What Is a Woman? Tennessee Has the Answer, With Gov. Bill Lee Signing Bill Defining Sex in State Law

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee signed legislation defining the word sex in state law, becoming the second state this year to provide an answer to the increasingly polarizing question, “What is a woman?”

Senate Bill 1440, which was signed Wednesday, clarifies that sex means “a person’s immutable biological sex as determined by anatomy and genetics existing at the time of birth,” letting the state Legislature draw clear sex-based distinctions in areas such as public accommodations and scholastic sports.

“Unfortunately, we have reached a point in society where common words like man or woman, male or female, boy or girl have come under attack,” said Republican state Rep. Gino Bulso, the bill’s House sponsor.

Members of the Biden administration have been stumped during congressional hearings after being asked to define “woman” by Republican lawmakers amid the rise of the gender-identity movement.

“I am proud to have sponsored legislation to amend the Tennessee code to define the biological term sex to ensure that our laws are crystal clear so that judges and bureaucrats understand the biological and genetic differences between a man and a woman,” said Mr. Bulso. Rape Suspect Who Threatened Victim With Machete Identified as Illegal Alien

A man who allegedly raped a teen girl, and another woman after threatening her while displaying a machete in Maryland, was in the U.S. illegally, Fox 5 reported on Friday.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that the suspect, Jose Roberto Hernandez-Espinal, 20, was an illegal immigrant from El Salvador that came to the U.S. in 2013, according to Fox 5, which is a DC-Maryland based outlet. Hernandez-Espinal is accused of raping a 15-year-old at a park in Silver Spring, Maryland, just days before he raped a woman while threatening the alleged victim and her friend with a machete at the same park.

Hernandez-Espinal allegedly pointed the machete at one of the victim’s backs before taking her to a secluded area, raping her and stealing her jewelry before fleeing the scene, according to Fox5. (Read more from “Rape Suspect Who Threatened Victim With Machete Identified as Illegal Alien” HERE)

Biden Official Says Debt Ceiling Talks ‘Definitely a Subject of Interest’ at G-7

The White House conceded the prospect of a default has been a topic of discussion for President Joe Biden and his aides at the Group of Seven leaders meeting in Japan.

“It is definitely a subject of interest here at the G-7,” national security adviser Jake Sullivan said Saturday in Hiroshima of the debt ceiling negotiations in Washington.

Countries are seeking “a sense” of how the debt ceiling negotiations, which were temporarily suspended, are “going to play out,” according to Sullivan.

“The president has expressed confidence that he believes that we can drive to an outcome where we do avoid default,” he said. (Read more from “Biden Official Says Debt Ceiling Talks ‘Definitely a Subject of Interest’ at G-7” HERE)

Republicans ‘Pressing Pause’ on Debt Limit Talks With Biden White House

Rep. Garret Graves (R-LA), who has been leading debt ceiling talks, said on Friday that Republicans would “pause” talks with the Biden White House on debt ceiling negotiations.

Graves said that Republicans would “press pause” on talks with the Biden White House, although it remains unclear how long they would like to pause negotiations.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) tapped Graves to serve as one of the leading negotiators with the Biden White House, which includes White House counselor Steve Richetti and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) director Shalanda Young.

The Louisiana Republican accused the Biden White House of not negotiating in good faith. Reporters noted that, until now, Graves has been mostly tight-lipped about negotiations.

“It’s just unreasonable. Until people are willing to have reasonable conversations about how you can actually move forward and do the right thing, then we’re not going to sit here and talk to ourselves,” he explained.

Military Caught Alleged Pentagon Leaker Taking Notes on Classified Docs Multiple Times Before Arrest, Court Filing Says

The military reportedly caught Jack Teixeira, arrested last month for allegedly leaking hundreds of classified documents, accessing and taking notes on classified data multiple times before he was charged, according to a court filing.

The Department of Justice filed a motion Wednesday to deny Teixeira bail, arguing that the 21-year-old’s repeated disregard of protocol showed him to be a threat to national security who warranted strict detention. The filing showed that military officials warned Teixeira, a member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, multiple times about inappropriately sifting around the Pentagon’s classified intelligence database, the Joint Worldwide Intelligence Communication System, according to The New York Times.

According to a September 15, 2022, Air Force memo included in the DOJ’s filing, Teixeira “had been observed taking notes on classified intelligence information” inside a room for viewing classified material. The airman was warned “to no longer take notes in any form on classified intelligence information,” the memo said, according to The Washington Post.

Another Air Force memo written about a month later said that Teixeira “was potentially ignoring the cease-and-desist order” and noted that he was told again to avoid “any deep dives into classified intelligence information” and to “focus on his job.” (Read more from “Military Caught Alleged Pentagon Leaker Taking Notes on Classified Docs Multiple Times Before Arrest, Court Filing Says” HERE)

Biden Admin Walks Back Claim That It Killed Major Al-Qaeda Figure in Airstrike, Killed Father of 10: Report

Biden administration officials are reportedly walking back claims that they made earlier this month when they claimed that they had killed a major figure in the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda.

The move by U.S. officials comes after the slain man’s family and others who knew him claimed that the father of 10, a former bricklayer, had no ties to terrorism and was tending to his sheep when he was hit by a Hellfire missile in Syria.

U.S. officials claimed shortly after the strike that the Predator drone had taken out a “senior Al Qaeda leader” — even though they did not provide proof or name the suspect.

The Washington Post reported that 56-year-old Lotfi Hassan Misto was the person killed in the strike.

“We are no longer confident we killed a senior AQ official,” a U.S. official told the Post. (Read more from “Biden Admin Walks Back Claim That It Killed Major Al-Qaeda Figure in Airstrike, Killed Father of 10: Report” HERE)

Oldest Near-Complete Hebrew Bible Copy Sells for Eye-Popping Figure at Auction: ‘Bedrock of Western Civilization’

Codex Sassoon, possibly the earliest near-complete copy of the Hebrew Bible (or Old Testament) known to exist, sold for more than $38 million at auction on Wednesday.

The medieval codex contains all 24 books of the canonical Hebrew Bible, which are the same 39 books in the English Old Testament. With only a few pages completely missing and many others partially missing, Codex Sassoon is possibly the oldest known near-complete copy of the Hebrew Bible.

Sotheby’s announced Wednesday that the American Friends of ANU — Museum of the Jewish People in Tel Aviv had won the auction. Thanks to a donation from Alfred H. Moses, the museum acquired Codex Sassoon for $38.1 million. It will be housed at the museum.

“The Hebrew Bible is the most influential in history and constitutes the bedrock of Western Civilization,” Moses said in a statement. “I rejoice in knowing that it belongs to the Jewish people. It was my mission, realizing the historic significance of Codex Sassoon, to see it resides in a place with global access to all people.” (Read more from “Oldest Near-Complete Hebrew Bible Copy Sells for Eye-Popping Figure at Auction: ‘Bedrock of Western Civilization'” HERE)

Migrant Child Dies in Federal Custody, Marking Third Such Death in Two Months

A migrant child died in federal custody, marking the third such death in roughly two months, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

An eight-year-old girl died in Border Patrol custody in Harlingen, Texas, after experiencing a medical emergency, CBP said in a statement late Wednesday. This is the third migrant child to die in the past two months, after a migrant child died in federal custody days before, and another died in mid-March.

“Consistent with CBP protocol, the Office of Professional Responsibility is conducting an investigation of the incident. The Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General and the Harlingen Police Department were also notified. Additional information will be made available in accordance with CBP’s policy regarding deaths in custody,” CBP said in the statement. Whistleblower Issues Dark Warning to Fellow FBI Agents With Allegations of Wrongdoing

An FBI whistleblower said Thursday that he would not encourage other agents to come forward with allegations of wrongdoing, saying that their lives would be destroyed if they do so.

“I would tell them first to pray about it, long and hard,” FBI agent Garret O’Boyle said in response to a question about how he would advise a fellow agent who might want to disclose wrongdoing. “And I would tell them I could take it to Congress for them, or I could put them in touch with Congress. But I would advise them not to do it.”

O’Boyle had previously testified to the House Judiciary Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government that an indefinite FBI suspension left him and his family temporarily homeless. The FBI held his personal belongings and refused to release them as he and his family moved from Kansas to Virginia, he said. O’Boyle has alleged that the bureau improperly inflated case metrics, and that it targeted anti-abortion groups.
