Uh-Oh: It’s Not Looking Good for Keith Ellison in Minnesota

Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison is running for Attorney General of Minnesota, but it no longer appears he’ll sail to victory, in part thanks to allegations of domestic abuse that have surfaced in recent weeks.

As Democrats urged Americans to “believe all women” during Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings, they were quietly trying to ignore allegations that Ellison had abused his longtime girlfriend (and possibly his ex-wife).

The oversight has led to questions about whether the Democratic Party — and, in particular, Minnesota’s state party — is really interested in fully investigating allegations of sexual assault and “believing all women” who suggest they may have been physically abused.

Last month, The Hill reports, Ellison was running five points ahead of his Republican challenger, Minnesota state Rep. Doug Wardlow. . .

The allegations against Ellison surfaced in a Facebook post published over the summer by the son of Ellison’s former girlfriend. Recently, outside sources close to the woman suggest she has evidence in the form of photos and videos but hasn’t brought the information forward to police. The Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party says they conducted an investigation into the matter but that they could not substantiate the claims of abuse. NBC Forced to Issue Apology After Intentionally Editing Trump Speech

NBC News issued a correction Sunday after reporting that President Trump described Gen. Robert E. Lee as “incredible,” acknowledging that the president was referring to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant.

“An earlier tweet misidentified the general President Trump described as ‘incredible’ at a rally in Ohio,” said the network’s correction. “It was Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, not Gen. Robert E. Lee.”

Mr. Trump, who had accused NBC of twisting his remarks on purpose, responded by retweeting the post and thanking the network.

. . .

Multiple media outlets were criticized for their coverage of Mr. Trump’s Civil War-themed remarks, reporting that he praised the Confederate general but omitting that the president’s point was to illustrate the greatness of the Union Army leader, an Ohio native. 80 Percent of Americans Think Political Correctness Is a National Problem

Eighty percent of Americans say “political correctness is a problem in our country,” according to newly released data from a nationally representative poll drawing upon 8,000 survey respondents, 30 one-hour interviews, and six focus group. Some of this data, compiled with help from YouGov, has been newly released in a report called “Hidden Tribes.”

Objections to political correctness are even stronger among racial minorities and those who have never attended college. High-income college graduates, especially those with advanced degrees, are the Americans most likely to think political correctness is not a problem. These are also the group most likely to label themselves atheists or agnostics, and identify as politically liberal.

Contrary to a common cultural narrative, the poll finds large majorities of Americans of all ages, income levels, and racial backgrounds oppose political correctness, even while 82 percent also think “hate speech” is a problem. This may suggest Americans believe thought and speech censorship is not the best way to address rude and discriminatory behavior.

Opposition to political correctness was higher among Asians (82 percent), Hispanics (87 percent), and American Indians (88 percent) than among white Americans (79 percent). In fact, just about every single demographic studied showed overwhelming objection to political correctness except the Americans the study reporting the poll results identified as “progressive activists.” Progressive activists, the study says, “have an outsized role in political discourse, even though they comprise a small portion of the total population (about 1 in 12 Americans).” . . .

“Progressive activists are the only group that strongly backs political correctness: Only 30 percent see it as a problem,” wrote Harvard University lecturer Yascha Mounk in an overview of the poll results at The Atlantic. Here’s What Trump Understands About Kanye West

The most compelling moment of Kanye West’s Oval Office meeting with President Trump made no headlines. As their conversation drew to a close, a reporter asked Trump whether solving the problems that plague Chicago was a “law enforcement issue” or a “legislative issue.” . . .

Why should Trump, the leader of the free world, take time on a busy Thursday afternoon to let West regale the press with his eccentric pontifications in the Oval Office? Why affiliate with him at all?

Because West’s word means much more than Trump’s in Chicago. And it’s even broader than that: The power of celebrity is what enabled Trump to infiltrate and reshape the Republican Party.

The audience that knew and loved Trump from “Celebrity Apprentice” helped him win the GOP primary. It gave him an edge over the full stable of staid politicians. Critically, celebrities build trust— and “respect,” in the president’s words— with their fanbases. In both Trump and West’s case, that gives them advantage with a sizable swath of people.

Trump understands and accepts the extent to which messaging depends on the messenger. Kanye West may not be a serious political thinker, or have a spotless record, but his voice is more powerful than any politician’s with his fans. Where many an established politico would laugh at the notion of giving West a platform to wax philosophical about “Yeezy Centers of Ideation,” Trump understands how the benefits outweigh the costs for making inroads with the people who matter. Bodies of 11 Infants Found in False Ceiling of Former Funeral Home

By Daily Wire. On Friday, following an anonymous tip, authorities discovered the bodies of 11 infants in the ceiling of what used to be a funeral home in Detroit, Michigan.

The Cantrell Funeral Home was closed down in April after inspectors from the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) found it to be in violation of numerous codes, including the “improper storage” of multiple embalmed bodies.

Quality Behavioral Health had since bought the former funeral home with plans to turn it into a community center.

LARA received an anonymous letter on Friday directing them to the bodies, which were found in a “drop-down ceiling accessible from an attic ladder” in the building, according to Detroit Free Press. When LARA officials got to the scene, they found a cardboard box and a casket in the ceiling. The police were then called to investigate.

11 Infant Bodies Found at Former Detroit Funeral Home: What We Know

By Detroit Free Press. The grisly discovery Friday of 11 badly-decomposed infant bodies inside the ceiling of a former funeral home on Detroit’s east side raises disturbing questions of how this could have happened.

The anonymous tip that brought state investigators to the former Cantrell Funeral Home at 10400 Mack Avenue revealed nine bodies in a cardboard box, and two inside a trash bag placed in a casket.

The building’s new owner, who purchased it about a month ago, said the interior smelled horribly, and he’d removed four dumpsters of garbage as he started renovating it into a community center.

Officials on Sunday still had no answers to why the bodies were there, and none of the identities of the infants or their relatives had been disclosed. . .

The Cantrell Funeral Home operated by Raymond Cantrell II, who inherited the business after his father died in 2016, was shuttered in April after state inspectors cited “deplorable, unsanitary conditions.” (Read more from “11 Infant Bodies Found at Former Detroit Funeral Home: What We Know” HERE)

Antifa Rages: Patriot Prayer Rally in Portland Turns Bloody; American Flag Saved From Flames

By Daily Wire. A massive brawl broke out Saturday night in Portland, Oregon, at a Patriot Prayer Rally, which descended into chaos when Antifa leftists arrived.

The two opposing groups squared off in the streets, using clubs and fists to beat each other. The brawl, which lasted just one minute, was broken up by riot cops, who quickly fired pepper balls at the street fighters, The Oregonian reported.

Ironically, the protest was billed as a “law and order” demonstration. But police reported seeing members of both groups wearing hard-knuckle gloves and carrying knives and clubs. . .

This isn’t the first time that Antifa has caused chaos in the liberal city. On Saturday in Portland, Oregon, Antifa protesters got in the middle of downtown traffic and started forcing drivers to follow their directions, cursing the drivers and even chasing down one elderly driver who didn’t follow their orders. Bear Spray, Bloody Brawls at Patriot Prayer ‘Law and Order’ March in Portland

By The Oregonian. A demonstration billed as a march for “law and order” in the streets of Portland descended into chaos as rival political factions broke into bloody brawls downtown Saturday night.

Members of the right-wing group Patriot Prayer and their black-clad adversaries, known as antifa, used bear spray, bare fists and batons to thrash each other outside Kelly’s Olympian, a popular bar on Southwest Washington Street. . .

The Portland Police Bureau reported seeing protest and counter-protest participants outfitted with hard knuckle gloves, knives and firearms earlier in the evening. Police said they made no arrests Saturday night, but will continue to investigate. (Read more from “Bear Spray, Bloody Brawls at Patriot Prayer ‘Law and Order’ March in Portland” HERE)

Hurricane Michael Death Toll Rises

By Daily Wire. At least 18 people have died, and more than 1,500 are informally missing as a result of Hurricane Michael, which made landfall in the Florida panhandle on Wednesday as a Category 4 storm, carrying sustained winds of 155 mph.

The deaths aren’t contained to Florida. Individuals in Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia have been killed in Hurricane-related incidents as well.

According to Reuters, “teams consisting mostly of off-duty police officers and firefighters have found more than 520 of the 2,100 people reported missing” since the hurricane hit. Fortunately, according to Matthew Marchetti of CrowdSource Rescue, the number of found individuals should rise in the coming days due in part to larger search and rescue teams made up of volunteers and professionals.

Hurricane Michael Flattened Towns Where Survivors Remain in Disbelief

By NBC News. What Anderson lived through in Lynn Haven echoes the destruction seen by those throughout the area. The death toll from Hurricane Michael rose to 19 Sunday as searchers continued to make their way through the devastated parts of the Florida Panhandle. Residents have been left in disbelief, unsure of what’s next.

Four miles south of Lynn Haven is Panama City, Florida. Along the main road through town, every business has either some damage or is completely destroyed. . .

Meanwhile, Mexico Beach, just 24 miles away from Panama City, is considered ground zero for hurricane damage — every home there was leveled by the wind and rain. Search and rescue teams from Tennessee, Indiana and Florida are on the ground searching for 250 people who chose to stay behind and are currently unaccounted for. . .

Those without any insurance are in dire straits. Kelly Mitchell said her grandparent’s beach house is beyond repair. It was a place where generations of family members came together to enjoy the peacefulness of a small town coastal community of just about 1,000 people. President Trump Reveals Something About Mattis’ Political Views

President Donald J. Trump recently sat down for a rare 60 Minutes interview set to air tonight. In previews, host Lesley Stahl attempted to grill the commander-in-chief over what some say is a chaotic presidency replete with staff turnover but President Trump describes this as “fake news.” Stahl then asked specifically about Secretary of Defense James Mattis at which point President Trump says that the General is “sort of a Democrat and that he may leave, but that would not necessarily indicate any problems in their relationship.

Stahl pressed the president if he was concerned with how many personnel changes his presidency has had its first two years in office. In response, President Trump slammed speculation of trouble was “so false.” He also added, “I’m changing things around, and I’m entitled to. I have people now on standby that will be phenomenal. They’ll come into the administration. They’ll be phenomenal.”

When asked about Gen. Mattis, the president dismissed any concerns as well. “I think he’s sort of a Democrat if you want to know the truth,” Trump said. (Read more from “President Trump Reveals Something About Mattis’ Political Views” HERE)

Outrage Erupts Over Trump Praising Civil War – but Here’s the Whole Story

By The Blaze. Trump told a story from the Civil War of President Abraham Lincoln dealing with the victories of confederate general Robert E. Lee.

“So Robert E. Lee was a great general,” Trump told the audience. “And Abraham Lincoln developed a phobia.” . . .

Much of the media didn’t report the conclusion of the story Trump was telling the audience.

“And one day it was looking really bad and Lincoln just said you hardly knew his name,” he said, “and they said don’t take him he’s got a drinking people.”

“And Lincoln said I don’t care what problem he has, you guys aren’t winning,” Trump continued. “And his name was Grant, General Grant. And he went in and he knocked the hell out of everyone.”

Trump Gives Civil War History at Ohio Rally, Describing Lee, Grant as ‘Great’ Generals

By USA Today. At President Donald Trump’s campaign rallies, history usually begins at the 2016 election.

But the president embarked on a lesson of the Civil War while speaking to an audience in Ohio on Friday, praising generals on both sides and telling the story of President Lincoln’s relationship with Ulysses S. Grant in characteristically populist terms.

“So Robert E. Lee was a great general and Abraham Lincoln developed a phobia,” Trump began, referencing the Confederate general who won many of the early battles against Lincoln’s Union army. “He couldn’t beat Robert E. Lee.”

Phobia is not a word historians associate with Lincoln’s feelings on Lee, but it is true the president was often frustrated by the slow pace of union progress.

Trump then turned to the point of the story: Grant. The Ohio native, born about 50 miles from where Trump was speaking on Friday, wasn’t supported by the military leaders, Trump said. Rumors of Grant’s struggles with alcohol during the Mexican-American War widely circulated in the War Department. Security Clearances for Hillary Clinton and Staffers Are Now Revoked – but for an Odd Reason

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) released a letter Friday that revealed Hillary Clinton had her security clearance revoked along with 5 of her staffers – but for a very odd reason.

According to the letter from Grassley, Clinton herself asked that the security clearances be revoked.

“At her request, former Secretary Clinton’s security clearance was administratively withdrawn on August 30, 2018,” read the letter.

“As we previously informed the committee, the individuals had been granted access to classified information through a request made by Secretary Clinton designating them as researches,” the letter to Grassley explained.

Critics of the former secretary of state have demanded that her security clearance be revoked on the basis that she defied official rules and regulations on security when she kept her own private email server.
