming next from parents of those suddenly former players?

If you figure Labrum got his head handed to him as he heard call after call for his immediate dismissal, you’d be incorrect.

Believe it or not, Labrum says he’s received no ill will from moms and dads for his radical disciplinary move — and that has everything to do with the off-field problems that fueled the total team suspension (e.g., bad attitudes toward teachers, skipping classes, failing grades, and a serious allegation of cyberbullying) and his desire to correct them.

So Labrum told the players to turn in their jerseys — if they wanted to wear them again, they’d each have to earn the right to do so by jumping through an arduous series of hoops, including extensive community service, according to Deseret News.

Madonna wants to start a revolution. No one will take her seriously. So she’s made this video with photographer Steven Klein. This is what she wants to know: “If I was a black man and had an Afro would you take me seriously? If I was an Arab waving a hand grenade would you take me seriously?”

This sophomoric nonsense is the product of a 55 year old woman whose view of the world really comes from her own isolation from reality…

Finding Life in Death: Nathan’s Story

According to Texas law, he wasn’t old enough or heavy enough to need a death certificate, but he got a proper burial anyway.

Allison’s son was 13 weeks and 4 days when she lost him. Her husband Daniel and two-and-a-half-year-old son Matthew, along with their family, laid Nathan Isaiah to rest on September 12.

Nathan’s story is one of life and death – and ultimately life. Allison and Daniel, both 28, rejoiced in the news of their pregnancy and looked forward to February 28, 2014, their due date. After suffering a miscarriage about a year after Matthew’s first birthday, they knew they wanted more children, despite the pain of losing Matthew’s younger brother a day after discovering their pregnancy. “I did not have time to even get used to the fact that I was pregnant before blood and pain flooded our happy reality with loss,” Allison said.

Then in June, joy returned as they learned that Nathan was on his way. Excitedly they shared the news with their toddler. “We asked my son, Matthew, which he wanted, a little brother or a little sister, to which he quickly replied, ‘I want a pickle.’ (He had been on a pickle kick.) So the nickname stuck, and Nathan became known as ‘our little pickle.’”

For two months, Allison endured an exceptional case of morning sickness that often left her in bed, but she was delighted when the small baby bump formed in her belly. The whole family rejoiced at seeing this life develop.

The Telegraph has more:

In two weeks they were due to experience the joy of becoming parents for the first time.

But instead they died arm in arm in a pool of blood – gunned down by Islamist extremists as they went out for lunch in a Kenyan shopping centre.

In photographs too graphic to print, Briton Ross Langdon cradles sweetheart Elif Yavuz, one hand draped protectively over her pregnant stomach. The burger and chips they had just bought are scattered across the floor.

The takeaway counter next to them is riddled with AK-47 bullets, sprayed by members of terror cell Al Shabaab at anyone deemed to be non-Muslim..

In his last moments, the 33-year-old appears to have tried to protect the woman who was to have their first child in just two weeks.

Shatia Hill says her 7-year-old daughter, Brianna, broke her arm while playing on the playground at Webber Media Arts Academy in Pontiac.

“I was trying to jump to the bar on the monkey bars but I slipped and fell and broke my arm,” Brianna tells Fox 2’s Andrea Isom. She was helped to the office but, instead of calling 911, school staff members began calling the numbers of Brianna’s emergency contact list.

Shatia shares her frustration with Isom. “They should have immediately called 911. What if she was going into shock? What if she could have had a concussion? Brain damage could have been done and they’re just sitting there, calling people on the phone.”
