FBI Office Investigating Hunter Biden Sent Twitter Numerous Censorship Requests Right Before 2020 Election

Emails released on Saturday as part of the latest dump of the “Twitter Files” reveal that the week before the 2020 presidential election, the FBI field office investigating Hunter Biden sent multiple censorship requests to Twitter — so many in fact, a top attorney for the tech giant found it “odd.” This blockbuster detail from the weekend came mere days after the FBI issued a statement framing coverage of the “Twitter Files” as “misinformation” being peddled by “conspiracy theorists.”

The FBI has “some folks in the Baltimore field office and at HQ that are just doing keyword searches for violations,” then-Twitter legal executive Stacia Cardille stressed in a Nov. 3, 2020, email to Jim Baker, the then-deputy general counsel for Twitter. “This is probably the 10th request I have dealt with in the last 5 days,” Cardille continued, before telling Baker to let her know if he had any other questions.”

Less than an hour later, Baker responded to Cardille, noting it was “odd” that the FBI is “searching for violations of our policies.”

Independent journalist Matt Taibbi published these emails as part of a 50-something Christmas Eve “Twitter Files” thread that he remarked showed “the FBI acting as doorman to a vast program of social media surveillance and censorship, encompassing agencies across the federal government – from the State Department to the Pentagon to the CIA.”

The entire thread is newsworthy, but that FBI agents in both the Baltimore field office and at FBI headquarters were running keyword searches for supposed Twitter violations proves hugely significant because both offices were involved in the Hunter Biden investigation. Man Who Killed Parents Over Trans Identity Marked ‘Female’ in Prison

A man who allegedly killed his family after alleged disputes about his transgender identification has been marked as a “female” in Maine prison.

Andrew Balcer, who allegedly killed his mother, father, and family dog with a knife in 2016, has been marked “female” in Maine’s prison system after being given a 40-year sentence.

One article from People Magazine, which incorrectly refers to Balcer as a woman with feminine pronouns, explains that his defense attorney argued that Balcer allegedly committed the double murder when the parents would not accept his gender identity.

The article cites his defense attorney, who remarked “what she did was in response to her parents’ rejection of her transgendered status.” Balcer allegedly stabbed his mother nine times and his dad 13 times before letting his older brother escape, the article explains. . .

Now, Balcer has been marked as “female” in Maine’s prison system, Reduxx reports. Though he was first recorded as a male, he is now marked as a female inmate, indicating that the alleged killer may be housed with female inmates. He is also described as six-foot-one and 245 pounds. The IRS Gets a Massive Allowance and a New Commissioner. What Happens Next?

This is a most turbulent time for the IRS. The agency is plagued with enormous document-processing and telephone backlogs, mostly attributable to Covid-19 shutdown orders that all but stopped government operations in the summer of 2020. The agency must also deal with the fact that about 30 percent of its workforce is eligible to retire by the end of 2023. If that plays out, the IRS could lose close to 25,000 employees in the next 13 months. Meanwhile, the agency has come under criticism for not focusing its audits on high-income earners who, critics assert, are responsible for most of the tax-cheating.

In addition to all this, the infusion of $80 billion of new revenue (over and above its usual annual appropriation) over the next ten years will put the agency’s combined appropriation for next year at right about $22.5 billion, nearly double its current allowance. This raises the questions of how these funds should be allocated and who should guide the process.

How to Spend the Money

I adamantly opposed the idea of pumping an additional $8 billion into the IRS’s annual budget every year for the next ten years, but that ship has sailed. The question now is how to get the most bang for our buck. In my opinion, the answer is taxpayer assistance and education.

The friction between enforcement and education has revealed itself mightily in the past 40 years or so. The tax code in the 1950s and 1960s was not particularly complicated, and while there were periods of very high tax rates, the breadth and scope of the code was such that most people could fairly easily determine and discharge their legal duties without professional help. That has not been the case since the 1980s.

In 1992, IRS commissioner Shirley Peterson pointed out that much of what we call noncompliance with the tax code is not noncompliance at all. Rather, she noted, it’s a lack of understanding of what the law requires. This was a clear signal that the IRS needed to spend more money on taxpayer assistance and education.

It didn’t take long for that attitude to change. Margaret Richardson was named commissioner by President Clinton during his first term. She once observed that when it came to making a choice between enforcement and education, enforcement would win every time. She brought back the heavy hand of the IRS, which eventually led to the Senate Finance Committee’s hearings into IRS abuse in 1997, followed by the IRS Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998.

Doug Shulman assumed the role of commissioner in March 2008. He quickly announced that the question of enforcement vs. education is a false dichotomy and that the IRS has to do both: Enforce the tax laws fully and fairly, while at the same time educating citizens about their responsibilities so that they are better able to comply in the first place.

Former national taxpayer advocate Nina Olson has repeatedly pointed out that 98 percent of all federal revenue is paid to the government “voluntarily,” that is, without the need for IRS intervention. I have often said that people screw themselves into the ground to comply with the code, but the complexities often trip them up.

The code now consists of more than 4 million words, and it has been changed more than 6,000 times since 2001. Nearly 80 percent of all taxpayers now use tax professionals or commercial tax-preparation software to comply with their filing obligations. As former commissioner Shulman once said, the code has gone from complexity to perplexity, and the chief victim of this morass of nonsense is the American taxpayer.

Barring a significant congressional attempt to simplify the tax code in any meaningful way, taxpayer education and assistance remains the most effective means of combating noncompliance.

Who Will Guide the IRS?

President Biden nominated Danny Werfel to fill the role of IRS commissioner, vacated when Chuck Rettig’s term ended in November. Werfel has both private- and public-sector experience. He was acting commissioner of the IRS during 2013, just prior to the appointment of John Koskinen as commissioner. Werfel served while the IRS was under attack for subjecting to higher scrutiny and improper delays the applications for exempt status filed by various conservative groups. Werfel also worked at the Office of Management and Budget for several years.

Werfel’s experience in the private sector includes his most recent work with Boston Consulting Group, a management-consulting firm. This experience may give him an edge when it comes to allocating the $80 billion windfall the IRS will receive. One of BCG’s core consulting services is to help large companies decide how to move cash within their business units, with the goal of allocating resources in the best possible manner to maximize growth and profit potential.

My Challenges to the New Commissioner

In light of the above, and assuming his nomination is confirmed by the Senate, I challenge commissioner Werfel to do two things.

First, he must rebuild — and increase — the IRS’s pre-filing education, assistance, and outreach functions to citizens and private-sector tax professionals. That should include working with the departments of education in the states to develop and incorporate a tax-education program into high-school curricula. Today, our students graduate high school without completing a single program that teaches them about taxes generally, or tax-law compliance in particular. High-school graduates don’t know the difference between a K-1 and a hole in one. The graduates of the best business schools in the nation do not get any basic training on tax-law compliance. Even in our law schools, federal tax is an elective course. Despite all this, the Internal Revenue Code touches every American.

Second, Werfel must pressure Congress to engage in honest discussions on real tax-law simplification. For starters, the new commissioner must insist that the IRS immediately begin complying with §4022(a)of the IRS Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998. This provision requires the IRS to submit an annual report to Congress identifying the chief sources of tax-law complexity and frustration for citizens regarding compliance. The report is meant to provide recommendations to repeal or modify whatever laws add undue and unnecessary complexity to the code. The idea is that the commissioner — who most certainly has unique insight into the problem — is to be on the front line of the tax-simplification battle. However, while the law requires the IRS to issue the complexity report annually, the agency has submitted just two such reports since the law was enacted in 1998, and no such report has been issued since 2002.

American citizens do not interact with the IRS voluntarily as they don’t have the choice whether to pay taxes: Their participation is forced as a matter of law. Thus, the ongoing task before the IRS — and its new leader — is to ensure citizens’ compliance with the least amount of heavy-handed enforcement, especially given that the tax code is wildly complex and changing regularly. Hardly any former commissioner has addressed the issue of complexity, despite having had an affirmative duty to do so, or recognized that the best way to secure compliance is through education. Commissioner Werfel should attempt to change both trends.

Three-Quarters of Americans Want President Under 65, New Poll Shows

. . .A new poll shows the vast majority of Americans want their president to be under the age of 65 — seemingly precluding 76-year-old former President Donald Trump and 80-year-old President Biden from successful White House runs in 2024.

The Suffolk University/USA Today survey found 50% of registered voters say their “ideal president” would be between 51 and 65 years old. Another 25% liked their chief executive even younger, between the ages of 35 and 50.

Another 15% said age didn’t matter, but just 8% said they preferred a president between the ages of 66 and 80 — and just 0.4% said they wanted one older than 80.

Biden, already the oldest person to serve as president, has said he plans to run for a second term in 2024, but would make a final decision after the holidays.

If he is reelected, the president would be 82 on the day of his second inauguration in 2025. Should Biden complete another four years, he would be 86 when the time comes for him to leave office in 2029. (Read more from “Three-Quarters of Americans Want President Under 65, New Poll Shows” HERE)

Kevin Sorbo Says New Film ‘Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist’ Is Timely Amid Chaos Worldwide

Christian actor Kevin Sorbo has reflected on the timeliness of his new film, “Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist,” and shared why he believes Jesus’ return might be looming.

Next month, the “Hercules” star will appear alongside Neal McDonough, Corbin Bernsen, Greg Perrow, Sarah Fisher and Sam Sorbo for the latest installment in the “Left Behind” series, based on the bestselling books by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins.

In the film, which will hit theaters nationwide for a limited run beginning on Jan. 26, Sorbo stars as Rayford Steele, a role previously held by Nicolas Cage, who starred in the original 2014 film. . .

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Sorbo revealed he was initially approached about making the film seven years ago, but the plot feels more timely today due to the unrest and chaos seen across the world.

“And I look at it and I’m like, maybe this is a blessing,” Sorbo said. “Because you look at the chaotic world we’re living in right now. It’s almost biblical. It’s almost got a Revelation theme going to it in a way. So I found it interesting that it did end up where it’s at right now. And I don’t know, maybe this was meant to happen and come out now, but it just seems like the time is right.” (Read more from “Kevin Sorbo Says New Film ‘Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist’ Is Timely Amid Chaos Worldwide” HERE)

Elon Musk on Big Tech Censorship: ‘Google Frequently Makes Links Disappear’

Twitter CEO Elon Musk said in response to the latest release of “The Twitter Files” Tuesday that Twitter was far from the only big tech company that engages in online censorship, going as far as to say that Google makes links disappear on their search engine.

Musk made the remarks in response to a tweet from left-wing journalist Glenn Greenwald, who wrote: “For the crime of reporting that the US Security State agencies are heavily involved in Big Tech’s censorship regime, and for confessing that he found this deeply disturbing, liberals have spent a full week saying that @mtaibbi has mental health problems and needs therapy.”

Included in Greenwald’s tweet was a screenshot of one of journalist Matt Taibbi’s Twitter Files threads.

“The government was in constant contact not just with Twitter but with virtually every major tech firm,” Taibbi said. “These included Facebook, Microsoft, Verizon, Reddit, even Pinterest, and many others. Industry players also held regular meetings without government.”

Musk responded, “Most people don’t appreciate the significance of the point Matt was making: *Every* social media company is engaged in heavy censorship, with significant involvement of and, at times, explicit direction of the government.”

House Committee Picks Date To Release Trump’s Tax Returns

Several years’ worth of former President Donald Trump‘s tax returns are on track to be released to the public by the end of this week.

A spokesperson for the Democrat-led House Ways and Means Committee told multiple news outlets that the disclosure will take place Friday, less than a week before Republicans take control of the lower chamber. The tax materials for Trump and his businesses, which are expected to cover the years 2015 to 2020, will be placed into the Congressional Record as part of a pro forma session, according to NBC News.

The panel voted along party lines last week to release Trump’s tax returns following a years-long legal battle capped by the Supreme Court rejecting the former president’s plea to block the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from giving the tax records to the committee. Chairman Richard Neal (D-MA) said the release would happen after a few days, allowing staff to make redactions of sensitive information.

A longtime businessman before he jumped into politics, Trump refused a modern standard of making tax information public while a candidate for president and while in office, insisting over the years it was because he was being audited, along with numerous other explanations. James Cameron Cut Just Ten Minutes of Gun Action From ‘Avatar 2’: ‘What’s Happening With Guns in Our Society Turns My Stomach’

Hollywood director James Cameron has revealed he cut ten minutes of gun action from the new Avatar sequel, saying “what’s happening with guns in our society turns my stomach.”

In an interview with Esquire Middle East, James Cameron also spoke about gun culture in his adopted country of New Zealand.

““I’m happy to be living in New Zealand where they just banned all assault rifles two weeks after that horrific mosque shooting a couple of years ago,” he told the magazine.

Cameron explained why he cut the scenes from Avatar: The Way of Water.

“I actually cut about 10 minutes of the movie targeting gunplay action,” he said. “I wanted to get rid of some of the ugliness, to find a balance between light and dark. You have to have conflict, of course. Violence and action are the same thing, depending on how you look at it. This is the dilemma of every action filmmaker, and I’m known as an action filmmaker.” (Read more from “James Cameron Cut Just Ten Minutes of Gun Action From ‘Avatar 2’: ‘What’s Happening With Guns in Our Society Turns My Stomach’” HERE)

Health Officials Worried After Florida Supreme Court Approves COVID-19 Vaccine Probe

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis petitioned the state’s supreme court earlier this month for an order to impanel a statewide grand jury to probe any wrongdoing related to COVID-19 vaccines. The court gave him the green light on Thursday.

This has a number of health officials and so-called experts worried about the impact that this truth-finding mission may have on vaccine hesitancy and the public’s faith in the medical establishment. . .

The governor’s petition noted that the “pharmaceutical industry has a notorious history of misleading the public for financial gain. Questions have been raised regarding the veracity of the representations made by the pharmaceutical manufacturers of COVID-19 vaccines, particularly with respect to transmission, prevention, efficacy, and safety. An investigation is warranted to determine whether the pharmaceutical industry has engaged in fraudulent practices. The people of Florida deserve to know the truth.”

On Dec. 22, the seven-member court complied with DeSantis’ request to “get more information and bring legal accountability for those who committed misconduct.”

The grand jury will also be able to consider “other criminal activity or wrongdoing that the statewide grand jury uncovers during the course of the investigation” or behavior that is part of an “organized criminal conspiracy,” reported the Orlando Sentinel. Maricopa Judge Refuses to Sanction Kari Lake, Saying Claims Weren’t ‘Groundless’

A Maricopa County judge denied a motion to sanction Kari Lake and her lawyers over election fraud claims, saying such claims weren’t “groundless,” but ordered her to repay $30,000 in expert witness fees.

Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) and Maricopa County filed a motion to sanction Lake and her lawyers, claiming that her election fraud lawsuit was brought forward in bad faith. Superior Court Judge Peter Thompson ruled against them, claiming that although she lost the case, there was some basis to Lake’s claims. However, she was still ordered to pay $30,000 in expert witness fees. She will not have to pay any other fees.

“She has not simply failed to publicly acknowledge the election results. Instead, she filed a groundless, seventy-page election contest lawsuit against the governor-elect, the secretary of state, and Maricopa County and several of its elected officials and employees (but no other county or its employees), thereby dragging them and this court into this frivolous pursuit,” Hobbs’s filing stated.

Lake filed a lawsuit on Dec. 9 asking to overturn the election and declare her the winner, claiming that Hobbs won through widespread fraud. Arizona state lawyers called her lawsuit a “fiction,” saying there was no basis for her claims.
