Women in Labor Force Matches 24-Year Low

Photo Credit: APCNSNews.com reported Tuesday that the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ newly released data indicates American women participated in the nation’s labor force in September at a rate that matched the lowest level in 24 years.

Meanwhile, the number of women actually holding jobs decreased by 154,000 from August to September.

The actual unemployment rate for women dropped from 6.8 percent to 6.7 percent, due to the fact that the decline in the number of females in the labor force was greater than the number of females actually holding jobs. These statistics are based on the definition of what it means to be a “participant in the labor force.”

Miss Young was born in Virginia to a Filipino mother and an American father. She lives in the Philippines and represented that nation at the Miss World Pageant held in Bali, Indonesia on Sept. 28.

In an interview on the Filipino news show ANC Headstart, as first reported by LifeSite News on Oct. 14, host Karen Davila asked Young about a controversial reproductive health (RH) law currently in limbo in the courts in the Philippines and related topics.

Internet Breast Milk is Unsafe for Babies (+video)

Keim from the Center for Biobehavioral Health at The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and colleagues found that 75 percent of breast milk acquired over the internet is not safe for babies according to their report in the Oct. 21, 2013, issue of the journal Pediatrics.

This research is the first to examine the safety and practices used by nonprofit milk banks and individuals that sell breast milk on the internet.

The investigators compared 101 breast milk samples bought online with 20 samples obtained from a milk bank.

Enthusiasts Encourage More Women To Give Hunting A Shot

By 6 a.m., the electricity is still out, wind and snow are howling and antsy women in camouflage are eating eggs by candlelight.

Marilyn Kite, Wyoming’s first female state Supreme Court justice and one of the people who dreamed up the hunt, is among them.

“We’ve found it to be just great recreation, lots of fun, and the camaraderie of it is why you do it, really,” Kite says. “But we also really like the meat.”

Women still make up only a small percentage of all hunters, but that number has increased significantly in recent years. Now, organizations like the Wyoming Women’s Foundation want to encourage more growth through mentorship.

The group says hunting is an important way to teach self-sufficiency and economic independence — and taking meat home is a part of that, Kite says. “There’s a lot of young women who are single mothers, who are trying to provide for their families,” she says. “And [hunting is] certainly one way to do it.”

The Republican governor of New Jersey was speaking in the second and final gubernatorial debate against his Democratic challenger Barbara Buono on Tuesday night.

When asked what would happen if one of his two sons and two daughters announced they were gay, he replied, “I’d grab them and hug them and tell them I love them.” He said he would then tell them: “Dad believes marriage is between one man and one woman.”

Australian March for Babies Turns Violent: U.S. Pro-Life Activists, MPs Assaulted by Pro-Abort Mob

Kemper, the founder of Prolife Stand True Ministries, told LifeSiteNews.com today that he was thrown to the ground and repeatedly kicked. Several other members of his team were also roughed up.

Pro-life Victoria Member of Parliament Bernie Finn also told the press that he was “belted in the head” and pelted with eggs, and that fellow pro-life MP Andrew Elsbury was thrown to the ground and stomped on.

“What we saw today was literally a public mugging on the streets of Melbourne and Victoria Police let it happen,” Finn fumed. “We had people being assaulted, being kicked, being stomped on and they sat back and watched.”

Trouble began brewing even before the march began, said Kemper. When the pro-life activists tried to begin the march, they were blocked by the mob of about 200 pro-abortion protesters.

According to early ticket sales, Sandra Bullock 3D space drama was off just 34% Friday afternoon and rising to nearly $40 million this weekend for its second consecutive No. 1.

The Warner Bros. hit has already generated over $100 million worldwide and marks the best start of both Bullock and co-star George Clooney’s careers.

Online ticket site Fandango indicates that “Gravity” is outselling all second weekend performers in 2013 aside from Disney/Marvel’s “Iron Man 3,” which earned a monster $72 million in its sophomore frame. 3D and Imax premium prices are only boosting “Gravity” sales.

Teacher Accused of Urging Students to Fail Test Resigns

Heather Campbell, 39, was in her second year teaching fifth and sixth grade students at Waggoner Road Junior High School, the Columbus Dispatch reports. District investigators said Campbell encouraged student to fail a science pretest by drawing pictures of a cat or rock or to answer the question using texting shorthand such as LOL.

The investigation was launched in September after a parent called the school when her child said Campbell asked the class to “do poorly” on the pretest. Of the 68 tests, 54 were considered “not sufficient attempts,” mostly because students scribbled or drew pictures in the short-answer response questions, the newspaper reports.

AFL-CIO Teacher Union Head Randi Weingarten: ‘Women Actually Have to Work to Feed Their Families’

“We have a war in this country, and it happens when you are in sometimes the worst of the economic issues,” Weingarten said at the Feminist Majority’s Women, Money, and Power Summit in Washington, D.C. “We have huge income inequality where women actually have to work to feed their families.

“Forget about taking a vacation,” Weingarten said. “But just to put shelter up and to feed families.”
