Zelensky’s Groveling PR Offensive Hits the DC Uniparty’s Sweet Spot

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been repeatedly compared to Winston Churchill. The comedian-turned-politician is not the avatar of democracy that his legion of American admirers think he is, let alone this generation’s savior of Western civilization. But it’s doubtful that Churchill’s star addresses to joint sessions of Congress during the Second World War were received with any less adulation than Zelensky’s speech in the week before Christmas.

The question of whether it was appropriate for Zelensky to appear on the podium of the House in a variant of the GI Joe costume he’s been sporting on Zoom appearances throughout the year misses the point. He may have been the first foreign leader to behave this way since Palestinian Liberation Organization terrorist Yasser Arafat showed up in 1993 at the White House in a military uniform to sign a peace deal with Israel that he never intended to keep. But it was par for the course for a man who knows that his role is to play the hero at any and all times.

What was fascinating about the orgy of praise and support for the massive amount of U.S. aid heading to Kyiv is the way most of the Republican congressional leadership seemed just as eager to fawn at the Ukrainian leader as the Democrats.

Most Americans sympathize with opposing a blatantly illegal and brutal invasion of Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin. But the notion that “Providing assistance for Ukrainians to defeat the Russians is the number one priority for the United States,” as Minority Leader Mitch McConnell put it, is quite another thing. The same can be said for doubling the amount of money the United States was spending on Afghanistan in its last years for this war’s first year. ICE Says It Can’t Find Records on Nearly 400,000 Illegal Aliens It Should Be Monitoring

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has “no records” of hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants it released into the United States.

The Department of Homeland Security agency made its admission in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request from Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC). TRAC had requested information on 377,980 illegal immigrants in ICE’s Alternatives to Detention (ATD) program, according to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

“ICE has conducted a search of the ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) for records responsive to your request and no records responsive to your request were found,” the agency responded to TRAC’s FOIA.

The ICE ATD program is designed to ensure migrant compliance with court orders while avoiding physical detainment. The agency keeps tabs on migrants through GPS tracking, through ankle monitors or cell phones, and mandatory check-ins with case agents. The program was launched in 2004 to free up space in detention centers while migrants wait for their cases to be processed in crowded immigration courts.

U.S. Virgin Islands Sues Major Bank for Allegedly Turning ‘Blind Eye’ to Epstein

JPMorgan Chase is facing a lawsuit from the government of the U.S. Virgin Islands, which claims that the investment bank turned a “blind eye” to child sex predator Jeffrey Epstein.

The disgraced hedge fund manager owned Little St. James, a part of the island system considered a territory of the United States, where he may have hosted a number of high-profile lawmakers and business leaders. JPMorgan allegedly concealed transactions that raised suspicion of the sex trafficking enterprise, according to the lawsuit, which was obtained by The New York Times and Bloomberg.

“JPMorgan knowingly, negligently and unlawfully provided and pulled the levers through which recruiters and victims were paid and was indispensable to the operation and concealment of the Epstein trafficking enterprise,” the lawsuit said.

The complaint, filed in the Southern District of New York by U.S. Virgin Islands Attorney General Denise George, asserts that JPMorgan Chase should have uncovered the transactions due to compliance requirements for laws against money laundering. Representatives for the investment bank refused to comment when contacted by the outlets.

JPMorgan provided investment banking services to the financier for roughly 15 years, according to The New York Times, even after he pleaded guilty to two counts of soliciting prostitution from a teenage girl in 2008. The lawsuit contended that the bank’s failure to sever ties with Epstein enabled his behavior in subsequent years. Jan. 6 Committee Withdraws Trump Subpoena

By Washington Times. The Jan. 6 special committee has withdrawn its subpoena of former President Donald Trump.

In a letter sent Wednesday to the former president’s lawyers, the panel’s chairman said it was wrapping up its work and no longer needed his testimony.

“In light of the imminent end of our investigation, the Select Committee can no longer pursue the specific information covered by the subpoena,” Rep. Bennie Thompson, Mississippi Democrat, wrote in the letter, which was obtained by CNN.

“Therefore, through this letter, I hereby formally withdraw the subpoena issued to former President Trump, and notify you that he is no longer obligated to comply or produce records in response to said subpoena,” he wrote.

Joe Biden Demands China Travelers Provide Negative COVID Test After Calling Trump’s 2020 COVID Response ‘Nakedly Xenophobic’

Joe Biden will now require travelers from China to show a negative coronavirus test to enter the United States after claiming in 2020 former President Donald Trump’s coronavirus response was “fanning the flames” of “hate, fear and xenophobia” against Asian Americans during the pandemic.

Beginning January 5, travelers from China by air will have to provide a negative Covid-19 test to enter the nation “within two days of their departure from airports in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau,” Politico reported.

In January 2020, the Trump administration placed travel restrictions on passages arriving from China, where many experts believe coronavirus originated.

Biden called many of those restrictions racist in May 2020, claiming they were “denials, delays and distractions, many of which were nakedly xenophobic.”

“The pandemic has unleashed familiar forces of hate, fear and xenophobia that he always flames … that have always existed in this society,” Biden said. Rep.-Elect George Santos Now Probed by Feds Over Origins of Alleged Wealth

Federal prosecutors have opened a probe into the finances of GOP Rep.-elect George Santos, who’s facing questions over the origins of his mysterious wealth, according to reports.

The investigation was launched by the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, CBS News and CNN reported on Wednesday.

Prosecutors are reportedly scrutinizing, among other things, the 34-year-old Long Island pol’s financial disclosure filings where Santos reported earning $750,000 from his Devolder Organization consulting firm, along with dividends valued between $1 million and $5 million.

In 2020, Santos reported making just $55,000 in annual salary and the filings also show that he loaned his own successful House campaign for New York’s 3rd Congressional District more than $700,000.

However, Santos’ campaign filings did not disclose any clients of the Devolder Organization giving him business of more than $5,000 — which has fueled speculation about how the incoming congressman got the money for the loans. President Biden reportedly trusts his dog over his pro-MAGA Secret Service protection.

According to an upcoming book, the president doesn’t believe the Secret Service’s account of a biting incident involving his German shepherd dog Major.

Chris Whipple’s “The Fight of His Life: Inside Joe Biden’s White House” reports that while Mr. Biden believes Major bit an agent, he thinks the service, which he believes became politicized under former President Trump, is fudging details to make itself look good.

Twitter Suspended a Medical Doctor for Citing COVID Data. He Says There’s More to the Story

Internal documents show that Twitter’s Site Integrity team had determined that Dr. Andrew Bostom was inappropriately suspended from the platform after he cited self-reported data compiled by health officials. However, Bostom told the Daily Caller News Foundation that he received no communication from Twitter despite filing several appeals, and that he believes his five month suspension — his account was reinstated on Christmas — may have been politically motivated.

The retired Brown University academic’s account received five strikes for misinformation, prompting his suspension from the platform, but an audit by the integrity team determined that four of the strikes against account had been inappropriately applied, according to internal documents published by Free Press journalist David Zweig. Bostom said he had “absolutely no idea” why his account was banned, and that he hadn’t received any communication on the four appeals he filed challenging his suspension, even after Elon Musk acquired the social media platform.

“I appealed twice during the summer as this was going on … I was suspended simply for summarizing” data that had been published by the CDC or scientific journals, Bostom told the DCNF. He said his lawyer sent Twitter a “stern letter” regarding the suspension, and while it was briefly lifted, “two weeks later they suspended me again.”

One of Bostom’s tweets was flagged by both a bot and a human, Zweig reported, prompting Bostom to ask why a human was even looking at his account.

“I wish we could get an insight into what this so-called process was, I mean, who are these people?” Bostom asked. He later wondered, “the bot does its thing, but who told the human to intervene?”

As 2022 winds down and we look toward 2023, there’s a lot that Americans would probably prefer not to carry over into the new year. But inflation and high gas prices are two things that, unfortunately, won’t be going anywhere thanks to the Biden administration’s policies.

This unwelcome news comes from the analysts at GasBuddy in their end of year preview for 2023 and what Americans can expect to find at the pump.

“The national average price of gas could cool early in the year as demand remains seasonally weak,” GasBuddy’s forecast explains, “followed by a rise that starts in late winter, bringing prices to the $4 per gallon range in time for summer.”

As our readers surely recall, last summer saw the national average gas price in the United States reach their all-time highs in June of $5.016 per gallon for unleaded and $5.816 for diesel as recorded by AAA.
